What a twist!
|
A likely story, Vesper told herself, but probably only a half-truth. She shrugged it off, as well as the cold. She so desperately wanted to take off her hat and let the wind take her hair with it, and just let it all blow around. The cold wasn't her favorite, but the wind through her hair was a nice feeling. "You look like you could use a cup of joe." She looked at the can where she threw away her own cup, "I wish I still had mine. New York coffee gets so cold so fast, amirite?" |

"Ah, no. I don't drink coffee." she said still smiling. "I find that it has the opposite effect on me. I tend to want a nap afterwards. But I can understand. Drinks tend to get cold very fast in this weather." Her personality was changing ever so slowly. Keri could feel in the air around the two of them. Vesper was like a snake coiling into itself, protecting itself, until finally it struck out to attack. She smiled slightly to herself at this. Vesper reminded her of someone she use to know. "Should we find somewhere to sit then? Or...am I too imposing?" she suggested. She swore her face was going to be frozen stiff. |

"Sitting would be nice. Perhaps it's still early enough to find one of those street vendors in the park. They actually sell wonderful coffee and hot chocolate, as well as bagels. I think they're the only thing that hasn't changed about NYC." Vesper pointed down the path they stood on. Not even a hundred feet away sat such a vendor, and she managed a content look. "I'm not treating though." The blonde began to head towards the vendor as the wind around them blew bitterly again. It was still early enough, which meant it wouldn't be getting warmer for a while still. |

"Probably something that never will." Keri said with a content smile. "People still need to eat afterall." Keri followed Vesper along, having her lead the way. She ignored her comment though, it was almost expected for a resident of New York. She took no offense, afterall she had two dollars to spare for a drink and maybe a snack. "I really didn't expect to see someone here when its this cold." Keri shivered again and buried her face as best she could into her scarf. "It isn't exactly the best weather to be sitting in the park is it? I expected that everyone would be hiding in their warm rooms." |

"I'd love to hide in my warm room, but I was bunking with the leader of the resistance last night, and aside from the so-called politeness he exuded, he was a royal asswipe." She asked the vendor for a medium coffee with two sugars and a splash of milk and paid him the dollar twenty-five for it. "I don't think I'll be going back to that room for quite a while." Twist turned away from the vendor, but waited for Keri to order, "And he told me to stay away from Times Square today, but I doubt I'll be able to let my curiosity wait any longer." She blew on the coffee and then took a sip. To her surprise, it was way better than the stuff she bought from that chain-store earlier, and it warmed her as it went down. She sighed and then took another sip, which burnt her tongue a little bit before going down her throat. |

Keri blinked at the older woman almost blankly. She wasn't sure whether she was really being serious. There was no hint of sarcasm in her voice, just dislike. If it was true...did that mean the Resistance was here in New York... She idly thought about it as she ordered a hot chocolate asking for extra whipped cream. She gave the guy two dollars and told him to keep the change as she turned back to Vesper sipping her drink. Keri didn't honestly think that she would be getting this quality of information today..."I heard something about a demonstration today...I was worried since it was near my apartment...I don't suppose you know any more than I do at this point, do you?" She took another sip in thought. If the Resistance was here...then she really did have something to worry about. |

"Naw. Klaus just said to stay away from Times Square. I think he was doing it to scare me, but he kinda did the complete opposite. Now I really want to know what's going to happen there." Then there was a pause, and she glanced off in the distance, "It just dawned on me that we're only 20 blocks away from there right now." Vesper was silent for a moment, "I could get there on a subway from here." She muttered to her coffee cup, already plotting, "But I wonder what Klaus is up to. I didn't see him when I woke up this morning." Suddenly, she turned to Keri, "Do you know anything about him? About Klaus? You seem to be more informed than I am... whateveryournameis." |

Klaus...The name was familiar but without her laptop with her, she couldn't recall anything specific about that name. Vesper seemed to be talking to herself until she suddenly turned the conversation to Keri. She blinked again in confusion. "Klaus...who?" she said genuinely clueless. Klaus, leader of the resistance, who was she talking about? "I only heard of the demonstration cause of the posters taped up in my building. They were on the lamp poles at one time too but the police tore them down whenever they found one." That was the truth. Had it not been for the posters, probably placed up by Klaus himself, Keri wouldn't have known about the demonstration. "But...if he tells you to stay away...then that means something bad is going to happen, isn't it?" Her choice of words made her sound like a child. Then again...that was what she was aiming for. With every word, she was more and more interested in this Resistance even if her face and actions didn't show it. |

"I don't care what he says. I want to know what he's up to." Vesper began to pace there, sipping at her hot coffee every now and then, "There's something about him. If you met him, you'd know what I'm talking about." She stopped then, remembering. "It's his eyes." That's right. When she saw his eyes, she stopped cold in her tracks, and she got this fuzzy feeling in the back of her skull about the whole thing too, "They're two different colors, and they made my blood run cold. There's something about them, about him, that makes me want to learn more." She looked at Keri again, "Have you ever felt so curious?" |

"Ah..." Keri didn't know how to answer. Vesper was so irrational at times but thought clearly. She couldn't focus on one thing for too long but always seemed to hit the right points. Method to madness...perhaps... "Curious...you say...." Keri scratched the back of her head, uncertainly. This girl confused her...Sure she was always curious, it was her job to be curious. The trick was to make it look like she wasn't. But to be genuinely curious...she probably had not been in a long time. "Perhaps...I try to guess what kind of jobs people have when I'm on the train or whether students attend my school...but its all generalized I guess...." She sipped at her drink, she didn't want to say anymore. Klaus did make her curious. And Vesper being curious made her even more curious. She hadn't planned to go to the demonstration, just spy from some city cams. But perhaps... |
