The DC terms and conditions can be found here. TJ has recently made an addition to them which may affect some users here.

Interactions with Others
"Posting" or using eggs, hatchlings, or dragons belonging to other users without first obtaining their consent is prohibited.

There are discussions on the matter here and here for those who are interested to know more.

I wondered if this wouldn't come out sooner or later... a lot of people will be upset over not being able to help their abandoned bred eggs... but rules are rules... :-/

:( But I don't want my grandkids to die!

OK after I read the first page of that first topic I guess I can understand. It's mainly to teach the owner how to hatch own their own?

Well, if you think of it in terms of a game... you're basically playing someone elses game for them... without asking.
Suppose they want to try and get a neglected out of certain egg. If other people are latching on to them and "helping" them get enough clicks and views to hatch safely... their plan is ruined.

See whilst I can see the logic. I also see the downside. Yes people should be allowed to play the game but I Imagine for breeders it will be hard having to leave eggs you've bred knowing they're not going to be cared for. Lets face it how many people will sign up to the game, get an egg then never play it again or hardly play it. Quite a few and those eggs & hatchlings will die. And now the breeders aren't even allowed to try and help out...hmmm not keen on the idea tbh.

It's been said if you have permission you can post the code. Now whilst this is good for some people..ie i've posted friends eggs on the ICU when they've been desperate before(and asked for help)..bred eggs again will suffer. As unless the egg was traded how will you know who the new owner is?

There's talk on the DC forum about maybe implimenting a pm system into the game itself, but alot are saying similar things have been suggested before and nothing has come of it.. so who knows.

Their not at the age of consent yet lol. Yeah I know that doesn't really apply, just thought it would be funny.

Maybe we can have a petition/list of people saying that they will give people consent for saving their eggs or something? Might sort of work.

Exactly. That's the only reason I've posted some of my dragons' eggs that I've found "in distress." It's discouraging, knowing that if your dragons mate and produce multiple eggs, you inevitably have to abandon all but one. Which means that the odds of the abandoned eggs dying are greatly increased in many cases. Since we have no clue who adopts these eggs, we can't even ask these people if we can post them for them. Seems cruel to me, even though in the end they are only pixels on a screen.

I'd like to see an exception made so a breeder can boost their abandoned, bred eggs if it's clear that the adopter hasn't a clue how to take care of them.

I haven't abandoned an egg yet, but I wouldn't want to see my virtual grandkids die of neglect. My first instinct is to say, "Let the adopter learn how to get their own clicks on their OTHER eggs, not the ones they got from MY dragons!" ;)

BTW... I don't really see how they can enforce that rule. If someone posts egg/hatchling code on Gaia, LJ, etc, then its views and clicks will be coming from a whole bunch of IPs. If the person who posted the eggs doesn't ID themselves clearly in their own post, it's not going to be as easy to track down as it'd be if some malicious idiot were trying to single-handedly view or click an egg/hatchling to death. (In which case, they deserve to be pelted with a lot more than TJ's stated weapon of moldy cheese <LOL!> -- my cats offer some litterbox contents to pelt the malicious idiots of the world with.)

I'll stick with posting the critters of a few people I know who are too young to sign up for LiveJournal and have asked me for help with their eggs. But you can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be monitoring the progress of any eggs I breed and need to abandon.

Well I guess I can't take care of my abandoneds anymore =( That also means now that we can only put our own in the ICU.

Wait wait wait.....I'm not understanding this at all. IS this new rule saying that we can't help out the eggs that we've recieved from the abandoned page? Or is just saying that we can't help out the eggs that we've abandoned? Because if it's the second one, then I have no problem with it...but the first one would be a slight problem...

It's the second one. I don't have a real problem with it, it's just the eggs that I've bred and been forced to abandon haven't been cared for so I post their codes around.

Oh, this is unfortunate.... I sometimes like to try to help some of my eggs siblings if they need a little boost. Can't do that anymore....

True... but we will be enforcing it here. ;) And I'll second that last bit... and I have 3 cats! :D

No, no... the rule states specifically: "Posting" or using eggs, hatchlings, or dragons belonging to other users without first obtaining their consent is prohibited. Once you grab an abandoned egg... it's yours. But once you abandon an egg... it's not yours anymore. :-/

I know that this new feature is upsetting to many... you can go to the DC Forum Suggestions and Requests and try and help find a more agreeable solution. In the meantime... I can only suggest that you might want to wait and do your breeding when you have someone prepared to take your abandoned eggs (see the Trading thread for details on how this is done). A tedious process to be sure, but the only way I can think of under the current system to "protect" your bred eggs... (legally, that is...)

Question for Bluedove!

Um, I've posted a couple of eggs here that I later abandoned as hatchlings once their gender was revealed (ie. splits and silvers). So then even though the hatchlings have new owners, their code is still posted at Egg Rescue HQ.

So basically, if we post the code to an egg here, but later decide to abandon it (for various reasons), should we notify you so that the egg's code can be removed?

No need to worry about those. You did own it when you posted it, so in my opinion, you didn't break the rule...

Plus tracking down all these would be even more work for the staff... and we're having enough problems getting the updates done in a timely manner with half of us away/ill/injured atm...

The only eggs I post here are from the 5 accounts that are listed in my signature. And since I created the accounts for the people they belong to I have their permission to post them. When I bred dragons from my oldest daughter's account she had too many eggs and so had to abandon them, and while I check up on their progress, I in no way interfere with the new owner or post those codes

Same here...the three accounts we have are the one for me and my two daughters. I will check up on the eggs that we've bred but *sigh* I let them die if the new owners don't take care of them. And they have died. But some of them have done excellently at the same time.
Please help our family's dragons grow and be loved!

This is probably gonna make me severely cut back on breeding. At least until SOME form of tracking down the egg/hatchling's scroll is found because this is enough to make me cry. Most of my breeding pairs have an adult that was given to me so have massive sentimental value and to see the eggs mistreated because of the rule yeah I can't bring myself to breed with that in place that pink I bred might be my last for quite a while

I'm not sure about the new rules as I'm fairly new to the cave still myself. I haven't bred much eggs either so I'm not to bothered about helping other eggs.
though I'm more concerned that if my adults don't get a view over a few weeks they will be deleted.
It just doesn't seem fair.
