After eight years of development OnLive is finally set to launch June 17, 2010. They've got a new trailer on their site and the FAQ has been updated now. What you need: a standard PC, mac, or television, a 5mbps connection, and a $15 a month. I'm definitely going to try it, at least for a little bit, just for the novelty of it. I can't turn down awesome technology. First... 25,000 people to sign up get 3 months free. |

If you stop paying for it, the games you bought will no longer be available to you. You're really just paying however much each game costs so that the service you pay for will continue to let you play it, so long as you keep paying. |

That is one concern. But there was a line in their FAQ that I don't fully understand.
To me, this can mean two things, the first being the most likely. You pay the service fee AND have to spend money on the games. Obviously. Or... you rent and buy the games AND (optionally) pay a service fee for the extra features. This is highly unlikely though. Anyway, I think $15 and a few game rentals would give me a good idea of how it works and plays. I don't think I'd ever buy a whole collection of games from this service for the very reason you stated. |

I'll stick with home consoles and the occasional Steam game for now... Besides, my internet connection isn't fast enough for OnLive. I'm sure of it. |
