Scoffing at the idea that he worried too much (it was kind of in his job description), Brennen drove in silence all the way back to Jaclyn's apartment/mansion-esque penthouse, hoping she was getting some much needed sleep. When he had shut off the engine in front of her building, he looked over at her and couldn't tell if she was conscious or not. "Jac? Jackie, honey, are you awake?" he asked softly, wondering if he'd have to carry her or not. |

The voice was soft, but it was enough to pull Jac out of her fitful slumber. She woke with a grimace on her face; nightmares had invaded her dreams, as they usually did when something was pressing on her mind. The grimace was because she expected to sleep terribly that night. She looked over at Brennen, who was watching her carefully, and then out the windshield, where her penthouse stood looming over her. "Yeah, I'm awake..." she said. Her voice was rough and there was a worried edge to it. She realized she was fearful of the night ahead, and she worked to take it out of her voice. "Are you coming up?" she asked, tiredly brushing a but of hair behind her ear. |

"Are you kidding? You're going to fall over if I don't. That blizzard was a bad idea, Jac Frost." With a grin, Brennen reached into the car and scooped Jackie out. When he touched her, he grimaced a bit as some images flooded his mind -- once he had a second to sort them through, he realized that they had an odd flavor to them, like they weren't quite real. Putting that together with the tinest quaver in her voice when she'd answered and he figured it out. Nightmares. She was afraid and didn't want to admit it. After all, it had been a hellish night. Pun intended. Carefully walking up to the building, he glanced down cheerfully at Jackie, not wanting her to lose any pride because he was helping. "Do you have a key? I get the feeling picking your fancy little lock doohickeys could get interesting." |

"Clever," Jac grinned at Brennen's Jac Frost joke. She allowed him to pick her up; she was being strangely uncharacteristic tonight. Usually she'd fight him on things like this, insisting she would be fine and everything, but she didn't have the energy tonight. As Brennen picked her up, she sensed him using his talents again. Again; she usually would've pressed him on the subject, but now? Not so much. Jac reached to her back pocket and held out the keys to him. She held them by one electronic key that read Penthouse. "My fancy little lock doohickeys are for your safety, Mr. Carmichael," she grinned gamely. |

"I realize that. Hence why I'm not giving you hell about it," Brennen said simply. He glanced down at the key. "Penthouse, huh? Nice. Perfect place for the Queen Bee." He headed up into the building and got into the elevator. "I assume the penthouse is the top floor, correct?" |

Jac nodded. "You assume correctly. I think you'd like the penthouse; classy, extravagant... very me," she said, yawning. She smiled at the receptionist behind the desk, who was gawking at her in a strange way. She shot her a neighborly sort of wave and a grin, and then returned her attention to Brennen. "Thanks for this, again," she said to him. |

"Whoa, is that chick on your pay roll? Because she just gave me a really mean face," Brennen whispered, sticking out his lip. "And it's no problem. Aside from the pissy receptionist, I can't say I'm going to complain about having a pretty girl in my arms." He slipped into the elevator and pushed the right buttons and the elevator shot straight up. "You get to ride a roller coaster daily? Dang, Emeralds, you're lucky. I love roller coasters. You?" |

Jac grinned. "Please don't mind Julia," she said. "She's not used to me having visitors. Especially male ones. Especailly male ones that are carrying me," Jac smiled. "Jules has seen me totally bloodied up, frsuterated, ecstatic, drunk, but never with a guy." Jac laughed. "Roller coasters... eh," she sighed. "Occasionaly, but I was always more of a waterpark kind of girl," she smiled. |

"Is that your subtle way of telling me you're not a player?" he asked, wiggling his eyebrows. "Don't worry, Jac. I never thought you were like that. And I don't mind Julia. She looks like a tough chick, but somebody that once she likes you, nobody touches you. Am I right? I guess I could always just go up and shake her hand and find out for sure..." he mused. "Water parks are awesome, too. Still a bit more of a roller coaster guy, but I'm a fish. Love the water." The elevator beeped and the doors opened. "Here we are. Home sweet home." He unlocked the door and carried her in, setting her down on a convenient couch. "You hungry? Want me to fix you something? I make a mean frozen pizza." |

"Less subtle than subtle, clearly," Jac smiled. She laughed at Brennen's impression of her receptionist. "I guess you could say that, but she's organized, reliable, and doesn't think to ask my how the hell I got myself cut up again." Jac gestured to the cushion beside her after Brennen set her on her couch and said, "Take a load off, Brenn. I'm fine, as much as a frozen pizza tempts me. However, I could go for a beer." In a milisecond, Jac was standing beside her fridge, and in the next she was sitting back on her couch, groaning and sipping a cold beer. "Sometimes that's handy, but it's not very comfortable." |
