Randon smiled over at Asta as she joined then, Nyss having settled back into the locket for the moment to rest. She loved her new freedom but it was a bit exhausting. Luckily, since the promise had been fulfilled she could leave and come as she pleased but...she'd grown rather fond of Milli over the years. Millicent also looked up as Asta sat with them, giving her a small but tired smile. She knew Alek had told her to leave without the others if something happened but she'd only agreed to appease him, honestly. That kind of self preservation didn't exsist in her. "Randon told me you're getting good at a card trick he showed you..." She mused, her voice still sore from earlier but she didn't want to rid of them of all their water. |

Asta blushed as she nodded, still trying to get over the fact that Millicent was royalty and she was actually talking to HER. "I didn't even think I could do it, but I surprised myself." She admitted. "How are you feeling M-Millicent?" She changed from Milady to her name, having remembered what the girl had said to Aleron when they had first started travelling together. |

Millicent gave her a small nod with a faint smile. Asta was a sweet girl, but her persona was a bit bipolar. She was either talking her mind or painfully shy. "I think we all surprise ourselves at one point or another with what we can accomplish." She mused, though she'd never use herself as an example. She definitely wasn't overtly surprised she'd managed to screw it up this early in the game. "Please, lass, call me Milli, and I can't lie and say I feel fine, but I'm no better but no worse..." She told her with a light shrug. While she still had waves of nausea she knew there was nothing left in her stomach. In reality she wanted to lay, let her muscles rest, but she was afraid she would fall asleep. It wasn't that she was afraid of those around her...it was that she was afraid she wouldn't open her eyes again. |

Asta blushed as Millicent shortened her name even more. This was definitely going to take getting used to. "Well Aleron will be back soon with your Alek and he'll have exactly what you need." She promised the princess. "Aleron is really good with plants and almost as good with animals. He'll know exactly what to get you." |

Alek absorbed the information and kept his further thoughts to himself as they rode into the village. By the time they approached, the lanterns had all been lit for a while and the streets were all but empty. Stray cats and dogs fluttered here and there looking for scraps from the day's bustle, but overall, it was silent. They passed a couple of taverns and even those were relatively quiet in contrast to what Alek was used to dealing with back in Mirid... They stayed on the main street in, making their way to the center square of Beyfield. Alek was sure there had to be an apothecary on the first Ring and it was likely the most notable one. There was no chance of them asking anyone... they hadn't even seen a guard patrol since arrival. It was just...quiet. After finally arriving at the middle square, Alek looked around at the buildings that surrounded the square of green, lush grass and in the middle, an enormous tree that towered over them and was wider than any tree Alek had ever seen. The famed Beyfield Oak. It's limbs twisted this way and that in intricate patterns and unique shapes, the leaves as verdant as the grass that grew beneath the tree. It was there, at the base of that tree, that Alek and Aleron heard a voice, the voice of the first person they came across. He was singing quietly and they could identify him as a man from the low, rich, melodic tones of his tenor range. He was lounging back against the trunk of the tree which caved around him in such a way as if it were holding him close, embracing him even. The only reason they could see this was there was a lantern beside him, glittering with the glow of a flame that was bright enough to illuminate what was around it, but did not fully illuminate him. Alek glanced at Aleron as he pulled Grey to a brief stop. |

Aleron was content ride the rest of the way to the city in silence. As they approached the gates, he began to keep an eye out for an apothecary, noting how quiet the smaller city was. It was such a difference from the bustle of Mirid, but a nice difference in his eyes. If he ever decided to finally settle down, he figured he'd be in a smaller city. Quiet, but not ridiculously tiny like his home village. As the approached the center of the city (still not sign of an apothecary), he noted the rather large and famous tree of Beyfield. The old oak was truly a magnificent sight to behold, and any other day when he had more time, he'd love to sit at the roots of the tree and just commune there. Apparently, somebody else had the same idea and he heard the first notes of somebody singing. He raised his eyebrow as he looked over at Alek to meet the guardsman's gaze. He'd seen the man sitting on the ground under the lantern and it almost made him want to frown. He tossed his head discreetly towards the gentleman, asking Alek if he wanted to ask him for directions or not. |

"I don't think it's a particularly wise idea... just to go up to someone and ask directions. What the hells is he doing there anyway? It's a few hours to middle-night...why is he sitting there and singing?" Alek didn't like the situation at all, but he was literally the only person they'd seen since arriving. "There has to be an apothecary on this square," he told Aleron as he nudged Grey forward, the horses' hooves clopping on the cobblestone streets. "Let's....just keep looking." The man continued to sing, his voice never growing louder or softer. It was an exceptionally pleasing song, even to the men's ears, though whatever language he was singing in wasn't the Common Tongue. |

Aleron just raised his eyebrow at Alek's words before shrugging. "It's your mission, you lead." Was all he replied as he nudged his horse after Alek. While he agreed that something was a little off here, he just felt like maybe they should stop and ask for directions. Wouldn't that be quicker and wasn't time of the essence at this moment? And what language was that man singing in?! It was something he had never heard before and THAT was new. He knew a lot of different languages thanks to his travels... |

Alek led them around the square twice before stopping at one of the connecting roads that led to the next Ring of the city. They hadn't seen an apothecary's shop... but Alek was absolutely certain there had to be one here. They just couldn't afford to waste time combing Ring by Ring. It would take forever, since each Ring was collectively larger than the last and it could take literal days... He pulled Grey to an abrupt stop, which the beast didn't like. He snorted and stamped his foot at the action. "We can't wast time like this," he said, sounding very agitated at the moment. His eyes drifted over to the man, still at the base of the tree, still singing, but this tune was a bit more jaunty than the last. The last had sounded sad, almost longing. "We have to ask," he mumbled, very unhappy with their situation. |

Aleron just allowed Alek to lead them around in a complete circle, waiting for the guardsman to change his mind. It actually took less time than he thought it would. Huh, incredible. Maybe he wasn't quite as obstinate as he thought. "I'll ask him then." He smiled at him before hopping off of his horse and approaching the stranger at the base of the tree. "Excuse me good sir." He said, not wishing to interrupt his singing. "But my friend and I are a bit lost. Could you perhaps point us in the right direction to the apothecary?" |
