Millicent thought it over a moment, "accidentally" stepping on his foot with her heel. "You know, sire, that you shouldn't take the words of the maids as the truth. He came back a bit scuffed after a fall but other than that nothing of real interest." She said simply, grateful the powder on her face was hiding the faint blush. She knew the rumors around the castle concerning her and Alek but she'd always ignored them. What was the point of addressing them either way?

Leila just gave him a look that would turn most men to ice. She reached up and yanked him down by his ear once more. "You may not be a youngin anymore but doesn't mean I won't whoop the stubbornness right out of you. Now." She let go once more, as if daring him to try again. "You listen here. Anything that's got you this riled up has to have something to do with m'lady. If that is the case you better damn well open your mouth, lad..." She warned him, her voice soft but with the protectiveness of a mother bear. She'd basically raised that girl as her own.

"Ahh..." Aleron's eyes lit up in understanding as she explained to him the being within the stone. It made a lot more sense now. "Well I am sorry great Spirit if I have offended you in someway, I usually do my best not to upset the spirits." He apologized to the rock, actually serious. They were the one things that he always tried to stay on the good side on. Spirits were very powerful and held a lot of sway over life.

Phillip barely winced as Millicent stepped on his foot. He might be feeling quite toasty at the moment, but he knew that the bitch did it on purpose. She was a renowned dancer, she simply did not step on people's feet anymore. "Ah, then I shall simply have to take your word for it then. I have to say that it soothes my jealous heart." He teased her even if he could fucking care less who she slept with.

Millicent resisted the urge to roll her eyes once again. Jealousy her ass. "Jealousy? Really now? Interesting considering i have seen the numerous advances you have made towards the maidens of the household." She replied with a simple shrug and a slight quirk of her eyebrow to let him know she didn't believe a damn word he said. Maybe if he hadn't been such an ass in his visits she wouldn't have been so cold.

"Maybe I was hoping you were nearby and trying to get your attention?" Phillip replied smoothly, however, his footwork was not as smooth. "Your attention is a hard one to grab, your highness." He would only have to endure this torturous dance a couple of more minutes before the song was over and they could get to the best part of the night.

"Being a decent human being would've sufficed, m'lord. Chasing after others simply leads the other to presume you are interested in nothing more than stature. That, Phillip, you've made quite clear in your visits." Millicent told him directly, losing the false politeness for a moment. It was something that obviously annoyed her to no end. Maybe, maybe there had been a handful of suitors actually interested in her but Phillip certainly wasn't among those few. He didn't look at her or speak to her as if she were human. Just a prize no one else had managed to score.

Alek cringed again and scowled. He was past his twenty-first nameday and was being treated like an obnoxious little child! It was infuriating and he was already on edge. In fact, he was tipping over the edge with each second that passed. He could see, ever so briefly, couples whirl past the heads in the ballroom and somewhere amongst them was Millicent and that murderous cretin.

He yanked his head away from Leila and massaged his ear again, which was now burning from her pinching. "Mistress, might I suggest that pinching someone's ear is not the way to get them to tell you what's on their mind? Gods, it's like you have talons," he mumbled before straightening up. His chocolate eyes darted to the ballroom again as he caught a peripheral glance at a couple whirling past. "...Our Lady is in danger," he finally said, though his voice was low, lower than music and the chatter of the maids and other guards now helping to set the table. "Very real, very close danger, as am I. The Captain is reassigning me to caravan patrol to get me out of the Castle, but if I cannot leave here knowing she is not safe from the ones who are meant to care for her." He paused a tick, wondering if this woman was as loyal as she seemed to the Princess. He could only hope. He met her gaze full on. "I need to get our Lady out of the castle. Tonight."

Farron stopped their stalk to look back at Aleron, surprised registered in her expression. Pyr almost instantly calmed to a dull glow, nearly invisible beneath her shirt. "You're one of them, aren't you? I don't even know the proper name, but you've got magick, don't you?"

Leila listened as he finally spoke, falling silent for a moment as she thought over his words. "They'll notice if you're gone...not me. Tell the Capitan plans are in motion. I'd always feared something like this since Damon weaseled his way to the crown." She admitted, pausing another moment or so before looking to Alek. "I know you care for her, guardsman, whether you wish to admit it or not. I do hope you do what is right and not what is convenient for you when the time comes." She told him simply, but there was a threat under her voice. "Now go. They'll be making the announcement soon. You need to let the Capitan know and get her out." She shooed him simply, turning to go but paused once more to look back to the young guard.

"Alek...keep our girl safe." And with that she was off. She needed to pack and get her horse ready. There would be a search party out for the princess before anyone could blink. Leila only hoped they were doing the right thing.

Alek wasn't entirely sure what to make of the conversation. Do what was right? Isn't that what he was doing now? So long as the Princess got out of this city, away from the liars and schemers, it would be right.

He took a breath and walked into the ballroom, eyes scanning for Markus. He found the red cloak first and made his way over. Markus was chatting with some delegates, whom were laughing at presumably a story.

"Captain," Alek said, keeping the edge out of his voice. "Pardon me, sir."

Markus looked over at him and read the look on his son's face. "If you'll be so kind, please excuse me a moment," he said to the delegates who assumed it was something uninteresting and went back to their laughing. Markus stepped away with Alek. "What is it?"

"Mistress Leila...." Alek started as Markus shook his head with a slight smile.

"Not surprising. I presume she's on board with the plan as well?"

"Did you know about the announcement tonight?" Alek stared at his father harshly.

"...Of course I did. I'm the Captain of the Guard, naturally I'm informed about these things."

"And Marek?"

"Yes."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Last time I checked, Guardsman, your cloak is still grey. I'm sorry, it was too dangerous to risk you doing something irrational. Things will play out, son, I promise you." Markus overlooked Alek, seeing the irritation building within his calm expression. So much like his mother... "Now go back to your post. We can't draw too much attention and you're dangerously close to doing so. Just....follow along, son. Do nothing you wouldn't normally do." Markus clapped him on the shoulder and turned to return to the dignitaries.
