Sigael is the smallest of the three remaining dark elf settlements. These elves make their home high up in the sylvan boughs of a great tree anchored to the smallest of the Theraen Isles. The scarce strands of sunlight that pass through the great tree’s ebon boughs cast an ethereal glow upon the land, as if the kingdom were draped in eternal twilight. The canopy provides great shelter and the land rarely suffers extreme weather. The rain collects in the canopy and feeds the verdant forest of evergreens and purple flowers below. Glowing, silvery rivers flow over the surface and pour over the great boughs, entwining the great tree’s trunk and emptying into the Sea below. Even though the dark elves have lived in Sigael for over a thousand years, much of the great tree has yet to be explored. Adventurers make their way up to the great tree by means of enchanted wooden lifts suspended from the boughs of the great tree. As one ascends the air transitions from salty to sweet as the Sea disappears below. The sound of crashing waves ceases to be heard and soft ethereal sounds fill one’s ears. The atmosphere of the great tree is a quiet and somewhat solemn one. At the summit, a broad flattened tree branch serves as a path to a series of winding staircases that entwine continually around the great tree’s in circles. Upon entrance to Sigael, adventurers are met by an entourage of dark elven guards. At this level in the canopy, tree limbs are so thickly intertwined that they form a natural cradle for the tiered elven architecture. The first tier is home to a worker’s districts of sorts, where graceful bridges and foot paths allow passage to the elaborate open-air huts serving as workshops and healing centers set amongst intricate gardens. The Whispering Winds Inn rests here as well. The second tier, accessed by another set of enchanted lifts, is home to more elaborate huts, this time serving as private residences. Many residences are also made within the hollowed out branches of the great tree. A typical dark elven residence, although elaborately decorated, is really quite simple. They consist of one or two rooms, stacked on top of eachother with nothing more than a bed, dresser, desk, table and chairs. On the last tier, are the Chieftess’ Quarters, simple just like the other dwellings in the village. The third tier is also home to the sacred temple, the most elaborate of all elven architecture seen in the village. |
