"Congratu-fucking-lations. You learned something today." Adam growled a little as he turned around to go back inside to buy yet another drink. Luckily the Snickers was saved and he tucked it into his pocket. Christ that woman drove him insane. There was no way he was going to be able to deal with this. He could take the hit on not getting his apartment deposit back. First thing tomorrow morning, he was going in to the Captain for a transfer. He didn't fucking care if they transferred him to Shitville, USA. It'd be better than here.....

Ben just continued to hold her, not seeming to notice her look as he watched her. When she pulled her shirt off and failed to wipe her face clean, he gently took the shirt from her and did it himself. "Do you feel better?" he asked her quietly as he kissed her now clean cheek before moving to the other.

"Trust me. I know." Aeryn told him, smiling as he kissed the back of her hand. "You know... I think I've done the most comforting today than I've ever done in my life. This is an interesting turn about. Don't you think?" she mused, trying to lighten the situation. "I mean, me? Comfort people?" she snickered at the thought.

Ysabel raised her eyebrow as she watched him, really tempted to laugh. Wow... she was really good at pissing him off! As she watched his ass when he stormed away, she shook her head. Maybe she should tone it down a bit... after all, she didn't want her challenge to run away before she had a chance to work at it. She pouted slightly, but it disappeared soon after. Sighing, she followed him into the store, getting into line behind him.

"Sorry about the drink, Jensine." she actually sounded apologetic as she waited for her turn in line.

The Captain would have to grant it....Adam had the best record on the entire fucking force. He could find someone else to babysit the bitch.

He heard her behind him and he tried to settle his anger, which was something he was pretty good at. So when he spoke, his voice wasn't so annoyed anymore; it was just cold, as usual. "I'm sure you are," he said, waiting for the guy in front of him to pay his gas and get his lottery tickets. Sure, bud. Keep trying.

Damien laughed a bit as he looked over to her, "Yes. I would agree this is quite the interesting turn of events." He mused, pulling her towards him by the hand and kissing her cheek briefly. "And compared to your "pep talk" earlier, I'd say you're improving." He teased her quietly, starting to sound a little more like himself.

Keira rested her hands in her lap as he took over, not able to meet his gaze at first. Out of the two of them wasn't she supposed to be the stronger one? At his question sbe shrugged, forcing herself to look at him. "I--i don't know....I feel kind of numb I guess..." she told him, knowing it probably wasn't the answer he was looking for but it was the truth.

Above the cashier, the tv flicked to a news bulletin about a dangerous assailant who had escaped from prison early Wednesday morning by the name of Daniel Shea. Any who knew Damien could see the striking resemblance.

As the news report went to give a number for tips to be called in on, a man a few people behind Ysabel shook his head. "I bet you anything he's one of those fucking genetic freaks. They're all fucked up in the head." A couple other people nodded in agreement, showcasing the general consensus on the subject.

Ysabel frowned, mocking him childishly behind his head. "No. Actually, I really am sorry. I know I'm a massive pain in the ass." she told him as she shifted from foot to foot. "But I'm not trying to make your entire life miserable. Only the work hours." she said.

When the news bulletin came on, she hardly paid attention to it. It was the people she heard behind her that grabbed her attention. Back home... she didn't remember this kind of hate for people who were genetically different. The strong feelings people had for them here took her by surprise. They were all just like everyone else, why should they be treated any differently? Not that she would ever voice these opinions. She did prefer living after all.

Aeryn smirked slightly, moving so she was now sitting in his lap so he couldn't go anywhere. "I'll have you know that it was the best speech ever. It worked, did it not?" she asked him as she turned in his lap to face him, arms looping around his neck.

Ben nodded as he finally finishing up cleaning her face. Leaning over, he kissed her lips softly, still tasting her dried tears on them. "Numb is a start." he told her gently as he brushed her hair back from her face. "Hey. With your makeup gone, I can see your freckles again." he tried to cheer her up as he smiled softly at her.

(soooo you know what I think? I think Keira or Damien should call Sydney.... >_> not for any particular reason of course. I don't have a plotting baddie. Nope. Nothing here!)

Adam paused, actually sparing her a backward glance. "Massive isn't even the proper word." He looked back up at the TV while waiting, his head tilting as he listened. Shea? Seriously? Shea had a brother?.... Jesus and now there were two of THEM as well. His fucking life was just getting better by the second.

He heard the man's comment and snorted, albeit quietly. Ignorant fucks. Like they knew. Like anyone knew what each individual 'freak' had to deal with. Ignorance was one of his many pet-peeves... and annoyed the shit out of him. "No one gives a shit what you have to say on the matter," he said out loud, directing his comment to the ignorant man in the back.

He stepped up to the counter and put his new can up there, pulling out a five to pay for it.

Ysabel sighed, figuring that she at least TRIED to apologize. She wasn't going to grovel at his feet or anything like that to get him to forgive her. She'd gone as far as she was willing to go. She froze as she heard his comment to the people, however, thinking that it was dangerous to say something like that. For someone who tried so hard to hide who he was, he really was careless sometimes.

The man in the back, as well as a few others, looked to him in shock. "well would you look at that. Tough guy is a mutant lover...." another mused, the man who'd spoken shook his head.

"He'll see soon enough what we see..." and it was true if you picked up the newspaper. Various and numerous stories about "mutants" ran on the pages. Fire starters that were serial arsenists, people with superhuman strength beating people to death for "fun", the list went on. Suddenly, everything that was horrible was linked to a "mutant", even if the person rotting in jail was simply normal.

The next thing to go out was a bolo to all officers' phones that told them about a missing teen by the name of Ben Gardner, age 19. He was last seen heading to out to a restaurant to meet a girl.

Keira gave him a small smile at his words but it faltered soon after. She looked down at her hands then, " Ben? Wh-why did you stay?" she asked him, her voice quiet and hoarse. She knew she could be opening up a whole can of worms, but she wanted to know. Most people would have freaked out and ran back to their old life. She'd seen it before.....

Damien chuckled softly as she sat on him, unable to ignore her sudden bout of constant contact. He wasn't complaining, just a bit surprised. "It did, mainly because I knew you were trying to help..." he mused, wrapping his arms around her waist easily. He leaned up and kissed her lips softly.

Ben smiled, glad to see it was working somehwat. His smile disappeared, however, at her next few words. Frowning, he sat there with her, running his fingers through her hair as he thought about it. "Why did I... why do you ask?" he asked her. "I don't know, belle. It just... seems like the smart thing to do." shrugs. "I mean, I would love to have everything go back to normal. Even have a chance of letting coach keep me on the team. I miss it. No school so much, but my friends and baseball. What I wouldn't give to have it back. It's not an option though. Being here, it's made me realize that I can't hide. I... I'm safer here with you guys, where I have a chance to survive. Because I know for a fact that if I was captured... I wouldn't make it out alive like Daniel." he told her quietly. He wasn't strong enough for that. "Then there's you." he added on as he looked at her with his dark brown eyes. "I meant it what I said yesterday, belle. I really like you." he brushed her hair off of her face. "A lot more than probably is natural."

Aeryn couldn't help the smirk on her face as he kissed her. "Doesn't matter how, it worked." she pointed out as she ran her fingers through his hair, catching the odd gray strand now and then. A spark lit in her grey eyes as she looked into Damien's green ones. "You know, Shea... I'm starting to think this isn't a good idea. I mean... aren't you a little old for me? You pervert." she teased him.
