Ysabel felt her eyebrow raising as a smirk spread across her lips. Standing up, she sauntered over and tossed the papers down onto his desk. "Read 'em and weep, big boy. Looks like we're partners. Damn." she grinned before heading back over to her desk. All of her stuff would be transferred tomorrow. She literally just got into town yesterday when they called her in. Most of her stuff was still up in boxes. The only thing she had pulled out was her bathroom stuff, her bed sheets, and her uniform and equipment. She had a lot of unpacking to do.

Plopping down in her chair, she looked back over at him, waiting expectantly for his words. Poor baby didn't wanna be stuck with her. She hoped he was ready to put on his big boy pants and deal with it.

Ben didn't get mad. He didn't throw a temper tantrum, or whine or complain. "Listen... I really understand. I'm not trying to sound ungrateful. I am thankful for all the help you're lending me. But you have to understand, this is all new to me. I don't... " he waved his hands around as he tried to find the right words. "I'm not used to this. To not talking with my parents on a regular basis. To have to go into hiding. And everything else. I'm going to fuck up. A lot." he warned her. "And I probably won't act so great either. I'm just asking that you try and cut me a little slack. So instead of completely killing my phone, just take it next time or something like that?" It was amazing how level-headed and reasonable a boy his age was taking this.

Aeryn was just coming back from her now old job. She had told the owner with great regret and remourse that she had to quit because of family issues and would immediately be moving to Montana. That way if anybody looked for her, they'd investigate there first.

Adam watched her walk over and drop the papers on his desk. Her mocking attitude was already grating on his nerves...and it was barely 9:10 in the morning. He unfolded her papers and read over them, about to say something when a brief knock came at their open door.

Adam looked up to find Captain Rodriguez standing there. The captain was a man in his forties, balding, but had the shadow of once being fairly good looking. Even at his age he was fit and trim in his LAPD uniform. "Good morning, Jensine, glad to see you here. I needed to te--" He looked over and saw Ysabel at her desk. "Well. Seems my job has been done for me. Officer Ramirez, wonderful to see you. Welcome to the LAPD; we're glad to have someone with your commendations on our force. Seems you've already met your partner." His voice was genial, but there was little on his face to show any sort of smile. "Jensine, I know you're going to come to my office later and give me a very well rehearsed speech on why this is a bad idea, but I'm going to say this now. Ramirez is your new partner, whether you agree or not. I expect big things from her and I know she'll be able to excel with you as a mentor. That being said, you will take time out of your busy day to answer any questions she may have, show her our accommodations here at the precinct, give her a tour of our jurisdiction as well as explain our hierarchy and who to cuddle up to to get in good here. Take good care of this one, Jensine." He nodded once to Adam something extra in his voice at the last sentence. He nodded to Ysabel as well and exited the room.

Adam ground his teeth as the captain left. He could go fuck himself if Rodriguez thought he was going to babysit this bitch. He stood up, not sparing her a glance as he went to change into his uniform. He threw her papers onto James--her--desk as he passed, his strong jaw still set angrily.

Aeryn was walking by herself when she heard a scuffle just ahead of her. Looking forward, she saw a girl being dragged into an alleyway by three heavily tattooed man. The girl got out nothing more than a squeal before one of the men's hands was over her mouth.

Ysabel contemplated saying something else when somebody walked in. "Captain Rodriguez! Thank you sir for having me on the team. It's a damned honour I've worked on my whole life to achieve." she flashed the older man a bright smile, looking positively radiant at the moment. It was a bit... startling sometimes, how she seemed to glow, and ooze sensuality.

When the Captain proceeded to lecture her new partner, it took all she could to keep from grinning like an idiot. She had to have him like her at least a little bit if they were going to be partners. Making him want to dump her on her ass on the street, or hang her or something was not in the plan. So she kept her mouth shut as Jensine stormed passed, and waited for him to exit the office before laughing. Taking her papers, she straightened them and began to organize the desk the way she liked it.

Aeryn looked up just in time to see a girl being dragged into an alleyway by three men. Jesus Christ, now what?! At first, she was just going to let it slide. She did not need anymore trouble in her life. But then she felt her conscious kick in and cursed under her breath. If this girl ended up dead because she didn't help, it would make her feel guilty. And she hated feeling guilty. Looking up towards the sky, she took a deep breath before following.

Walking into the alley, she crossed her arms over her chest as she frowned at the men. "Don't you pricks have better things to do? Jesus this is getting old!" she exclaimed, managing to keep a firm hold on her temper.

Adam came back about fifteen minutes later, looking pristine and authoritative in his uniform. He didn't wear it quite the way it was supposed to be worn; his slacks weren't on his natural waist, they were more around his hips and his shirt, while starched, pressed and perfect, was just the right amount of loose instead of hugging tight, as though he were trying to look like SuperCop. Not to mention the sleeves. The rest of the force had short sleeves...Adam did not.

He walked over to his desk, picked up his phone and looked over to Ysabel. His face was blank, his voice matching, but those cold eyes of his showed his distaste for this entire situation. "Come on. I'll show you around." It didn't sound all that inviting....

--

The 'leader' man had the girl pressed up against the building. She had light brown hair that was pulled into a messy bun and hazel eyes that looked only slightly panicked at her predicament.

One of the other men turned to Aeryn with a smile that was glinting with gold teeth. "Hey there, beautiful," he said, blocking her view of what was going on. "If you're looking for a prick and something to do, I can help you with that. Otherwise, you need to turn around and go back the way you came, chica."

Ysabel looked up briefly as Adam walked back in some several minutes later wearing his uniform. She noticed the differences in it right away, her mind categorizing all of the violations that could get him trouble for not being in the right code of dress. However, it seemed that he could get away with it, so she didn't say anything. She finished her phone call, and hung up. He would notice that there was a serious difference in the organizaion of the the desk. While James had been quite sloppy, Ysabel's stuff looked organized and effecient. The only personal touch there seemed to be was a tiny... gecko near the computer? No photos or anything. Just the green glass lizard.

"Tour sounds good to me." she shrugged as she stood up. She adjusted her own uniform as she gave him a look. She didn't care if he didn't like her, he was stuck with her. So to be honest, his asshole mood didn't bother her in the least. "Lead on, oh partner."

Aeryn rolled her eyes as she felt her temper twitch. "Oh shove it where the sun don't shine, fucktard. Let the girl go now, and there won't be any problems. I'm not in the mood for assholes like you today." she told him as she glared at him through narrow, grey eyes. She looked ridiculous. A slip of a young woman like her facing the three men on her own.

Adam noted the gecko; his painful attention to detail was one thing that had gotten him so far so fast. He shoved his cell phone into his pocket and left the office without saying anything else.

He led her around the building, which was surprisingly big. He showed her the dispatch room, the break room, a work-out room complete with machines, treadmills and free weights, the front desk (complete with bitchy blonde reception apparently named Jenny), the Captain's office, the evidence room and the cells. The building itself covered four floors; three above ground and one below. He wasn't very chatty during the tour...more or less, he explained what it was and that was it. Despite all the looks Ysabel was getting, no one really said hello or introduced themselves. She had to discern that was because of the 6'5 monster leading her around.

Once the tour was over, he paused at the back door which led to the garages and the cars. "We share a car. Don't fuck it up." He handed her a spare key from a key rack and opened the door, holding it for her to step out into the garage.

"And we're not in the mood for stupid bitches who think they can play superwoman and just come in here. We got business here, chica. Just walk away."

Oddly enough, Aeryn felt a bizarre sense of calm prodding at her conscience mind. Her twitching temper was almost instantly cooled down, but it felt like there was a press on it...as though it were simply being subdued. She wasn't actually calming down on her own.

The man holding the girl looked back at Aeryn. "Beat it, bitch." He looked back to the tiny whelp of a girl he was holding. "You owe me money, chica. Lots of it. You got it?"

The girl managed to shake her head, flicking her eyes to Aeryn.

Ysabel didn't speak a word throughout the entire tour, although she did nod her head a couple of times as she committed places to memory. She also didn't seem to notice the looks that she recieved either. It was like nobody else existed, yet if you were to tell her what one of them looked like, she could give you a very detailed and thorough description.

At the end, when he handed her the keys, she raised an eyebrow as she took the spare and walked out to the garage where the car was waiting. "Don't worry, big guy. She's in safe hands." she told him as she waited for him, shifting her weight from foot to foot as she stared at him curiously. Finally her curiosity got the better of her. Using her power, she sent tendrils out to study him before shifting them about. If he was extremely susceptible to her power, she couldn't figure out if it was a good or bad thing. Good because she could get anything she wanted from him, like her last partner. Yet bad because it would make him less of a challenge. It could go both ways.

Searching through his body, she brought out what she was looking for, and let them mix with hers as she walked by him, swaying her hips more so than usual. "So, what's your schedule usually like around here?" she asked as she gave him a sultry smile. If it worked, he would find her very attractive, and would want to answer her questions just to please her. He would take extra notice into the way tendrils of her hair curved around her face, the swell of her hips, the way she smiled.

Aeryn frowned, about to say something when she felt her anger just... melt. She paused as she realized that she still wanted to be angry but wasn't. There was only one reason for that. Her eyes shot straight towards the girl as she watched the scene play out. Oh hell no! That only managed to piss her off more that someone was playing with her emotions. That bitch best have answers.

Storming up, she placed her hand on the back of the main guys shirt, and just yanked him down onto the ground. It wasn't the fall that hurt him, but the feeling of what feel like thousands of icy needles piercing his skin. Walking over, she shoved another guy into the opposite wall, showing more strength then one would think possible from a girl her size. When her hands were on him, he would have felt like he just went swimming in the artic, and his lips had turned blue. Turning, she faced the last guy with a glare. "Get lost. NOW." she growled, her eyes flashing dangerously.

Keira listened to him with a nod, pausing in what she was doing. She turned back to him, eyes conflicted, "and understand I'm new to this role. I'm not usually the one showing the newbies the ropes but Aeryn has Damien in a fit of worry and Trevor back in town...."she shook her head with a weak smile, "im going to fuck up a lot too and I didn't kill your phone." With that she plucked the android out of the water. After a few seconds of being in her hot hands the droid turned on without an issue. It was a trick she'd learned in utter boredom.

"But you're right...." she slipped the phone into her pocket after turning it back off. "Look it's not ideal, I know, Im just so programmed to do this that I don't think twice anymore and I can say for one of the very few times in my life I'm scares, Ben. Hell I'm scared shitless..." the fact she'd even admit to feeling scared was a huge deal and the way she fidgetted with her clothes showed that.

-------

Damien was on his way to where Aeryn was after cooling off for a bit. He paused though, why the hell was she going down an alley.....oh. Damien soon came on the alleyway, keeping out of sight of the remaining thug but held enough of a presence to let Aeryn know. He saw the girl in the alley, digging a little he was pissed at what he found but stayed calm when he reached out to her. We aren't going to hurt you. Unlike Tevor we want to help you, and your sister. Please, Sydney, let's get you out of here and them deal with the other crap later. By the way, my name is Damien.

He showed himself just enough so she could see him. It was a good thing he'd gotten to her first. That was the last thing they needed. Besides, he'd worked hard to keep the apartment a safe zone to let it all go to hell.

Ben watched her warily, not quite sure what to expect in answer of what he just told her. So when she kept herself calm and explained herself. Hell, she even brought his phone back to life. That trick he liked. How many times had he killed his phone from accidentally dropping it into water or something?

Blinking, he left that thought behind and tried to keep up with what she said. When she admitted that she was scared, he noticed how much she fidgeted. Maybe she didn't say so a lot. If so, he knew this was a big step for her and that she really was trying to be helpful. "Well... got room for one more in that car, cuz I'm pretty scared too." he admitted to her. "I'm not sure what's going to happen. It's like walking around in an Indiana Jones dungeon place with my eyes closed. Fun adjective no?" he smiled wrily. "I just... I don't know. I guess I came over here because I was mad and I don't want you to be mad at me since you're probably the only person who likes me right now that I'm allowed to talk to. And..." he sighed as he floundered about helplessly. "This situation sucks." he ended lamely.

((Riddles!! You know who Aeryn and Damien kind of sort of remind me of? lol))

((Ummm.....oh now I can't remember their names!! -.-' our bipolar pair from "dragon?"))

Keira looked back to him as he spoke up, nodding as he spoke. She took his hands in hers with a small wry smile. "Whatever happens next we're in this together at least, right? And damien does like you....Aeryn just has him in knots right now." she added with a small shrug. "I'm not mad at you...I'm mad at the situation. I'm frustrated that this has gotten to the point that it has...." she sighed, shaking her head a little at the situation. She wanted to sit here and tell him everything was going to be fine but she didn't want to lie to him. Instead she put on a more genuine smile, "Now, do you want a nutella and Bannana crepe or a fruit crepe?" she asked him, her own stomach beginning to grumble.

((Rafe and Tory?!))
