"And we will. When you allow one of us to help you. Pick." Millicent said simply, not blind to the way he looked at her for taking the pendant. She wasn't as stupid as everyone thought she was. Would it have been better to anger Aleron?! If he thought her stupid and childish so be it. He didn't know what she was going through. He didn't give her a chance. Never even tried. Now she was trying to help him. Why couldn't he let her try and set things just a smidge right. |

"......Fine." He looked at Aleron, dark eyes sharply measuring the man's worth. "Nothing unnatural - I don't want to be magically healed or anything of the sort. Look at it, assess it and we'll go from there. I know half a dozen plants that grow wild in this forest that I can use as a bind until I get it looked at by a medic," he explained, knowing there was no use in continuing to argue with her. She was being stubborn because she thought she was making it right. But what she didn't seem to understand was that what she had just done justified every fear Alek had of magic. It twisted people into being someone they weren't. She wasn't making her mistake right, she was pushing him further away. |

Millicent felt....conflicted. Not relieved like she thought she would. "And how will you explain this when we get back, hmm?" She asked him simply, but she wasn't looking at him anymore. It wasn't mean or snarky. She just wanted to know how they were going to explain his gash and the blood if they were to return this way. If he was to let her help to begin with this wouldn't be an issue. She still felt sick to her stomach, evident by the fact she still looked ridiculously pale. It wasn't that she thought this was the end all mend. She knew she was just pissing him off. She was desperate though. Desperate to do...something. He probably wouldn't have been even speaking to her. She just wanted to get home with as little fallout as it was. |

Alek turned around to allow Aleron to inspect the gash, which really was all it was in the first place. Everyone was overreacting. "I'm a guard. I don't think you quite understand the number of incidents we have. The guard medic barely even asks questions anymore -- mostly it comes down to 'how bad does it hurt' and 'do you want bedrest for a day to recoup'." |

Aleron sat back and let the two talk/squabble it out until Alek indicated for him to inspect the wound. Walking over, he gave it a cursory glance, his fingers barely touching his skin before pulling back. "It's just a minor cut, a glancing blow to the head. With the right herbs, it'll be gone within a day or so." He informed them both. At this time, he heard a very familiar voice calling his name as Asta came tumbling out of the bushes. "Aleron? There you! Do you have any idea what a fright you gave me!?" She demanded as she stumbled into view, her arms and face scraped up with a rather nice shiner adorning her face. "Sorry. What happened?" He asked as she scowled. "A tree hit me." "... A tree hit you?" "Don't say that like I'm crazy. Who are you're friends?" She looked over to Alek and Millicent then. |

"And that will be enough for your father when you show up to the ball tonight bandaged up?" Millicent asked in the same tone, running her fingers through Kisha's fur and still looking away. For some reason she felt almost...afraid to. She knew he was working it all through in his head. She heard the new voice and decided she was done meeting new people. She stayed silent and focused on Kisha. |

"I'll be in full regalia," He informed her, nodding briefly at Aleron. Of course that's what it was, because that's exactly what it was. "My cloak hides the majority of my neck. I am not the conc--" He reached for his sword as he heard the sounds of someone else approaching. He relaxed when he saw it was just another stranger, apparently one who knew this Aleron. Delightful. "We aren't friends," Alek said simply as he tore part of his shirt hem off and bunched it against his neck. "And we're also leaving." He stepped away from Aleron, walking a few steps on the path that would take them back to the palace. "Princess," he called. |

"Really. You're going to call for me? Now we're equals?" Millicent asked him with a quirked eyebrow. She sighed, pressing a kiss into Kisha's fur before she stood, pendant and book in her hand as she put her cloak over her arm. She turned to Aleron, mouthing 'thank you' before following Alek finally. She looked to the forest floor instead of him, trying to reclaim some of her dignity before they got back to the castle. Her trousers were filthy, shirt partially off her shoulder and hair coming out of her braids. She was a mess. There was no way around that... |

"...Well. You guys seem like fun." Asta quipped dryly as Aleron sighed, rolling his eyes heavenward at the tone in his cousin's voice. Spirits knew he loved her. "Safe travels." He spoke parting words to them, smiling and nodding at Millicent's mouthed thank you. Turning to Asta once the two disappeared, he shook his head. "What am I going to do with you?" He asked as he walked over and pressed a kiss on the top of her head much like you would a child's. The scratches and black eyes slowly began to dissolve off of her face as his magick healed her. "Love me and name your children after me?" She asked him with a grin as he shook his head again. "Come on, we have to head into town so I can pick up our supplies from the blacksmith. I think you might like this one." He said as she frowned. "Are you trying to set me up?" She asked him as he chuckled. "No, merely being honest. Come along, cousin." |

Alek allowed them to walk for a few minutes, leaving Aleron and his klutzy friend far enough not to hear before abruptly stopping. His voice was quiet. " Do you think it's possible for you to stop holding this against me, as if I'm not allowed to be human? I was honest with you, I told you my past, why...that..." he gestured to her hands, "bothers me and my response was 'oh, poor Alek...stop being such a coward, grow up, things happen'." He wasn't angry, not particularly, he was more irritated than anything. His voice softened a notch as he continued. "Whether you did it out of anger, desperation, or simply lack of control, you attacked me with one of the only things in this world that I can't protect you from." He stepped in front of her, forcing himself into her vision. Then, he did something she could never dream he would. He reached out and took her chin softly, tilting it up so she was forced to look him in the eyes. "I took an oath to protect you, to lay down my life to ensure your safety. I know to you that doesn't mean much; all Guardsmen have to take the oath, but to me, it means everything. But tell me, Millicent, help me understand how in the living world I'm supposed to protect you from yourself?" -- Farron let out a deep and rubbed away the sheen of sweat from her forehead with her arm. Handsome Traveler's care package was already finished, waiting to be picked up. She'd gone to an extra length or two -- she'd bought a brand new leather satchel to hold everything and included a few items she'd found very useful to have along when one was traveling. "Nonnon!" Jareth was her forge-buddy for the morning, along with her nieces, Bethany and Silena. They were a couple years ahead of Jareth, but they all played rather nicely. "Look!" She quit the hammering of the steel to look over. Jareth and the girls were sitting in a circle, tying together flower crowns, flower necklaces, flower bracelets. Jareth held up a flower crown and Farron smiled at him as she walked over and bent down. "That's very lovely, little brother." "For you!" He reached out and struggled to plop it on her head. She laughed and nodded. "For me. I'm a flower princess. Now, why don't you all go play seek and find? I nominate Bethany to seek first." All three children squealed. Silena helped Jareth to his feet and dragged him away as Bethany started counting. Farron smiled and stood, leaving the flower crown where Jareth had put it as she returned to her forge. This warhammer wasn't going to mend itself. Edited by mallyapple19, Jun 20 2014, 02:36 AM.
