Hearing of the rumors about the Militia recruiting a few men and women for a relativity small battle. The battle supposedly going to take place just outside the West gates. Nendo walks in the Roaring Dragon's Tavern in hopes to sign up and become a part of this battle. Seemingly head strong, but primarily in hopes to use humanity to overcome his curse. Near the right side of the tavern was an older looking man, but was surrounded by papers and and inkwell. Presuming that this was the recruiter, Nendo walks up to the man, trying not to look conspicuous. "I was told to come here for the Kobold War?", stated Nendo with a joking smile. The recruiter didn't seem very impressed with his approach, but still pulled out the papers and the inkwell. The man stated, "Its not a WAR, its merely a pest problem that we didn't see the need to put our troops against." Signing the papers after a quick skim over, Nendo read that the Militia was not to be held responsible for any deaths but merely the larger medical expenses. Nendo notices a larger man walking up behind him, smelling like beer and pigs, and decides to make his last question brief. "Are you guys supplying the weapons?". The recruiter responded with a snort of a laugh and a shake of his head, then motioned the next man forward. Nendo begins to walk out of the tavern, while the recruiter yells at him, "You meet with everyone else tomorrow at dawn in front of the tavern! Try not to be late kid!" |

The stark-white Naga assassin waited outside the door of the Roaring Dragon, waiting for the Lycan who was exiting. Lucky timing, she thought to herself wryly. Zahrina was not a creature who put much stock into the abstract concepts such as fate or luck. Instead, she put stock into her own physical and mental ability to perform her duties. "So you think that you know what you're doing, do you?" The Naga spoke from the shadows, uncoiling her tail in preparation to move. She did not believe that he would be the kind to blindly attack out of surprise, but she was viewed as a monster by most due to her serpentine form, as most Naga were. "You think that you can just do every service possible for the human race and some merit system will redeem you from your curse?" She knew what he sought, her informants were paid well when she herself could not gather information. It was a useful loyalty that they divulged everything that they knew. |

Realizing the woman was referring to him, Nendo stopped walking in the opposite direction. He turned his head to listen but still kept his back to her. Nendo hesitated for a moment, the scent was similar to a reptile but kept a few human like features. In Nendo's mind was like a scholar rushing through a library, until he realized who.... more of what was speaking to him... "Naga," Nendo thought to himself anxiously. Nendo was contemplating pulling out his dagger, but the Naga showed no sign of aggression so he left her in her sheath. Nendo didn't know whether to respond aggravated or calm, not many knew his secret, and fewer of them were still alive. "I'm not looking for a redemption of this curse, and nor do I feel a need to explain myself." Nendo replied calmly. He then began to walk away, in hopes that he put and end to the conversation. Nendo was never open about his curse, even to those he trusted. Too many memories that he wished to keep buried. Raising his head to look for a building to jump to so that he could reach his so called home-on-a-roof, Nendo paused for a moment, awaiting to see if the Naga had something to say before he left. |

"Deny your underlying motives, if you like," Zahrina responded patiently. As an old player at this game, she knew that it was not always wise to reveal all of your information just because the object refused to react in your preferred manner. One way or another he would understand what she meant to do. "Aren't you the least bit curious as to why they are recruiting primarily to the non-humans in the city?" It was a simple question that the Lycan would either process or be bothered by later. Seeing that he only paused to hear if there was anything else from her, she decided to enlighten him to a different point. "For future reference, don't assume that just because a Naga does not already brandish a weapon or aren't poised to strike that we are no threat. Even completely still, we are a threat." Pulling back into the shadow, though her gleaming white scales would give her away if he looked for her, she waited to see how he processed the little tails of information she had offered. |

Nendo's ears perked up a little upon the Naga pointing out all of the non-human races that were signing up. "Ok..... you peaked my interest." Nendo stopped his preparation to jump and began to turn to the Naga. Nendo still feeling uneasy about his pursuer, keeps in mind of the dagger at his lower back, thinking of the ways he can move while still pulling out his dagger. Especially with her last comment about her still being a dangerous, not that he think she would attack him, but primarily because she pointed it out. Thinking to himself, "Arrogance..... *sigh* Why does everyone have to be so arrogant?" Taking a deep breath, to take his mind off of her arrogant tone. "So what are they not telling us?" He asks the Naga, forcing himself to be calm. Thinking to himself the multiple scenarios that could be the answer. Extermination, Relocation, and Entrapment, were a few to instantly come to mind. Stopping his mind from continuing, Nendo waited for the Naga's response, hoping for a straight answer rather than her riddles that she seems to be enjoying. |

"I thought I might. Listen carefully, I don't care if you heed my warning or not, but as an assassin I have eyes in every situation that pertains to non-humans in the capital," the Naga began, uncoiling her tail out of habit. It was uncomfortable to attempt to keep her yards of scaled hide hidden and immobile when it was in her nature to be in motion. "There have been talk among the city guard for months of purging the city of any nonhuman. There have been no official orders given for the purge, but that is to keep the King unaware of the coup. My informants are well-paid and the best in this city. You would do well to keep eyes in the back of your head, Lycan. My presence is unknown, your name is on their list. This is only the beginning, as there has not been a kobold sighting in decades around here, according to the records which my informants have recovered." Pausing a moment to allow the Lycan to process her information, she gathered her thoughts, wondering to herself why she bothered. "This is merely a formality between freaks. Stay alive, Nendo. You may yet be needed." It was as honest of a cryptic remark that she and her black humor could muster. She had a soft spot for meddling in the attempts at extermination by the humans, almost always delighted to see the inhuman species survive against the human's best efforts. |

Thinking about the new information from the Naga, Nendo contemplates believing her or not. Only just meeting her and she seems to know plenty, "Either she is telling the truth and actually trying to help, or she is one of those crazies that are in their own reality.....Damn it all I wish the answer was crazy, then I wouldn't have to be as worried." Nendo looks up at the Naga, first thing being noticed is her red eyes, slightly curious as to her last statement. "I'll be sure to stay alive then." Saying it with a slightly joking tone. "I still plan on going, so on one hand what you say is false and I come back with Kobold blood on my hands. And on the other hand your right, and I take out as many of my former kin as I can. There only lies one question.... why contact me?" |

Meeting the Lycan's probing gaze, she slid easily into the light, where he could see every inch of her scaled figure garbed in a grey tunic. The only features aside from her tunic that varied from the alabaster of her hide were her red-tinted eyes and raven-black hair, bound tightly back in pleated braids for efficiency. Noting that half-doubt in the boy's eyes and sarcasm, Zahrina set her guard aside and decided to do something completely uncharacteristic of her: be blatantly and bluntly honest. "You were one of the few that had the gall to sign up for this out of what seemed like pure motives. Anyone that values moral fiber above the stigma of one's own nature deserves to know what they're up against. Even if this is not the first step in the plan to purge, they'll be keeping a close eye on you for future plans. I'm not willing to risk your life with ignorance that there is an imminent and secretive threat lurking within this city's walls." Placing her walls of crypticism back in place, she repeated, "A formality to attempt to save your life and with any hope, deter them from staging a full-scale purge." Certain that she had made her point, the Naga remained still, eyes fixed on the Lycan in case he doubted her further or if he needed more information. |

With a smirk across his face, Nendo repeats, "Heh, a formality between freaks.....Thank you. I still plan on going, but at least I now know to keep an eye over my shoulder." Believing the conversation was over, Nendo bows to the Naga and begins to walk away. Looking up on top of the building to his left to make sure it was clear to jump to and then turning his head over his shoulder, Nendo says to the Naga, "Also My name is Nendo if you didn't already know. Just so I don't have to respond to "Lycan" if we cross paths again." Calling on the power of his curse, Nendo leaps onto his target building to make his way to his temporary home. Running from the streets and the Naga before she could respond. Jumping from building to building until he reached his small shed like living space on top of what looks to be a three story home, Nendo thinks to himself, "Maybe I'll see her again, maybe I won't. Its still creepy to know that she has been keeping an eye on me...... Oh well, better start getting rest for tomorrow." Nendo rolls down next to his bow and his quiver that he left behind that day, and scans the immediate area one last time before attempting to sleep. After deeming the area secure, Nendo lays back and lets his mind drift into nothing. Blocking everything else out, hearing nothing but the sound of his heartbeat, slowly falling into the next day. |

Silent and motionless until he retreated to his haven above the city, Zahrina turned around the corner of the Tavern. The alley behind the Roaring Dragon was nearly pitch black, but she had little trouble locating what she sought. There was a heartbeat, warmblooded, at the center of the deepest shadow. "The seed has been planted, as you desired, Garoth," the Naga hissed. She disliked manipulation, though it was a useful tool. Her theory was that if something needed to be done, the person with the knowledge should take care of it or pay someone like her to take care of it. "Good. He should rid this city of the unworthy. His morals are a bit too strong for his own good, according to your informants. Keep an eye out for shifts in activity. This is, your ticket back to the status of freelance after all," the male, human voice chuckled. Rage coiled in Zahrina's gut at that. As much as she hated manipulating others, she hated being manipulated and blackmailed even more. This is the last time, after this they lose everything they can use against me and I can get out of this putrid city, she thought to herself to relax her system. |

Bright and early the following morning, Nendo walks himself through the happenings of the previous night. Thinking how to approach the situation, "Obviously i need to be cautious but must I make the first strike?" Slightly regretting not asking more questions to the Naga before, Nendo grabs his bow and some bread, then makes his way back down to the pub. Landing on the ground as silently as he could to avoid the attention of the waking streets, Nendo continue's making his way to the pub. "It's odd for the streets to not be this empty at this time in the morning," Nendo said quietly to himself. There was a crowd of people near the doors of the pub, a few guards, many oddities of people and then the civilian like people, all in a clutter. Nearly everyone in the group was in a tantrum of either shocked or curious, talking about who's and why's. Nendo decided not to bother with talking to the strangers and to see what happened. Nendo didn't even walk near the pub before the scent of blood filled his nose, which made him all the more curious. Pushing his way through the people he finds there are two guards blocking the way into the building. Nendo calmly approached one of the men and asked, "So who died?" slightly in a joking tone expecting this not to be the guards first time having a post similar to this one. The guard looked at Nendo with a little anger and replied, "Johnathan Wilkens was killed last night before leaving the pub. He was the one recruiting people for a coup of some kind. We don't have the details yet." "Looks like she got to him before I could" Nendo thought to himself with a smirk on his face. Walking out of the people infested area so he could breathe, Nendo decides to go and see if he can find the Naga from last night, "That kind of a scent shouldn't be too hard to find." |

After the bloody deeds of the previous night, Zahrina had hunkered down in one of the safe houses her "employer" provided her. No doubt her little target from last night would come looking for her in search of answers. She expected it, half tempted to leave the door unlocked and the trap unarmed. She locked the door, but disarmed the trap out of simple courtesy. How could this Nendo know to be prepared for that sort of thing? Fiddling with her dagger, Riptide, she splayed her great scaly hide partially across the plain sofa in an attempt to ease her anticipation. There was no way of knowing the state of mind which Nendo would approach her haven with. He could very well torch this place and roast her alive if he took particular offense to the deeds performed in the shadows of the night. Of course, how could he know if it was her doing or the work of some other Hand in the darkness? |
