The new morning has come. Nexus streched a bit and breathed the air. However, it was not as fresh as it once was. Something was amiss, something he knew about. He hopped to Raksha's branch and gently awoke her. "Wake up, my love.. We have to move." He closed his eyes to give more attention to his smell. It seemed that the smell was thicker than he thought. Something that stressed him slightly. He never realized that he had killed so many people, or was it really him? He gently put his arms around Raksha as if he were about to carry her off. "I'm not sure if there are people coming or what, but something bad is coming this way. We can relocate elsewhere, but we have to move now." He tried to make it sound urgent. Somewhat because it was urgent. He didn't want her here. He just wanted to be happy with her. Today, the sky was heavily clouded, it could rain, which would dampen the smell and possibly spread it out. The sound of thunder resonated throughout the forest as he shook her once more. "Come on my love, we have to get moving.." |

Yawning and stretching out at the sound of her lovers voice, Raksha woke. Groggy from being woken, she asked, "What is it, my love?" Hearing his explanation, she attuned her senses and sensed death. The scent hung in the air thicker than a fog that made her want to gag. "What did you do, my love. I knew you were killing, but so much death around us." Her heart started pounding like the thunder that shook the sky. How deep was the darkness in her lovers heart and could she fix it? She hoped that she could. Jumping down out of the tree, she checked to make sure she had her blades ready and then turned to Nexus. |

Death was indeed in the air this day. The body had largely been picked clean by various creatures of the wild. Shadryn had frightened away a coyote that had been tearing away a hunk of flesh clinging to the iliac crest of the pelvic bone upon his approach. There was little left but a skeleton now, lashed to the tree with strong cords. It had been a human man, judging from the orientation of the pubis. The manner in which the ropes pulled tightly against the bones, breaking them in some places, along with his overall position strung limply to the trunk suggested that the man had been dead before meeting this grisly fate, but still such treatment repulsed Shadryn not only at sight, but also in the way the scent of rotting flesh hung about the scene like a fetid mist. Despite the horrid sight, Shadryn showed not a hint of discomfort on his grimly drawn countenance as he stepped closer and carefully examined the corpse, running his golden gaze over its whole length. As he had expected, little information could be derived from the neck as so little of it remained. However, the whole body showed traces of congealed blood, and indeed the ground below the tree had been stained black with the crust of it rolling off the dead form. This simply could not be the work of a vampire or druid. This had very deliberately had been done as a warning to other humans that might wander into the forest. Vampires often enjoyed such grisly displays, but they would not do anything to scare away potential prey. Druids rarely killed humans at all (Shadryn expected it had more to do with the taste than any particular preferential treatment), and certainly would not befuddle the beauty of their home by displaying the bodies so. No, this was something else. Something that very obviously didn't want any more humans in the forest. It was working, too. Humans from Stronferth had been vanishing in these woods in droves, and the rest had no interest in joining their lost brethren. Ultimately, that was why Shadryn was here. The Angel'ohim of Eolyn generally had very little interest in such trivial human matters, but as chance would have it he had been to Stronferth a day hence seeking an audience with King Ankyovich. He sought to forge an alliance, as the threat from Siaraia was growing by the day. Personally, Shadryn rather disliked Ankyovich. The pretentious human had the pomposity to refer to himself as a Godking, but such arrogance was not uncommon among humans, who typically had an exaggerated sense of their own self-importance. To make matters more irritating, Ankyovich had refused Shadryn's terms, which mainly consisted of waiting for Indira to make a definite move for war before acting. Ankyovich seemed to crave bloodshed and the battlefield, and urged Shadryn to attack with his forces immediately. Upon Shadryn's refusal, Ankyovich had turned up his nose and sent Shadryn away. Before he could leave the room, however, Shadryn had caught wind of Ankyovich telling one of his subjects to send a battalion of soldiers into the forest to solve the "vampire matter". Inquiring of the situation led Ankyovich to tell Shadryn of the recent disappearances, and that reports were of a "vampire and druid menace". Shadryn suggested that rather than risk his soldiers' lives at such a time so near to war, he himself would go deal with this matter. If it really was vampires and druids, perhaps their activity would indicate some kind of alliance or valuable information. In return, Shadryn asked for the alliance between their races to be forged and his terms (caution for the moment to gauge Indira's intentions) to be agreed to. Ankyovich had agreed, and thus Shadryn had struck out as the errand boy of the "Godking" this morning. Few Angeli would have agreed to such a silly task, but as one who had learned to compromise many times in his considerable lifespan, Shadryn tried to focus on the benefits. As a hero, he had often found that few agreed to help him with any task he sought out to do unless he performed some quest or obtained some object for them first, so this would not be the first time. Shadryn focused his mind on the task at hand as he sank down onto his haunches near the tree, perusing the ground for any trace of the true culprit. Since the vampire/druid allegation was obviously false, he now had no idea what he as dealing with so he had to proceed with caution for the time being. His eyes found a trail, though it was difficult to discern because attempts had been made to cover it. Footprints had been covered with leaves and brush kicked over them, so it was by the disturbed sections of the forest floor that he could make out something of the right direction. Whoever was the culprit for these disappearances, they were clearly new to life in the forest. Although their attempts to cover their trail were obvious, they were rough and inexperienced. Shadryn plodded along semi-cautiously, making no effort to conceal himself but remaining constantly vigilant. On this particular day he was wearing rather typical forest garb. A sleeveless brown leather tunic was cinched at the waist with a leather belt and gold buckle. He wore brown leggings ending at the hems with matching worn leather boots. The most noticeable feature was the long brown scarf wrapped many times around his neck, concealing the lower part of his face, with tails that were ragged with wear and stretched down his back to his heels. He moved with a confident, graceful gait, the only indicator of his regality being the twin blades strapped to his back. Soltia's hilt poked up diagonally over his right shoulder, while Lunaras was lashed horizontally across the backs of his hips with hilt on his left side. He was apparently alone, though appearances can be deceiving in that regard... Shadryn's worn boots broke sticks and crunched leaves with their passage as he followed the vague, worn trail. He drew near to Nexus and Raksha's tree, though he was not aware of it. |

"I have never meant to harm so many, their insolence blinded my judgement. I will make my amends, I promise. But for now, we have to move out." He grabbed his swords and ran up to her and kissed her lips. Then he took her hand showed her an untraveled path. This path led to a deeper forest unknown to him. Although, she may possibly be familiar with it. There, the plants are greener, the fruit is sweeter, and the life is plenty. He withdrew his swords near the oasis, leaving obvious dents in the ground that he covered with leaves. He then began to spread leaves and such over the mounds of dirt that contained animal corpses. One of the huge dog. The other of the Imperial war horse. He quickly picked some fruit and wrapped it in rags that were once his clothing. At this point, he was indeed barechested, the bite mark quickly healing around his shoulder from the dog bite, and the couple scars here and there. He picked up a good bit of things and hoisted it behind him. "We can't stay long my love... We must move deeper into the forest. There we can be in peace for good. It is beautiful and I have never been, so I thought it may be nice to go there today." He took a step ahead for a moment, then hung his head in shame. "Raksha.. I'm sorry I haven't told you, but the bodies of those hunters that I fought have been used to make warning signs to keep more humans from entering the forest. Indeed, it has worked.. But at a price.. I felt that it was the only way for them to listen. I just hope that you understand. I promise, after we leave this small part of the forest, I will never mercilessly kill another human again." He turned around at her and smiled, hopefully she understood, then he walked ahead towards the path. Either waiting for her to follow or stop him. Edited by Nexus, Jun 27 2011, 11:01 PM.

Raksha had followed, but once Nexus explained the extent of his actions, she could not. "You...." she choked out. "You... fool." Lowering her voice and clenching her fists, it was the only way for her to contain her rage. If there was indeed someone or something after them, which was highly likely and made more sense now, she could not give away their position. Not yet, anyway. She had to make him see the extent of his error. "You desecrated my home, killed more than you should have, I'm assuming mostly without provocation. You desecrated the bodies of those who by your culture, should have been buried, spread filth into the forest and have done the unthinkable. For what? To keep them out of the forest? Humans have always wandered where they should not be, this forest is a part of the Earth Mother, yes, but this is mostly their territory, how could you?" The depth of shadows expanded far past her reach. Nexus thought his actions justified, so she could not help him. To kill one's own brethren when it was just and right was one thing, but without a reason or need other than a twisted sense of the greater good was to consider himself above the natural order of things. Raksha had always hated humans, and she had just cause. However, unless she had a true reason to harm them, such as they were desecrating the forest or slaughtering animals needlessly, she could not, by Druidic law, take action. Her knees, in their forest green leggings shook and she gripped the hem of her white tunic tightly, unintentionally stretching the fabric. The taste of his lips grew sour, his smell grew unpleasant and within she began to feel cold. How could she have misjudged this so badly? When she met him, she had hoped to open his eyes to his own ignorance, instead she set him on a path of "Righteous" destruction that made her ill. Raksha could not allow him to use the ideals of her kind to justify the killing that he had done and would more than likely do again. |

The day was overcast, but at least the air was mostly still and there was a good bit of warm air rising over the forest. Iracaudia was soaring perhaps 50 meters or so above the treetops, but she could still see and hear what was going on in the forest as well as if she were sitting in the branches. Birds of prey had highly attuned senses of sight and sound in order to more easily catch prey. An osprey herself, Ira deeply preferred fish, but years and years of flying point for Shadryn and keeping watch had gradually attuned her to the task. Today was no different. Of course, Shadryn could not speak to her at this distance, but they had a kind of telepathic link through which they could share emotions and basic understanding. Through this, Ira knew that Shadryn didn't know what they were dealing with, except that it was definitely not vampires. The white and black raptor angled her wings closer to her body, sending her into a shallow dive that increased her airspeed and sent her swooping lower over the canopy. The wind whistled about her streamlined form as she automatically made minor adjustments to her wing angles and external feathers. All of these tiny changes were part of the unseen art of flight that came so naturally to birds, but which most land-bound species had not even begun to grasp. Such was why flight was such an unreachable goal for them, such an impossible quandary. Ira was purposefully getting ahead of Shadryn, who was moving along at a decent clip in the forest beneath her. She wanted to see for herself where he was heading and what exactly he was looking for, and she didn't have to go far to find it. Her piercing, telescopic eyes seemed to sweep aside the branches with their gaze alone as she blew by, but it wasn't long before they locked onto something. It was what appeared to be a man and a woman...no, a druid. Her motions were far too feline and her clothing far too rustic to be that of a human woman. But the man was most certainly human. They had stopped for the moment, but the man seemed intent on pulling the druid girl down a path deeper into the forest. Ira arrested her rapid flight somewhat, bringing herself around in a wide bank and spreading her wings wide to increase lift and soar just a little bit higher. She was relatively sure this was what Shadryn was searching for because both man and druid were armed and, as Ira's inescapable eyesight revealed, there were flecks of crusted, dried blood on the man's white and black blades. They had surely been in use quite recently. Ira began a constant, slow circle around the pair, watching them closely and carefully controlling her height. She was high enough that she doubted they could see her easily through the thick trees, but low enough that she could see and hear them as if they were right next to her. She could hear a rat rustling through a log a half mile away. It was but child's play to make out what the druid girl was saying to the man, in a cold, scolding tone that certainly was not friendly. "Humans have always wandered where they should not be, this forest is a part of the Earth Mother, yes, but this is mostly their territory, how could you?" Ira let out a screech that reverberated through the trees, but would be difficult to discern from the typical sounds of the forest unless one was listening closely. Shadryn was one who had been listening, and through this screech and the accompanying nudge Ira made against his mind he understood that she had found what they sought. The Angel'ohim quickened his gait. He wanted to be done with this silly errand and back to potentially saving Enthesia. |

"But.. They.." As her just words shook his heart, he had finally realized WHY he had done this to the humans. No, not to protect them. Not to keep them away from the vampires and druids. No, he did it because he was enraged at the fact that humans have taken advantage of the woman that he loves. His breathe started shaking as he placed his hand over his heart. "I- I'm sorry.. I can.. Maybe.. But.. they hurt you..." He looked down and stopped breathing, but he was still shaking due to the guilt. The screech of the bird actually made him jump. He gasped and looked up to see a bird circling their position. Nexus had heard of birds that circle over dying prey, but this bird looked different. Then Nexus remembered that some Mercenaries carried birds as companions so that they can track their own prey. Nexus's panic hightened as he started breathing faster. He felt as if the forest was closing in on himself. He fell on his knees as he felt like he began hearing voices. A woman's voice. Echoeing "How could you?" He put his hands over his ears and crouched down. Then under his breathe he uttered "Mother.. Forgive me.." When he said this he slowly took his hands from his ears and there was utter silence, until the silence was broken by the crack of a twig. A loud twig. Nexus's head jerked that way as he slowly stood up, pulling out his black and silver blades. Edited by Nexus, Jun 28 2011, 10:19 PM.

Unsure if she could find it within herself to comfort him, though his shaking form inspired pity, Raksha took a step back. It had been a sudden drop into an emotion that she was unfamiliar with, with a man that she did not know well enough to see the shadows that were evident to her now. But what to do with him now? "Humans will require your death as payment for your slaughtering, my people will hardly be sympathetic, and I don't know how I feel just yet." There were so few options. She could either follow him into the forest and help him get away where something might trigger his rage and he would kill again, or she could leave him here to fend for himself and be caught which would result in his capture and death. Ears attuning to the forest around them, she waited for a sign of what was coming. That sign came in the form of a bird not native to there forests. It was the cry of a sea-bird, probably an osprey. Worry settled in the pit of her stomach, she was about to see the consequences of her actions and sympathy. Drawing Spirit of the Wood silently and calmly, she turned to face whoever was approaching. As prepared as she could be, she was ready to take responsibility for Nexus' actions, as all of this death was directly her fault. |

A twig crunched indignantly beneath Shadryn's boot as he stepped into the small clearing, a look of serene, implacable calm enveloping his countenance. A slight breeze had picked up, and plucked at the locks of Shadryn's long, unruly auburn hair that jutted out in odd directions. For a moment, the wing pulled his bangs to the side, revealing the legendary cross-shaped scar etched over his right eye, the one that many in Enthesia knew on sight as belonging to the once-hero, Kyros. It stood in stark contrast with the rest of his features, which were eerily handsome and angelically sculpted. It provided a hint of mortality, of humanity, as a reminder of Shadryn's true heritage. But for most, it inspired a dreadful terror that was, to some extent, highly justified. The Nephillim halted perhaps 20 paces from the couple, regarding them with an indecipherable look in his characteristic golden eyes. For those who knew of him, his identity would be relatively obvious. Though his wings were hidden as many Angeli tended to do while they walked the earth, they were extremely obvious to anyone with any magical talents. The wings were not visible in a physical sense, but they still radiated power and magical energies that were unmistakeable to those with senses beyond the natural. Even for a human, the scar on his face and the twin blades on his back were virtually unmistakeable--there was no one else who walked the earth (or flew in the sky) that carried such distinctive features. At first he did not speak, choosing instead to silently eye up the young man, who had instinctively stepped between him and the young girl--druid by the looks of her. He eyed the two swords in the man's hand not out of any kind of fear or apprehension, but rather as another feature of the scene that he was taking in. The young man seemed emotionally distressed at the moment, but the way he brandished those weapons made it clear that he intended to use them if needed. Such an observation hinted at the answer to the question drifting in the back of Shadryn's brain, and when he finally did speak, it was to voice this understanding. "So...you did it for the druid girl, did you not?" The look in Shadryn's eyes, now resting piercingly and inescapably on the young man's, left little doubt as to what he was referring to. His highly attuned hearing had picked up a bit of their hushed conversation, and the drawn swords only assured him of his assessment of the situation. The Nephillim took a few more slow steps, eyes remaining locked with those of the young man. The leaves above him happened to shift in such a way as to allow a pure beam of sunlight to strike Soltia's hilt over his right shoulder. At this, the pommel, which had been pulsating softly in the morning light, shone so brightly that it could have contained a tiny sun. "Because you love her? And the need to protect her justifies such actions. Am I right?" The way these questions were posed, they were not real questions at all. They were statements of reality, but they still demanded an answer. Shadryn's face was calm and his eyes were intimidating but far from fearsome. He did not appear violent, only that he was acquainting himself with the scenario as it stood. The Nephillim stood calmly and patiently, awaiting a response with attentive eyes. |

Nexus's hostile stance loosened. He felt as though he was being understood. As if he was trying to make his actions sound justified. He thought it could be a mental trap. After listening to his cold, easy words and assessing his figure, something wanted to distance himself from this man.. He felt something repelling him. However, for the sake of his love, he refueled his courage and got back into an agressive stance. "I love her, there is no doubt in that fact. I see you are very perceptive, and also enchanted in your appearance.. More ways than one." He leaned up and cocked his head to the side, taking a step back and spreading his arms in front of Raksha. "Raksha, leave me.. I'll see you again." He stood firm, and then put his arms down, walking towards the man about 7 paces and then stopping. "They took advantage of her.. Like they took advantage of me, when I was younger. Not quite the same way, but in their same prideful manner. The innocent should've heeded the warnings. I don't hate humans, I just can't tolerate them. Yes, I am human too. Trust me, I have trouble tolerating myself sometimes. When I was young my parents abandoned me to keep their fame and fortune. Fargus took me in.. He was a Dwarf Fighter. A great one. He is my true father. But, he was killed by humans." "Are you beginning to understand now? Stronferth is nothing but evil filth absorbed by their own hatred for themselves. I am different because... I.." He chuckles to himself. "I threw away my humanity. I apologize to the families I have broken and the sin that I have vanquished, I know it is not my place... If you truly seek justice. Allow me to exile myself from Stronferth, never to step foot in it's city walls again. Also, I will never harm it's people. This I swear by my life." Edited by Nexus, Jun 30 2011, 11:14 PM.

"Don't you dare tell me to leave," Raksha stated calmly. Stepping to the side to get a better look at the stranger and to get away from the shield of Nexus's arms, something in her was angry at his words. The newcomer was obviously not human. He walked with a grace and deliberate gait like none she had ever seen and he did not feel like any creature she had encountered before. "You," she called out to the newcomer when Nexus was finished rambling. "Hero. I am more than ready to take responsibility for his actions. I exposed a wound in my heart to him and he took it to mean that all humans must pay for a sin that they do not know they commit. The chain of events was set off by my decisions and I will own up to them." Stepping closer to the pair, who seemed to be polar opposites, the druid was determined. The stranger seemed all calm and serene, while Nexus looked stressed and agitated. I do not need to be protected, she thought to herself. I have never needed to be protected. I am a panther, I am strong because Luka saw what I needed and gave me the strength to never be weak or vulnerable again. |

Shadryn was silent as the grave, a rather indifferent expression on his face and swirling in his eyes, which rested firmly on those of the young man. He listened without saying a single word, though indeed everything the boy said was as inconsequential to him as the light breeze causing the tails of his scarves to flutter. The boy was quite long-winded, stammering out something of a novel in a seemingly desperate attempt to explain himself. However, there was nothing he said that really changed what Shadryn already understood of the situation. Upon seeing the human and druid and the way they interacted, he had quickly and easily determined basically what was going on. He was sure this was new to the young man. He was sure that the feelings flooding him and determining his actions were foreign to him, and thus he would feel like he had to explain it as best he could. What he didn’t understand was that unlike him, Shadryn was quite old. Millenia old, in fact. The feelings that were so new to the boy had been felt by Shadryn in multiple occasions, and he understood all-too well the drive to fight for them and how powerful that drive could be. There was a part of him that felt deep sympathy for the young man and what he had done, but that didn’t mean he could simply ignore the horrendous folly that it represented. Not to mention the consequences that had resulted from it. Noble of the girl to step in and try to assume blame for her lover’s actions, but Shadryn paid it no mind as he knew very well where blame was due. When at last he made any sort of a response whatsoever, it wasn’t even in words. His right hand suddenly darted skyward, going for Soltia’s pulsating hilt. There was a dazzling flare of light as the blade burst from its hilt, the legendary sword of the sun blazing to scintillating life in Shadryn’s hand with the scraping ring of a blade freed from perdition. In the process, the Nephillim bent his knees and then leapt to the attack, covering the distance between himself and the pair in an instant. Soltia came down diagonally from left to right in a smooth arc, leaving air that shimmered with heat in its wake. The suddenness of the attack would surely take them by surprise, but not nearly as much as where it was aimed. Soltia’s burning length was bound for Raksha’s right shoulder, entirely ignoring the man beside her. (OOC: Sorry for how long this took. It's been a complete mess here haha. I should be back on track now though.)) Edited by Shadryn Kyros Aurion, Jul 10 2011, 01:49 AM.

Nexus watches him leap to the air and descend with such power. He looks over to Raksha and gasps. He then bends his knees and jumps towards her, swiftly taking her arm and pulling her out of the way, he had just enough time to jump backwards and let his sword stab into the ground. His wilderness training truly paid off. If not for that, he would've been dead. He looked at Shadryn once more, knowing that He would not let them go in peace. He decided that if he were to die anyway, he may as well die fighting. Nexus took a step back, and threw his silver blade to the side. Knowing that he now had to fight with all of his power since he knew this would be his last battle. He remembered that there was one Secret Technique that Fargus taught him that could possibly get him out of this.. But now was not the time to use it.. No, right now Nexus thought it would be best to use his Adrenaline ability to get the upper hand in speed and power as well as reflexes. So he took a deep breathe and with a powerful yell released some of his walls so that he may use his second wind in addition to the wind he has now. Making him twice as fast as he is now, which is four times as fast as an average human. He then dashed at Shadryn with a taste of flesh. Lashing his blades like a hurricane at Shadryn's defense. Hoping that the Speed and Power and wear him down. ((Casted Speed [Effect: 3 posts])) Edited by Nexus, Jul 13 2011, 11:02 AM.

Raksha wished that Nexus had let the blade strike its target. She, more than anyone deserved to face the punishment as penance for her actions. It was noble and also foolish for Nexus to pull her out of the way, the price for his retribution was one she was willing to pay. Her life to save his, now that he understood how he had erred. She could see purpose glimmering in Nexus's eyes. He had it in his head that this would be a last stand, but neither of them knew what the stranger truly wanted. Something about the man's sword and air of ancient calm triggered a memory. There were a few stories of the human world told to Druid pups, one of which rose to the forefront of her mind. Stories of humans whose deeds were so valiant and heroic that they were granted eternity in the sky, a chance to return and continue their righteous wetwork. "Hero, I know what you are," she called out, hoping to stop Nexus from advancing to battle that would result in his death. Please, please, please, she begged in her mind. "You are not human. Not anymore. Nexus, he can kill you. You must stop." In the even that her words were not enough to call him off she braced Spirit of the Wood in her hand, ready to pounce with all the ferocity of a panther protecting her cub. |

The sudden attack, although seemingly unprovoked, served to elucidate a point. In order to do so, however, Shadryn carried through with his attack and sent the wicked, burning point of his legendary blade slicing through the air, searching for flesh to cauterize with its touch. Nexus was quick, actually quicker than Shadryn had expected. He managed to pull Raksha out of the way and then dive out of the path of the blade himself. Soltia whipped through only air, making the air shimmer with its scintillating passage. Shadryn followed through smoothly, removing his left hand from the hilt and letting Soltia finish his deadly slash hanging calmly at his side. Shadryn made no move to attack. Instead, he focused his attention on Nexus himself, who let out a ferocious yell and leapt to an offensive that he must have thought was in the defense of his beloved. Raksha called out to both of them, knowing intuitively that Shadryn was not human and begging Nexus, as was apparently the boy's name, to call off his assault. Nexus was not to be deterred, though, and thrust his twin blades in Shadryn's direction with a speed and ferocity that he had not outwardly displayed before. It actually reminded the Nephillim quite a bit of his own early days. What Nexus lacked in technique and precision he made up for in zeal and fury, and the Angel'ohim quickly found himself having to devote the majority of his attention to not getting maimed. Though Nexus clearly did not care, Raksha was indeed quite correct. For all but the most skilled and powerful beings in this world, to meet the legendary Kyros in combat was to not only ask, but beg for death. Shadryn was actually rather impressed. The boy was quite skilled for one so young. His hatred and rage was feeding him, making him powerful and giving him a speed that few humans could rival. However, that anger that gave him such strength also robbed him of reason and battle sense, and it was that weakness that Shadryn was exploiting. Though the boy’s eyes were focused on his, the Nephillim was not returning that gaze. His golden pools, still as calm as if they were carrying on a typical conversation, were carefully watching every way Nexus’ body turned, rippled, and swayed as he swung his blades from all directions. Any observer would think the strikes whipped around too quickly and sporadically to predict, but literally thousands of years of combat experience made Shadryn see the situation differently. His analytical talents saw a pattern in the blows, and used it against Nexus even with Soltia held nonchalantly by his side. The Nephillim ducked, twisted, and weaved so quickly that he was nearly a blur, avoiding each strike so narrowly that the blade nearly grazed his body. As he did so, he was forced to slowly retreat from the relentless assault. He simply moved back step by step, staying just clear of the whirling blades. He answered the heat of passion with calm, cool precision borne from endless practice. Though he wore no armor and neither raised Soltia nor drew Lunaras from his hip in his defense, Shadryn seemed inexplicably untouchable. It was clear, in that moment, how truly deserving of his legendary status he was. However, curiously, no matter how flawless his evasion was, he never lashed out in counterattack. There were many times when his scouring eyes spotted openings, lesions in the boy’s defenses in his furious disregard for personal safety. He never capitalized on them, never sought to harm the young man and instead just resigned himself to slowly retreating, bit by bit, before the whirlwind of slashes that he was so carefully avoiding. And as he slowly but steadily stepped back, he spoke in the same tranquil and halcyon tone as he had upon approach. ”So furiously you fight when you have a lot to lose. With something so important to protect, dying seems such a trivial cost, does it not?” Through all of this, Shadryn still managed to keep an eye on Raksha. Although Nexus clearly had completely disregarded all sense of self-preservation, Shadryn had not and still kept his senses properly alert in case the druid decided to try anything wily.
