Worst Intro ever. -_________-;

Venice was easily one of the most amazing cities in the world, with canals as streets and tourist attractions littered throughout the city. It was a beautiful place at night, for lights were lit and people tended to roam the streets looking for entertainment as dusk turned into evening. Everything seemed to cool off and become more inviting, and even the alleyways – which looked so dismal and dark during the day – took on lives of their own. There were so many colorful people, and the food was possibly some of the best available. It was a little crowded, but that was something to be expected in such a popular area.

“Are you sure we’re supposed to be here?”

“I think so.”

“Are we there yet?”

“No, Nichole.”

He was beginning to wonder if they’d ever get to where they were going. Venice – while it was quite beautiful and amusing – was an annoyance. The streets all looked alike and every turn they’d made thus far had been a wrong one. They now found themselves in a small alley just off of a main road, where cars and throngs of people moved about. Crowds, crowds, and more crowds; what a lovely welcoming committee. They’d asked directions at least fifty times in the past seven hours, and still there was no sign of their destination.

“I think we should stop asking tourists for directions, December.” Had he not mentioned that hours ago when the thirty fifth person had been asked? He was quite sure he had. “They obviously don’t know the city very well, being new to it like us. We should find some locals, or natives, or…whatever you wanna call them. They’d know where this…Rialto Bridge thing is, right?”

“Probably,” he replied in a distant tone. It was getting late and he could’ve used some sleep. They all could have by the way Salem’s head kept drooping. Her bright blue eyes kept closing of their own accord, and her grip on his hand loosened every now and then.

He thought that he looked quite a lot like a father walking through the streets. Nichole had attached herself to one arm, and Salem had clasped the opposite hand. If they hadn’t been very young, then they might have looked more like three best friends instead of a twenty three year old and his apparent daughters, who had obviously come from an older woman considering their age of about nine. That would’ve put him at fourteen when his daughters were born.

If they had been his daughters.

As it was, the three were not related in any way. Salem had come to him as an even younger child, and he’d created Nichole with his own hands; bringing the body of a wooden, nine-year-old-sized puppet to life. That was what he did. He controlled and animated puppets and inanimate objects. It wasn’t so much as a job as it was a luxury. It made fighting so much easier, and traveling was faster, too, when one could simply bring a tree to life and make it carry them by night.

On his shoulder sat another man; a small one who carried an equally small map in his thin hands. “Remind me never to let you navigate, Hime.” The manikin lifted his head; yellow-green eyes dilating and adjusting to the light.

“Fine,” he snapped. “You try to read it, then. This is all we have and we were lucky enough to find this. I never knew that rats could make such nice maps.”
“And you would know all about rats, wouldn’t you?” Hime only sniffed indignantly. “Ok, where’s the map say we are?” There was a moment of rustling as the man climbed onto his head. “What’re you doing?”

“I can see better from up here, Dec,” was the enthusiastic reply. “It’s really cool! I’ve never sat on a tall person’s head before!”

“Just read the map!” Another rustling sound floated down to his ears and then a tug on the left side of his head. “Left?”

“Yeah, left.” He turned; tugging on the girls’ hands to make them follow him in their sleep-filled stupor. “I think. The map could’ve been upside-down…or I could’ve misread it. It’s dark and we don’t all have night vision.”

“That’s your problem, Hime.” He stopped and slumped to the ground. “We’re resting.” Salem immediately climbed into his lap and curled up in an almost cat-like way; black hair mixing with his. Nichole satisfied herself by snuggling against his arm. “Look at them. They’re the ones that wanted to see the damn bridge.” Hime chuckled as he crawled into Salem’s hair and settled in until only a small amount of his blonde hair was visible. His eyes just barely gleamed in the shadows of his Mistress’ hair.

“How long will we be just…sitting here?” December shrugged; closing his ocean blue eyes and leaning his head back against the wall.

“We’ll probably end up staying here, Hime,” he grumbled. “We’re almost out of money. We were lucky enough to get some food off of the vendor. Bread, cheese, grapes; we have enough for a while.” He pulled half of a loaf of bread out of his bag, which he’d slung down beside him while sitting. “See?” He held it out, and Hime took a small portion. He then broke some more off and divided it into three separate pieces; laying two of the aforesaid pieces beside his sleepy companions.

“Dec?” Nichole asked; tucking into her piece with quite a bit of ferocity. Her tanned fingers had dug so far into the bread that the nails had disappeared. Her spring green eyes were so focused upon the morsel that she looked like a half-starved raccoon bent on getting supper. “Are we really sleeping here?”

“I hope not,” Hime mumbled as he popped the last bit of his bread into his mouth. “Venice looks nice, but it’s pretty dangerous. The mapmaker told me so, and he’s lived here since birth.” Oh, yes. They could trust a mapmaker rat. Totally a good idea.

“I don’t think we have any money for a room.” Salem stirred and opened her eyes again. “Hey. Eat some bread.” The small girl sniffed her piece then took a small bite. “Anyone want cheese? We have cheese.”

“Cheese?!” Nichole was awake instantly; hands out and waiting. “I love cheese!”

“Shhhh,” he breathed as he dug the cheese out. “We don’t want all of Venice knowing we’re here. I doubt the citizens would like two Puppet Demons and living manikins wandering around, don’t you?” Nichole nodded eagerly and zipped her lip with an imaginary zipper; short, sepia brown hair almost frizzing with the prospect of cheese. “Are you a dairy-o-holic, or something, Nicky?” She only nodded. “Well, here.” No sooner had the slice hit her hands than she’d gobbled it down and snuggled in again with a satisfied smile.

“No wonder people steer clear of us,” Hime muttered. “Cheese girl, an emotionless Demon, a six inch tall manikin, and a man whose very name strikes terror into the hearts of the entire town of St. Petersburg.”

“That wasn’t my fault,” December replied with such a sharp tone that Hime burrowed further into Salem’s hair. “You know I didn’t mean to. It just…happened. Besides, that palace was taking up a lot of space.”

“Oh, and that’s a reason to demolish a Russian landmark.” The Demon rolled his eyes with a heavy sigh. “We should probably take watch in shifts.”

“I might as well go first.” He jammed a thumb in the direction they’d come. “I won’t be able to sleep a wink with all of that noise. Does this city ever sleep?”

“No.” With those words, Hime completely disappeared, and soft snoring came from Salem. Nichole was trying her best to keep her drooping lids open, but fatigue soon won her over and she – like Salem and Hime – drifted off to sleep. December just took another bite of his bread and prepared for another long, sleepless night.

"Hey Pip, Pip... PIP." The parrot shrieked in Akise's ear. Akise, or Pip as everyone called him, smacked the bird, "God Ferrus, wheres Dimit anyways. You should be with that dork." The bird growled, yes growled, at Pip and fluttered over to the shoulder of a girl with long violet hair. "Pip you need to be nicer to Ferrus, besides, Dimit's sick remember?" ah yes, they were currently targeting tourists to sell their stuff to buy Dimit some medicine. Pip sighed, he would protect his friends at all costs, and so he taught them to steal. Tipping to look over the edge of a building he spotted a small group. clicks could be heard as mechanical wings opened up. He strained to listen for any signs of activity for them.

Two... or was it three? Well, they were sleeping, but one was awake, he could tell that. "Hey Sharvee, stay up her, I'ma go check something out." flying in the allies was hard but these were some potentially easy targets. The violet haired girl nodded and whispered something to the parrot, it flew off.

The wings angled themselves carefully, although they were not attacked to Pip in any way they still could understand his thoughts. Carefully angling himself so he wouldn't be directly over them when he started to descend he silently launched himself off the edge of the building's rooftop. Skimming fingers on the side of the building he twisted so he'd fly directly over the small group. Low enough to see them but not nearly close enough to touch them he slowly glided, making sure that the green glow on his wings were dimmed. this way he would not be noticed as much and they would not remember his clothes, too fine for a thief, a vest with a dress shirt under it, a tie, and even dress pants.

They seemed poor, Pip held back a snort, they weren't worth it. It seemed to be a man and his two daughters. Angling sharply upwards Pip flew back to the top of the roof. "S'not worth it Sharv." She sighed and cursed. "'Nother group of poor tourists?" Pip nodded.

Ferrus flew back and perched in Sharvee's hair. "Snerky says that he'll be here in a bit." When the bird reffered to Snerky he referred to the final man in the group, and he was the oldest, they called him Peg, he was a washed up sailor, literally. Pip and Dimit had fished him out of the main canal.

"When Peg gets here I'm going to separate from you guys, I need to check something out." Sharv snorted, she didn't like it when Pip wanted to 'check something out' he almost always got in trouble. "In that case I'm going to go wait for Peggums." She disappeared by jumping down onto a car, and disappearing over a bridge.

"I swear there was something in that girl's hair, something alive." Pip muttered, preparing to go down and look again. But in a different way. Using his wings to glide down onto the main road, he folded them up so they couldn't be seen that well. Then he turned and walked in the direction of the alley, turning down the alleyway and pretending to be surprised when he noticed the people.

"Oh my, do you need help? A hotel or something?"
