The Ass-Hatter

Matilde let off on her easy, for whatever he reason was. She was an odd sort. Anubis merely smiled as Selena walked and sat opposite him, back to the door. Matilde disappeared back into the kitchen, probably to start up the oven. The porcelain faced girl arrived again with a tray, carrying two drinks in crystalline glasses. She stopped at the table and floated the drinks down in front of their rightful owners.

"Please, allow me to get you anything should you need it. Just a thought away." She disappeared once again into the back, bringing the tray with her, leaving Selena and Anubis alone in the large, spacious room. It was a grand piece of magic. It distorted reality and space, allowing the area inside of the building they were in to be three times it's physical size. Of course, walking outside was always and adventure because traversing through the riff, or the edge of the reality distortion, was always a rough process. It was generally called the bends, because reality would distort and bow out briefly and your body would resist physical laws, if only for about four seconds. People have been known to spontaneously combust and teleport. Or just be crushed into smithereens.

Using the same magic he had used to communicate with Selena before, he called out for the waitress and ordered an appetizer of just some sort of meat, cooked medium rare. She consented back mentally and went to work at which point Anubis turned his attention to Selena.

"So, now that we're in a private place, why don't we start over from the point after we exchanged pleasantries."
He squeezed the lemon into his water and dropped it in after he was done, proceeding to push it down with his spoon and stir it in. "Why are you here, in this city? Don't you have a pack, or at least parents that you should be with?"

He took a sip from his glass, waiting for her answer.

Selena would feel unease as she sat in the room. She could tell it was laced with magic, something that made this Lycan wary. The only types of attacks her body could not withstand in both wolf and human forms was the ones of magic, and since she wasn't capable of any herself it was something to be feared. As the drinks came she would eye hers for a while, before taking a sip...

...And almost spitting out the miniscule amount of liquid that had reached her mouth. His question startled her, she did not want anyone to know she was banished, an outcast. but if she did not answer he would pry further. "I already told you, I needed a change of scenery and yes I do have a Pack and I would really appreciate it if you did not pry any further on that subject."

He remained stoically silent. Thinking in reverse, he was sort of wishing he had just continued on the path that he knew. He kept his stupid grin stretched up his face, and took sip of his water. The lemon was sweet and tart, giving the water a fantastic flavor. He stuck his finger in the water, extracting a small amount and letting it drip onto the table. From there, he set about to manipulating the small droplets of water, making the race around the table. It was amusing for a bit. Eventually, he made them air borne and their flights were cut short as they crashed into water and rejoined the collective once more.

The porcelain faced girl came back out, a tray in hand, levitating just a few inches off of her spread hand. A plate of assorted vegetable, bread and a bit of cheese floated down, along with a dish of meat that was cooked but still very much bloody.

"The strap is screaming, as you requested." The girls voice was pleasing to the ear, an even, high tone.

"Thank you darling. We'll order as soon as we can get our hands on some menus."

"Of course." The waitress disappeared once more and as she exited, two menus floated over to the table and rested themselves in front of each patron. Anubis, only mildly noticing the appearance of the menus, plucked a grape from the bunch and popped it into his mouth. He savored the flavor and washed it down with more of that water.

"Delicious stuff. The meat is for you. I'm not much of a carnivore myself." He ate another grape, this one sweeter than the last, before, once more, trying to speak to the subject of interest.

"Why not tell me? What have you to loose? Its not like I'm going to judge you or anything. Were they captured, killed, run off, scattered or what? It's not every day you get to meet a lycanthrope in these parts. I have an insatiable desire for knowledge about everything. If you will not tell me about your own personal pack, could you at least shed light on how the hierarchy is organized and how you work together as a society?" He paused and drank once more, a shallow sip.

"If you were not worth the time, I would never have bothered stopping you."

Loneliness never fades away...

As pleasing as the woman's voice sounded to the man, for Selena with her sensitive hearing, it sounded very much like a screech to her, it took willpower not to let her hand fly up to protect her ears from the horrible sound. She stared upon the food placed in front of her, unsure which was hers to eat and which was for the strange man, so the Lycan sat there staring at the display until he finally gave the indication that the meat was hers.

The slight distaste was evident upon her facial features, though Selena was quite a meat lover, it was too bloody and uncooked to her taste, but as one who had to eat the less fatty, tasty meats when she was a runt amongst the Pack and had to go with raw meat a few times after her banishment, she did not complain and gorged upon it. The Lycan let out a grimace at his intrusive questions, though she hesitated at the last question, at least it would stop him from prying from her personal matters. "I am not worth anyone's time. A Lycan Pack is very much like a wolf Pack, the is the Alpha, the leaders, the Betas, the second-in-command, the Deltas, the third-in-command, the Subordinates, who submit to the Alphas and take on several roles of the Packs, the Pups, self explanatory and the Omegas, the scapegoats. That's all you need to know."
