It's a firefox addon. If you don't know what it is, then you have nothing to worry about.
Please, read the Board Rules, ICU Rules, Chat Rules, & the FAQ before you do anything.

But it's now against DC rules. You AREN'T supposed to be using them anymore.

So.. I guess this means I can't post my dragons? I have four, what codes am I /supposed/ to use to post them? The four-didget tag? Spam my freewebs with all sorts of "click this link, click this one, too" nonsense? ._. I'm afraid I've missed the whole idea of not being allowed to do so. I understand the server lag, but how else are we supposed to get the clicks we need for our dragons?

So you're saying the only way to get clicks is to use snaplink? Uhm, no.

Doesn't matter right now anyways, the hatchery is banned, and may be permanently, we don't know. You'll just have to figure out what to do about views and clicks as I can't help you. I don't have mine listed anywhere. I plan if they get too low, ICU. Other then that. I have no idea what to do. *shrugs*

couldnt there be a thread where each user could have only 1 post to post there eggs/hatchling swhile the hatchery is down? that way the dragons can still get views. And no user can post twice only edit the post they have posted? The links for the full codes still work i believe using the 4 digit id is might what have gotten it banned

TJ could -eliminate- the server strain caused by mass-clicking.

Eliminate clicks as having any effect on dragon growth.

If he wanted to be nice, he could also reduce the number of views/unique views required for a dragon to grow.

He won't do that because, contrary to everyone who has been loudly proclaiming otherwise, it's not a 'free' site. We don't pay for it (except for those who choose to donate using the paypal button), but there are ads -everywhere-.

Eliminating his server strain would also eliminate most of his ad views.
Have you ever looked into the actual income a website gets from ads? It rarely ever pays even the cost of hosting. Plus, the ads are easy to get rid of -- just use mozilla firefox, and install the add-on "AdBlock". I never see a single ad on the dragoncave site.

Bitching about a free site having ads so that they can try and recoup _some_ of their costs is ridiculous, but not as ridiculous as griping about them wanting the people who use their free service to follow their rules. You don't have to click the ads. You don't have to even _see_ the ads, if you don't want to. They do not cost you anything. TJ made the game. He runs the server. Thus, he gets to make the rules. If you don't like it, set up your own site as competition and run it however you please, and see just how fast you go broke trying to keep up with the bandwidth and server strain demands _without_ having rules about things like snaplinks.

wee.zee's said this already: We don't want to risk getting the forums banned because then the ICU wouldn't work. It'd make the whole site pretty much useless except to talk on. =/ So I'm 'fraid the backup hatchery is out of the question for a while.

Well one upside to the hatchery being down is that I learned that my eggs will hatch with a lot less views/clicks than I thought :) I won't panic so much from now on about getting views.

This is going to make it awfully difficult for people to get their dragons to adulthood I think, because ultimately it's just going to mean that people stop clicking. Unless you have literally dozens and dozens of friends/relatives willing to click for you every day, it's not gonna happen - the big click-sharing sites will just shut down. I'm already struggling with my three current eggs/hatchies.

Clicking with snaplinks is doable, but clicking every single dragon of the thousands we have here one by one? No way - it would take days upon days just to click each one. :/

I can understand TJ's frustration but he's going to have to reduce the number of clicks needed to grow the dragons to compensate.

No he doesn't. It's his site, he can do what he wants.

But seriously, with a tabbed browser and a mouse that has the center wheel, you can click 100 eggs in about 5 minutes. You don't even need to look at the pages and afterwards, you can clear them all with the "clear all tabs" option.

But honesty, the Hatchery is closed...so no quota. If you're complaining about returning a service for a site that provides you a service for free, then leave.

My egg just hatched with only five clicks. It's really not hard to find five people to click on your egg for you, even without anyone using snaplinks.

I frankly do not know why people are making such a fuss about snaplinks.....it was never necessary to click every egg/hatchling when we did have the hatchery. We had well over 2000 members when it went down....none of my dragons had over 100 clicks and they all did fine. The quota, when it was established, worked out to about 15 a day....I managed nearly 1000 a week without snaplinks.
As far as having problems now, well, I do have to use three sites, and I don't get nearly as many clicks, but everything is still hatching/maturing right at the same mark. I would love to have the hatchery back: it would make things easier, but until then, there are other hatcheries to use.

no more use of snaplink, huh? well, i'm still gonna use it, but i'll respect your wishes. there are plenty of other sites where i've wanted to surf 3 or 4 links at once. but, as requested, i'll stop. i remember i used the snaplinks thing to get eggs one time, and i somehow went from 3 to 5 eggs *no i did not breed!!!* but yeah, that sounds fair, and i guess kinda makes sense. i've been on at 5 am my time, and it's said about 500 people are online.so yeah, i'll play by the rules and stick to the regular clickage, but i'm keeping snaplinks.

Nobody ever said you can't keep snaplinks. We just ask that you don't use them to click on the Dragon Cave adoptables since they are now against the rules.

BUMP! i hate double posting, but i have important news! i would like to say, there is a way to click dragons easily without having to go through the right click open in new tab/window process. no doubt most if not all of you have a mouse with a wheel in the centre for scrolling. well, if you click that wheel while highlighting an egg or dragon, it will open in a new tab. seeing as how you still have to do it individually, it's slower than snaplinks, but alot faster that normal!

Many people with tabbed browsers already know that, it has also been mentioned several times before. Some of which were from me.

My eggs still generally have 1500+ before they hatch... and I don't really *do* anything to make it happen. The ER is a really good thing. Let's keep it open. Explore other avenues of getting clicks. I don't have *any* problem whatever getting enough.

Before the Auto-Hatchery was created I sat here and clicked on every egg individually. Sure it was time consuming, but I never had trouble hatching my eggs, nor did I ever resent clicking on other people's eggs.
Do I have things I'd rather do? Yes. Would I prefer to take care of hundreds of eggs in just a few clicks? Sure! But the fact i s that this is a game, and no one is here out of obligation. I'm sure TJ could make adjustments when and if he wanted to in order to accommodate the new restrictions.
I'm sorry The Hatchery is closed. This site has the best click exchange, hands down. -_-

I don't have trouble with clicking the eggs either. And although I'm new at this game, my first eggs all had enough click and viewings and all came out.
