Alek tilted his head a bit when he felt her laying up against his shoulder and nodded. "It would be unwise and my father would never condone such an act. The forest is too vast and they don't have the manpower to do a controlled burn." He seemed completely sure of his answer which was always comforting. "Especially in the middle of summer... they would lose it to the heat almost as soon as they started." He looked back at Aleron and Asta. "We're going to have to make a run for it... which means we're going to have to break right through their ranks." He slowed Nightshade down a stop and turned him around to face Aleron and Asta. "You can't stop, can't slow down, no matter what. Being run over isn't going to kill them, especially not in all their armor."

Aleron came to a stop right beside Millicent and Alek, nodding his head as he listened to the guardsman's words His eyes sparked in surprise as he mentioned his father, thinking that his father must be the guard captain or something of similar rank. He'd have to put that tidbit away for later.

"We can do that." He agreed with Alek with another nod as he looked over at Asta who was just sitting there petting her horse. It was amazing how much different she was astride a horse, how she actually seemed to have balance and grace. Her and Camulus were a pair to behold so he had no reason to worry of them as long as Asta stayed glued to the large brute.

Millicent tensed a little at Alek's plan to barrel through but he sounded so confident. She nodded against his shoulder, not opting to speak for the moment. She just kept her grip tight and nodded. This had to work. They had to get through this. She couldn't afford to lose her nerves. That was for later. Later she could break down. Not now.

Once they were all on board, Alek retracted his hand from Millicent's arms and turned Nightshade around again. He began to quickly lead back the opposite way they'd just been going.

Before long, the sun was shining through the leaves, giving the forest a delightful green hue. It would have been enjoyable...if they hadn't heard voices. Men's voices... voices Alek could point out from this distance. That one was Lieutenant Hallman, this one was Guardsman Danielson.

He could tell they were in a line formation, covering as much distance as possible and blocking the way out. That wasn't going to work though.... he just hoped he didn't have to run down anyone he liked.

It was quiet for a moment....before Alek gave Nightshade a good boot. He wanted the horse not to shy away from the men as he approached them. Any second they would see the Guard breaking through the trees...

Aleron and Asta were quiet as they followed along behind Alek and Millicent quietly. During this time, Aleron had lost his crown of flowers and gained a new tension in his shoulders. Asta was... surprisingly calm. If there was one thing she was sure of, it was that Aleron could get them out of this. She had no fear on that.

Millicent braced, burying her head into Alek's shoulder. She heard the voices not far off, just waiting for it all to be over. She heard someone yell out they saw something. She let out a long breath, clenching her hands around her wrists to keep from trembling. It would only distract Alek. That wouldn't help anyone.

She knew Alek would protect her.

He always had...he came for her.

"Hold tight to me, princess," Alek mumbled quietly as he kicked Nightshade again, this time intentionally hard. The beast was going to hate him, but that was nothing new.

They took off at a solid gallop, the horse angrily reacting to the pressure that Alek's boots were putting into his sides.

The Guards appeared just then, lightly armored unlike last night, with weapons brandished. Long polearms, halberds, axes, and swords.... even some with bows and arrows.

The Lieutenant let out a cry for action when he saw the horses barrelling toward his ranks. The men fumbled around and yelled at each other, too bogged down from walking, heat, and surprise to really form any kind of brilliant offense.

Alek rode Nightshade right into the men, pushing the horse to the extreme limitations of it's patience as he barreled through, sending two men flying off to the side.

It was then that an archer stepped forward and raised his bow. The arrow that was nocked was small, nothing that could do any lasting damage... but the sharp arrowhead was doused with a thick, dripping white liquid.

The Grand Master took a deep breath and held it as his eyes tracked the horse and riders, his bow following just a bit ahead of them until he released the arrow.

It flew in a perfect arc, almost too perfect, and lodged itself superficially inside Millicent's exposed thigh. It was deep enough to cover the arrowhead entirely, masking the white liquid completely with blood and erasing any trace of it.

The Grand Master smiled to himself as the little Guard rode off toward the edge of the woods with the magick-toting princess gripping him for dear life. He tossed the bow off to the side and started casually making his way back to the city, though pausing for a moment as he heard more hooves coming their way.

Aleron had to put a calming hand on the neck of his stallion Aloysius, the horse feeling the different emotions in the air and reacting to it as he pawed at the ground. He straightened immediately, however, as Alek gave the signal and they were off. Digging his heals into the horse's sides, he leaned forwards as they made the mad dash through the armored men who were there to receive them.

Asta hunkered down onto Camulos, letting her horse do his thing and giving him no more direction than a mere tug on his mane. Despite the fact that she was riding him with no saddle, she had no issues with staying on top. With his unusually large size, it was easy for him to barrel through the men, especially given how light Asta was. She had no issues, so she was one of the first to see the wound on Millicent's leg and her eyes widened. That was not good. They needed to get that taken care of as soon as possible. She was hoping that the soldiers wouldn't dare follow them once they plowed through them.

Millicent just nodded, trying to ignore the chaos surrounding her. She let out a scream, gasping as she felt a sudden white hot burning spread through her thigh. She felt the warm blood dripping down her leg, her breaths becoming shaky and panicked.

Finally she willed herself to look, letting out a gasped scream as she saw arrow in her leg. "Bloody hell...." She grumbled, biting back a stream of curses. It wasn't that bad of a wound. That is what she had to remind herself of. She was exaggerating it. She let out a long, low breath, trying desperately to keep it together.

Alek literally jumped when he heard Millicent scream. "What is it," he demanded as he tried to turn and see what was hurting her. Had she been caught on a downswing? He'd aimed perfectly to barrel through the guards with the least amount of impact...

And that's when he saw the small, thin arrow sticking out of her soft flesh. "Gods be damned," he growled, eyes immediately jumping up to see the archer that had hit her. That was just it though... there wasn't a single bow in view. Who then had shot her? "Stay calm," he instructed her as he pushed the horse faster -- the edge of the forest was near and they couldn't stop... they just couldn't. Not for at least another ten or fifteen minutes... and even then, the Guard could catch up if they really wanted to.

Every gallop the horse made was likely a painful reminder of the arrow in Millicent's leg. Alek tried to minimize it by placing his hand on the outside of her thigh, pressing it against his hip to keep it as steady as possible. Her blood stained his shirt and dribbled over his hand as he held her leg, but he didn't seem to take any notice whatsoever.

The Grand Master watched as the second two horses ran past as well, carrying strange riders. A woman, barely over her womanhood and a man with an uncanny calm eminating from his expression. He drew mental pictures of them both and continued back into the forest. King Damon would very much enjoy the information he had.
