"I suppose," he conceded quietly. He still didn't quite understand why Leila thought any of this was proper for a princess, even one on the run, to be wearing in public. But women had their reasons, he decided.

"My body is fine, I assure you," he said as he kept his gaze steady on her. "I'll rest tonight... I've plenty of time. The sun still remains on the horizon." He gestured absently out the window and fervently shook his head. "You never have to thank me, princess." His voice was gentle, the term she hated so much more a reverence than an intentional insult. "It wasn't I who saved you... it was Aleron. It's him and his patience and books you should thank. I'd never have allowed myself to read a book to find an answer. If he hadn't...." He trailed off, preferring not to finish that thought.

Randon waited patiently, hearing the panic in her voice. "Did ye set somethin on fire lass?" He called up, sounding kind of amused. He watched, wincing as she fell to the stable floor. He squatted beside her with a sigh, "You okay lass? Took a ratha nasty spill.." He told her resting a hand lightly on her shoulder to keep her from getting up too fast.

Millicent gave him a look, knowing he was lying but before she could argue he brought up the fact that he wasn't really the one to save her. She shook her head, "I didn't mean...You and Aleron both took part in my recovery and cure, don't eva think differently." She said, taking a beat so she was truly looking at him. "I...Leila left a note in my bags. She explained what was going on...the plot against me. How Phillip had bloody permission from the king to torture me. How they were going to come after you..."

She paused with a small shrug, "Without you I wouldn't have made it even out of the forest. That is what I'm thanking ye for. For saving me from that horrid life. For helping me gain my freedom." She told him, a shy smile on her lips. She knew she'd said similar things but this was the true, sincere, non-pain-induced one. She really didn't know where she'd be....

About a chapter later, Aleron realized he was over when he would said he would stop and sighed. Closing the manuscript gently, he placed the book onto his nightstand before standing up with a groan. He was excited to be sleeping in a bed tonight. He loved the road and travelling, but he could only sleep on the ground so much. Stretching his muscles and rolling his shoulders, he headed to his door and exiting before walking down the hall to Alek and Millicent's room.

-

"It's okay." Asta gasped as she coughed, trying to catch her breath. "Happens all the time." She wheezed as she closed her eyes. Opening them again, she blinked as she stared up at Randon. "So... dinner's ready?" She asked as she tried to scramble back up, her cheeks slowly turning bright red from embarrassment. She couldn't believe Randon had just witnessed that!

Randon quirked an amused eyebrow, "Then maybe ye should reconsider your perch. What ah ye doin' up theya anyway?" He asked, standing up then as she scrambled to her feet before nodding. "Yeah. Well...it will be soon. I was sent te get ye, obviously. I think Farron just wanted to see if she could steal time with ye brotha." He added, amusement in his voice as he led her out of the stables.

Alek was about to protest and insist that it was Aleron she needed to be thanking when she brought up the entire situation as her reason for thanking him.

He turned his eyes back out the window as his expression shifted only the slightest bit; he looked..... sad, perhaps. Melancholy?

"I never would have left you there to suffer through that. I know you're my princess and I only your guard... but..." He trailed off before glancing over to her again, the look gone from his face. "I would've done anything to get you away from them. I still will. They can turn the world against you, Millicent, and I'll hold it back." There was absolutely no doubt in his voice, no hesitation, not even a hint of question.

Aleron meandered lazily over to the room that Alek and Millicent were sharing and knocked on the door quietly. "Just informing you that dinner will be served soon if you wish to attend and grab something to eat." He told them before walking over to the stairs to head down to join Farron hopefully.

-

"Me? Oh I was doing nothing!" Asta replied rather quickly to Randon's question as she followed him out of the stables. She currently had quite a bit of straw sticking out of her hair and she was trying to comb it all out. "And steal time with Aleron?" She asked with an adorable wrinkle of her nose. "Why would she do that?"

Farron was already seated at a table with a mug of honey mead in front of her and a plate full of fresh baked chicken, just slaughtered today! as the nice old lady had informed her, hot potatoes and a hunk of yeast bread twice the size of her fist. She didn't care about the massive portion sizes, she knew she'd finish it all because it was hot, fresh, and smelled absolutely mouth-watering.

Pyr was humming against her chest, a soothing warmth emanating from his amulet as she took her first bite of chicken and nearly fainted from it's juicy wonderfulness... She'd considered waiting for the others, but with no indication any of them were going to show, she didn't feel the need to follow through with the waiting part.

Milli felt her cheeks turn a bit red as he continued. She went to comment, trying to ignore the contorting of her stomach. What did Leila call it? Butterflies? Well whatever it was it needed to stop. She paused as she heard Aleron at the door, looking back to Alek then. "Well I thank ye for that. From the bottom of my heart. I'm glad I am lucky enough to have someone like you looking out for me." She told him finally, a small, shy smile on her lips. She surprised herself, leaning over and kissed his cheek lightly before walking over to the door.

"You up for dinner?" She asked, changing the subject very quickly and tried to keep the red out of her cheeks. She decided she wasn't going to over think what she'd just done. Well...try not to.

Aleron spotted Farron soon enough and made his way over to the table she was sitting at. "Is the food any good?" He asked quietly so as not to upset the owners of the quiet inn. He had to admit that he was eager for a good, hot, homemade meal. He took the seat next to Farron as he smiled at her, happy to have caught her before the rest had made it down for food.
