Multi classing doesn't give you both classes powers at their full capabilities you know. For example a barbarian sorcerer in theory can rage well and cast spells well, however, you won't be as good at raging nor casting as somebody taking just one of those classes because you have to split your focus, and half elves don't avoid that downfall. Another way to say it is use dnd leveling you can have a 10 barb and 10 sorc, but that won't be as good as somebody who went to 20 on those classes. |

So it boils down on having a toned down advantage of the classes you multiclass or just stick to one advantage with superb results. I get the hang of it. I played a similar game which allow multiclasses. And indeed, carried over skills are toned down by irreconcilable stats due to a different focus on stat growth once you switch to another class. So half elves are jack of all trades. |

I do like me my Jack of All Trades but i maybe a Ranger or something, then again i don't want to re-create Sadoc, so maybe something else. If i had say, a Archer, but with something like Hidden Blades from Assassin Creed as sub weapons, or even dual weapons, would that be allowed? |

I’ll have to give a vote on the Highlander RP. Or just use its concept “There could only be one.” Although the battle system should be really well thought, though. Or we can tweak the concept a bit. |

I few days ago I heard of the game Shadowrun (Tabletop) and it sounded really epic. Its basically the future and it has Deus Ex elements where you can augment yourself and it might be fun to have an rp of it set up here. I can go into more detail if you guys want me to but if it doesn't interest you then we can just ignore the fact I made this post. |

Before I give more details about Shadowrun, I wish to propose another short idea before I lose it based off of the Lantern Corps of DC. Basically what I'm thinking is that everyone has rings and there are 3 factions, those that do good, those that do evil, and those who seek balance. You choose from the selected rings and they give powers that are powered by a certain emotion. I'm debating whether the Rings should be in corps that have pre-picked factions or you just get rings and choose a side. From there we just have fun doing stuff that I'm not entirely sure of quite yet. Further information here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emotional_spectrum |

Hmm, I ACCEPT THIS CHALLENGE!!! But we need rules. I say blank combat zone, we start 10 squares apart from each other with pillars at consistently spaced intervals to make a circle. We each make a level 10 character then based off of the d20 rule set of your choice or 4e if you so choose. Once we have characters made we shall make a topic that will hold the character sheets and we shall have combat by text and use a rolling program that allows shared rolls. Or we could perhaps use a program such as OpenRPG. I await your reply... |

So I was looking at the EoA rpg and I was genuinely pleased with it until it got to the stat generating page. At that point is when I got mad and said "Fuck it, I'm making an idea post." I will probably end up dm'ing it, and character gen will be different then the normal template affair. It will be based off a stat system, skill points will be utilized, and I plan to run it under the Pathfinder rule set. Any objections to the idea that will die within the week? |

I'm going to compress all the stuff I have written up for ToL so far into one mega post for easy reference on my part: General Info Basic Backstory of the Tower: A long time ago in the world known as Boletaria there was a a problem with a rise in the crime. The problem wasn't that they couldn't suppress the crime, but that they were running out of space to hold the criminals. What was proposed was a sort of Prison/Asylum in the shape of a Tower, instead of a square building. No longer would there be time wasted on criminals pleading on insanity or not, they would all merely be lumped into the same tower. However, the tower's conditions were torturous. Everybody put in was treated as if they were insane and put into a number of horrible contraptions such as restraining chairs, iron maiden traps, or if they were lucky and put into chambers with no traps, they were either put into cells with dozens of other people or extremely small cells with no space to move. Soon after the first set of towers were erected, a demon invasion occurred and the towers were filled with all of those who opposed the Demon's rule, even the previous Kings of the land. Slowly the Towers devolved to chaos as inmates were able to smuggle in weapons and crafted poisons for them from the limited prison supplies. Soon as the Demons took over more land more towers were needed and built to contain all the people opposing the demons. Although some human outposts were made to hide from the demons, they are slowly being found and the inhabitants put into towers. Your characters will start in one of these towers and find themselves all fortunate to be in an older cell were you could force the door open. You find yourself with a choice, do you stay in the cell for the rest of your life and live long but suffer, or risk dying a early death in an attempt to escape the tower? The choice is yours (although we all know you're going to pick the latter or else there would be no RP) Races Human: A fairly young race that have short life spans but are quite courageous and versatile. Can use any class well. Elf: Long living forest-folk said to be able to live for hundreds of years. They make good rangers, wizards, and druids. Half-Elves: Taking the best from both races, these half-breeds are quite charismatic and multi-class well. Dwarves: A short humanoid race who are resistant to magic and are quite strong. Their favored classes are fighters and barbarians but due to their magic resistance, they can't be any magic based class. Drow: The darker cousins of elves who are cunning and generally evil. Drow are good at being Rogues, Warlocks, and Rangers. Tieflings: The current invasion of demons isn't the first time the Demons appeared. Tieflings were once human but somewhere in their ancestry a dark pact was made with the demons to grant them more power over demonic magics. Tieflings favored classes are Warlocks, Rogues, and Sorcerers. Halflings: A small race of humanoid creatures that are known for being peaceful, but there are an adventurous few out there. They make good Rogues and Bards. Half-Giants: A split between human and giant, they tower among most humans and have the strength of their Giant kin. They make great Barbarians and Monks. Half-Orcs: Unlike Half-Elves, Half-Orcs aren't as loved by the human communities that take them in. However, Orc communities praise Half-Orcs, for although they aren't as strong as pure orcs, they are much more intelligent and they make good strategist. Half-Orcs favor being Fighters and Warlords. Fighter: Exceptional martial combatants. They aren't merely brutes as many think, but quite versatile and can use all types of armor from light to heavy, and all martial weapons. Rogue: Tricky fighters that generally use unfair techniques to grant them the upper hand. They can only use medium and light armor and one handed weapons (although they can still dual-wield) Wizard: They spend hours in study of the arcane arts and are one of the most powerful classes, however they are brittle. Wizards can't wear any armor and can only use simple weapons. When casting a spell, it must be prepared before being cast. To learn more spells you must find a scroll or other source of magic and spend time writing it in your spellbook. Sorcerer: Much like the wizards except instead of having to study to understand the arcane, it merely comes to them by sheer willpower. Sorcerers can cast spells spontaneously without preparation, thus allowing faster spells but you can't learn spells by scribing them in a spellbook so you are limited in your number of spells. The same weapon and armor limitations for wizards apply to sorcerers. Ranger: Masterful archers or dual-weapon wielders. They are also superb at stealth and dealing damage at the same caliber of even sorcerers. Can use only medium and light armor but can use any martial weapon. Warlock: Similar to Sorcerers that they don't need to study the arcane but instead of arcane magic, Warlocks command darker magic including curses that debuff the enemy and spells that deal a slow death. (Same limitations as wizards and sorcerers) Cleric: Warriors of their chosen god, Clerics use divine magics to heal and buff their allies and can still defend themselves. Can use medium and light armor and light weapons. Barbarian: Strong brutes that are able to take hits, move fast, and hit hard. Can use medium and light armor, can use all martial weapons. Barbarians also have rages that give them increased strength and energy but leaves them fatigued. Paladin: Like fighters but divine based and much more focused on healing and defense of allies. They have some divine abilities like healing and buffing but none are as powerful as the clerics. Can use all armors and all martial weapons. Druid: Similar to the wizard and cleric but nature based. Can wildshape into an animal. Can use light armor but only natural materials (no metal) and simple weapons but only natural materials. Bard: Known commonly as the jack of all trades class. They can do just about anything, whether it be some minor magic, some help in the battle, or otherwise. Bards however are most known for their musical ability that helps allies in battle, and for their charisma. Bards are proficient with one handed weapons, small shields, and up to light armor. Bards are favored by Halflings. Monk: As a monk, your body is your weapon. Your fists hurt like hammers and your skin is like an armor to you. Monks are proficient with simple weapons and no armor, although they prefer to use their fists. Monks are favored by Half-Giants. Psion: Psions are closely related to Wizard, except instead of using Arcane might to power themselves, they use Psychic abilities powered by their mind. Instead of casting through memorization of spells however, Psions manifest themselves through use of their own internal power and use a list of powers from their mind. A Psion however is able to make even their basic powers more powerful through a process called Augmentation, where they use more power on a certain power to make it stronger. They carry the same limitations as a wizard. Psions aren't favored marginally by any one race since any race can be a good psion, even dwarves. Warlord: Much like the bard, the Warlord inspires his allies in combat to fight better. A warlord however unlike a Bard trades his musical and arcane abilities for enhanced martial prowess and is a better tactician. Template Name: Character's name. Gender: Male or female. Race: Use given races unless a race you send me is approved. Age: How old your character is. Class: The class your character is. Identify if multi classing. Appearance: Describe the appearance of your character. Personality: The way your character acts. Alignment: Basic indicator of how your character will act in certain situations. Revolves around Law/Chaos and Good/Evil axies. History: A back story for your character. Weapon(s): The weapon(s) your character uses. Perk: The bonus your character receives for going with or against Favored Class. Magic: The magic your character is capable of using. Template for Copy/Paste
Perks Perks are a thing that your character will gain for either going with Favored Classes, or for the atypical combinations, a bonus somewhere else. They are based off of Race and Class. All Races Race Specific Humans/Half-Elves/Half-Orcs: These races don't have race specific Perks, but are able to pick 2 perks from the general list. Elf Dwarf Drow Tiefling These are of course examples and you can make your own perks for use in ToL. Just be sure to run them by me before you use them so I can approve it. Additional General Perks: Fighter: *(Weapon) Proficiency: You are particularly good at using a specific weapon. Wall of Steel: Your defenses are impenetrable and you are hard to damage. Ranger: *Favored Enemy: Against one specific type of monster you gain a large advantage. Cleric: *Domain of ___: Your deity grants you additional spells of their domain that other clerics can't use *These can all be taken multiple times (for those that apply to multiple perks) |

This has nothing to do with ToL or any of the other ideas, just wanted to throw out an idea for a magic system I had this morning: Basically the system involves instead of magic being based upon elements such as fire, water, earth, air, etc., it is based off of colors. The colors and what they identify are listed below Red: This involves impact or chaos magic. What this means is that it is very offensive and has little to no ways of defending itself, making others weaker, or allies stronger. It is generally erratic and can be quite unpredictable. Blue: Blue magic covers mental magic and counters. Mental magic covers a wide spectrum of things and includes spells such as memory wipes, enhanced senses, and increased reflexes. Blue magic is also the best magic for countering spells, although defenses past that are pretty brittle. Black: Black magic is the magic of debuffs and damage over time spells. The spells are generally focused on making their opponent weaker and then defeating them slowly and painfully. Green: Green magic is the most defensive and 'brute force' of the 5 colors. While it doesn't directly harm others like red spells do, green spells are good at making the user stronger and then attacking the other person, directly crashing into their defenses, sometimes breaking them to allow for a follow up attack. Green magic is quite slow to cast however. White: White magic is used for buffing allies and other support. White mages most commonly use their spells on other people rather than themselves since their own attacks aren't extremely strong in the first place. It should be noted now that these colors aren't all necessarily linked to an element. For example, it is possible for a Blue mage to specialize in lightning or a Green mage to use light based spells. Another thing is that there is such thing as dual-coloring and even tr-coloring. The way that it works is based somewhat around a circle that works with colors matching or conflicting each other. This is as follows: Red: Goes with black and green, is opposed by white and blue Blue: Goes with black and white, is opposed by green and red Black: Goes with red and blue, is opposed by white and green Green: Goes with white and red, is opposed by blue and black White: Goes with green and blue, is opposed by black and red As you can see, it is simple to see which colors are used with what when using dual or tri colored magi. These combinations don't have exact types of magic set in stone however and is up to the rp-er to choose what the combination yields. Just because the colors don't match however, it doesn't mean they can't be dual-colored together. It is possible to have a blue-red mage, the only problem is is that along with having a powerful combination perhaps (in this case attacks that can go through defenses and spells that can counter others), there are some consequences such as madness/or insanity that one may deal with (or some other side effect that I will have to think up later). Although dual-coloring opposing colors is possible, it is impossible for one to tri-color with an opposing element (ie combinations like red-blue-white are impossible). A final thing I am considering whether to implement or not is that whatever color the mage chooses, it has some sort of effect on their personality. For some quick examples: Blue: Analytic Red: Unpredictable Black: Selfish Green: Patient White: Kind Dual/tri-coloring would combine personalities as expected |

I feel like you're just renaming existing magic fields with the names of colors (Red is just typical destruction magic, white is holy, etc.). Also, any color can be mixed together. You may not get a pretty color, but any color can be mixed together. As for personalities I feel you just copied what was in your sig, but I only have your sig to base it on. |

Of course I based it on Magic the Gathering. The point was just to separate magic into the types of spells there are and leave the rper to decide their elements. And they also can't mix just any color in this system because certain colors actively oppose each other. Its not just like painting where you can do just whatever with the colors. |

Alchemist/Artificer/Thief Idea Name: Grant Wayland Gender: Male Age: 22 Appearance: Grant stands a bit shorter than average and is a bit lighter than the average person as well. He has short cut brown hair and dull gray eyes. He has a tanned complexion and his attire looks like that of a mechanics: short sleeved white shirt with long brown pants. On his belt he has several pouches that contain various ingredients and mechanical parts he uses to make potions and magical items in his off time. Backstory: Grant was raised in a middle-upper class family with roots in crafting arcane objects, be it potions or enchanting weapons. By the time he was born however, the art was considered dead in the family as no great craftsmen or women have been born for decades in the family. It was when Grant was a teenager however that he should signs of being able to bend magic weaves and form them to various objects. His forging wasn't as great as that of his ancestors, but he was still skilled enough to gather some notice of locals. His works to him however were too mundane for his tastes and eventually turned to something his family hadn't touched for centuries, alchemy. He had to practice Alchemy in secret however as before the Church already was wary of him, and he knew they would think he was practicing dark magic if they were to find out he was practicing alchemy. Although his work was much slower in Alchemy than it was in being an Artificer, he appreciated the grandeur and scale of power the objects he made now held. He devoted most of his time to research and experiments and soon became obsessed with a quest he had called "The Magnum Opus", he was trying to forge the Philosopher's Stone. He spent years working, mixing metals, bending magic, reforming magic, and even had to create an entire new system of enchanting in order to complete some steps. It took years, but he eventually reached a vital first step in his quest, ironically, by accident; he had made a Living Metal similar to that of Mercury. Grant had called it "Azoth" and used it as a multi-tool in his shop and it helped speed some processes along. He continued his work and was on the verge of another breakthrough, but then tragedy struck. When he returned to his workshop one day, he saw that everything was moved and some objects stolen. Grant went mad with rage, whatever wasn't broken in his shop was broken and even that wasn't enough for him. He left his shop and in the dead of night went to the church, thinking they were the ones who did it, thinking that they must have found out what he had been doing for the past few years. The only thing he had left to show for all his work was Azoth, which he had clenched in his fist. He threw open the doors of the church and approached the Priest who looked stunned to see him. The Priest stood and tried to calm the greatly angered Grant, but grant would hear none of it. He drew his arm back and saw that Azoth had streamed through his fingers and solidified into the shape a long and slender punching dagger. Grant had never entertained the idea before of murdering someone, but now he didn't even think before driving the dagger through the mans stomach. Grant pulled out the metal which was now covered in blood and the Priest yelled in pain. Grant made a slash at the throat, silencing the man and killing him. When he realized what he had done Grant escaped from the Church and left the town, not wanting to face punishment for his crime. Since then he had taken up traveling from town to town, making crafts as an artificer only, not an alchemist, knowing that that path lead only to madness, despair, and paranoia. Weapon: "Azoth" - In its base state, it appears to be a perfectly spherical ball of metal about the size of a racquetball. It actually is a sample of living metal that Grant has created that can shift into any shape as long as it retains the same total mass and volume. Density can increase/decrease as well if needed to fit smaller/larger shapes. Image Armor: - Inventory: Portable Ember Bag of Holding Spectacles of Comprehend Languages Spells: To Be Filled Need to keep editing so keeping this here for storage for now. I'm going to try something out this time around. I'm going to make 2 characters at once, one a nostalgic throwback for myself, and the other a revamping of the first and just see how they roll out. Name: Leon Lux Lucis Gender: Male Age: 23 Appearance: 5'10", Brown Hair, Brown Eyes, Banded Mail armor, tower shield, lance (never really had a solid appearance for this guy when I made him years ago hehehe) Backstory: Back when I made this guy my DM asked me, "So what is this guys backstory?" And I literally was lost for words because I hadn't thought of it. I was so excited to just play that I hadn't thought of one so I'll tell you what I told him at the time: "Well, as a kid he was bullied frequently so to stop them he became a knight and learned to hit hard because he has 18 strength." It worked for him and honestly it never was called back up so we can just ignore it XD Main Hand Weapon: Lance Off-hand Weapon: Tower Shield Sub-Weapon 1: Trident Sub-Weapon 2: - Armor: Banded Mail armor Inventory: Military Saddle 50ft. Hemp Rope 4x Rations Simple Lock Backpack Spells:--- Yep, this was my first D&D character ever. He didn't last long as the group disbanded after 2 sessions, but he was still damn fun to play Name: Leonel Frelich Pellean III Gender: Male Age: 21 Appearance: Leonel is quite tall and has a girth to match his height. He stands at 7 feet tall and he is quite muscular, a fact hidden slightly by the full plate armor he wears. The fullplate looks average although it is bulkier and colored blue with some edges gilded in gold and he doesn't wear the helmet. He has medium length brown hair and green eyes. On his back when not in use is his tower shield along with his greatsword. Backstory: Leonel is known mostly for being a noble and a giant of a man. He lived an average life for someone as his status with the difference of he liked very much to train with his father's guard and took a liking to using large weapons normally wielded in two hands with just one hand. He was relatively unknown by most until tragedy struck his house and his brother was killed for unknown reasons. He was surprisingly calm for it and spent his time learning who did it and where the organization the man worked for was stationed. When he learned where that was, he grabbed two longswords from the armory but no armor and calmly walked to the building that held the man the murdered his brother. Luckily for Leonel, the man that murdered his brother answered the door, not expecting to see the brother of the man he killed. Before he could shut the door Leonel put his foot in the door and handed the man a sword and calmly challenged the man to a gentleman's duel. The murderer looked puzzled and eventually when he found his words refused but Leonel, towering over the man, challenged him again this time much more forcefully and the man accepted. He handed the man the sword and took a few steps back and waited for the murderer to strike, not even assuming a stance for defense. The man attacked Leonel and with all his force behind a parry sundered the man's blade and then in one fluid motion put all his rage into one blow and decapitated the man, cutting through even the vertebrae to the amazement of some people who had come to watch. Then to nobody in particular Leonel spoke, "Hm, brave enough to kill a man with a knife, yet he becomes a coward the instant a fair fight is handed to him." Then he turned and walked away. Main Hand Weapon: Greatsword Off-hand Weapon: Tower Shield (imagine the red is blue) Armor: Bulky Full Plate Armor Inventory: -- Spells: "Magic? What, you mean make it easy!? You can use your pansy magic all you want, I'll be over here fighting like a REAL man!" Edited by Garm0099, December 23, 2012, 11:08 pm.

This will probably never evolve into anything, but someday I will create a character who is completely inspired by titles of songs by Hammerfall and other Power Metal groups. I actually wrote some ideas done at one point and it actually got quite far. I never did an official character sheet, but what I will do is write down the titles of songs and say what my ideas were for them Crimson Thunder: Main form of attack was a chaotic form of lightning that was colored a deep red Blood Bound: He had a twin brother Last Man Standing: The two fight And then there was Silence: Twin dies Keep the Flame Burning: Twin used fire magic, PC used lightning, PC absorbs his power (don't ask how or why) and now uses Crimson Thunder Hammerfall: He uses a hammer as a melee weapon I'm sure I had a few more but that's all I got right now. Honestly when I was thinking of this a long time ago it was a quite fun thought experiment but I doubt I will ever make this as a character since it would basically be me going around being Thor but red lol Edited by Garm0099, January 2, 2013, 6:53 pm.
