Kendra nodded, kissing him lightly between his brows before finally pulling back to give him a small smile. She looked up as she heard the ramp lock into place. She finally settled back in her seat, driving carefully up and out of the ranch. She drove carefully through the winding dirt road that would lead them onto the main highway. She'd never admit it but she was nervous. She hasn't actually performed in years...

-

Jeremy made a face at her before speaking again, "Please? I'd much rather you be there while I make a fool of myself. That a better argument?" He asked, giving her an adorably exaggerated puppy dog pout.

-

Mira laughed, nudging him with her foot, "Alright...things are beginning to settle a bit back into a normal rhythm." She admitted with an idle shrug, taking a swing of her beer before continuing. "Elliot seems to be adjusting alright. His sister..." She blew out a breath and shook her head. She didn't know what to make of the new girl.

-

Keira giggled lightly, resting her head on his shoulder and loving the feeling of normalcy this had. "I feel a lot better than I did the past few days, that's for damn sure. Just a bit stiff and sore." She told him simply as she munched on her dinner.

Ren gave her a small smile in response as he settled back into his seat with a quiet sigh. When he first received his vision, he never quite thought it would lead him to all of this. He just thought it meant that things would get dangerous in the world and to protect Ben. Not protect his heart from the danger sitting next to him and that the danger would involve his ownself.

-

Caelynne made a face back over at him as he pouted in her direction. That just plain wasn't fair. "Don't pout." She scolded him. "Pouting won't make you get your way." She informed him as she sighed. "I don't know.... there will be a lot of people there." She admitted as she looked at her hands.

-

"Ah that's right, we got some new people. I met the girl briefly I think. Really quiet, grumpy one. Right? Think she'll be a troublemaker?" He asked curiously as he ate some of his mac n cheese bites, eyes darting to the screen briefly to make sure everything was still running smoothly.

-

"Perfect. Pretty soon you'll be as good as new and I don't have to worry about going grey like Damien." Ben joked as he dropped a kiss to the top of her head.

The ride to the club was mostly silent, Kendra focusing on quelshing her nerves. She kept one hand on his knee, though; unconsciously calming herself with his presence. She pulled into the back lot. It was still relatively empty since it was early in the night. There were mic checks, lighting...a lot to do in a relatively short amount of time.

She looked over as she turned the car off and parked, leaning over and stealing a kiss because she could before smiling as she finally got out. She adjusted her clothes a bit, waiting for him by the trunk of the car.

-

Jeremy chuckled lightly. "Hey it had worked this far!" He teased her, nodding at her concern. "We can always sit off to the side...and most people will head in after the contest. Then it will just be the normal group for the most part utilizing the bonfire." He told her, knowing it would be rough for her but he really did want her to be there.

-

Mira nodded, "yeah, she's the kind of recruit that would be in the barracks until we could get a better handle on her personality. She will be...interesting. I know Hillary wants an eye kept on her. Eliot is a sweet boy. Bit damaged but sweet. Kinda melded right in with Violet so I'm not worried on that front." She admitted with a light shrug as she continued to eat happily.

-

Keira giggled and rolled her eyes at him, "You don't have enough hair to go gray..." She teased him with a shrug as she munched happily on her food. Real food was such a nice change!

Ren spent most of the drive staring out of the window, lost in his thoughts. However, he kept one hand over Kendra's to help calm her and let her know that he was here. He could easily read her mood and nervousness from her aura. As they made it to the club, he kissed her back with a small smile before getting out and joining her. "Ready?" He asked her as he studied her curiously.

-

Cay stuck her tongue out at him in response before sighing once more. "We'll see." She finally responded. "I can't make any promises but I'll try."

-

"And they're friends with the slightly unstable red head that came in with the large group right?" Damien asked with a shake of his head. "Who knew there were so many of us fucked up people out there." He mused simply.

-

Ben grinned over at her as she giggled before eating some more. "Well what if I told you I wanted to grow out my hair? Beautiful mane and everything!" He teased, laughing at his own ridiculous words. He'd been shaving his head since Sophomore year of High School. He doubt it was going to change anytime soon.

Kendra nodded with a small smile, "Yeah just...its one thing to do karaoke night. Its another to get back up there after going cold for years." She admitted finally, fidgeting a little with the various rings on her fingers.

------

Jeremy nodded, hoping that he'd be able to coax her to come by tomorrow night. "I'll take it!" He nodded with a goofy grin, taking a swing of his beer with a content sigh. "So I'm leaning towards green hornet tonight. Thoughts?" He added, changing the topic to get the conversation easier.

------

Mira nodded, "Yeah it's proving to be an interesting year..." She mused with a chuckle, "there are a lot more of us than anyone thought. And so many different kinds of us." She shrugged, knowing from her powers flaring how interesting it all was.

-------

Keira laughed at the image of him with long, flowing hair. "You taking fashion and hair advice from Ren now?" She asked him with a smirk, shaking her head a little. His hair was already so short and she knew he kept saying he needed to shave it again soon.

"Hey, I'm sure you're going to do just fine." Ren assured her, reaching over and taking her hands in his. "You're amazing at this Kendra." As nervous as this all made him and as much as he didn't quite like certain aspects, he knew how much she enjoyed it and wanted to do this. It wasn't his place to bring her down or tell her what to do so he would support her and lift her up instead.

-

Caelynne smiled over at Jeremy as she shrugged. "Sounds good to me. I haven't seen it before. Super Heroes were never really my thing." She admitted quietly.

-

"Way more than I ever would have guessed." Damien agreed. "I just can't believe something like this was able to have been kept quiet for so long. Especially with the numbers we're finding."

-

Ben just grinned broadly down at her as he shrugged. "Maybe? Don't you think I could pull it off? Ren doesn't have to be the only one with beautiful flowing locks." He teased.

Kendra gave him a small smile as he took her hands, her nerves calmed a little with his touch. She nodded at his words, stealing a quick kiss before finally leading him towards the club, her hand still in his happily. They walked in to find people hanging around, someone up on stage setting up the drums and sound system on the main stage.

"Its about damn time you showed! Now we have to deal with Sandra and her ego but by all means you can tell her she's booted from the mainstag---"

Kendra cut off the skinny young man that had begun berating her, "Carol picked me for mainstage. Barbie doll over there thinks she actually has a shot in hell?" She asked skeptically and like that the nerves were gone. She was annoyed and pissed to think the little toothpick on stage flirting with the drummer on stage. Plus, if Ren thought she was scantily clad?! "Start talking Shawn and don't you roll your eyes at me you queen. Oh, NOW you're offended. Bite me. What the hell do I have to do to get the Arianna Grande wannabe off the stage?"

"Outshine her. Prove you belong here." A familiar icy voice spoke up. Kendra smirked as she saw Carol emerge from the shadows. Her curls were tamed, her body excentuated in an impeccably tailored black suit.

"Oh and how are you planning on having me do this?"

"This is ridiculou-"

"Did I ask you? You got us into this mess." She cut him off, sending him off to deal with an issue one of the dancer's was having. She looked back to Kendra then as she handed her a small, over the ear mic. "They're doing a song next. Its your wheelhouse. Kill it." She instructed quickly before heading off to bark orders to staff who unfortunately were relaxing in her light of sight.

Kendra sighed with a light laugh, turning to Ren "So much for as little drama as possible..." She mused as she slipped the ear piece over her ear.

-

Jeremy chuckled, "Its kind of an...anti hero story." He mused with a shrug, munching on his dinner. "Its rather hysterical to be honest. I think you'll enjoy it. Maybe I'll make chocolate popcorn again..." He added with a small grin. He found himself wanting to wrap his arm around her or something. It was weird...well maybe not weird but still...

-

"A lot of us ended up in the nut house, hidden away, or raised in an environment where they knew how to function in the real world. I think we were all kind of afraid to look out for other people like us." Mira mused with a shrug, leaning over and kissing his cheek. "I'm glad, though, that we all did come together eventually." She teased him lightly.

-----

Ben just grinned broadly down at her as he shrugged. "Maybe? Don't you think I could pull it off? Ren doesn't have to be the only one with beautiful flowing locks." He teased.
Keira scrunched her nose, "Nope. Sorry to crush your dreams of becoming Fabio but... Nope. No long hair for you. Just like I think you'd have a heart attack if I chopped my hair off again." She teased him, having toyed with the idea once or twice.

Ren smiled over at Kendra, kissing her back before following her inside. What he was expecting..... well it was nothing like what really happened. He blinked, tensing immediately as the man began to lay into Kendra. His fingers itched for one of his knives but he staed his hand and sternly reminded himself to keep his head and temper. He had to be smart about this. Even if he wanted to smack the man around. Kendra was dangerous to his calm disposition and ability to think rationally. He looked over at her when she walked over at him once everything was cleared up. "Is it always like this?" He asked her, the tension still noticeable in his shoulders.

-

"Then maybe I'll like it. We'll see." Caelynne smiled over at Jeremy, relaxing a little as she watched him eat and relax. She wished she knew what his secret was to helping relax her and calm her down, making her feel safe. "And can you please make the chocolate popcorn?" She asked with an adorable smile.

-

Damien snorted at the end of her speech as he raised an eyebrow. "Yes because we're all coming together over rainbows and butterflies and singing Kumbaya." He remarked dryly.

-

"Please don't chop off all your hair." Ben begged as he pouted in her direction. "I promise no Fabio hairstyles in the future if you keep your hair." He swore to her with a nod of his head to show his seriousness.

Kendra laughed softly, “No, not usually. What I’m guessing happened is that Shawn moved one of the back-up singers to the front when the original girl dropped. Without telling Carol, of course. So now it’s his choice vs hers. While most people here wouldn’t bat an eye if Carol made a last-minute change, these people have been practicing together for a while. I was only brought in to do some choreography originally.” She said simply with a small shrug, watching as the little blonde Barbie doll prepped to sing whatever she was going to wreck. She had nothing against back-up singers, but she knew this twig from rehearsals. It wouldn't have surprised her if she’d given the original main singer food poisoning on purpose.

She leaned back against the wall, thumbs hooked into the front of her jeans as she waited. Finally, she heard a male voice call from somewhere by the bar. She figured it was probably Andy, the stage manager. “Alright let’s try this once more. Sandra I want you to put some real emotion behind it, not just sing the words. We’re doing a concert, not karaoke.”

The girl on stage made a face before looking over at the guy who’d be singing with her. He looked more than tired. Apparently they’d done this particular number numerous times. As soon as the music started, Kendra recognized the song immediately and a small smirk fell over her lips as she figured out where to come in.

The guy’s voice was deep, just having enough of a rasp to pull the rock ballad off perfectly. “I wanted you to know, that I love the way you laugh. I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away…I keep your photograph, and I know it serves me well. I wanna hold you high and steal your pain…” He looked almost wary as the chorus came up and Barbie joined in. Her voice was too high by about half an octave, causing their voices to clash in what should’ve been a smooth transition.

Kendra nodded to Carl subtly, causing the other girl to snap her fingers. Suddenly Kendra’s much more mature, controlled voice filled in on the next verse. “The worst is over now and we can breathe again. I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away…There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight. I wanna hold you high and steal your pain…” By the end she’d pushed off the wall, walking slowly over to the stage. The guy looked confused for half a second at the new voice but a smirk of recognition took over as he joined her seamlessly on the chorus.

“'Cause I'm broken, when I'm open…And I don't feel like I am strong enough. 'Cause I'm broken, when I'm lonesome….And I don't feel right when you're gone away…” Her voice melded with his in a hauntingly beautiful way, causing nearly everyone mulling around to stop and look at the new pair as Kendra made her way up onto the stage. The only one who wasn’t? Sandra had, by this point, stormed over to the DJ to demand to know why her mic wasn’t working.

By the end of the song, everyone was clapping, Carol walking up with a nod and a knowing smirk. She knew she could do this. Sandra, however, was steaming in a corner as Carol introduced Kendra as the new headliner for the evening. Kendra herself grinned a bit at something her new singing partner said, rolling her eyes before waving Ren over to them.

“Ren, this is Marc. Marc, this is my boyfriend Ren. He’s also my bodyguard for the evening.” Kendra mused as soon as Ren was close enough. She wasn’t big on labels, and she wasn’t sure WHAT they were, but it was the easiest way to introduce him to the group.

Marc chuckled, setting the guitar down so he could shake Ren’s hand. “Nice te meet ya, mate.” He grinned, a surprisingly thick accent to his voice that hadn’t shown while singing. “Not many could handle a firecracker like this one hea.” Kendra rolled her eyes but smiled, half watching as Carol put Sandra in her place. It sucked for her but they wanted this to go well, and Kendra’s voice suited the more mature sounds they were going after much better. That, and she had quite a bit more experience than the blonde diva.

-

Jeremy chuckled, “Now, how can I say no to an adorable smile like that, shorty. That’s just not playing fair." He teased her with a nudge before focusing back on his food for the moment.

-

Mira laughed, "Well duh..." She grinned, nudging him with her foot as she popped food into her mouth. "Oh, speaking of, You going to be social tomorrow night and come enjoy the bonfire?" She asked him, tilting her head a bit.

-

Keira couldn't help but crack up laughing as he pouted, "Awwe....No blue pixie for me? Fiiine...." She grinned, kissing his cheek playfully. She loved how normal this all felt. Playing around, acting silly. It was a nice break from reality.

((I love this song!!!!!! <3 ))

Ren listened to her explanation with a nod, looking over at the blonde girl singing with a frown. There was just something... he didn't quite like about her. Maybe it was the fact that she looked like she should be on the cover of one of Jake's old magazines, or maybe it was her voice. Or even quite possibly the garish yellow green of her aura. Either way, he didn't like her. And when she began to sing, he felt like twitching. He looked back over at Kendra as she smoothly cut herself in and seamlessly cut the girl out and took her place as lead singer and showed off what she could do. As she sung, he couldn't help but smile, finding her voice way more to his liking. She was incredible, there was no denying that. Like everyone else at the end of the song, he clapped loudly, his eyes solely on his girl. Even though they did dart over to the singer Kendra had preformed with.

When he was waved over, he pushed off from where he was leaning against the wall and joined them. He nodded his head in respect towards the other man as he reached over and took his hand in a firm handshake. He didn't seem to mind Kendra's title for him at all since he couldn't rightly say what they were. It sounded okay to him though. He smiled slightly at the man's joke as he looked over at Kendra. "I don't know about handling, but she's definitely interesting." He agreed. "It's nice to meet you Marc. Have you guys played together before? You seem familiar with each other?" He asked curiously as he looked between them. He wondered how long Marc had been in the States because that was definitely not an American accent.

-

Caelynne giggled as she took a bite of her chicken. "You don't play fair all the time! So it's totally fair for me to do that." She pointed out to him with a nod before giggling again and relaxing fully finally.

-

Damien rolled his eyes at her as she teased him before nudging her back. "Somebody has to be a realist around here." He pointed out to her before snorting. "You want me to attend a social function? Seriously?" He asked her with a quirked eyebrow, the ring in his eyebrow glinting from the light from the desktop screen.

-

"No. No blue pixie for you." Ben agreed, grinning at her as she kissed his cheek. He was enjoying this moment here with her away from the real world for a brief moment. Where he could actually relax and she could too. They definitely needed this he felt. "The only way you could get one is if I could get a matching one." He informed her as he thought about it, kissing the tip of her nose adorably.
