ugh someone on my facebook put up a status that was "sure glad this holiday isn't about atonement or starvation!"

I'm sorry but what the fuck? I mean yeah, this person's a hipster so automatically doesn't like popular things such as holidays, but at this point in the progression of thanksgiving as a holiday, the whole origin myth behind the holiday really is regarded as just that - a myth. What matters is the holiday itself, and the general good feeling that comes from seeing family, or splurging and eating large amounts of good food.

thanks for getting my holiday off to a bad start, hipster cunt.
lol @ twat trying to create waves just because he can.

picking up GT 5, going to class, then playing all evening long
Yeah, but what did you do on the second Monday in October?
Why I went straight to my aunt's place from our weekend vacation at our resort and spent thanksgiving there. We had a great traditional thanksgiving meal. It was delicious as always and I had seconds and thirds as well.
What is a traditional Thanksgiving meal for you canucks? You do turkey just like your southern neighbours, or is it more Canadian, like stuffed moose and fried hockey pucks?

Traditional turkey with stuffing etc. Though we do play hockey in our backyards instead of football, amazingly on ice skates as well!

Oh men, we just had Thanksgiving lunch at work (gotta love having so many expat yanks here). Two big ass turkeys, about 20 different side dishes and probably about 8 different deserts. And alcohol. I love working here.
