"I don't want to! Just leave me here and I'll fend for myself." Asta groaned as Aleron chuckled, whistling out again as the bird once more swooped down to mess with Asta's hair.

"OKAY! Okay, just stop!" She whined as she opened her eyes once more to glare blearily at Aleron before slowly starting to get up. As she began to sat up, the bird flew back over to Aleron and hopped on his shoulder as he told him something excitedly before flying off.

"There. Nobody was harmed, so I call this a successful morning." Aleron grinned over at Farron with a wink.

Alek accepted the blanket and shrugged his shoulder again. "Worry not, I'm quite fine. Remember? I did overnights and double duty plenty of times because we were late or missed something important. This is child's play, I assure you." He held his hand down to her. "Do you need help up?"

--

Farron chuckled and nodded, 'A successful waking indeed, though I don't think everyone here might agree." She watched as the bird fluttered away and glanced at Aleron curiously. She did find herself wondering what sort of abilities he truly had. She wondered if he really did desire to speak with Pyr.... and if the magma Soul would allow him to.

Nevertheless, she pushed the thought from her brain and headed over Grey. "We need to be on our way before full light... don't want to be seen roamin' the foothills in broad daylight," she said, loud enough for Alek to hear.

"Meh, she'll get over it. She always does after I feed her." Aleron brushed Farron's words away as he offered an easy smile. He walked over towards Asta now that she and her demon horse were up, waving to Farron as the woman left to get ready. "I have some jerky for you and other stuff if you're hungry." He coaxed the cranky girl as he held out the food for her. Asta snatched it from him with a scowl as she gnawed on the food.

Millicent shook her head, going to push herself off the ground only to fall back with a grunt. "Yeah... Maybe." She finally conceded, taking his hand as she pulled herself up with a wince. Her leg still hurt but she could put a little weight on it finally.

Her head felt so heavy, the sun making things worse. "I just need some food and water and I'll be ready to go..." She assured him, trying to keep herself from looking too disheveled.

Alek nodded and helped Millicent to her feet gently. He was glad to see she was able to at least put a bit of her weight on it. "Yes, well, I have some things in my pack you can have. Some dried fruit and meat." Making sure she was settled, he bent over and grabbed his pack, since she'd used it as a pillow. "What would you like?"

Millicent shrugged, "Either is fine, thanks." She told him honestly, nowhere near as picky with her food as the rest of the court. "I have food in my pack as well in case we need it later." She added, running her hands through her hair to try and tame the wild red strands. She hoped once she could get to Beyfeild it would mean a bath too. That was one thing she'd wished she'd done before they left the falls.

After much prodding and annoyed sighing, Alek got the group up and moving and on the road. He kept them close to the treeline and off the main road that led to Beyfield from the city. He couldn't be sure it wasn't being guarded and travelers were always falling prey to highwaymen, bandits, or worse. There had been murmurs among the Guard that slavers from the east were in these parts, but nothing had ever been confirmed and the rumors had been quelled by Markus insisting it was all mindless talk.

Alek drove them tirelessly, showing no signs of his own fatigue as they pressed onward. Because of Millicent, Alek took more breaks than he was really willing to, which slowed them even further. Day eventually dimmed into evening, which settled into another night spent around Pyr's warm glow.

By the next morning, Alek was starting to get a bit concerned about Millicent's condition. She didn't seem to be getting any better and if anything, seemed worse with each passing hour. Vowing to have Aleron look at her wound at their next campsite, Alek settled his nerves and kept them all moving. He was focused on Beyfield and on getting there as quickly as possible.

By the evening of the second travel day, they were a short trot outside of Beyfield's limits. The terrain didn't change much between Mirid and here; the forests had become slightly less dense and there were more rolling foothills, but the trees were still plentiful.

From the top of their campsite, which Alek had chosen the concealed side of a particularly grassy knoll for, they could see the sprawling little village of Beyfield. Farms with thatch-roofed cottages and wooden rail fences dotted the outer landscape with hard-packed dirt roads leading between each family's farm.

What made Beyfield unique was the way it's village center was designed. In the center of the village was a large patch of thick, green grass and dotted with trees and around it were tight knit buildings. Only the most exclusive and oldest shops were on the inner square. The buildings then sprawled outward in circles around the grassy village center with roads in between.

It was a picturesque little village, but it had grown significantly in the past decade or so, making it the second largest town behind Mirid. It was easy to get lost on the Rings and the town Guard, which was made mostly of volunteer men and women, had been beefed up to accomodate in the influx of people.

Nevertheless it was a neutral city and a fun one. The taverns were known for hiring traveling minstrel groups, acrobat troupes, and unique bands to keep the people interested and investing in their growing economy.

The sun was just beginning to set as they all settled in. It had been a joint decision NOT to approach the city at night. They would all stay together one more night and then be on their merry ways. Farron and Randon would likely move on to Vallonde, Asta and Aleron likely to stay with Alek and Millicent.

Farron stood at the top of the knoll, against Alek's wishes, and looked on at the city that was a short jaunt away from them. It was a cute little town, one she'd been to time and again for mat shopping. She liked it well enough... but the people here were all too...cheery all the time.

Alek pushed them all hard to Beyfield. It was something that Aleron didn't mind, but he could hear Asta complaining quite bitterly on how much of a "cad-faced moron" Alek was. He ignored it for the most part, keeping to himself as they traveled. Every now and then, he would watch Millicent, noticing that instead of her condition bettering, it was slowly getting worst. She may being hiding it will, but he wasn't dumb. Something was very wrong and he was going to confront her on it soon enough. If only he could get past her bulldog guard.

As they reached Beyfield, Aleron was glad to see that they were almost at their first destination. After camp had been made, all of them deciding it was best to arrive first thing in the morn rather than suspiciously at night, he walked up towards the top of the knoll where Farron was resting. He was going to recruit help on confronting Millicent. "Evening." He started off as he sat down next to the woman with a slight smile.

"Evening, Traveler," Farron replied politely as she leaned back on one hand with her long legs stretched out in front of her. Pyr's amulet, which was empty again as the magma Soul provided them with a fire, dangled from her free hand as she swung the chain around locked it around her fingers before releasing it and doing it again. Her light eyes were flitting around Beyfield, watching as fires started popping up as the sun waned on the horizon. "How was your ride? Does your bum hurt as much as mine does?"

--

Alek sighed as he fell onto the ground after untacking Nightshade and letting the horse out to graze with the others. He was absolutely exhausted. He hadn't slept much at all, barely a few hours, since they'd left Mirid and he didn't think he'd be sleeping again tonight. His distrust was greater than his fatigue.

He looked over at the princess, observing her quietly. She did not seem to be getting better... which meant that Aleron had done something wrong in the beginning. It had been days now since it the initial wound... she should be healing by now, especially considering the wound itself was a step graver than superficial. The arrowhead had pierced her flesh and buried into her muscle, but nothing more... it hadn't torn or ruined anything...

Aleron chuckled as he pulled a knee up and rested his arm over it comfortably as he looked down upon the no longer quaint town of Beyfield. It was one of the first places he had taken Asta to since it was such a positive, happy place. She needed that kind of good experience in her life to show her that life wasn't all the same everywhere. He was quite fond of the unique layout of the town.

"Probably not. I'm not really as sore as most of you since I do this for a living." He pointed out to her as he looked over at her with a smile. "Want to know something scarier? Asta isn't even in pain at all. Nothing. She's never gotten the same aches and pains as the rest of us mere mortals while riding."
