Alek sat beside Millicent, his face impassive as Aleron worked. He was a bit annoyed -- he had planned on doing the removal himself, but apparently wasn't qualified by Aleron's standards to do it.

He dropped his irritation though at her muffled scream, scowling angrily that this was already happening and they hadn't even gotten far enough away yet to be safe. Wishing he could do more, he spoke, thinking of nothing better to do.

"We can't stay here long.... we have to keep moving. There's a small patch of forest about six miles away. If we can make it there, we can regroup, wait until sundown and move under cover of darkness," he said, his voice still calm and collected. He was very good in these situations....at least, outwardly.

Aleron was now working quickly, Asta having hopped off of her horse to come be Aleron's aid as he mixed herbs together and put simple enchantments over them to help with the healing process. As he slapped some cold ones onto Millicent's leg, she would feel the pain to disappear all together, and watch miraculously as the blood began to come to a stop and the wound close slowly. It was happening just fast enough for the eye to notice. "Let me wrap this then and we can be on our way. Millicent, you should eat this for the pain and I can make more later for you to take with your next meal." He offered up as he quickly tied a clean bandage around the wound. It was obvious that he was used to working as a medic in the field, his actions fast and methodical, not a single misstep, mind completely on the job.

Millicent nodded, her breathing slowly returning to normal as the pain dissipated. She took what he gave her, making a slight face at the taste before washing it down with some water, thankful it was still cool. "Thank you..." She told him simply, blinking a bit as she focused on her breathing and wiped the blood from her swolled lip. She was beginning to get lightheaded, which happened when she kept the shallow breathing up for too long. If history stood it would pass soon.

She looked to Alek then with a nod, "Sounds like a plan to me..." She said simply, giving him a small smile that actually reached her eyes as she held her hand out to be helped up. Her leg was still ridiculously sore but it felt more like a really bad, deep bruise for the moment. As long as she kept most of her weight off of it she should be fine.

Alek didn't interrupt Aleron once though he did watch every move the man made. He wasn't a medic by any means but he'd been forced to patch up fellow guardsmen when they were idiots and didn't want to go see the medic in the castle.

"Hm." Alek snorted a bit at her proffered hand and stood again. He bent down and lifted her into his surprisingly strong arms, careful not to jostle her leg or press against it in any way. Without his armor, Alek was not a very broad man, but he was strong. Strong enough to whip around a greatsword with no trouble whatsoever... which meant holding Millicent was just another day in paradise.

Millicent looked confused as he didn't help her up...until he just simply lifted her off the ground like she was a feather. She let out a small squeak of surprise, feeling her cheeks burn horribly. Her hands landed on his shoulders for balance, feeling equal parts happy, confused and aggravated. "I think I could have stood..." She argued weekly, more flustered than anything else. That and the world was spinning slightly from the movement. Okay...so if he hadn't picked her up she probably would have fallen flat on her ass.

Aleron just stood back and began to pack up all of his supplies before putting them back into his saddlebag. He simply raised his eyebrow as he watched Alek and Millicent, but didn't bother to comment as he hopped back onto his horse, ready to get going to a place a little more safer than out here in the open.

Alek ignored her pitiful protests and got her back up on the horse. This time, though, he put her in front of him -- he wasn't leaving anything to chance from this point on. His arms wrapped around her to hold the reins and with a nod to Aleron, they were off.

He eventually led them to a place to stay for the evening but it was a brief stop. He only let them rest an hour or two, enough for the horses to calm down, before saddling back up and moving out under cover of night.

With only the moon and stars to guide him, Alek seemed to have no trouble taking them and keeping them in the right direction. He made them be silent though so he could listen... so he could discern the natural sounds of night against anything that might be unnatural.

And so, like this, Alek led them until the sun rose and only then were they allowed to stop and rest. But as soon as the sun was near the horizon again, they were moving.

It was the evening of the second night of travel when Alek found himself actually growing tired. He knew the way to Bayfield, having been there several times before, but it was still a long trek. Bayfield was a neutral city-state and couldn't be invaded by King Damon's forces.. provided they were allowed entrance in. He hoped Marek's promise of a royal Caravan sigil was in his pack somewhere.... he hadn't thought to make certain.

"We're bloody lost," Farron scowled as she pulled Grey to a stop. "I've seen that patch of trees at LEAST three times, Millson," she griped, Grey stamping his hoof impatiently.

They'd been lost for a while now, but neither of them seemed to want to admit it. Farron wasn't very good with directions and though she knew the direction of Beyfield.... didn't mean she knew how to get there.

Millicent stayed quiet most of the rest of the trip, suddenly extremely tired and every once and a while would get hit by a dizzy spell which caused her to grip the saddle horn a bit tighter. She had to take a few moments each time to blink the blurriness out of her eyes. Maybe the herbs Aleron had given her weren't reacting well. Or the wound took more out of her than she thought.

Either way she never opened her mouth to complain but as the night dragged on she leaned back into Alek a bit, "Alek we need to rest...the horses won't be able to go all night and neither will we." She told him, sounding less than fully in the moment herself. She knew Kisha was getting restless and all she herself wanted to do was curl up in a ball and sleep and pray this would go away...

"No....really? and how could you bloody tell?! Can barely see a length in front of me face..." Randon sighed, running a hand through his hair as he came to a stop beside her. He had forgotten how overgrown the canopy got this time of year and therefore provided very little help when traveling by night.

Aleron was quiet, seeming to keep up with the harsh pace easily. In fact, he didn't look haggard, tired, or exhausted at all. He looked just as alert yet calm as always. Asta, however, was falling asleep astride Camulus.

She lurched forward as she heard voices, her eyes blinking away sleep blearily. "I'm tired." She complained, agreeing with Millicent. "And if you push the horses much more, one of them will end up lame. Probably yours since he's carrying all that extra weight." She informed Alek.

Alek frowned as he felt Millicent lean back ... and even more so when she informed him she wanted to stop.

He looked over at Asta as well and let out a short sigh. At least Aleron wasn't complaining. He had to give the man credit, he seemed to be keeping up quite well.

"We aren't taking a grueling pace," Alek said matter-of-factly in Asta's direction. "Which while good for the horses is not good for our own welfare. We have to keep going... we can't stop until we reach Beyfield."

--

Farron scowled over at Randon and wished he was within reach to smack upside his head. "Don't get smarty now," she chastised before sighing. "Maybe we should just stop for the night.... I don't know, wait for daylight. All in all, we're getting ourselves deeper into issues."
