At the perfumed arcade known as the Emporium, Governor-Mayor Lanod Neff rubs shoulders with the common laborers awaiting an appointment in the Veiled Corridor. IN adjoining antechamber, snakes and exotic dancers gyre to a sonorous weave of cymbals and seductive pipes. A floor below, a gaggle of grasping miners presses against a windowed door of a darkened cell, impatient for a glimpse of a two-headed calf. Out in the street, a gang of rowdies screams obscenities at a crumpled halfling , kicking it as if scrambling for a ball. Their drunken laughter echoes off shuttered windows and bolted doors. IN a tower-flanked fortress across the shadowy square, filthy men with nothing to lose shout hymns to St. Cuthbert, clutching to their idealism and principles like cornered animals. Their wild-eyed chief minister smiles as he draws a cat-o-nine-tails across his bare back, awash in their adulation and spirit of his god. But it's just another night in Diamond Lake. Diamond Lake nestles in the rocky crags of the Cairn Hills, three days east of the Free City of Greyhawk to which it is subject. Iron and silver from Diamond Lake's mines fuel the capital's markets and supports its soldiers and nobles with raw materials necessary for weapons and finery. This trade draws hundreds of skilled and unskilled laborers and artisans, all hoping to strike it rich. In ages past Diamond lake boasted an export more valuable than any metal in the form of treasure liberated from the numerous tombs crowding the hills around the town. But this was long ago, today only a few treasure hunters pass through Diamond Lake and leave with little more than a wall rubbing or ancient tool fragment. [Enter PC] |

Tyronious walks into the settlement, weary from his travels and knowing he will find ways to perform good deeds in the area. After all, Diamond Lake had its rumors, and just a glance could say that many of them were true. The hellbred did nothing to cover his demonic features. He was still, after all, a man. A man who would bring darkness to light, and in the end, hopefully, save his own soul. He had a long way to go. Tyronious came upon a crowd, screaming and yelling, and beating the living shit out of a halfling, who could obviously not defend himself by any means. There could be no paladin in the realm who would abide such a travesty. "I beseech you all to cease and desist this terrible action!" calls out the cursed paladin. "I know not what crimes this one has committed to anger you all thusly, but this is not the way to salvation! Gaze upon one who knows the path to eternal torment and know I speak only the truth!" [Diplomacy check, I'll take a 10 rather than roll. Coding is still a little whack anyway, so it's probably better. :p ] |

Without looking the leader of the group growls "Get lost you no good holy man, unless you wish to join this midget on the ground." The other get up and look at Tyronious, at the first they have a arrogant smirk on their face but this soon turns to complete and utter terror. They start to stammer "H h hhhey b b bbbboss, I think you better cut that out." Angry now the boss of the group gets up "What is it you dope!" as his gaze meets Tyronious "What in the nine hells is going on here," the leader did now starting to panic. Holding his ground while scanning the area around him as if looking for the quickest retreat, "Who or what are you demon!? And what do you want with us!" |

Holding his ground, Tyronious shows no emotion. Subtly, he decides to scan the crowd for evil, guided by the light and power of the divine. He doubted he would find anybody truly evil in their ranks; these men appeared to be nothing more than brutes and bullies, who were rarely evil, but instead misguided. Even if he did find one who could truly be called 'evil' amongst them, there were still the laws of the city to uphold. Blatant murder in the streets was never a good thing. "You mention the Nine Hells, and indeed you should be chilled to the bone with fear! I was a tormented soul, stricken by evil who plagued this land! The soulless masters of the Lower Planes stole from me that of which only the divine could take back! Cease now and you can seek forgiveness! Repent! Atonement! Should you continue along your path, I will have no mercy in sending you to meet your new masters in the fires below..." [Intimidate check, d20 plus 6 modifier] Dice Roll(s)

Sensing truth and this malformed mans words the ruffian’s terror becomes to much for them to handle, running away as fast as their legs can carry them. Screaming at the top of their lungs "Hell has come for us, run for your lives!" A few curious people peek out of their homes to see this so called agent of hell. With the ruffians running away the Halfling to attempts to wriggle away in his battered and bruised state fearing for his very life lest this be death himself coming to claim his poor soul. Realizing that he was too beat-up to move at any significant rate the Halfling proceeded to curl up in ball in a pitiful attempt at self-defense. |

A Hot Spring & Hot Sake - That's Good Enough For Me

Panian had been watching the horrible scene from the shadows, doing much as he always did - simply just observing. While many would criticize asking why an one person would simply watch such a scene without acting, for Panian it was just his nature. As a Mongrelfolk he always spent his time either watching or mimicking, always trying to play himself off as someone or something else; however, things had changed as of late - the still growing man had only just recently found his way into Diamond Lake thus it was only natural that he lurk about. All and all he had spent several minutes just watching the gang of men relentlessly beat the poor halfling - from the event what Panian could tell halflings weren't very accepted around these parts. He duly noted that he would have to push himself off as some other race and also to avoid the wrath of any drukards of the part - but again things quickly changed... Almost as if out of the same darkness that stretched beyond and odd looking creature strut forth furiously demanding the hooligans stop. Curiously Panian inched forward, trying to get a better look at the man only to behold his hellish physique. His brilliantly green eyes lit up taking everything in as best he could and thus he continued to watch the happenings. Quickly it seemed the drunk gang realized that he was no mere human, or other common breed but in fact something much more intimidating; had Panian been with the unlucky bunch he assumed he too would have felt the same panicked fear, fortunately that was not the case and thus he decided to take action... Silently he moved out from the shadows, half hunching to hide his appearance behind his hood and slowly walked up to the crumpled halfling and the demonic figure... ((Erm not sure if a Hide check is needed, but I'd like to roll a Move Silent Check I guess against Jeff? or however that's done First one is Hide Roll, Second will be Move Silent )) Dice Roll(s)

Tyronious, oblivious the the man skulking within the shadows, approaches the thrashed figure of the halfling. Kneeling down, he then does something he is rarely caught doing: he smiles. Then, he reaches out with his right hand. "A valiant servant of Heironeous I am. Tyronious the Blackened is my chosen name, and I shall not harm you, little one. My Hellish disfigurement is merely a mark left upon me by the lords of Hell. Beyond my appearance, there is nothing demonic. A paladin's code does not allow for such things." |

The Halfling seemingly ignores the demonic figure, muttering, "I will not be tricked by your lies servant of hell." Saying it more so to try and convince himself than to respond. Slowly bleeding from his forehead where one of the ruffians had delivered a severe blow. Shortly after finishing his sentence the Halfling passed out in the street. Finally the Mongrelfolk who had been crouched very lowly nearby popped out from the shadows making himself known. "A pity that many so quickly blow one off simply on appearance... Twas a good deed of you to intervene like that, I don't suppose your from around here either, eh fiend?" It wasn't a jab at the odd fellow, twas more of a description of his features - after all most everything about him seemed just as hellish as a pit fiend or fiend of any kind as had been described in tales of hell to the mongrel; either way he knew what it was like to be discriminated against so easily on just his looks. At the same times he kept a watchful eye and ear for anything that might happen... (( Spot then Listen )) Dice Roll(s)

"Hmm? A rather tall halfling, are you not? Yes, I suppose it was a good deed, but nowhere near good enough. At times I fear there is no deed good enough for me..." Tyronious trails off after spotting the mongrel, the nature of his existence, and the likelihood of what his after-existence would be, getting the better of him. Still, his rigid discipline forced him back into reality. [Listen - 9, spot - 19] [Result of spot check edit] "Speaking of fear, I fear this does not bode well for me, nor for you, tall-halfling fellow, for being with me now," Tyronious says, catching sight of one of the previous bullies approaching once more. This time, instead of an entourage of ruffians, he held in tow four city guardsmen. You may still run or hide to protect your name if you wish, but I shall remain to speak to the guards." Panian's ears tingled as the rushing footsteps of several men seemed to echo down the ally. Apparently the demon-like man whom he had just met was able to see them which made things quite complicated. He didn't want this kind of attention, at least not yet and figured the man's suggestion to slip back into the shadows would be a good idea. "Indeed, indeed -- I hear them coming. I'll bid my time in the shadows, though I have faith that nothing will happen to you - after all you did just save the poor halfling..." In a quick hustle he twirled around and attempted to slink back into the dark against the nearby wall so he could still watch... As the guards rush towards Tyronious, Panian and the Halfling one of them notices Panian as he attempts to meld with the darkness. "Halt agent of despair! Unless you wish to be killed!" barked the guardsmen who had seen Panian. As them men closed in they had their swords drawn in case they needed to vanquish the foul demon spawn the stood before them. "Back away from the Halfling, you will clam no souls tonight." Growled what appeared to be the captain of the guardsmen. "You will come quietly with me, the both of you if value your life," he spat as if something in the air had left a bad taste in his mouth. Now with swords pointed at Tyronious as one man went to bind his hands. Another man went to apprehend Panian at the same time. While this was happening the ruffian continued to stand his distance while shouting curse words at Tyronious. Edited by Neragith, Oct 18 2009, 04:31 AM.

"I am not here to claim souls, but to free them," Tyronious says, holding his hands out with no sign of resisting arrest. "My name is Tyronious, and I am a paladin of Heironeous. The man who has summoned you was assaulting this injured halfling with a gang, and I revealed to them what such a path holds for their souls, just as I had once walked. I am a man, like you, but evil's claim has twisted my appearance." |

Panian moved forward, pushing aside the arms that went to grab him. Dwarven - "Get yer hand off me. I've done nothing but hide! I mean who wouldn't - look at the guy!" He pointed to Tyronious and continued speaking in Dwarven. "What he says is truthful though, these worthless lowlifes were beating that poor halfling near to death!" The Mongrel continued to hide his face under his hood, lowering his gaze to the ground - there was no need or want to anyway... |

Grim was tired; he had been running the whole time far from that burning camp. Confident that nobody had followed - or even known anything, to say the least - he finally caught his breath and looked ahead. Diamond Lake this was. He had no idea the significance of it; as he had, but a mere day ago, been a slave. And Grim was real tired. None the less he resorted to walking in. Nobody would recognize him as a slave wearing all that armour and weapons, right? He came upon a halfling that was beatten and bruised, lying on the ground, a demonic looking man being arrested, and a half-... what? Was that a short and ugly-as-fuck human? No...? A... ... something... that was resisting arrest. The... sentient - Grim figured he'd identify him as - then yelled in dwarven. The Guards looked at eachother; clearly not understanding what he had meant. But since Grim was often used in Mining Slavery, he sometimes worked for or alongside dwarves and managed to pick up their language. Figuring that he might as well do something nice, he approached the scene. "Wait," Grim said, "He says that he was just frightened of that man's appearance, but the man himself was just helping the halfling; apparantly someone inflicted those harsh injuries on the creautre." |
