Sunny LA, California. Home of the rich and famous. Home of the ever luxurious rodeo drive. Home of white sandy shores and waves of blue. LA is the home of all things glitter and gold, at least that's what they say. Within its bounds, and throughout America as a whole, men, women and children were forced into hiding. These people were being captured for their "talents" . These people had powers which the government saw as a threat. Now, because of this, these gifted people must hide who they are. For of they are caputured a fate worse than death awaits. |

Keira O'Connor looked like just another California girl. Petite, curvy, blonde with big blue eyes that could portray anything but the truth. She let her gaze bounce around behind her tinted sunglasses. Sighing, she switched the leg she was leaning against the wall. She tilted her head back, loving the feeling of the sun warming her face and shoulders. For Kiera, there was nothing better than a bright sunny day. She knew tranquility wouldn't last long, but it was better to enjoy it while she could. "You know, if you're not careful you'll begin to sprout little buds..." Kiera turned her gaze slowly to Damien, not nearly as amused as he seemed to be by the joke. "Oh come now, miracle grow! You know I'm just messing with you!" he flashed her a smile, leaning over her with his arm against the wall. "And to answer your question, I did score." he patted the pocket of his sports jacket. "It was rather sad, really, at how impressed they were...and no, I didn't get distracted by boobs again. That was once and I'm a guy...sue me! Kiera just scowled, "I told you to stay out of my head!" she mumbled as they began walking down the road together. "Shea, how much?" "Enough to keep the roof over our heads for a few months and food in our bellies." He mused contently. "You've always been such a worry wart, even when we were kids. Lighten up, Key, and trust me when I say I've got it handled." Damien gave his "little sister" with a reassuring smile. For someone who was good looking, and knew it, he did have quite the heart of gold under the schemes and cons. He always knew exactly what to say to get his way. He promised their parents he'd look after Kiera when they had to split up, and it wasn't a promise he was going to break. |

"Eugh, my neck is killing me." Aeryn Grayson muttered to herself as she rolled her neck and pulled back from the piece she was working on. Checking the clock, she realized that she was supposed to have gotten off of work an hour ago. Damn it! Springing up, she began to clean her work station up. Covering up the canvas, she placed the brushes into the cleaning solution. She was an Art preservist, taking old pieces and cleaning them up and making them presentable to the public. Walking over to the sink, she quickly washed her hands before hanging up her coat and grabbing her bag and leaving. Walking outside, she placed her glasses on with a smile. The sun always made her smile. Even if she couldn't tan to save her life. Despite living in Los Angeles, she still managed to be as pale as a ghost. Walking down the street, she could feel it starting to cool slightly as it changed into late afternoon. She loved the hours of her job. It always gave her time afterwards to go off and have fun. Hearing her stomach grumble, she figured she'd stop by her favourite diner. Wasn't Kiera working tonight anyways? It had been a couple of months since she had talked to the girl. Wiping her hand across her cheek, she grimaced as she felt something wet hit her hand. Looking down, she found black paint on her hand, knew she had a giant paint smudge of her cheek. Wonderful. Hands in his shorts, Benjamin Gardner walked down the street completely zoned out from the real world. There was a pair of black earbuds in his ears, Lil Jon blaring in his ear. He loved rap music. Always talking about his three favourite things; alcohol, women, and partying. Great stuff that. He had just graduated high school earlier that year before summer had began, and he was preparing for his freshman year at UCLA, having made it there on a baseball scholarship. He had worked his ass off for that damned thing. ((Outfit time? Cuz I can't resist lmao Aeryn: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?productId=5361_5863_131&catId=cat380157 (Make sure it's the navy one) http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?productId=1331_3095_142&catId=cat380159&bundleCatId=cat5600003 http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?productId=0417_2708_100&catId=cat4840020 http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?productId=0506_7455_001&catId=cat1070002 Ben: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?productId=4165_6769_811&catId=cat90012&bundleCatId=cat5340026 http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?catId=cat5180435&productId=0131_5686&crossBrand=web_cw and he's wearing a pair of brown flip flops lol )) |

((alrighty! *Cracks knuckles* Let's do this! I pre-apologize for length.)) A scream, followed by three loud shots startled the peace on the long street. Cars, taxis and buses all whizzed by, not disturbed at all. A man came bustling out of an alley, clearly hiding something under a jacket two sizes too big for him, while in his left hand, a gun caught the dying light of the sun. He came sprinting down the sidewalk, continually glancing backwards. He wasn't looking when he slammed into some kid wearing headphones. "Get the fuck out of my way!" He yelled, literally stepping on the kid as he hurried past him. A woman appeared out of the alleyway, screaming, crying and pointing at him, speaking in blubber language as she pointed back to the alley, then back to the man. He shoved through some guy and a little blonde girl, nearly shoving her to the ground as well. He actually gave her a glance, but didn't bother to stop as he took off down the street. ~~~ "You owe me. Don't think I'm not going to collect," Adam said as he unbuttoned his uniform pants to tuck his shirt in. Claire watched appreciatively as he pulled his undershirt up just enough to get a glimpse of what was beneath. She internally sighed; he was a gorgeous speciman of the male gender...but he was such a dick. Ah well. Faults were easily overlooked; he was her inside scoop. He let her in the back door to avoid the Chief seeing him letting press inside the station without express written consent....and then proceeded to give her the day's blotter. He always left something important out though...which he would hold over her head until she paid him. In one way or another. Not that she expressly minded. He really was a nice piece of...police officer. And he filled out that uniform beautifully. After all...he was 3 years out of the Marines. He'd been a grunt, but a well trained one. Landing his current job with the LAPD was a joke; they'd practically paid him to apply. Claire Greyson was a freelance journalist currently working for the LA Daily News. It wasn't the TImes...but she was working up to that. She'd been assigned crime, which hadn't been her first choice, but it turned out she met Detective Adam Jensine at a party one night and ever since, she'd been raking in so much cash, she barely knew how to waste it. Ha. Yeah, right. This was LA. "Well, Detective...I've got my information. Call me if anything else excitings pops up, okay, pumpkin?" Claire smiled as she stood, adjusting her glasses. BANG! The door to the locker room was shoved open violently. Adam grabbed her and stood in front of her, successfully hiding her. It wasn't easy; she was 5'11 without heels....but Adam stood at a cool 6'4, was broad shouldered and built. "Jensine!" "What?" Another office, a pudgy little guy who made Adam look like a greek god, came rounding the corner of the lockers. "We've got a mugging with shots fired. Chief says you." "Figures. Fine. Let me finish. I'll be there in a minute." Pudgy narrowed his eyes, but waddled away as Adam turned back to Claire. His face was settled in a bored-looking 'here we go again'. She grinned, bringing out her pen and notebook from her messenger bag. "I love you and your popularity, Detective Jensine." "Out." He pointed to the emergency exit which he had long disabled the alarm for. It was now her exit and entrance. "I'm totally stalking your well shaped ass, Jensine." She winked and scurried out the door to make sure she could follow the cars when they took off. Adam sighed as he finished dressing, checked his weapon and headed out to meet his partner. ~~~ Ten minutes later, two squad cars were angled on the outside of the alley with an ambulance already filled with one body bag. Adam stepped out, brushing off his uniform as he saw the paramedics speaking with some splotchy-faced woman who was bawling so much her eighteen pounds of makeup was streaming down her face instead of tears. Great. Claire pulled her brand new black Range Rover onto the side of the street, careless to the fact it wasn't a parking spot. She hopped out and scurried over to the scene, staying on the outskirts as she perused and eavesdropped for info. |

Keira tugged at the bottom of her skirt, boots clicking on the sidewalk. She knew she could've ended up working somewhere like Hooters or worse, but it didn't mean she particularly liked her job. As the youngest, and apparently, "cutest little southern belle" she was given a skirt, tank top and little shrug as a uniform. She didn't mind the job overall, though. She'd done worse for a lot less. She looked over to Damien then, as they walked to the diner. "You coming in to-what's wrong?" she asked as he paused, rubbing his temple. "Gah, some lady is freaking out about something....her thoughts are really jumbled and fucking loud..." he mumbled, signature grin forming a grimace. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath and relaxed, shaking his head. "there. Silence. Oh don't concern yourself, miracle grow. I'm fine. Been at it too long not to be!" he smiled an wrapped an encouraging arm around her shoulder as she rolled her eyes. As they rounded the hcorner they saw all of the commotion. Kiera looked around, making sure it was no one they knew before looking over to Damien who looked a bit annoyed at the whole situation. "God dammit, it's Jensine. Thought he'd been transferred." he grumbled pulling the corner of his fedora down just enough to put his face in shadow. While he loved messing with cops every once and a while, and what conman didn't, Jensine always got just a little two close for comfort. He looked over to Keira who'd placed her fingertips on the vine growing on the side of the building. "Anything good?" Keira shrugged, focusing a little longer. Once she was sure she was out of earshot of the cops, not seeing the reporter, she let out a bit of a grimace. "There was a man here earlier. He fled approximately 5 hours ago in an over sized coat." "Anything else?" Keira closed her eyes, ad she removed her sunglasses. "There was a scream then silence before he fled. I'm guessing someone is dead. The daffodils he ran passed say he shoved that young guy onto them. They aren't happy. The hydrangea in the corner is convinced there was a gun but the others think its insane." She opened her eyes then, "Man, around 30, medium build at about 6'. Dark hair, and a scar on his left hand." Damien nodded after she'd finished, lighting up a cigarette to calm his nerves. "As horrid as this may sound, let's hope is was one of them, not one of us. On both ends. I'd really rather not move...again." Keira nodded, letting her gaze bounce around. She had a few hours to kill before her shift, she may as well know if she'd be handing in her 2 weeks. Her eyes caught a young man giving a statement to the police, hand in his pockets and headphones around his neck. He definitely didn't look like the Cali type but who knew? Ben rubbed at his temple as he looked back up at the person who was getting his statement for the crime that had just happened. God Almighty his head was throbbing. He had been standing here for a couple of hours now, and his stomach was telling him that it was time to eat. He was freaking starving. When the woman once again asked what the man looked like, he had to close his eyes and take a deep breath. He had already told them this three times! How much more did he have to say it. Clenching his jaw, he repeated what he saw through closed teeth , his dark brown eyes showing just how agitated and impatient he was getting. Once he was finished with the description, he interrupted her before she could speak up again. "Look. I've given you all I know. Can I please go now?" he asked as she opened her mouth in shock before shutting it again. "I have to check in with my superiors first. Sit tight and I'll go ask." she told him as he nodded with a huff of air. Sticking his earbuds back in, he placed his hands in his pockets as he leaned against a nearby building and waited for them giving him the go ahead to leave. By the time Aeryn had made her way to where she was going to eat, she found a scene happening. There was yellow tape everywhere, police, ambulance. Damn... what the hell had she missed? Running her hand through her fiery hair, she walked up, curious as any of the other bystanders crowding the scene, wanting to get a good look as to what was going on. When she saw a bodybag on a stretcher, she raised an eyebrow, her grey eyes searching the scene to find a hysterical woman next to the bodybag. Murder, that was always a fun one. God the stupidity of people killed her. She rolled her eyes as the woman broke down even more as they rolled the body towards the ambulance. She clenched her hands as she found a reporter there already getting ready stick her fucking nose into private business again. God, she hated reporters. They were her kyrptonite or some shit like that. Shaking her head, she cooled her quickly rising temper and melted back into the crowd, ready to move on again. |

Keira took her gaze off of the aggravated young man, scanning the crowd. A glimpse of firey red hair caught her eye and a slow smile spread upon her lips. She saw a daisy bud on the sidewalk against Aeryn's shoe. She tilted her head a bit and the daisy grew, it's soft petal brushing the art restorer's leg. Keira pulled Damien over a bit do they'd be within her line of sight. Damien looked over to Aeryn with a small smirk and gave her a small wave before returning his attention to the situation at hand. He saw the reporter off to the side and leaned back against the wall. He blew out a long stream of smoke, listening in on the young man's thoughts, trying to get a better grip on the situation at hand. |

Adam surveyed the area, looking over as one of his underlings came over to report about a witness. "That's fine. Please go 'comfort' the victim's....whatever she is. She's giving me a headache." Adam walked over to the kid, who by judging couldn't be more than fresh out of high school. He rolled his eyes slightly as he approached. He tapped his ear, motioning for the kid to remove his earbuds. He looked down to the notes the other officer had given him. "You're Ben Gardner, I'm assuming." It wasn't much of a question, but Adam never really asked anything. "I have your statement. Is there any other enlightening information you can provide me about the situation that you may have failed to or forgotten to tell the other officer." Claire had sunk into the crowd perfectly. Again, her height made it a little difficult, but she always managed. She was good at her job. She had been perusing the perimeter when she'd picked up low voices off to the side. She saw a pair, a man and a young woman talking quietly. She watched their lips, eventually seeing that the man apparently knew Adam...which was a nice twist...and the woman knew more about the perpetrator than the police did. Well. She immediately started jotting down notes. She bit her lip to keep back a smile as she edged around closer to them, when the man happened to look over at her. Damn. Cover blown. Oh well. "Excuse me... Did you two witness what happened here?" She asked, tucking the pen into her dark brown ponytail and adjusting her glasses. |
