Millicent ignored Leila as she was scolded over...and over for being tardy. Especially for going alone with Alek. "People will talk..." "Oh let them. What difference does it make..." She mumbled, looking scornfully at the gown in the mirror as Leila laced up the back. Heels on, make-up, hair in intricate curls, tiara on her head...she suddenly felt the overwhelming urge to rip it all off and stomp that Prince Phillip could fall off a bloody cliff for all she cared. She couldn't keep her mind from wandering, wondering if she'd messed up by giving Alek the books. One was a novel full of adventure, about a pirate that saved a princess from being forced into marriage. The other was a silly joke book which she'd managed to write "Hope this gets a smile at least... -M" within. "Princess..." "I want to take a walk tomorrow." She interrupted, very unlike herself and causing Leila to jump. "M'lady! Tone!" She sighed, finishing up by tying the strap around her ward's neck. "Milli...there are so many people here to see you. You can't just go running off." Millicent sighed and turned to face Leila, stepping down carefully. "Please. Just in the wee morning. I need to clear my head before this dreadful ball." "M'lady it is your birthday. It should be a joyous occasion..." "Please. Please just tell the Captain to have Alek ready by sunrise..." She said simply, trying to contain herself before she would head downstairs. Despite his attitude towards her he was the only one she felt comfortable with on her own. "I don't think---" "Leila I am practically begging. Please." Millicent took a deep breath as Leila set her hands on her cheeks, trying not to cry. "Oh M'lady...I know ye birthday is always a hard time of year." Leila paused, rubbing the princesses shoulders gently. "I will talk to the captain and see what I can do. Alek may be in trouble fo--" "No! That's not fair. He didn't do anything wrong!" She paused, closing her mouth with a nod as Leila gave her a stern look. "I will do my best...now go..." She gently shoved her out the door, making sure she actually headed towards the banquet hall before going to track down the captain. She knew Markus was hard on his sons, and this running around between the two had to stop, but if it was the one thing she asked for on her birthday? She had no choice but to try. "Says the lass that nearly got run over by a cart and took down a poor vendor's stall." Randon chuckled, looking back to Aleron then. "Me pleasure. Now if ye excuse me, I have a blacksmith to see about some horseshoes she promised." He mused, giving Asta a playful bow. "Pleasure is mine, lass, and I do hope ye consider stayin' longer than for just a passin' through." He mused with a wink and a small grin before nodding to Alek, "Have fun. Oh and I'd recommend the Gilted Fiddle. Straight up that way." He pointed to the street running perpendicular. "Can't miss it. Use Cauis Black as a reference. They'll set you up well." He mused, nodding once more before heading off before Farron really did have his head. |

((Teh picture isn't showing! D: )) Alek had returned to the guard's quarters, relieved to see that the dinner bell had driven just about everyone off. The night watch was still asleep, their various snores and sleep noises echoing in the main hall. Because he was a permanent and didn't have a family home to go to, he had been given one of the permanent rooms, which he shared with only three other men instead of an entire floor of men. He had removed all his armor, rested his sword on the weapons rack beside his bed, and was still reeling over all that had happened. Removed from castle duty, given permanent overnights...and reassigned to the front gate. All for the small price of finding out his princess had magic. In just a pair of trousers and a loose shirt, Alek scrubbed his hands through his hair, messing it up further, and laid down on his bed. He glanced at the package Millicent had pressed into his hands, obviously knowing they were books. Only one of his roommates was in the room at the moment and he was deep asleep... so Alek pulled the books over and unwrapped them. The first one he flipped through, seeing that it was an adventure novel, something he found especially entertaining. Usually he filled his time with books to teach him things, but every so often, it came upon him to read something another person had imagined. He set it down and picked up the second, flipping over the front page. His eyes were drawn to the script on the back of the cover. He couldn't contain the slight tilt of his lips upward. He lingered on the page for an extra moment or two before turning to the next, settling into his bed to read it. ((RIIIIDDLES! xD Did you want to narrate the meeting between Markus and Leila? I wasn't sure and didn't want to force the decision upon you without asking. haha)) |

"Thanks once again, and I'll remember that." Aleron waved goodbye to the man before turning to Asta with a raised eyebrow as she squirmed. "What?!" She demanded as he shrugged. "Nothing..." he trailed off as he tried not to grin as she simply glared at him. "Where's this new inn at?" She asked as he remembered the Blacksmith's directions. "Funny story, I was just directed to the same inn that your friend Randon informed us about by the blacksmith I just visited. And the same name was used. Wonder if they know each other." He mused as he hopped down off his horse and walked over to sling his arm around her shoulders. "Really? Why do I care?" She shot back to him as Aleron grinned down at her. "Spirits, you're really testy. What's up with you?" He asked her as she scowled at him. "Are you really teasing me right now?" "Maybe." "Don't." "I love you too." "I hate you." |

((Mally I think it might be a good idea...since it is such a sudden change of what Markus wanted I think it needs some backing. Thoughts? lol)) |

((NOPE! No thoughts! That was what I assumed, but you know what they say about assumiiiiingggg... lol)) Markus had returned to his office which was barely more than a spare sitting room put away for him in the palace wing nearest to the guard's quarters. The 2nd Captain stood in front of his desk, wearing civilian clothes. Whatever genes Markus had passed to his boys were strong -- the familial resemblence was striking between the 2nd Captain and his father. "I get the overnights, but why are you wasting him on gate duty? That is quite literally the most boring thing to do in these ranks." "It's called punishment, Marek, and I would think you know it well," Markus answered, reviewing the scroll that he had laid out detailing the guard duty for the celebration tomorrow. "So he's bedding the princess..." Marek shrugged carelessly, fiddling with a gold-plated letter opener, twirling it between his fingers. "By the gods, boy," Markus snapped, looking up at his older son. Marek's 30th nameday had just passed and still he acted younger than Alek. "Your tongue would do you more good shriveled in a jar." Marek grinned and waved his hand. "The reality of the situation, Father, is what you refuse to see. How many times have you put him on overnights for this kind of behavior?" "Clearly not enough." "Bah. He's still in his youth..." "Which I understand. Send him wenching into the city, find him a pretty farmer's daughter. Anyone save a member of the royal family," Markus commented idly, picking up his quill to change some things around. |

Leila, found her way downstairs to the captains office, hoping idly Millicent had found her way to dinner after all. She knew this time of year stirred up remaining grief over her fathers death, may the pour soul rest in peace, but she was acting even more peculiar than usual as of late. She'd always been a skiddish little thing but it had gotten worse. She heard voices, waiting for a pause before knocking on the door. "Captain? It is Leila...May I come in?" She asked simply, hands behind her back and hoping this didn't blow up in her face. |

Markus silenced Marek with a raised hand and waved him out of the way, revealing the visitor in his doorway. He stood respectfully for her. "Yes, of course, m'lady. I was only going over plans with my second." He glanced at his older son who seemed to be in no rush to leave. Marek offered a warm smile to Leila and flopped down in a chair against the wall, still playing with the letter opener. Markus restrained a sigh upon obvious signs that Marek wasn't done talking yet. "What can I do for you, Lady Leila?" |

Leila smiled and gave a slight curtsy before entering the office to see Marek sitting off to the side. She hesitated, not wanting to air the princess's desires in front of more people than necessary but the second didn't seem like he would move from his place. "I'm actually here on behalf of Princess Millicent. She's requested an guard escort so she can go on a sunrise walk in the woods. You can imagine where this is going..." She trailed off, giving a light shrug. It wasn't the first time they'd have this discussion but no matter what Millicent always asked for Alek, even waiting to leave the grounds until he was back on duty after a punishment of one kind or another. Leila figured it wouldn't be the last time either... |

Markus sighed, remaining standing. He pinched the bridge of nose, massaging a bit before reopening his eyes to meeting Leila's gaze. "Lady Leila, I've been remiss for allowing this to pursue further than propriety would allow. I know you of all understand that we simply cannot allow this to continue... especially with the Prince here. I can offer any other guard in the ranks. I'll take the Princess myself if need be. Guardsman Camilleri can't. My apologies, Lady." |
