Asta was quiet as they started their journey towards the coast. She was really sad to see that Farron would not be joining them. She wished the woman could come with them, but she guessed it wasn't meant to be. Sighing, she watched as a bird landed on top Camulus' head and sang to her and tried to cheer her up. She smiled wanly at him as she let him to continue to sing for her.

Aleron was doing alright but was eager to be on the road again, not used to staying in one spot for long. Plus it would be easier to train to Millicent where magick was not outlawed.

Milli, for once, was comfortable. Well, more comfortable than she had been. It was bitter sweet to see Farron stay beind but she understood the reasoning behind it. She trodded along beside Alek, unable to keep from looking toward her continued lessons with Aleron. She'd made so much progress with someone beside her that knew how to help her.

She knew Alek was still stressed and she didn't blame him. These were stressful times but she hoped once they were further away she'd be able to get him to calm down a little. It had been an...interesting few days. While she'd decided to grow closer to the others, Alek seemed to just push himself further away. It concerned her, honestly.

She finally spoke up, tucking her hair behind her ear. "So.....how long do we have before the boat leaves Ski'lavik?" She asked him curiously, wondering if they'd have time to stock up before the long maritime trip. Plus...she just wanted to talk him.

Randon plodded along with the siblings, annoyed at Farron for bailing. He hadn't made it easy on her...but his mind was obviously set. It would be weird going forward without her, but at least she'd given him SOME time to become adjusted to the group as a whole. He was happy to be away from guard dog at least.

He looked over as the bird decided to sing to Asta to try and cheer her up. He didn't even know what to say, knowing the girl really liked Farron. Both young women did. It would be interesting from now on...

Alek didn't look up from his map, "Mm... word is it's not due to leave for two weeks...which if we arrive within five days will give us plenty of time to decide if it's what we truly want to do. Farron did have a point... it's quite a distance... but the Lavik Empire doesn't outlaw magick," he said, finally glancing her way. "It isn't overly fond, but it isn't illegal. It's the nearest place we can go to be safe from direct persecution, I think...." He looked back to he map, nudging Grey along as the gelding got overly distracted by long prairie grasses sticking out over the road.

Millicent nodded as he spoke, idly running her fingers through her steed's mane. "Well while I enjoy the prospect of not being hunted in the streets my prerogative is to get as far away from Mirid as possible." She said simply with a shrug, not holding the same attachment Farron did. Or even Alek. The only ones she really cared for back there were her sister and Leila. She knew Leila would have things under control, though.

Asta sighed as she watched the bird, trying to fight to give the small thing a smile, but it was hard. She had truly thought that travelling with a group would be different, but she still felt the same. Too shy to try and even talk to them. There was no point talking to Alek, Milli was sweet but it still felt weird talking to Royalty. And it didn't help that the girl was as shy as she was. Then there was Randon... she had no idea what to think about Randon.

"Understandable," Alek conceded as he folded the map and slid it into his saddlebag. He glanced back at the others, just barely able to see them plodding along behind. It had been his idea to minimize their group... that way if something did happen, the other half could appear and maybe scare off any bandits or anything of the sort. With any luck at all from the gods, they'd get to Vallonde without any incident. Alek had a nasty feeling that wasn't going to happen though.

Not much of a conversationalist before, Alek was even less of one now. His eyes turned back forward and stayed there on the horizon, wishing the grand city of Vallonde would just appear...

"Bird got ye tongue lass?" Randon mused as he plodded up beside her, tired of the ridiculous silence in the group.

--

Millicent resisted rolling her eyes, feeling like she had more than just an understandable reason. She let the silence linger a little longer, thinking she'd have a more stimulating conversation with Kisha at this rate. "So...you said your grandparents are in Vallonde. What are they like?" She asked with a curious look over to him. If she had to pry it out of him he would be eventually able to carry a civil conversation. Even if it was just with her...it was a start. Right?

Alek was quiet for a few beats before blinking and looking over to her. "....I'm not really sure to be honest. They're my mother's parents. After her death, we didn't see them much. They said it was too painful to see us. The last time we went to Vallonde, I had only just celebrated my eighth nameday." Presuming this was the answer she was looking for, Alek didn't offer anything else.

Millicent nodded, thinking over his answer before continuing. "Do you remember anything about them? Personality...funny memories..." She asked, albeit gently. What she found interesting was that he'd originally thought they'd help them when they got to Vallonde. He didn't exactly seem enthusiastic....

Another lengthy pause sat between them before Alek answered. He was hesitant, but eventually seemed to convince himself to reply. "They're jewelers. My grandmother owns the business... she runs it. My grandfather did the procuring in his younger days, but... then eventually stayed at home with my mother after she was born... I remember him smiling a lot. They both did, but my grandmother was more pointed... a little bit more direct. Why do you ask?"
