Lord of the Octoroks, all hail!
|
![]() Summary: Our legends speak about an ancient age, of hopelessness and despair, in which the clouds of darkness threatened to consume the world for all time. Back then, the world of men was fractured, a thousand petty kingdoms dotted the country, engaged in perpetual war against each other. That's when he appeared for the first time. His name now forgotten, but his title forever remembered - the Dark Lord. He was particularly ambitious man whose abilities in all fields made him the best of his time, but deciding that this was not enough, he sought the forbidden knowledge and claimed mastery of such. Raising an army of monsters, he swept through the world with ease. But through a long and epic struggle, one hero united all the armies of the country and lead them through victory. This hero was crowned, and his descendants ruled the country through an age of peace and prosperity. But now, the darkness has been unleashed once more. The Dark Lord has somehow returned to the land, and deep within his lar, he slowly regains his strenght. As thousands seek him, his forbidden knowledge births a new army of monsters with which to storm the world. This is a massive army, in which all sorts of creatures (including humans) mingle together. They all have their own reasons and motives to join the campaign with which the Dark Lord seeks world domination - they are the pariahs of the world, often forgotten or ignored, and that is when they are not being actively hunted. But, can such an army hold together? Could all this different creatures learn to work with each other for common goals, and most importantly, will they be able to find their own place here? Note: Basically, your characters will be monsters from your generic fantasy bestiary, who find themselves drawn together after the Dark Lord has announced his return and the continuation of his world domination campaign, mostly because monsters don't have a place in the human world where they are discriminated and actively hunted down. However, they must first learn to cooperate (and coexist) while they are in the Dark Lord's Domains (which is like a huge fortified castle-city with all sorts of wacky stuff), while the Dark Lord himself regains his full powers . Character Creation will be extremely free-form, since you can basically be any monster, all of them which are different from each other in virtually everything. I will only intervene when something isn't compatible with whatever. Also this isn't supposed to be super serious, but you can't really call it idealistic when the characters are clearly not on the side of the heroes. Edited by Arcvalons, May 24, 2013, 12:36 pm.

I'm kind of curious how it would play out. It won't really be the "heroes on a quest for vengeance" or anything similar to that if we're playing the bad guys... |

It would be like that, kinda. I mean, officially - but most of the time the characters will be struggling against each other because that's what happens when you get alot of bad guys on the same side.

The Silver Light
|
Name: Skorge Soulwhisper Race: Lich
Description: Spoiler: click to toggle Skills: Necromancy, the study of magic involving the dead. Typically used to reanimate corpses, Necromancy can also be used to shape and reconstruct the flesh of undead creatures, allowing them to function again even after the foul monsters have been destroyed. Masters of this tainted field of magic can conjure festering diseases, harness the shadows into bolts of incendiary energy, and chill the living with the power of death. Practitioners gradually take on the characteristics of the dead — hollow eyes, shambling gaits, pale and sunken skin, foul odors, and risk succumbing to the legions they create. Unrivaled Intelligence, the reason a lich sacrifices mortality. Those who make the transformation spend their life obtaining knowledge and conducting dark research. Skorge is no exception, and has spent centuries filling books with with knowledge unknown to all. Terrifying, the best way to describe a lich. Skorge and his ilk are found in the darkest nightmares. Abilities: Rebirth - Upon death, a Lich's soul will release from the body it controls. If there are no corpses to inhabit in the surrounding area the soul will eventually be drawn back to its phylactery, gradually reconstructing a body. Levitate - A lich's current body floats anywhere from 6 -12 inches above the ground. Lichs cannot trigger pressure plates or similar traps, nor do they leave footprints. Most difficult terrain does not inhibit liches, and they can cross calm water and other liquids with this ability. This movement is otherwise similar to normal movement, so a lichs can still fall down pits. Dominate Undead - When presented with resurrected dead a lich can attempt to take dominion over the monster. The lich's ability to assume control depends on the strength of the undead's master, the number of undead the master controls, and the distance from the master. Reanimate Dead - By using dark magic a lich can turn a corpse into an obedient minion. The strength of the minion depends on the corpses strength in life and the number of dead currently controlled. Festering Plague - The lich blasts a target in a pale green light. Deep within the target's body a disease begins to spread, working to shut down all bodily function. The disease takes days to kill, but is capable of slowing reaction time shortly after being infected. The disease is engineered by the lich, and is never used on the same target twice. Frost Bolt - The lich extends a hand to launch a blast of ice at a target. The attack is as cold as death and slows movement. The attack can be manipulated in a manner of different ways. Bone Mold - Reshapes and reconstructs a corpse or corpses into a useable form. The lich can use existing corpses (raised or dead, friend or foe) to mend his own injuries. Soul Link - By attaching a fragment of their own soul to a reanimated minion a lich is able to see through the eyes of their minions. They can also speak and relay information through their minions. If the lich's main body is killed while soul linked the lich's soul with be drawn to the closest soul linked minion rather than its phylactery. Edited by oniskieth, May 24, 2013, 1:39 am.

Name: Yui Race: Blue Dragonkin Blue dragons, also known as storm dragons, are among the most vain and prideful of an arrogant race. They take great pleasure in wielding their power, engaging in combat or lording over humanoids and other lesser creatures to prove that they can do so, rather than out of any real desire for results. A blue dragon might forgive insults, but it reacts with rage to any insinuation that it is weak or inferior. Blues are also extremely territorial dragons. They rarely give intruders, even accidental ones, the opportunity to explain themselves. Blue dragons are more likely than other varieties of chromatic dragons to battle powerful enemies or other dragons over violated borders. This can prove particularly problematic, given that blue dragons are also more finicky about their environment than their cousins. When other creatures give due respect to blue dragons’ pride and territorial claims, however, blues can be the most reasonable of the chromatic dragons. They lack the cruelty of black dragons and the ambition of greens and reds. Some blue dragons live as peaceful neighbors of humanoid communities or even, on occasion, of other dragon varieties. They might also employ humanoids to perform tasks for them, because blues enjoy both the opportunity to command others (thus showing their superiority) and the accomplishment of goals without having to exert themselves. Blue dragons savor large prey such as cattle and herd animals, preferring meals of fewer, larger creatures over many small meals. Blues have no particular desire to hunt sentient prey, but neither have they any compunction about doing so if opportunities present themselves. Blues prefer their meat charred but not cooked through: “lightly kissed by the lightning,” as one blue reputedly put it. Blue dragons rarely land during combat, preferring flight and far-reaching attacks to lumbering over land in close melee. Because they like to fight from a distance, blue dragons consider combat a long-term engagement. They fly near enough to their opponents to unleash a few barrages, then vanish, and then return—sometimes minutes or hours later. On rare occasions when a blue dragon hunts from the ground or rests away from its lair, it conceals itself beneath the terrain, burrowing with powerful claws. Because most stormy regions have soft ground, such as the sand of a coastline or the rich soil of a rain forest, blue dragons find it easy to hide in this fashion. Description: Spoiler: click to toggle A young half blue dragonkin, Yui has few developed draconian characteristics. She has a very blueish hue to her skin, the surface of which is primarily covered with hard, reflective scales that almost seem to be tiny mirrors in actuality. Her midsection and face remain soft and flesh-like however, offering little protection. On the opposite, her tail is quite long, almost the length of her body and heavily armored making it her main method of physical attack. She measures at only about four and a half feet tall when standing upright and weighs little more than seventy pounds. Tough horns protrude from her head and look to be almost fully developed albeit significantly smaller than her much larger, full-grown kin. Her head is covered with long hair; almost electric in appearance with bright yellow-green eyes. She wears black armor with a gold trim to protect her relatively soft body. Flowing robes cover her mid-section while stockings and gloves cover the skin of her arms and legs. Skills:

Mage

Name: Shryke Race: Voidwraith Voidwraiths are essentially a subspecies of voidwalkers; beings that primarily exist in the Void between dimensions but are capable of "walking" into other planes. Voidwalkers typically assume a physical form of a large mass of a smoky substance: their essence. Voidwraiths, however, have a much narrower, almost skeletal, appearance. They cannot last nearly as long in physical planes as a voidwalker, but have a unique ability that makes up for that. Similar to a poltergeist, a voidwraith can possess a physical object and use that as an anchor to a physical plane. Such objects usually have a very subtle purple aura rising from it. Description: Like all voidwraiths, Shryke's true form is that of a spindly, phantom-like ghost consisting of a black smoky substance. However, he is currently in possession of a suit of armor, formerly worn by an elite dragoon of a dead kingdom. This elaborate silver armor was constructed with numerous edges and spikes to make melee combat that much more potent. Tassets reach down to the knees on either side of its legs. The helm has five points rising from it; two on either side and one on top. The faceplate is simple in design, consisting of a triangular sheet of metal with curved edges, resembling a heater shield. Two narrow slits are appropriately placed for the eyes, and they are filled with a malicious purple glow that has the typical smoky aura rising from it. A black tasset falls from the back of the helmet, reaching Shryke's midsection. Shryke's true name cannot be pronounced by most tongues. Thus, he has adopted a name appropriate for his weapon of choice: a black lance. This lance, named the Dark Branch, does not have a straight haft. Rather, it has subtle twists and curves that appropriately make it look like a branch. The end comes to a wicked point, but at the tip there is only a single blade, rather than a double blade or a leaf blade, making it look somewhat like a harpoon. This particular lance is said to have been carved from the last Black Steelbark tree. Skills: Reconstruction - Having no actual body, Shryke is capable of reassembling his armor should a forceful blow cause it to come apart. With more effort he is able to remove dents, gouges, holes, scratches, etc. Possession - Shryke can take control over inanimate objects. Currently he is limited to a single object at a time. With great effort he can possess a weak-minded individual, or an animal. Bladed Armor - The spikes and edges on Shryke's suit of armor at capable of cutting and puncturing, making grappling that much more dangerous. Void Essence - Moving through the void causes Shryke to accumulate Void Essence. This will regenerate his actual form, but when in possession of an object it will accumulate a tar-like substance that provides defense against elemental damage. Abilities: Voidwalk - Shrike can move through the void, disappearing and instantly reappearing at a nearby location. Signaled by the purple aura suddenly flaring up. Movement occurs after a half second's delay. Accumulates a small amount of void essence. Skyfall - The signature technique of a dragoon. Winds begin to gather around Shryke, after which he leaps high into the sky. Several seconds later he comes crashing down, devastating a medium area. Acceleration - By using Voidwalk, Shryke is able to build up speed by traveling long distances through the Void. This can be used to perform a blindingly fast thrust, or to vastly increase the damage of Skyfall. |
