Today, Edean serves as a place of teaching and residence for many of the Realm’s Magi. The enclave rests upon the greenest and most verdant plains of The Realm, high atop the cliffs bordering the Teil’yn Sea. High stone walls with interwoven magic and Sentry posts tower high above the confines of the enclave. Climbing up the spiral staircases to the top of a Sentry guard post yields a fantastic view. The sun is bright, the wind is fierce and tastes of salt. Edean has two points of entry, the North and West Gates. Magnificent gilded doors flank each side of the entryways that tunnel through the wall. Entering through the North Gate leads to the fields where local residents tend to crops and raise a variety of livestock. Many residents have built their cottages near the fields to minimize travel distance. The cottages are sparse in the northern and western regions of Edean but become more heavily concentrated as the fields and pastures transition into the main cobbled town. In the center of the enclave community rests The Arcanum, an elegant spire’d tower that houses the Elder Council chambers, common rooms, University and Archive. A grand winding staircase made of marble begins at the foot of the tower in the square and encircles its entire height with landings along the way open to various levels of the tower. The cobbled streets surrounding The Arcanum are lined by small homes, shops and combinations of both. To the East of The Arcanum are the barracks, stables, and Infirmary. The barracks are styled as a large armored keep and is home to Edean’s Sentries. The stables are directly outside of the barracks. Not only are the Sentry’s horses kept here but any of the local residents can purchase fine steeds for themselves from the stable master. The Infirmary lies directly opposite the barracks. Here, many of Edean’s priests pledge themselves to caring for the ill and injured. It is a large building consisting of private and semi-private rooms decorated in a simple style. The beds are quite comfortable and dressed in simple white linens. In front of the Infirmary, is a small stone building with stone stairs descending deep beneath the surface to the natural hot spring that serve as Edean's public baths. A large cavernous hall has been carved out of the sediment and in the middle, a stone wall has been erected as gender barrier. The eastern quarter of Edean is also the location of many workshops. Local tradesmen practice the fine arts of blacksmithing, tailoring, weaving, enchanting and alchemy within these shops. Finally, Edean’s religious mecca, The Temple, lies directly south of The Arcanum. The dome shaped Temple is open to the stars and is surrounded by magnificent gardens, ponds, statues and wildlife sanctuaries. |
