What a twist!
|
It had been a long day, and Twist was trying everything to stay away from Times Square, like Klaus had warned her. But her curiosity was starting to get away with her. Why did he want her to stay away so badly? She scoffed as she sat there on a bench in the park, sipping coffee. Her new, although lifted, jacket was keeping her rather warm, but the pit of her stomach felt so cold. People nowadays were cold, colder than they were in Quincy. She remembered hearing rumors about how the world used to be, how people weren't afraid of the government. She wondered why the rest of the world didn't step in to stop the US from continuing this way. Didn't the US used to do the same thing? Stop tyrranies from forming and fix the world? That was more than twenty years ago, and she knew that back then, the world looked down on that kind of interference. It made sense that the world stayed away from the US now. Vesper sighed again, sipping at her still-hot coffee. The park was quiet, and there were maybe five people around, but it was bitterly cold. She ducked into her scarf a little more to cover her face a bit, and closed her eyes. She could probably fall asleep here, with her coffee held in two hands. |

"Heeeeeey!!!!" The shrill voice seemed to echo off the trees as two sets of footsteps entered the park. Make that running footsteps. Her scarf flew back violently behind her. The speed she was going, it almost looked like she was gliding through the air. There weren't alot of people walking around due to the cold so she didn't have to weave through anyone. She did, however, have to catch someone. "Come back here you asshole!" she shouted after the running man, adding some more profanities in Japanese. He had obviously stolen something very important of hers to make her look like such an idiot in the middle of the city. Tall, dark hair, wear gloves and a scarf pulled up to his face, Keri couldn't get a good look at who he was. "I told you to wait!" she declared pouncing on his back resulting into the two of them crashing head first into the ground. He swiped with a fist but she blocked it with a forearm successfully swiping back the notepad and wallet he stole from her. |

What a twist!

A yell started tugging Twist out of her sleepiness. She blinked her eyes open just as two people fell down in front of her. With wide eyes, she watched the struggle before jumping up to help. But right as she was about to dive in, the woman reclaimed her items and it appeared that the fight was over. "Are you all right?" Vesper asked, as she inched closer. Upon closer inspection, it seemed that the man was still ready to fight the woman on top of him. Vesper took swift action and kicked him hard in the side, hoping to cause some damage to his ribs, or kidneys, or whatever was there. "This." Kick "Is for." Kick "Attacking." Kick "A woman." Kick. |

Keri fell onto the ground out of surprise as the other woman came charging forward. She looked up blinking not knowing what to do now. She had never been the violent type so this blatant action of wanting to seriously hurt someone left her in somewhat of a shock. She managed to pull herself out of it to stand up. She had backed up just in time. The male lashed out furiously grabbing Vesper's ankle and tugging hard hoping to pull her to the ground. He sat up with a glare at bother women, his stare lingering on Keri before he picked himself up. Two cops were headed their way and the male made a run for it. Obviously not wanting to be caught for such a petty theft. "I'm....fine?" Keri wondered, minutes after Vesper had voiced her concern. |

The man's grab had her tripping a bit, but she regained her balance enough to see him run off. The cops didn't even stop to question the two girls as they chased down their suspect. Vesper brushed off her jeans and then her jacket before adjusting her hat to better cover some of her blonde hair. The police were everywhere, and she wouldn't be surprised if they recognized her from earlier. At least these cops weren't the same men in uniform as earlier. Turning from the sight of the men running away from them, Vesper finally looked at the girl she had helped. She was short, and had dark hair and eyes and seemed to be rather average looking. No doubt there was something important about her notebook, but she wouldn't question it right away. Better to at least try to be nice now and then mean later. She had had enough bad luck with people already, and even though she felt she didn't need the friendship, she was feeling rather lonely. "Us girls have to stick together. Especially against assholes like that one there." Vesper looked away from Keri, her eyes following the trail the cops made out into Central Park. She took a sip from her cooling coffee, and then made a face. It didn't taste very good anymore. |

"Ah...yea...." Keri said with an uncertain nod. She pocketed both her wallet and her notepad before stuffing her hands into her coat pockets as well. "It's freezing." she muttered into her scarf. She had always been different from people in the weather. She was one of those people who wore long sleeves in the summer because she always felt cold. She blamed her genetics and body temperature for that. "I hope he didn't injure you in any way." she said looking down at where he grabbed her. Well, she didn't fall so she would be okay. "Sorry if I caused you any trouble." |

"It's fine. I'm a big girl." Vesper tossed the coffee into a nearby garbage can and returned her hands to her pockets. "I'm just in a shitty mood, and watching you fight that guy made me want to fight him as well." There was a pause, and Twist's eyes returned to Keri, "That was a nice block by the way." There was no smile as she said it, but she was trying super-hard to be nice. She could have said a million other things that would have sounded a lot worse than whatever she was saying now. |

"Well, I don't think I could have stood by when he ran off with my cash credit cards." she said with a laugh. Keri blinked almost blankly at the other girl, only now deciding to get a good look at her. Vesper was clearly older than her, didn't look it but she gave off that 'adult' vibe. Even though her words and actions were childish, she had this calm to her. "Thanks." Keri replied with a smile. "Though I'm pretty sure that was just luck. Fifty-fifty he would've hit my face. I doubt it'll happen again." She always had to remind herself that she should take a couple of self-defense classes. Her line of work certainly needed it....well...it was her work that made her so busy in the end. |

"I'm kind of surprised he pulled a stunt like that anyways, what with these whole city a-crawling with crazy policemen ready to charge anyone with the smallest crime." She shivered, but not from the cold. She had come close to that kind of life only a few hours ago. "I can understand him stealing your wallet, as any desperate man would, but why the notebook? Are you a reporter or something?" It was a shot in the dark, and she felt like this girl wasn't really a reporter, but maybe it would get her to introduce herself at least. Vesper hated going first in introductions. She'd rather be rude and remain a stranger for a while in case she said something to spoil this conversation they had going. |

"Ah that...." she said trailing thinking back to what happened a few minutes ago. She pulled out her notepad and flipped through a few pages. "Ah...here.." she turned to show Vesper. There was an address scrawled messily on the paper. "I had my wallet out after going to the post office. I was looking up the address to this store. Next thing I know both items were gone from my hands." she laughed a little embarrassed. "I'm not good with directions so I was trying to figure out which way to go to find this street." Keri pocketed the notepad and shivered. She hunched her shoulders up as if that would combat the cold. At the moment, she wanted to curl up in her warm apartment with a cup of tea. Though talking in the freezing cold was fine with her, she couldn't ignore her toes that felt like they were freezing off. |
