Ryder wasn't sure how to feel about going to Emerald's Institute. On the one hand she got to be trained to be a hunter, on the other it meant that her father felt that she wasn't good enough. Shaking her head, Ryder continued down the hall. She was just glad that he wasn't shipping her off to go live with some relatives. Of course if he did that she would just find her own case and go hunting by herself. Despite his beliefs she thought she could manage on her own.

She was brought out of her musing as she found the office door. She knocked a couple of times, before opening the door and stepping in. "Mrs. Emeralds? I'm Ryder Bradley." She offered the other woman and smoothed down the blue dress. She wanted to make a good first impression. This school was everything she dreamed of. Her whole life centered around being a hunter.

Jackie was working through a vicious kickboxing session when someone knocked on her door again. Wearing a tight camosole and army-printed baggy pants, she wasn't exactly presentable. Her mahoghany hair was whipped up in a messy haphazard bun.
Jackie looked around when her door opened and a young woman walked through the doorframe.

Panting, she turned to face Ryder Bradley, and she arranged a friendly smile on her face. "Hello, Ryder. Miss Emeralds, actually," she corrected with a laugh. "And please, call me Jac," she insisted. "Can I help you?"

Ryder returned the smile with one of her own. She didn't understand her nervousness, she was always good with people. Her empathy and telepathy helped her understand what they wanted and she worked with that. It was what made her both a good researcher and good at gathering information, but standing in front of this woman she was nervous.

There was nothing she could do about any of it and she pushed a strand of hair behind her ear to forget about it. "Jac, I just arrived. I'm a new student and wanted to introduce myself." Noticing how Jac was dressed she bit her lip. "I'm not interrupting anything, am I?"

Jackie shook her head before Ryder finished her sentence. "No, you haven't really interrupted. Kickboxing," she said with a grin, gesturing to the punching bag hanging from a hook on her ceiling. "I can always continue later," she said, wiping her somewhat sweaty hands on her army pants and smiling again.

"Ah, new student. Well it's fantastic to meet you! I'm Jaclyn Emeralds, as you know, and if you need any help settling in, I'd be glad to lend a hand."

Just then, Jac felt something coming off of Ryder and she took a moment to explore what she was sensing furthur. Some kind of extra power was coming from Ryder, as if she was using a special ability right now, but at the back of her mind. Jac tilted her head in confusion and tried to mimic it as best she could, and she felt two separate abilities, but they weren't being used strongly enough yet for her to mimic. Inclining her head just slightly in frusteration, she looked back at Ryder and grinned, wondering if the woman had seen the flash of intuition of her facial features.

"I think I have everything. My dad taught me to pack light. It will actually be nice to have a place to put things." She knew it wasn't really hers, but she had never had a place that she could call her own. Living out of a suitcase sucked, especially when she was a girl and still liked to get pretty every once in a while. Her dad had never understood that desire and her mom had left when she was a child. There was no other woman in Ryder's life to enjoy being a girl with.

Ryder watched the different emotions play across Jac's face and wondered what she was thinking. She could use her gifts and find out, but she didn't want to be that intrusive right off, there were easy ways to find information. "What? You look like you've just discovered something interesting."

Jackie laughed and said, "Yeah, I know the feeling. Your dorm should already be set up, here's the key," Jackie said, tossing an electronic key at Ryder from her insanely massive keychain.

Jac waited to answer Ryder's question for a minute. She was constructing a profile of her abilities. There were two, one that was purely mental and one that had a phsyical component. Jac delved deeper, using her power sensing to figure out what exactly there were. Finally she came to a conclusion; empathy and telepathy. Jac nodded. "I discovered something very interesting. You're a talented young woman, Ryder," she said simply.

Ryder caught the key easily and pulled out the rest of her keys. Slipping the key on the ring she turned her attention back to Jac. Normally she didn't mind vague answers. They gave her something to do, a way to keep her mind sharp and busy. It didn't count when the answers were about her. She knew she was talented in more than one way.

Hunting wasn't always black and white. Sometimes the monster weren't bad guys. Unfortunately not all hunters saw it that way. And with those who didn't she was normally on the hunted list. A danger to others. It kept her quiet about her powers and cautious around those who learned about them.

"In a lot of ways. In what way do you mean and how did you find out?" She couldn't think of anything else she might be talented in, not that would be know at least. But she wanted to know more than anything how Jac found out.

Jackie smiled reassuringly at Ryder. She knew how she was feeling. Cautious, and probably a little afraid. Most psychics weren't comfortable about speaking about their abilities; they thought it put a target on their backs. And normally it did, but not here, not for Jac.

"It's okay, Ryder. I'm quite talented as well," she said, smiling.

Ryder looked at her in surprise. She could tell the sincerity in her words. The best thing about being an empath, it was almost virtually impossible to lie to her. She had met a few people who could, but most didn't have the talent for it. Feeling the sincerity in her words she changed from the shocked expression to a curious smile. "What can you do?" Her curiosity had always gotten the better of her.

Jac grinned at the question. "Oh, I can do a lot of things, Ryder," she said with a wicked smile. In a moment, a thunderstorm began to rumble outside, even though a second ago the sky was clear and blue. Jac made to take a step and appeared six meters in the opposite direction. She teleported back to standing in front of Ryder and smiled. Finally, she turned and walked through her desk, coming out the other side in perfect condition.

For a minute, Jac negated Ryder's powers just to show that she could, and then she allowed them to return to her. "I'm a mimic," she said with a smile.
