The Phantom Jedi

Atticus entered the small room. With wires and monitors scattered around the room he was starting to have second plans about this. The council had asked him to test new software the Galactic Republic was creating. This allowed one to project oneself into a computer, which would then transfer the "player" into a virtual world where spars or meetings could take place from across the Galaxy and with no risk of injury. Knight Drey'Con Shadow also came with him.

The Jedi looked around, while a man connected wires. "Oh, sorry sirs. Just putting together some final touches." He typed something into a keyboard. "The Mandolorians you will be combating should arrive soon. Tank Black and Runi Skirata. He looked up at the Jedi and smiled.

"Ok, so you sit here," The man said, as Atticus noticed that he never offered his name. "And then this helmet transfers your brain signals to the computer, with will project your characters into this holoprojector and what ever you do in your mind will happen in the hologram. In a realistic example, Senators would be able to meet in this virtual space from across the galaxy or plan war strategies. With more work of course."

Atticus looked at the man. He trusted the Council's decision but, the man was...odd. Nonetheless this machine fascinated him. He looked at it, taking in the sights and sounds created by the machine. "Don't touch it!" The man shouted. Atticus backed away. "Ok, sorry." He mumbled.

He leaned against a wall next to Drey'Con. "What do you think about this guy." He whispered. "I'm not so sure about him. But I trust the council's judgment."

The man looked up, apparently out of earshot. "I already have information on your abilities and armament. The Temple provided that." Atticus gave Drey'con a look. "My point exactly. But maybe my years tracking Sith has made me a little less trusting."

The man went around, checking stats and wires while the Jedi waited for their Mandolorian sparring partners.

Tank Black walked through the crowds of the city moon. He had been contacted by a special interest group, or rather the base on Mandalore had, and Tank had volunteered to go along with this job that the group had asked. The Mandalorians were to be paid for getting involved in this, and friend of Mandalore, Runi Skirata had decided he too would join Tank in this job. Tank didn't know Runi's motivations for it, but they were likely unselfish ones. As for Tank, the motivation was clear: Any chance to fight a Jedi, even if it didn't mean that he could kill the Jedi, was a chance he'd take.

Jedi were among the greatest tests a Mandalorian could hope to face, and Tank had faced more than one in his 150 years in the Galaxy. He loved fighting a well trained Jedi because there were few workouts that were better. Rolling his shoulders, they gave a loud crack. Finally he arrived at the warehouse where the test was to take place.

"If I didn't know better I'd say the Republic dogs were plannin' a trap..." He muttered as he entered into the building, decked out in full armor. He stood a head taller than the rest of the people in the warehouse and in his black and gold armor, regal in his stature he cast an intimidating light. He was noticed immediately, "You must be Tank Black."

"I am. Lead me to this contraption."

Nar Shaddaa, of all places to hold one of these Republic testing facilities, they had to pick one of the sleaziest, slimiest planets this part of the Mid Rim. Drey'con had ventured forth to this world on a few occasions and to say that he did not like things here was an understatement. Of course, being a jedi he had to hold himself above that feeling as there was no telling what or when his skills would be needed. Now of all things he was summoned like some mindless drone to run a simulation of sorts of a prototype machine and that did not sit well with him.

The nautolan knight had remained silent for the most part throughout the journey towards the cesspool and found only comfort in the force as he spent most of his time meditating or getting to know his partner for this trial, Atticus Stark. A jedi of renowned skill for infiltrating areas usually deemed too dangerous and holding combative skills that exemplified his race, the green-skinned knight held no worries as to what may happen should the Mandalorians find a need to take things into the physical realm.

That was then for now Drey'con found himself leaning upon a wall adjacent to the contraption they were to use for this little test. Sporting his simple Jedi Robes, the knight merely kept an eye on the technician as Atticus jabbed in with a few questions like a curious child with a new toy. Of course drey was probably around the same age as his Echani counterpart but still, he held himself composed as he was taught to be from the council. Soon of course, Atticus found himself beginning to ask Drey'con questions and the nautolan would not deny the man answers; after all, the nautolan was not one to shy away from expressing his opinion.

"Have faith in the council's guidance my friend, perhaps this will be a means to ensure peaceful meetings between warring sides someday." Drey'con answered Atticus calmly just as the first of the mandalorians entered the complex. A clear behemoth, it was obvious the man boasted not only a great physical strength but with armor such as his, he was no doubt truly a skilled warrior; from what Drey had heard after all, only the best are bestowed with custom armor.

"So then Mandalorian, I do hope you and yours do not seek retribution when this little spar is over...after all, let us just take this as sporting fun." Drey'con said calmly yet with a sarcastic tone as if the distaste for his sort was coming to the surface. Of course the nautolan merely jested as he believed their sort to be the type of people to boast before a bout. Drey'con continued to lean upon the wall next to Atticus as they now waited for the final arrival, no doubt having come with the big guy yet holding things up to enjoy a cantina or something.

Enjoying the bar was exactly what Runi had been doing an hour ago.

One hour before

Runi's knee slammed up into the Nikto's crotch. It was always interesting to see how different species reacted to that move. Generally the male testicles were in the same spot with species all through out the galaxy. With that in mind Runi couldn't help but wonder You would think we could all get along, we all fuck the same.

The aliens face scrunched up and his brow made a funny wrinkling move around his horns as his hands shot to his groin and he fell over. His compatriots stood up. In normal circumstances he would have killed them all, it wasn't befitting to start a fight and leave survivors, they tended to come for revenge. But he had already made other arrangements.

"I can only kill one of you right now, which one of you will it be?" he waved a gloved finger back and forth between the three thugs.
A Gamorrean stepped up and hefted a wicked looking vibro axe. "My arg'garok drink your blood tonight."
"Guess that means you big boy."

The porcine creature swung his axe high and brought it down. The momentum behind the blow alone made it whistle through the air. As the pig watched though Runi was moving. Ever since he had become aware of his Force sensitvity, the things that he did now he realized them for what they were. The world seemed to slow down and ripples split the air along the axes blade. But Runi didn't need the force to take this guy apart.Ke kicked out with a foot and locked the creatures left elbow showing startling limberness. The gamorrean felt the joint give between the impact and the downward force of his swing. The axe kept moving however and the handle pried itself against his thumbs, loosening his grip. Runi's hands darted out, one grabbing the butt of the handle, the other grabbing the haft. With a sharp pull he levered the axe out of the pigs hands and swung upward. The alien felt his his own axe hit him in the throat but before he could do anything his head seperated from his shoulders in a shower of gore.

Even as the body fell and the last two stepped back the man Runi had been sent here to kill came out of from a back room in the cantina with the business associates he was having a meeting with. And the young slave-grl they had all had turns raping. And Runi had just been about to let this guy go. He shook his helmeted head and drew his pistols.

Present time

Runi made it into the room at the end of the nautolan's comment. Blood dripped from his armor in certain places, none of it his, and blaster burns showed on its surface. The vibro-axe which he had somehow managed to reacquire in the scuffle he drug along behind him. "I agree" he chimed in "because I already took down a few chaakar today for the day and all I got from that game was this axe. One of you can have it if you want." He dropped it with a clang he dropped it to the floor. That was when he noticed the technician had stopped his work and was staring at him. "What, never seen a man come home from a hard days work? Just hook the machine up please."

What he had been thinking when he took this job he didn't know. But the credits sounded good and all he had to do was fight some people to test a computer program, no killing. As he looked at the other people in the room he took in the robes for the first time and let out a whistle that he was glad couldn't be heard outside his helmet. Jedi. He hated fighting Jedi. It was times like this he wished someone had taught him how to hide his force-sensitive nature like he had heard some Jedi and Sith could do. The best he could hope for was that they didn't notice his abilities and that he didn't freak out and lose control. With a few eyeblinks he opened up a secure comm line to the other mando in the room.

"Su'cuy gar ner'vod. Anybody tell you we would be fighting Jetiise?"

As the first Mandolorian entered he seemed stern. Mandolorians weren't known for being seen without armor but it was interesting to see such. Mandolorians weren't high on Atticus' mission log and were rare. The armor was black and gold, somewhere in Atticus' brain there he knew the meanings behind the colors, but he was blanking on them.

The man who had been working the machine looked insulted. "This is not a contraption!" He shouted.

Atticus looked up as the man walked. Dripping blood and dragging an axe, this man had something off about him. As he walked in Atticus felt the Force coming off him, bordering on the dark side. Atticus had to remember this man's face and name, for all he knew he could be sent after this man soon. The man's mannerisms said told Atticus that he didn't care about others, selfishness that often lead to the darkside.

The man ran back over to the control panel. "Ok." He said. "If you will all gather around, we can start this." Once all had gathered he began. "OK, sit in these chairs here." He pointed to four chairs, with probes and sensors tracing where a human spine and brain would be. "The sensors pick up on your thoughts, which then will be sent through the computer and put into the simulation. All the physiques and stats have all ready been programmed. The level is a simple circular indoor arena." He continued to type awkwardly into the computer.

Always a jetsetter, Atticus was the first to sit down. "Just relax, and let your brain do all the work. Your body doesn't need to and shouldn't move." The man said. Atticus lied back, the glowing sensors matching his spine and head perfectly. A small apparatus lowed around his head which monitored eye motion and brain activity. A tingling sensation went down his spine and his vision went black.

His vision came back and he was in a large Colosseum, circular with viewing ports along the walls. Atticus looked around. In the simulation, what he saw changed realistically, in reality his body didn't move.

"Go ahead and test out everything." The man said, his voice coming from everywhere at once. Atticus lit his lightsaber, tested his cybernetic eye and flicked Force Cloak on and off. "Everything seems set." He said.

The man looked to the Jedi and Mandolorians. "Next?" He said.

"Aye, young one." Tank said in response to Runi's question, he gave a rough chuckle and said, "Stay away from the flash light butter knife combos they where around their wastes, you'll do fine." The mechanic looked up suddenly and shouted at Tank. Tank grunted back in response to the wiry armed man with the hyrdospanner and waved him away. "A Vibro-axe? Good, Jedi tend to like face to face fighting and Mand'alor the First knows blasters don't work on the green livered bastards."

The nautolan Jedi said something to which Tank looked at him, "A Nautolan? How wonderful, always fun to beat up a potential hereditary cousin. Never hurts to prove where the gene pool truly decided to assign the Survival of the Fittest." Tank reached up and removed his helmet, tentacles dropped from beneath it first and revealed the pupil-less eyes that sat on his face. He gave a great grin that spread his black skin to reveal a sharp toothed smile. "So Green-skin, you ready to tangle with a Feeorin?"

The wiry technician piped up then again, and Tank turned to look at the man. "I'm coming, mir'osik. Tank walked over to the man's chair and sat down. Soon he found himself in the virtual world, and grunted. Taking his rocket launcher, he fired it into the stands where virtual people were sitting, blowing a large crater into the arena. Laughing, he reloaded the rocket launcher and placed it on his back.

Runi sat down in the chair himself and felt a slight tingle as his mind switched from the corporeal to the simulation. He watched as tank shot into the virtual crowd and slapped his shoulder plate. Even if Runi was this man's junior and this place wasn't real his standards didn't change. "No civillians. Let's save the explosions for the jedi. He patted all his holsters and pouches and saw that his various instruments were still there. A flash bang and a thermal grenade, the attachments on his armor and his three pistols slugthrowers. Then the blade in his boot. They weren't his prefered weapons for fighting force-users but they would do. He looked at the virtual weapons rack. And picked a scatter pistol just as an added bonus.

"So how do you think they'll come at us? One on one, or try to double team one of us for a quick finish?"

Not even retorting the Feeorin with a response, Drey'con himself merely followed the others to the machine. It was a sudden surprise to him that one such as that would appear in the mandalorian camp but then as they were a strong race, it was only natural that the mandos would assimilate them to their cause. Taking a seat upon the somewhat comfortable seat, Drey'con was soon lowered somewhat before a helmet complete with dark visor was fitted onto his head.

With a sudden flash, Drey'con soon found himself awake in what seemed like a real circled Arena of sorts but as the nautolan remembered, this was merely a computer simulation. It was surprising to him that the variables of feeling and utilizing the force still remained but he did not question it as it were just serve to confuse him. Instead, he looked to see that the others had already gathered and the decisions were being made as to how things would play out.

"As I am a man who likes to try new things, perhaps I should team with one of you mandalorians...a chance perhaps to even the playing field all around?" Drey'con said with seemingly a slight hindrance of pride when he merely began to poke fun at the situation. It would be interesting to face one of the great threats the order has seen throughout the years but even better to fight along side one, learn how they fought and perhaps why so as to discover a method to perhaps better understand their culture; after all, the order has learned to join with the echani and epicanthix so it must not be such a stretch.

Atticus was still testing the limits of the simulation, trying not to show off too much of his powers, when Drey'con and the rest had entered and gathered. In response to Drey'con's comment Atticus said, "Interesting theory." He said. These Mandolorians seemed violent however, as evident by the rocket to the stands, even virtual casualties were surprising, and Atticus wasn't sure how his combat would work with theirs. Friendly fire must be common when one team member is shooting while the other sneaks up invisible behind the target.

However, Atticus didn't voice the fact that he was completely opposed at the moment. "I'm not quite sure, strategizing would be difficult, though it would be a nice way to learn about how fellow warriors."

"Ally? With a Jedi?" Tank scoffed, as he looked at the Nautolan, inwardly amazed that the virtual reality program so realistically imposed the images of the other combatants. Part of him was tempted to see if he could acquire this machine for the Mandalorians so as to provide them with some sort of training edge. He soon threw that idea away as a bad one, however, the reason why the Mandalorians were strong was because they didn't rely on frilly little machines to train their soldiers. Soldiers fought and died in training as if it were real life combat, nothing less that greatness was expected of them. To cheat such as this for training, would be a dishonor.

He turned his mind to the present and looked back and forth at the two Jedi, "Although I can see why you'd want to join up with a Mandalorian, we are just that awesome."
