Millicent nodded, taking a sip of water before speaking, "We visited another castle when I was a wee lass. The son had a croc as a pet of sorts so it was just kind of wandering as it pleased in a huge section of the grounds." She explained with a small smile and a shake of her head. "They were an odd family to begin with...but that thing gave me the terrors while we were there. Specially since one of the servants admitted that it tended to escape..." "Who the bloody hell gives a child a croc as a pet?" Randon laughed in disbelief, shaking his head a bit. Millicent just gave a shrug, "Royalty is odd like that. Many find themselves above having a "normal" pet so...yeah they tend to go the route of something that can eat them." |

((Dude, I literally have dictionary.com up at all times with him. MY question is, how the hell do I know these words?!)) "I've the coin," Alek said as he removed a small leather satchel that was hidden under the first layer of his clothing. "What's the price?" The man smiled, no immediate answer upon his lips as the stiff man finally stepped forward to speak. "What is the worth to ye, friend?" Alek just sort of stumbled for a second before looking at the man, trying hard not to glare. This wasn't a time for...frivolities. He didn't want to play any games right now, he wanted to buy the whatever-it-was, pay, and leave. Simple, straight forward. "Whatever the price is," he answered abruptly. The man just laughed quietly, "Isn't that what I've asked of you? Mayhaps ye haven't as much need as ye intended." |

((I kind of love when that happens! A word pops into your head and you use it and you're like ... wait, how did I know this?! xD)) Aleron bit back his sigh as he watched Alek interact with the stranger. He watched the other man carefully before looking back over at the guardsman. They'd get nowhere if Alek lost his patience now... "Perhaps if we had a starting price? Or maybe know something of what the Lady Roisin needs? I'm sure we can land on a reasonable price." He interceded smoothly. - "Somebody had one as a pet?!" Asta exclaimed, her eyes wide with horror. "That's terrible! I'd be so scared that it would eat me as I slept! How could you keep such a thing as a pet?!" Edited by never_fade_away, Aug 9 2014, 05:16 AM.

Millicent shook her head, "When a young prince wants something they get it. They fed it anything it wanted, pretty much. Live and slaughtered. I was terrified it would eat me at night. It wasn't a fun trip." She agreed, laughing softly at the memory as she ran a hand through her hair. |

"I've not even the faintest of ideas what the lady needs," the man said with a smile to Aleron, though his eyes were pinned on the younger lad, who was gripping his satchel with increasingly whitened knuckles. " 'A man who presumes, loses,'" he quoted offhandedly. "What's your purpose here anyhow," Alek demanded suddenly, irritated at this stranger's annoying way of beating around the bush. Millicent was very literally dying and this man was having a go at them for the fun of it. "You've led us here and we've thanked you for that but I feel as though now you're simply here for the 'fun' of it." He didn't really mean to say it, but it came out before he could stop himself. The man's eyes flashed up at Alek, but it was at that moment the beads shifted and Roisin emerged again, interrupting the exchange. She smiled as she walked over to Aleron and held out a small vial of sky blue liquid in one hand and what looked to be a small pouch tightly wrapped shut with a cord in the other. She looked expectantly back at the stranger, who still had sharp eyes on Alek. "Give the friend the phial first, a simple drink that'll cool the body and numb the poison, halting it's murderous path. Next, spread th'salve on the wound, wherever it be, and leave it unmarred for th'time it takes for the sun to rise and set again. Gods willing, it'll be done." |

Aleron very nearly groaned as Alek lost his temper and started in on the stranger. He understood that the guard was under a lot of stress, but couldn't he use his head for once?! He was ready to step in and try to fix whatever he needed to before Roisin, bless her soul, reappeared with the antidote. He let out a breath as he shot her a grateful smile. "Thank you ever so much for your time and hard work, milady." He thanked her graciously. "We were just discussing the subject of payment. Is there anything that you would like in trade or is it currency you wish?" He asked her, hoping that maybe she could help diffuse the situation. - "But what I don't understand is WHY you would want a pet like that?! It is wild so you can not control it, so it could eat you as well as anyone else! It does no matter where its next meal comes from." Asta questioned with a frown on her face as she thought about this. |

Millicent shook her head, "Some people don't see it that way. They see these creatures as symbols of status. Of wealth. To simply be able to say "look what I can afford" to others. As is about 99% of royal life te be quite frank..." She informed Asta simply, amusement in her voice. She knew the girl had fantasies of what royal life entailed but reality didn't live up to the dream unfortunately. |

Roisin held up a hand and shook her head. "The lady wishes nothing but the health of your friend," the man said as Roisin nodded in agreement. He stood up to his full height, the sharpness in his eyes dissipating steadily as the young woman just bobbed her head with a smile. She closed Aleron's hands around the items and waved him toward the door. "She bids ye farewell and good eve, good sirs, and that should ye require her particular skills again to ne'er be a stranger." Even though the man had irritated Alek, he wasn't without manners. He drew a few coins from his small pouch and stepped forward to hand them to Roisin. "We sincerely thank you, Miss, for being so accommodating at such an hour. I apologize for disturbing your rest..please, at least take these, for your time." "Oho, so tame, the beast inside," the stranger commented at Alek's gesture. Roisin shot him a quick look but accepted the coins with a curtsy. Alek frowned a bit; he wasn't used to that sort of behavior towards himself. "I apologize, but we must be on our way." He shot a look to Aleron and after a light bow to the lady and a spared glance to the man, Alek reached for the door and walked out. They had more important places to be. Aleron bowed immediately at Roisin's gift. "Then we thank you for your overwhelming generosity, Milady." He thanked the woman. "If we are ever in need of your skills and in the area, we know who to come to or where to send people." He offered up for her, knowing that somebodies good word was sometimes a better way to draw in customers than anything else. He looked to Alek before back to the strange man. "And I must give you recognition my friend for your help in all of this tonight, you have truly helped us out of a tight spot." He thanked the man, but didn't quite say the words thank you. - Asta just stared at Millicent, obviously soaking in her words with the way she listened. She frowned slightly as she digested it all and shook her head. "That has to be the silliest thing I've ever heard. If ye have so much coin to spare, why waste it on such frivolous things? Why not put it to good use?" She asked. "There are plenty of starving children in the streets that could use a warm meal and dry place to sleep if ye are that willing to get rid of your money!" |

Millicent laughed softly, "If only. Would make more sense, right? No, most upperclassmen only care about themselves and impressing others of the same stature. Royalty, or those wishing to marry royalty, are no different. There are occasions when you'll come across a few who do good by their people. Or at least as best as they can " She supplied simply, knowing her father had been one such ruler. It was her mother that insisted on the frivolity. "The wealth of a king also reflects the wealth of his kingdom. If alliances are to be made, both parties must feel secure. So, there is a political angle behind it as well but mostly its simply to showcase what they have." |
