I prefer my original characters normally BUT if I like a canon character and I prefer playing it to my originals. It really depends on my mood at the time I guess.

I always preferr custom. Cause with a cannon if that character doesn't suit you as yourself then your chanign the way you are. Though when you make a custom you generally create it to something that suits you and its easier to flow with. So custom all the way for Tam

I don't mind any, really. By playing original characters, I create my own sense of being and live the art of my own creation, bu when playing canon characters I may be forced to think in ways I wouldn't think for something of my own creation, so that helps expand and better myself in some ways.

If feel the same way. Like, with a custom you can make it whatever you want, but with a canon you must follow a certain line. However, in some cases, you know how a canon would react, or what he'd do next, while with a custom you may find yourself uncertain of what to do next... right? Even customs have a personality he must follow... |

I like both but I like custom a little better. Just a little. I find it easier to roleplay cause is flow better and I can do almost anything I want with that character. But cannon is good too. ^^ |

But you still have a base personality you must follow... thus, the discussion. :3 Like, even though it's a custom, I can't make him flip the switch over nothing. Like, from one moment to the other, have a good guy start butchering people or a bad guy turning good as he sees fit... Not only that, little things too. Ex: There was this friend of mine who had an Arrancar that was ice cold. He had totally no feelings. He wasn't loyal to Aizen, being an "on-the-run" Arrancar, but he hated shinigamis. However, one day, he fell in love... for a shinigami! So, ok, it's a custom and totally up to the player how he develops, but it was just a too sudden change of personality. And to others, he kept playing his Arrancar how it was, just changed around that shinigami... I understand that romance is a nice thing to RP, but maybe that was just a bit too much, no? |

Canon characters: More fun to molest and violate and stuff because there are already predicted responses, and you can't wiggle out of them with some surprise profile change. Plus there is tons of rule34 out there, so there is little left to the imagination. Original characters: Not as fun per se, because people can enact surprise changes and ret-cons to avoid your advances. On the PLUS side, and this is a pretty huge plus side mind you, people often model these characters after themselves in one way or other, so you basically get to molest their souls via writing, which is totally awesome and a huge turn-on. That's my 2 cents. |

To be honest, I previously enjoyed playing Canons highly, disliked creating and playing originals, mainly because canons always seemed to take a higher priority then originals. But lately, I've seen a slightly... Hesitation to apply for a canon, even if it's one I very much like, though there aren't many. But there are some certain characters I'd be a fool to let go. Still, I'd say Originals. For now. >> |

Definitely going to go with Originals. My original are fleshed out before I even write a word about them, so I get the best of both worlds. I don't have to RP as someone completely strange to me, because I know these guys inside and out. I also get to experience my character's personality. I am usually very hesitant to RP a Canon character, because I just don't know them well enough. Heck, I can tell you whether such-and-such of my characters had chicken pox or not, and how his parents reacted to it. I can't do that with Canon material. I'm not sure if I'm unique in this or not, but I don't make up my characters, they kinda just pop into being in my head and say 'I wanna be in this one! Put me in there!' and I oblige. It makes for an interesting experience alright. Edited by Lithas, May 12 2009, 05:36 AM.

I prefer an original character. Canon characters require too much mind reading and change in yourself before you are actually able to portray them correctly. It takes adjusting and other things that aren't necessary to simply role playing a character. Role playing behind an original character that you've made is much easier, because you put some of yourself into that character, and place some of your traits and personalities in them, basically making a text-based version of yourself. Not everything about that character will be you of course, since you're free to make them look like, act like, or be like whatever you want, but you can't escape the fact that whenever you make a character, there's some part of you in them, whether your character's sex matches your own or not, some of their characteristics will match your own, and you'll portray them according to your mood, at the time of posting. This is all opinionated, as you all know, so feel free to disagree. |

I'd prefer originals, lately. But sometimes canons are specifically amusing, depends on who's who and what genre/anime it in - not to mention whether there good for me too. D: Originals. |
