Damien glanced back to the girls as he switched to a fresh piece of gum. Did he really trust Aeryn to do this? He had no choice. He ground his teeth together, trying to get ahold of himself again. He didn't know what exactly was bugging him.....well the whole situation was a pain in the ass but there was something else irking the crap out of him and for once, he couldn't compartmentalize.... ```````````` Keira smiled, putting her locket away before looking back to him, seeing the motion but not seeing the object. She figured she'd ask him later....or find out herself. She liked the first option a lot better. She needed him to trust her....wanted him to. She smiled, looking to the bag then him, "You all set, hun?" she asked him, instinctively checking the inside of her tall boots while she had time. One held a blade, the other a small pistol but both were expertly concealed. She couldn't risk using her powers out in the open, which is why Damien had been so set on training her how to fight. Keira stood back up then with a smile, hands on her hips as she waited for his answer. |

Adam's hand shot up and grabbed her wrist out of reaction after she'd smacked him. His grip was tight, but he loosened it almost immediately. He threw her hand back to her. "I'm sure." He had been half hoping her head would slam against the window. No such luck. ....Yet. He drove for a little while longer before stopping and pulling into a deserted parking lot behind a warehouse. He turned the engine off, but left the car on, turning up the radio to full volume. It was oddly quiet today... he wondered if the Fed was reading those files right about now. As he got out of the car, he actually allowed a faint smirk to trace his lips. Those files were total and complete bullshit; every detail Adam had manually put into their records..from their birth places to their family's names and occupations. There was no way to trace his activity either; it looked completely legit and if the Fed had the two cents to look it up, he'd find that his info matched what was in the system. Adam shut the car door and leaned back against it, arms folded. He let out a breath. Slow fucking day. They should've taken the loitering call just to have something to fucking do. He flexed his fingers a few times, scratching at his covered palm. Syd shook her head with an abrupt sigh. "You guys just don't get it, do you? I don't need to join you... this isn't some kind of game that we go around recruiting people to our cause. My father was a US Marshal. My dad IS a Fed. I'm safer with him than I'd ever be with you... unless I royally screwed up...which oddly, I haven't yet." She ran her hand through her brown hair. "...Listen... I can't not tell what I know. Because it's not my family I'm worried about. Even Trevor knows better than to fuck with my family...it's me. He'll turn ME in. You guys can't protect me from that." |

"Yea. Yea I'm done. Sorry." Ben apologized. Shouldering his bag, he took Kiera's hand and transported them back to her apartment. Looking around, he ran his free hand over his head. "This is going to be fun. You know, when I used to watch those spy movies and what not, and said I wondered what it would be like on the run? I wasn't serious." Ysabel didn't seem disturbed when he grabbed her wrist. She just took her hand back and did her best to keep a smile from her face. God that felt good. When he pulled them into a deserted parking lot, she looked around curiously. She didn't say anything as she unbuckled her seatbelt and got comfortable. She watched him get out, and she sat there for a little. Finally, the little devil in her couldn't take it anymore, and she got out. Leaning across the car, she looked at him. "So... since we're alone. Wanna tell me about them?" she asked vaguely. "So. We'll keep him from turning you in. As simple as that. Why the fuck do you people make everything sound so damned complicated?" Aeryn asked with a grumble. "No wonder why I don't like people." she seemed to mutter the last part to herself. "We can and will protect you from that. I can do a lot more than people think I can." |

Adam looked over at her as the radio crackled; the car that had taken the loitering call was just reporting in. Damn. "Tell you about what," Adam said, looking back forward. Sydney sighed again and finally lowered her hand. "Short of killing him, you can't really stop him. He's got some cop doing all his digging for him... I don't remember the cop's name, but he's pretty high up. He has access to everything." She glanced down the alley at Damien, then looked back to Aeryn. She held her arms across her chest as she met the girl's gaze. Her hazel eyes showed a brief moment of weakness, but it was gone a second later. "I can't ask you to become my personal bodyguard. I wouldn't want that....and your boy down there is more likely to tear my throat out than protect me. It's cool. I get it. We all got people and things we gotta take care of." |

Keira looked around as they went back to the apartment, laughing a little at his comment. "Yeah...its not as glamourous as they make it seem..." she mused, taking his hand and leading him down the hall to her room, nodding a head to the dresser which had 3 empty drawers to it. "Unpack what you want. Leave some in your duffle bag but unpack what you want." She told him, putting the blade up on another dresser and moving her pistol to the back waistband of her pants. She prefered gunpowder and lead anyway... `````` Trevor watched as the files burned in the fireplace, an ironic smirk on his face. Ahhh....it felt good to hold all of the cards. Oh, he already knew the files were frauds...pervs and stalkers were his best informants. He knew where the ice-queen Aeryln Grayson lived and worked, and it wasn't at a school. Ben was the only one that elluded him, but for general information. He'd found articles raving about the Nevada baseball star.....but other than that he seemed normal. There had to be more to him to catch Keira's eye. More than anything, his joy came from the fact he no longer owed Adam protection. People were already on their way to pick up the little journalist. He chuckled to himself, tossing the last of his whiskey into the fire. Oh it felt good to be bad sometimes.... `````````` "His name is Adam." Damien called back, rather unenthusiastic. "Ironically, though, he's apparently someone to trust." He never looked back at the girls until he noted a cop car heading their way. "Don't mean to rain on the parade, ladies, but we've got company. Oh, and killing him is what I plan to do." he added, as simply as if he was remembering to add milk to the grocery list. |

"You know..." Ysabel said as she raised her eyebrow at him. "Your uhh... 'special' ability?" she airquoted. "And don't lie to me. I don't care. I'm just curious as to what it is. I'm sure it helps you solve cases and whatnot." Ben nodded as he followed her into her room, and looked around curiously. "Thanks..." he said as he placed his duffle bag down by the dresser. He didn't bother unpacking anything. The only thing he placed out was the thing in his pocket. Pulling it out, Kiera found out that it was a baseball. A signed one. Looking over, his eyebrows raised at her weapons. "Expecting trouble?" he asked her, looking slightly amused. Jesus Christ, he better not piss her off. Aeryn looked over with an annoyed glance as Damien spoke up, wanting to throttle him sometimes. She wished he was mute. Looking back over at Sydney she sighed. "Look. I'm going to be honest. I don't really care about you. I'm a selfish person. But there is somebody I care about, and I don't want her getting hurt because of the asshole that you're helping. Name any price and I'll do it. Damien's opinion doesn't matter." |

Keira looked over at the mirror, making sure her gun was concealed before looking over to him as she shrugged. "Better to be safe...gunpowder and lead make more of an impact than fists." she mused, laying it next to the blade before walking over to him, tilting her head at the baseball. "Who signed it?" she asked him curiously. She was a football girl herself but Damien was a huge Rangers fan...She sat down on her bed, inviting him to sit beside her. ``````` Damien let out a snort of distain, shaking his head before focusing. The cops would see nothing but an empty alleyway as they passed. Once they were in the clear, he let go of the mirage, a massive headache plaguing him. He never understood how Trevor could handle that shit. It had to give him some kind of high...or maybe its why he was so deranged. It finally hit him what was bugging him; unreasonable guilt about what had yet to happen. What could he say? He wanted the guy ten feet underground...but he didn't have a heart of complete stone. As much as he denied it, and would never admit it to anyone, he was family. Bloodlines were a bitch. |

Ben smiled as he walked over and sat next to her, handing the ball over to her. It was rather old and worn looking. "I got it when I was a kid. My grandpa took me to an Arizona Diamondbacks game." he gave her a sheepish grin. "I ended up catching this when one of the players hit it into the stand. And after the game, my grandpa introduced me to the man who hit it. Luis Gonzalez. I don't know if you know who he is, but he's a pretty damned good player." he admitted. "I told him about my love for baseball and we talked about it for a while. It's like.. my lucky ball or something. I normally touch it before a game so it can pass some of its luck on to me. Stupid I know." he chuckled. |

Keira gently turned the ball over in her hands, smiling as she listened to the story. "No, it isn't stupid..." she assured him as she handed it back to him. "Like I said, it's good to have something to give you a comfort. I'm guessing you were close to him? Your grandfather, I mean..." She looked to him with a reassuring smile an a gentle hand on his knee, her other hand playing with the delicate chain around her neck. |

"Uh yea. He was my dad's dad. One hell of a man. Tough as a box of nails. Died a month before my high school graduation. Cancer. The ball is one of the only things i have to remember him by. So it's... nice." Ben shrugged, feeling slightly awkward for bringing something up so depressing. "I guess now we wait on your friends huh?" he asked as he leaned back on her bed, weight propped up by his hands. Looking over at Kiera, he offered her a smile. |
