Cassie knew he wasn't focused either by the silence that hovered ominously in the confines of her jeep. She pulled around back of the playhouse, shut off the engine and sat there for a moment as she undid her seat belt. Finally, she hoisted herself over the center console and onto his lap. She looked down at first, at the cross hanging around her head with a shaky breath before looking to him, "Ian....we need to talk. Tonight....went a lot worse than I let on..."

~~

She smiled lightly; at least it was something. "How are you going to get to the club tomorrow night then?" she asked him, shaking her head a little. "I'm fine on my subway, Dante....and what your father says is irrelevant to me right now..." she assured him with a glance back to the house before shaking her head.

~~~
She started a chain reaction as she kneed her initial assailant in the groin. Sylvia hissed as she felt her back against the cold stone wall of the casino, each arm being pinned by a different guy as the third walked up to her and landed a right hoot into her gut. She felt the wind being knocked out of her, as well as her lunch coming back for an encore. "Not so tough, are you, bitch?" he asked her, WAY too close for his safety or her preference.
((ohhh my gosh, I haven't felt this terrible in like...years. :( And it's just no fun being sick when you're 7000 miles away from home. :( ))
Ian glanced up at her when she crossed over the console and plopped herself in his lap. He smiled a little and put his arms around her, tilting his head curiously. "What do you mean...? I mean, yeah I didn't hold up so well....but...I thought I did okay. What else happened that I missed, baby?" His hazel eyes met hers as he drew absent patterns on her side with his fingers.
~~
Dante nodded, just holding out his keys. "Take it. I'll get to club, no problem. I think it'll be good for me to take a taxi once in a while. Besides... driving always calms me down and there's a full tank of gas." He smiled gently, turning her face back to look up at him. He placed the keys in her hand and leaned down, kissing her lips gently. "I'll see you tomorrow for sure... alright?"
~~~

Suddenly, the man that had kneed Sylvia was ripped away and thrown backwards into a street light, a loud CLANG! echoing when his head whipped backwards and hit the pole. It happened so fast that in the waning light of the late afternoon, it's almost like it happened on it's own.

Then, seconds later, her right arm was freed and there was the sounds of scuffling, then a sickening crack following a punch.

While the two were dazed, Gabriel honed in on the third one who was holding Sylvia against a wall and rammed him into the wall with his shoulder, landing a few vicious punches in his stomach.

"Get out of here!" he growled at Sylvia as he held the one against the wall. He didn't see the fourth as he came flying out of nowhere, landing a punch clear across Gabe's face. Gabriel dropped the guy he was holding and turned to face the fourth, while the other two were picking themselves up. His gray eyes were like ice as he glared the man down. It didn't take much for the man to not want to be mush against the big, muscular guy in front of him.

Gabriel reached back, grabbing Sylvia's hand and pulling her up next to him. "Come on," he growled, his right cheek red and puffy, a dark bruise already starting to form. As they started walking, he put an arm firmly around her waist, but no where near enough to hurt her.

He felt a tap on his shoulder and when he looked over his shoulder, he saw a strange glint and then moments later, a searing pain was coming from just centimeters below his left eye. He pushed Sylvia forward and turned around, facing the initial assailant who had pulled a knife on the two of them. "Get out of here!" he yelled again as he started dodging well placed swipes. A few of them made contact, ripping his shirt beneath his leather jacket and a few jolts of pain went through him, but as a general whole, nothing hurt him too bad.

((Awww…*Sends you homemade soup*))

Cassandra gave him a small smile, “You held up great, Ian…especially with what you were handed.” She told him, not able to help the tears rimming her dark eyes, “I just….my parents….” She sighed, biting her lip, “They don’t want us together because your white…” she said softly, but there was venom to her words. “They said I have to break-up with you before they come back from Barcelona but…” a silent tear slipped down her cheek.

~~

Cheyenne went to resist once more until she felt the cold metal in her hand and his lips against hers. She gave him a small, hesitant smile before nodding, “I’ll call you later…” she promised, kissing him once more before heading over to his car. She unlocked it and climbed in, adjusting everything to compensate. She wasn’t really thrilled with the idea of going out by herself but what real choice did she have? She gave him a small wave before pulling out and heading down the road….

~~~
Sylvia stood there in half shock, half pain-induced daze as Gabriel went after the 4 guys who’d attacked her to begin with. She brought herself back to reality as she felt her feet moving, Gabe’s arm firm around her waist. When the final guy pulled a knife on Gabe, and she stumbled, suddenly everything came back into focus.
She shook her head, taking her elbow and driving it hard into the assailant’s back, right between the shoulder blades. He gasped in pain and turned to swipe at her; unfortunately for him she was a lot stronger than her curvy figure let on as she grabbed his wrist as he lunged and smashed her palm into his nose, breaking instantly. She grabbed the knife he’d dropped as he stumbled back for good measure before taking Gabriel by the hand, knife secure in her pocket.
Ian watched her curiously, seeing the wetness forming on her lids. Why was she about to cry...? He frowned, which just didn't seem to fit on his face. "What about...?" His voice was cut short when he heard what she was saying. His eyebrows twitched, then came together. "Because I'm white? Are you serious...?" He looked incredulous. "What are you going to do? Are you gonna break up with me...?" He looked her straight in the eyes, his own a mix between anxiety, irritation and maybe a bit of fear.
~~
Dante nodded, waving back as she pulled out. He watched the car until it was far enough down the road that he couldn't see it anymore. He walked back inside, past Lacy and paused at his father's study doors. They were still talking.
"....I'll have the answer for you before you leave. I'll give you a call when I'm finished with the documents. If there's any urgency or if you need to leave early, just call here and talk to Lacy. She'll get me the message. It would be best if you were careful though. If Dante happens to pick up, it's best you just ask for Lacy..."
Dante frowned. What were they talking about now...?
~~~

"You don't listen to me," Gabe growled at her as they made their way from the scene. His face was bruised and bleeding where the blade had sliced just below his eye. He was insanely lucky, considering the blade only missed his actual eye by less than half an inch. "I told you to just leave..."

He wrapped an arm around her waist as he dragged out, what else?, a cig and stuck it in his mouth. He looked over at her, his gray eyes unrelenting...at least for a moment. ".....Are you okay...?"

Cassandra shook her head vigorously, “No…no. I just wanted to warn you…” She said, her voice cracking a little. “I don’t wanna lose you, please don’t think that…I’m just tired that because for once I’m actually happy with the way my life is heading and now…Your father, my parents. We’re not in the f*cking 60’s anymore….” She rambled.

~~

“Thank you, Henry. I hope to hear from you soon with good news. I think it will be better once we’re in the clear. I think you can understand my concerns as a parent.” Jeremy’s voice said, “Now I suppose we should get on with the business side of why I’m here to begin with….” He chuckled and went on with the interview.

~~~
Sylvia ignored his jabs, looking over his face, eyes, the slashes in his stained shirt. She took an audible gulp, trying to keep herself from barfing as she nodded, “Better than you…” she said hoarsely, rolling her eyes a little at his cigarette but didn’t comment. He’d obviously gotten the worse of it, “How are you holding up?....”
Ian sighed a little, a bit of relief on his face. "Then why are you so upset, baby? Listen, I already had a heart to heart with my old man. This isn't ending for me and I really don't care what he thinks about race, color, or...anything in between." Hs voice was more irritated than anything, but not at her. He looked up into her eyes, wiping away the stray tears. "If you don't care, and I don't care... then why should you be upset?"
~~
Dante frowned, now insistent on finding out what they were talking about. Give his dad a few hours... then he'd be asleep and Dante could easily sneak into the office and go through documents. He'd done it before.
~~~

"I'm fine," he snapped, every step he took reminding him of all the scrapes and slashes from the knife on his chest and eye. "Listen, we just need to get back to the hotel so I can clean up." He lit up his cig and glanced to her, sighing. "Why'd you have to go and get yourself into that situation...? If you'd not been stubborn and just stayed with me...."

Cassie took a big sniffle before giving him a watery smile, "I just...I don't know. Sweetheart I never told you this, nor do i think you'll quite get it, but I'm already called an Oreo...Having a white boyfriend doesn't help that image of me but I'm tired of trying to please everyone. I'm really just sick and tired of it.."

~`~

"Oh yes, Gabriel....I knew as soon as I walked out that door to get away from your pessimistic, antagonizing, stubborn self for a few minutes I'd be called out as a prostitute and then surrounded by five guys who couldn't take a fucking hint." she snapped back, her voice still hoarse as she took another audible gulp. Like hell she was going to barf in the middle of the street.

Ian scowled a little, "I actually do know what that means, Cass, and I don't see how that should..." He sighed, looking to the side. "Listen. If you wanna keep up your image, then...just go easy on me. Just do it now before I get you all wrapped up in my head and make a big scene when it's really not necessary." He looked back to her, his eyes worried. "I don't blame you...cuz... I mean, I know how that's gotta be hard. And demeaning...."

~~

Gabe sighed and stopped walking, pulling her to a stop as well. He took a long drag, tossed the cig away and blew the smoke off to the side. "...It was four, actually. I fought them, remember? And just...here." With his hand around hers, he pulled her into the nearest hotel, and over one of the many benches by a huge fountain. He sat her down and bent down in front of her, wincing at the feeling of his broken skin folding over itself. "Relax. Take deep breaths."

She took his face in between her palms and shook her head, "Ian...I don't want to lose you over this. I'm not breaking up with you." she told him seriously, "I've dealt before and I'll deal now...I just wanted to tell you so you knew." she kissed his lips gently, "I'm tired of living three different lives...I just want one life, whether people like it or not, preferably with you in it."

~~

Sylvia bit the inside of her lip as he fulled them to a stop, following him with no real argument. She sat down with a small hiss of pain, looking up at him and after a moment rewarded him with a deep breath. If she didn't know him any better, she'd think he actually cared...

Ian kissed her gently back, his eyes flashing open as soon as they separated. "Well..... if you're sure it's what you want, then baby, I can't deny you." He let a familiar smile spread across his face, and kissed her, a little more heatedly this time. When he pulled away, he was still smiling. "I'm here for ya now, you know. If you ...you know...ever wanna talk or feel down or something. That's sort of my job description, isn't it?" The hint of his normal sloppy grin was present, though not full blown yet.

~~

"Good." He just shifted a little, though it was a bit uncomfortable to do so. "Just keep doing that until you feel less nauseous. Then we'll go back to the hotel." He turned his face away, tenderly reaching up and wiping away some of the trailing blood that was coming from the slice under his eye. He probably didn't look too appealing right now... not that he really cared, but it did get annoying.
