Hello everyone, For a long time now I've been thinking about the idea of a centralized RP world where all our various "fantasy" RPs might take place in from this point onward. The closest thing we had to this was in my RP Calatia's Throne, in which the community was given free reign to create anything they wanted, which was rather effective. However as many people pointed out, this free reign caused a number of problems regarding balancing and functionality. So instead I wondered if we couldn't create something a little better now that we all have a bit more experience. So I wanted to know of the various authors on the site, would you be interested in us working together to create a unified RPing world so our characters, stories and events might make a meaningful impact on our future works as well? Earlier today Garm, BO, Onime, Matt and myself were talking about this idea earlier and had a few important things that would need to be established if we wanted to create an adequate fantasy world. While there are a number of details that must be ironed out, the major decisions are what will impact the world most directly. Those identified before were: 1. What is the "max" powerlevel that a playable character or antagonist can possess within this world? Does the power levels cap out at rather mundane levels like the ability to break through stone with ones fists? Or does it go a little higher, making it closer to what high level DnD characters could do? Should we go higher up into demi gods levels? 2. Would the players and authors be alright with a centralized Character Creation Sheet and a general system of how above human physical abilities, magical spells, enchantments and passives are used between RPs? In particular this would mean that characters would be comparable to each other and likely various authors would request that characters are made at a certain strength to start the story. Using a number example, say Onime might want characters to start at Lv.7 since he likes characters in his stories to be rather powerful and grow stronger over time till they cap out around Lv.13 as they become the legendary heroes of the new Sealing Wars in ToS. I alternatively might want characters that started at Lv.1 and my characters might only grow to Lv.8 since their storyline might be centered on a smaller conflict like putting down a rebellion in Red Wings. BO, being more of a median, might want them starting at Lv.3 and have us go all the way to 18 as our characters become demi gods who are saving the entire world. 3. In order to accept this world, we would need to make certain limits on what races, locations etc exist in this world. Could we willingly limit ourselves to certain rules, regulations etc for our world that we agree will not be broken? This would mean if we choose to make the setting purely human, we wouldn't get any elves involved. Or alternatively if there are angels and demons in the world that are purely "spiritual" that you couldn't have them create "half demons." While these are just a couple of issues associated with this idea, I would love to hear more about your thoughts as well. Both RP admins and players alike are welcomed into this conversation and by working together to create something more unique, detailed and expansive we might be able to create an entire RP created world that would help us develop a sense of continuity that our current stories deeply desire. So what do you say everyone? Would you be interested in this idea? |

Why not make it so that there's a collection of antagonists from all of our worlds and a collection of protagonists from our worlds? Like, all of the good guys unite against all of the bad guys? I could bring my Norse characters into play as well to accentuate both sides. |

@Lotus: I could see previous antagonists, protagonists etc appearing in meaningful positions within the world. Using say your "gods" from Norse Mythology, you might find them existing within a country possessing a high "power level." Like say high up in the arctic north where few people live but those who do exist there are very powerful like say PCs start at Lv.6 and most of your "living gods" would be around Lv.17 out of a max of like 30. Now while you might think "oh why are they so low" I'm imagining that 25 above is something where his/her/it's presence might cause the entire world to unify and slay it to fix the status quo. |

Some of them would be weaker Gods while others are much stronger. Odin, Freya and Loki for example would be higher while Sin, Hel and Thor would be lower. |

@All: For those who are voting "Maybe, tell me more" could you tell us what you want to know so we might be able to answer it? |

While saying "I hate this idea" would be too strong a phrase, I have to say no for the following reasons: A. Having all adventures take place in one world homogenizes them and takes the point away from some of the previously impressive things that have been accomplished. If Knights of Logres and CoH took place in the same world, none of the Knights' skills would be cool anymore because all the CoH guys could slaughter them with a pinky finger. Think about the Flash, and how he was the fastest man alive, and how Wonder Woman was super strong. Then they put all of the superheroes together into the Justice League, and now who gives a crap about those guys because Superman does what they do, only better. When they're in their own series, they're cool, but when they're sharing the spotlight with someone who's obviously on a different level than they are, they might as well not be around. B. Having all these adventures take place in the same continuity causes major continuity snarls. If Tai was around when the Demons invaded Aselia, why couldn't he have sensed the demonic energies and flown over there to smash some heads and end the whole thing before it began. If CoH happened eons before ToS, why is ToS less magitech-y? If one group of adventurers went time traveling and another one went multiverse hopping, who has the timey wimey ball? It's all a big confusing mess. C. The resulting world would be way too big to keep up with, not just for admins or mods but players too. Pages and pages of posts from different locations all over the place, how am I supposed to find mine? These are the reasons why I don't really like this idea, and think that RPs should stay in their own separate worlds, with sequels being the only things to share them. EDIT: Also your title says Unifed, not Unified. Edited by Onime No Ryu, January 7, 2013, 8:48 pm.

“Time is passing so quickly. Right now, I feel like complaining to Einstein. Whether time is slow or fast depends on perception. Relativity theory is so romantic. And so sad."

Well, the RP I'm in is rather slow. So I might join a second RP. I'm open to suggestions on which RPs to join. I usually can't see the chat box up top most of the time, so PMs would be nice. |

I think that's the point of setting homogenized rules from the start. So powerlevels aren't too different. |

Yes, but when things become homogenized, they all become the same. Whether it's powerlevels or setting, when everything is the same it tends to get very old very quickly. What's the point of coming up with unique spells if they're all on the same level, regardless of how they're intended to be used? The key to making good powersets, in my opinion, is coming up with something simple that can be used in a variety of ways--for instance, the Devil Fruits of One Piece. How powerful a fruit is doesn't always depend on the sheer strength of their users, but on how skilled they are with its abilities. But when you start assigning levels to everything and limiting what it can do, you take variety out of the equation, and from there it's all the same thing with a different name. |

Or like Geass abilities. See, we already came up with a good ability system to use in the Unified World. |
