Phillip had barely finished his word before he found a glass of champagne poured over the hair he held with such pride. "I'm not some good to be bought and sold. Consider this a rousing no if you couldn't figure that out in your thick skull." She snapped storming off then and feeling more than slightly sick. She wove through the crowd, vaguely hearing something about dinner, when suddenly she heard her stepfather's voice boom through the now silent room.

She was nearing Alek, looking close to tear when all eyes turned on her. She was shaking as she turned, Damon's voice getting closer. "There's the birthday girl." He grinned, eyes flashing in triumph when he saw the shaky state she was in. "Now as you all know our Princess turns 23 this day. An age of maturity..." He continued but Millicent's ears were ringing. She felt like her body was overheating, it getting hard to breathe. "...Now help me in congratulating my daughter and Prince Phillip of Handor on their enga-"

"No." Before she could stop it the word came out and the room that was once clapping and cheering felt silent once more. She looked up to her mother but there was no sympathy to be found. She saw the anger flash through Damon's eyes, the joy then panic that went through Kida's. Millicent motioned gently for her to stay back.

"Excuse me?"

"I said no. There is no engagement. I'm not some item you can pawn off. You don't decide my fu-"

"That is ENOUGH!" Millicent involuntarily flinched at the king's voice. She didn't step back though. "I have had enough. The arrangements have been ma-"

"No." For the first time in her life Millicent showcased her temper. "I'm not some play thing. Out of all of the suitors you could have chosen you pick HIM?! Not because you think he's perfect for me but because he's a perfect pawn for you." She told him, her voice cold and icy. She saw his hand rase in a knee jerk reaction for her words. "I have had enough!" She snapped. Waiting for the blow that never came.

Instead a pulse went through the room, knocking the king flying back and Phillip back into the wall. Glasses shattered and a violent wind blew through the room. Despite deep breaths she couldn't get it to stop. All she saw was the horror and terror jn the faces surrounding her.

"Magic!"

"Witch!"

"Guards arrest her!" The queen screeched, grabbing hold of Kids who was trying desperately to get to her sister.

"Milli!!!!" Millicent felt her heart rip in half at her sister's voice. She looked to Alek briefly before she saw the guards closing in.

"Leave me ALONE!" She cried out, knocking the guards back and without another thought fled out of the ballroom. She felt the tears streaming down her face, her stomach curling and contorting as she hastily shed her heels and hiked up her gown. How could this happen?! Why... She paled as she heard footsteps behind her. She just had to get to the stables... Oh why weren't her feet faster?!

Farron shrugged as she felt her wrists freed. She rubbed them as she looked back at the house that lit up practically the whole block. "You too, traveler. They'll lock everyone in... there'll be witch hunts and incarcerations for the slightest misgiving of magick." That symbol... it was nagging at her. "Come on, we should make for the gate now. You need to get back to your sister and I don't have time to check on mine." She started away from the block, away from the horrific scene, pausing only to look back at him. "Thanks again, traveler. Soon I'm going to be up to my neck in debt."

Alek grimaced when he first heard the King's voice echoing through the ballroom. Seven hells, he wasn't going to get a chance to talk to her...

And then she was walking toward him, shaky, ill at ease. He pushed off the wall, wanting to meet her when it happened. The same pulse of sheer force that had cracked his head back against the tree only hours before.

What happened next was a blur. The guards closed in on the princess at the behest of the queen, her own mother, while the guests panicked and tried to get away from her, away from the ballroom. Somewhere in the midst of it, Alek caught his father's red cloak and his brother's blue one trying to stop the mania before it caused more trouble.

"Princess!" He called, but his voice was lost in the cacophony of mass panic. As she fled through the doors, he felt a hand grab him and pull him along. Reynolds, of all people, and the man was grinning as though this were the greatest gift he'd ever been getting.

"Come along, Camilleri! We have a witch to hunt! The Captain ordered the castle shut down, she'll never get far."

Alek didn't have a choice as his other brothers-in-arms rallied around him and they made their way through the castle in pursuit of the now heretic princess. His heretic princess.

Millicent heard the bells echoing through the castle - the hunt was on. She darted down a vacant hallway in hopes of losing some of the guards. It was one good thing of the king not caring about her was her ability to explore the castle. She slipped into an alcove, covering her mouth to stiffle her sobs as she waited a beat for them to pass.

How was she a prisoner in her own kingdom?!

She took a deep but shaky breath as she dove further down the hall to an old staircase no one bothered with any more. She felt the cold stone under her feet, dress bundled in her hand so she wouldn't trip. She got to the bottom, ear to the door with bated breath. She took a beat to catch her breath, ripping her gloves off as they gave her issues on the door handle. They didn't help her anyway...

She carefully slipped out into the grounds, watching as the groundskeepers panicked and ran around. She bit her lip, waiting for an opening before fleeing down the hill to the stables. She was momentarily surprised to find the stables empty but then realized they were a probably given the night off.

She opened the stall for her stallion, blinking as she found him all ready to go. He was packed with two saddlebags, her own bag and a set of boots resting against the door. She couldn't overthink it. She slipped her boots on, the bag over her and hopped up onto Nightshade. "Come on boy...make me proud." She murmured, gripping tight, taking a breath, and finally spurring him on.

She barely saw the guards as the slammed into the stables, screaming and ordering her to stop. Millicent, rocketed past them, Nightshade's hooves thundering across the ground. She just had to get to the woods....then she could break down.

It was Marek that Alek first ran into, organizing the guards around the front gate. He was good in these situations, which always surprised Alek, but made him respect his brother a little more than usual.

"Second Captain!" One of the guards beside Alek called out.

Marek turned, his eyes landing on his brother first. "Ah, good. More of you. You three, to the western wall. You three to the eastern. Camilleri, with me."

Alek ignored the looks of defiance that were thrown at him as he stepped forward beside Marek. Marek was a little less than obvious about his 'brotherly favoritism' than Markus was.

Marek sent the guards he was instructing away and turned to Alek. "Guardsman Tanza just informed me there's been some sort of....murder in the Artisan's quarter. An entire family. The killer apparently left more than enough calling cards." Marek ran his hand through his short hair and looked over at Alek. "Father says now's as good as ever, by the way. He said you'd understand, but I imagine from the look on your face, you don't." He smirked a bit, but it was fleeting as the guards and staff ran around like chickens without heads. "Here." He reached down and picked up a leather satchel, pushing it into his brother's arms. "Everything you should need for a while. Father's going to use the caravan thing as a cover, but.... it won't hold for long. The King will likely throw us both in the stocks, but.." Marek shrugged. "The southern gate is unguarded, by the way. Little tidbit of info. You need to be seen leaving with a group, but...if you should get lost or distracted, well, then I can't help it that you're a terrible Guardsman." He clapped Alek on the shoulder, smiling briefly before striding foreward, yelling more instructions as the main gate was closed and locked.

Alek shouldered the satchel and fell into a group of guards that were armed and ready to go. They paid him no mind as they made their way to the western gate, all murmuring about the night's events....

Alek would catch a blur of red, green and black as Millicent thundered through the southern gates, having tried the main and eastern gates to no avail. She also gained a lot of attention. She could hear them rallying behind her and her stomach churned. She had to stay collected until the woods.

Soon enough she burst through the woods, barely feeling the branches scrape and cut her porcelain skin. She just had to make it far enough in... She glanced down as she heard a growl beside her. Kisha. "Come on, guys..." She murmured, guiding Nightshade deeper and deeper into the dark forest. Whereas most wouldn't dare enter, Millicent felt a kind of kinship with the shadows.

Her mind raced over and over, trying to think of somewhere she'd be safe. The waterfall! She cut left, hoping she remembered the way. Alek and her had stumbled upon it before the paths were cut. They were so late to get back but...that was her fault. She hadn't wanted to leave.

Millicent huffed a sigh of relief as she heard the running water. She hopped down from her horse, leading them the rest of the way on foot as the foliage was too thick. She collapsed once she reached the waters edge. She finally let the sobs errupt from her chest, trying desperately to rip the ridiculously ornate gown off of her to no avail. All she gained were cuts on her hands from the metal accents. What was she doing? How could she ever survive this on her own....?

The pendulum! She dug it out in haste, but paused in saying his name outloud just yet. The hope had faded, though she gripped the pendant tight, since she realized she didn't even know this Aleron. She saw the journal that had tumbled out in her haste and thought of Alek then and she felt sick. She didn't know if he'd come to help her. She wanted to believe more than anything that she wasn't alone but... Millicent took a deep, shaky breath. She'd give him till first dawn. If there was no sign of him she'd move on.

Aleron waved away her thanks and debts. "Don't worry about it. Truly." He told her as he followed her towards the gates. Like he said earlier, he wasn't too particularly worried about Asta at the moment. She was safely ensconced in the forest being watched over by the forest itself. She was perfectly safe. "I know this sounds odd, but it's been bugging me all night. That sign on the door, have you ever seen it before?" He asked her, hoping she would jar his memory.

Farron nodded as she led Aleron through the back streets of the city, steadily closing in on city limits. "Yes! I thought I was crazy.... but I have seen that before. I can't quite put my finger on it though...where I saw it, I mean. I'm thinkin' it was before we moved here, back in my old hometown. What about you?"

Alek kept with the brigade that been dispatched to the woods and the surrounding areas. He knew that Millicent would come here and that it would be their first place to look, but he also knew that there was very little chance if she made it to the forest, the Guard would find her. There were so many places to hide and the forest was vast, almost unending for miles and miles. Most of them didn't have the directional abilities to get themselves out if they went too far in.

Minutes flew by, turning steadily into an hour since she had been seen fleeing. The air was getting thick and thunder rolled through the heavens above them, informing them a summer storm was on it's way.

"How can we even search in the dark," one Guard complained as he tripped over a high root.

"We can't," another agreed.

Their leader was a pudgy, grumpy guard who was responsible for the kitchens, not chasing after rogue princesses. "Shut yer pieholes," he grumbled as they forged onward. "She's in here somewhere, the witch, and think'a the payraises you'll get when we drag her in by her be-damned, lyin' hair!" He guffawed a few times and led them onward.

Alek quickly fell behind, trying to ascertain which place Millicent would run to in desperation. Somewhere secluded... somewhere she felt safe. He initially thought of the spot they'd gone to earlier where she'd first revealed her magick to him, but it was too open. It had been along one of paths.

No, she would go somewhere else...somewhere deeper than that. Somewhere the forest would protect her.

His brain was on overdrive until a thick blob of water fell right on his head and ran down his face The first drops of rain were making it through the thick canopy far above them. Water...

And with a few well-guided steps, Alek was going into the heart of the woods, trying to reimagine the path to the waterfall. This forest had many creeks and streams running through it, which made finding water relatively easy... but he needed the right water. He remembered that afternoon, the afternoon when they had found the waterfall by total accident. Millicent had led them deep into the woods, against Alek's advice. It had been cool, toward the beginning of autumn, so the water of the falls was chilled...perfect drinking temperature. Millicent had been wearing a pale yellow dress that day and it had been ripped on the thick underbrush that hid the falls from plain view. Alek remembered briars and late-blooming flowers that always seemed to be pointed toward the falls themselves, as if wanting to drink in their beauty for themselves.

On foot, it was slow, made only slower by the now steady rain that was coming through the canopy, soaking him and making his armor just that much heavier. The underbrush was thickening and he had seen some plants he'd recognized from the last time.

Even though the forest was abuzz with rain and summer creatures singing, he could hear the falls not far off.

Millicent blinked as she felt the first few drops of water on her, not having the luxury of shading. "Oh bloody hell..." She grumbled, picking herself up as Kisha nudged her. Of course it had to rain. Why not make this night even more ridiculously unbearable?

She collected herself up, ignoring the dirt on her gown. She tucked her tiara into her satchel along with the journal and pendulum before following Kisha back towards the falls.

Nightshade was skiddish as they approached the roaring waters. Millicent groaned, feeling the fabric of her dress cling to her body. "Come on, boy...come on
.." The already heavy dress now taking its toll on her already fatigued body. It took some prodding but she finally got him into the cave behind the falls. She sunk down against the cold wall, halfheartedly undoing her hair and letting the wet curls cascade down her back.

Kisha curled up beside her, big head in her lap. Millicent doubted she would be sleeping and she was all out of tears. All out of anger. All out of sadness. She just felt...numb.
