ERHQ FAQ

Q: What is dragcave?
A: An online game of stealing/adopting dragon egg and hatchling graphics and then raising them, naming them and breeding them with other dragons.

Q: What is a dragon?
A: I'll let Wikipedia define dragon for you unless you can be more specific.

Q: How do you get ... dragon?
A: The same way you get all other eggs. By clicking on them during a drop at DragCave or in the abandoned cave. We can't tell you exactly how to get a specific dragon other then what is stated above.

Q: What is the maximum number of eggs/hatchlings that we can have at a time?
A: You can keep 4 eggs or hatchlings, but this can be changed by breeding. If you steal 4 eggs, you can't steal anymore, but if you have some adult dragons you can breed them and get one more egg.

You can have 3 eggs and 3 hatchlings (usually because your previous eggs have hatched) and still take another egg. Once you get 4 of either you can no longer take eggs/hatchlings, but you can still breed to get one more egg.
The theoretical spreads are:

5 eggs, 4 hatchlings (because you bred an egg)
4 eggs, 4 hatchlings
4 eggs, 5 hatchlings (because you had 5 eggs, 4 hatchlings and an egg hatched)

I know all are possible except the last because I have been in those situations. You are not able to have more than 5 eggs, if you have 5 eggs and try to breed you will automatically abandon any eggs produced.

If you have 5 eggs, or 5 or more hatchlings, you are scroll locked; that is to say, you cannot keep anymore bred eggs until your egg or hatchling count is less than 5, and you cannot take any new eggs from the cave or the abandoned page until your egg and hatchling count are both less than 3.

Q: How long will my egg/hatchling take to hatch/grow up?
A: This varies depending on the species. Essentially, it all depends on how many views, unique views and clicks they have as well as how much time they have left. A hatchling or egg won't grow up/hatch until after the 4 day mark (meaning they only have 3 days 23 hours left). NOTE: it is possible to have 0 clicks and your egg/hatchling will still hatch/grow up, but the clicks do help so they are worth getting.

Q: What is soft shell/hatchling sickness and how do I deal with it?
A: Egg soft shell and hatchling sickness is caused by abnormal conditions in the egg. There are two causes of disease:

- Having more clicks than unique views
- Getting too many views/unique views/clicks in a short period of time.

If you read the DC FAQ, you'll notice there's 3 types of soft shell sickness, but I believe the first one no longer exists. With that said, the first one on this list can be solved quite easily. The recommended suggestion is to remove the link part of the code and just post the image. I don't think this is one to worry about though as you're more likely to bump into the second one. This can also be solved easily since it only involves hiding the egg/hatchling until it goes away To hide your egg/hatchling go to 'Actions' and select 'Hide'. To unhide it, once again, go to 'Actions' and the only option there will be 'Unhide' so just select that one.

*Note: As of the Server Change early January, Eggs and Hatchlings may get softshell or sick after their first day in there stage. This means you now have to watch your dragons closely.

Q: What is the minimum requirement of views/clicks/unique views that are required to hatch an egg?
A: There is no set amount. Hatching is based on a ratio of clicks, views, unique views, and time, so there is no magic number that you must reach. It is entire possible for an egg to hatch with 0 clicks. This doesn't mean that clicks don't help your dragon, but they simply aren't necessary.

Q: What about a list of what the eggs look like and are called?
A: We can't do that, actually. According to TJ:
Sorry, but you must discover how to get a specific type of dragon on your own, as well as what type of dragon you have or how rare a certain type is. It ruins the surprise if you know exactly what you're getting when you get an egg, or exactly how to get a specific type of dragon.

For the curious, spending time clicking in the hatchery is the best way to learn about the different kinds of dragons, eggs and hatchlings.

Q: What dragons are rare?
A: Rares: Golds, Silvers, Papers, Dinos, Christmas, Chickens (although not actually a dragon), and Neglected (although you can't get a neglected dragon by clicking. A neglected is a regular dragon that becomes neglected because of a certain number of clicks/unique views and I for one have no idea how many)

Uncommon: Splits

Common: everything else

Q: Why is my scroll burned?
A: Your scroll becomes burned when your account has been banned. Accounts may be banned for a number of reasons, such as manually killing over 10 eggs or violating the site terms in any way.

Q: How/When should I post in the ICU?
A: The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is for your eggs or hatchlings that haven't hatched or grown up yet and have less than 3 days left. If your egg/hatchling has more than 3 days left (and we do check) it will not be added to the ICU, so don't try it. :P

Q: Can you only attempt to breed your dragons once? If breeding fails with a dragon, are you unable to breed that dragon with another ever again?
A: Dragons can only be bred once a week. So, if it fails ... well ... that sucks, you have to wait a week until you can try again. This depends though on the dragons. There are some that just won't breed with each other at all. For example, split dragons can only breed with other split dragons. It all depends on what sort of result you get. Out of what I understand if it says "The dragons refuse to go near each other." that means that those two particular dragons can't breed with each other (we aren't positive if that's they will NEVER breed, but It's been stated that it's true). If you get a message like "They don't seem very interested in each other" it is possible to breed them again it just didn't work that time.

Q: What is an alt? How do I get one?
A: An alt is an alternative look to the 'normal' (if you will) dragons, just that the sprite is different. Basically everything else is the same, like the description, what kind it is, etc. You can only get these alts from breeding. What are the chances of getting one? It's rare, but not impossible.

Q: Is there any difference between the two black alt hatchlings? They seem to grow into the same dragon, but have different hatchling sprites.
A: There is no difference other then the look, like you said, they grow into the same adult dragon.

Q: Are there any alt. skywing, alt. red etc.?
A: At the moment, no.

Q: Why cant we abandon some eggs soon after we get it? It says "you havent had the egg long enough to abandon it".
A: If you get them at the cave entrance you MUST keep them for 5 hours before you can abandon them, otherwise, you can abandon them immediately.

Q: How do I get my scoll into my signature? I've edited it and it's in my profile but it doesn't show up when I post.
A: Look in the top right corner of the corner of the site for "Preferences" and click on the "Change Signature" option.

Q: If I post my dragon's image in my signature, will it add views or only clicks? Because if it only adds clicks, then my egg could maybe get soft shell m right?
A: It will only get views and unique views. It doesn't get clicks unless someone clicks on it (assuming it's a link).

Q: How do I add my friends eggs or my grand eggs or hatchlings to the ICU without the "Get Code" information?
A: Click on the dragon's link and get the four digit code for the dragon:
Code:

http://dragcave.net/view/12aB
would be
12aB

The code are case sensitive and two dragons may be using the same combination of letters and numbers thus 12ab will not link you to 12aB.
It's important to note that you may only post 10 dragons a week in the ICU so if you're posting your friend's eggs and your grandeggs in the ICU we will not add your eggs in for you should you reach the limit and they need attention. Use your 10 egg spaces wisely.

Q: When I try to post my egg/hatchling to the Automated Hatchery I get ... error. What do I do? I don't want my eggs/hatchling to die!
A: PM Christian271 with whatever error it is that you're getting, and he should be able to help you.

Q: Whenever I try to click on an egg or hatchling in the automated hatchery, I get a message saying 'You are not signed in'. On the main page, it says that I am signed in. I have my eggs posted and they are gaining clicks, but I feel bad about not being able to return the favor. Any idea what's going on?
A: Check your cookie setting and make sure it's allowing cookies for the site.

Q:How do I use the Automated Hatchery?
A:
MistyDryad

When you click on the link for the Automated Hatchery, a new window will open and, after a moment or two, the Hatchery itself will load. You'll see blocks of eggs and hatchlings sorted by color.

Click the link 'Add your egg or hatchling here' and you'll see some instructions to follow.

Basically, when you view an egg or hatchling's page, you'll see that it has a unique four letter/number code at the end of its URL like this:

http://dragcave.net/viewdragon/XXXX where XXXX is the four digit code unique to your dragon.

Copy and paste this four digit code into the box 'Dragon ID' as requested and click 'Add'.

The Hatchery will automatically add your dragons into the main Hatchery.

To check, if you click 'View Hatchery' and hover your cursor over the last egg on the last page that's the color of your egg.

Just remember to click as many of the other eggs and hatchlings as possible to show your appreciation for the clicks your egg or hatchling will now get ;)

Q: How do I get to the Automated Hatchery?
A: Scroll down the board to the "Hatcheries" section. You will see a forum that says "Automated Hatchery". Click that and you'll be redirected to the Automated Hatchery.

Q: How do I delete an egg or hatchling from the Automated Hatchery?
A: You can't. The hatchery workers will do that for you when they're cleaning out the hatchery. You can help them by posting your frozen hatchlings here.

Q: How do I register to the chat?
A: Posted Image
Then you put in a password for your name and viola! All done!

Q: After registering to the chat it still says "You must register with your ERHQ username to chat. To register click "profile" at the bottom of the chat box." in red, why is that?
A: It's a sticky message, it won't go away. It's there so everyone see's it and can register to chat.

Q: When are the Egg Drop Times? I've seen that sometimes eggs appear on the front page of DragonCave, when does this happen, is it random?
A: There is a drop every 5 minute, with 3 eggs or so, at the cave entrance. On the hour there is a much bigger drop at the cave entrance.

Q: I want to show off my dragon and put in somewhere, I've seen other people do it, but how?
A: The Get Code is used to display your dragons the correct way in different formats. There's the HTML code that works for websites that allow HTML, there's the BBCode for use in forums, and the BBCode with TinyURL which also works in forums, but is definitely not my preference as it doesn't show the eggs/hatchlings correctly all the time.

Q: What Is The Abandoned Page? Where can I find it, what is it for?
A: Found here, the abandon page is for those eggs/hatchlings that people have bred or caught from the entrance that they don't want anymore.

Q: What Is the Automated Hatchery for? The ICU?
A: The Automated Hatchery is for you to add your eggs and hatchlings so that they get the view/unique views/clicks that they need to hatch and mature.
The ICU is for you to add your eggs and hatchlings to if they are in danger of not hatching or maturing before they die. You can ONLY post in the ICU if they have 3 days left or less.

Q: I want to trade my egg and I've found someone who wants to know if it has lineage, but I don't know what it is! What is it?
A: It's the breeding line (parents/children).

Q: Do Seasonal/Event Dragons exist? If so, where can I find out about their release, and where to talk about them?
A: Yes, they do exist. You found out about them at the DC forums in the News section.

Q: What are those cracks in my egg? They get bigger every day! Is my egg sick!?
A: No, it's not sick. That is what happens when your egg is starts to hatch. It's perfectly normal. ^_^

Q:Why does my hatchling look different than yesterday? It now has wings, why didn't it have them before?
A: It's the second stage of a hatchling. It's starting to mature, and should now show gender.

Q: Parents? Why does one of my eggs have them, but my other doesn't?
A: Those eggs/hatchlings with parents were bred by another member of DC (or possibly you). The ones without parents were Cave Born.

Q:It says my dragon is a Female, is there any difference between/purpose of Male and Female dragons? Or is that just for fun?
A: The purpose of having male and female dragons is for breeding. You must have a male and female to be able to breed.

Q: How do I play dragon cave?
A: You steal eggs and get them views/unique views/clicks so that they hatch, and then grow up.

Q: What are the rules of ERHQ and Dragon Cave?
A: Here are the rules for ERHQ and Dragon Cave.

Q: Where do I trade?
A: We have a thread here for those that want to trade. You can see this thread here.

Q: How do I trade?
A:
Ararat on DC forums

Trading is fairly easy and safe, though you're not 100% guaranteed to be successful. Remember the easiest method to adopt a dragon is to use the getdragon link. This has been changed since the update and new server. The new code is:

http://dragcave.net/abandoned/1234

You can use this link to adopt a dragon without clicking on it at the abandoned egg page. If you and the person you're trading with arrange a time to trade at, you can keep refreshing this link at that time to virtually (though not totally) guarantee that you'll get the egg or hatchling you're refreshing for.

NOTE: The catching of the abandoned egg is the hard part. You MUST use the getdragon code and refresh it over and over quickly. It doesn't matter if the page doesn't fully load, just click refresh over and over while the other person abandons the egg! It's best for the catcher to tell the dropper that they will begin to refresh NOW and have that be the signal to drop the egg. Any pause or miss communication about when the egg is being dropped will result in failure.

Q: What does each type of moderator do?
A: Site Owner: Is the main admin of the site. Makes all the final decisions on things.
Resigned Admins: Past site owners that no longer have the time and/or energy to be the site owner anymore.
Website Builder: The builder and manager of our Automated hatchery.
Global Moderators: They moderate all boards.
Discussion Moderators: They moderate the discussion boards.
Hatchery Workers: They moderate the hatchery and ICU.
Chat Moderators: They moderate the cbox.

Q: How do I PM and delete PM's?
A: You can PM any member of the board by clicking the "PM" link in their profile. You can PM's by archiving them then going to Archives and deleting them there.

Q: How do I change my forum username?
A:There is an option in your preferences to change your username. Once you do that an administrator will have to approve it.

I was wondering... how did you create this site?

I'm currently going to create my own hatchery, and I need all the help I can get with coding and such.

Could you tell me how would I code it to create my own self-serve hatchery similar to ERHQ?

There's quite a bit of coding to it. I didn't actually code the hatchery, and couldn't help you make one if I wanted to.

Instead of making your own site, how about helping us improve ours? If you're really willing to help out around here you could become a mod here (possibly). We're always looking for those that are willing to help out. ^_^
Please, read the Board Rules, ICU Rules, Chat Rules, & the FAQ before you do anything.
