Jake was his usual sweet self. Big hugs for the four of who waited in the bitter cold to say hi. He was so moved that we came to see the first night and that we stayed around to say hi. Was glad to hear that we plan onseeing it when the show opens in earnest and they have "the bugs worked out". To be honest, there were a few things they need to improve but that is what prviews are for and Jake did a great job for his first NY theater performance. Hhis very proud Mom and girlfriend were two rows behind us:-) |

Well, Jake being hotter is a matter of opinion. I don't find him that attractive at all and certainly not as classically handsome as either Eric or Van. As for Eric doing short term things, he has filmed two feature length movies since the show ended. Dracula is only running for three months off-Broadway so it is not as though it is that long-term. I expect Eric will be doing a lot more stuff sooner rather than later, but I am puzzled over Van. I hope to see him soon. |

AHHH this was so fun. I'm at LaGuardia waiting to go home, and this is the first place my wireless has been decent enough to get on the board. It was awesome seeing Col, Raj, and Teresa on Tuesday! We had fun analysing everything after the show. Raj gave a fail to most of the accents, while I thought Jake's was adorable lol. But they're pretty much all the American-stage-ideas-of-a-British accent. I actually saw this the first 3 nights, the 3rd because of my late flight being delayed last night. I asked them to just put me on one the next day, rather than chance the delayed flight being cancelled, and being stuck at LaGuardia all night. An experience I've had, and would not wish to repeat. So anyway, it was a big surprise to Jake I was there on night 3 (I had said I was going home Thursday). A little embarrassed, I tried to hang back behind the stage door when it opened lol, but as Becky can tell you Jake spotted me right away. I am so not stealth like that. :p It was awesome seeing Becky again yesterday btw. ![]() Jake was continually surprised there were people who'd come to see him every night. The play itself, being in previews, is different each time. They have seemingly picked up on the unintentionally funny things from the first night that people chuckled at, and are kind of playing those up with a wink and a nod. I think that's a great decision for the play, and makes it more entertaining. The audience last night especially responded to this finer-tuned humor. There is a couch scene between Lucy and Harker that is now downright hilarious, and Jake got laughs playing up a very flustered Harker. Really great moment in the show for him. On the first night when we were talking to Jake, I may have said it looked like he wasn't trying that hard to kill Dracula. So the next night I said, "Whoa you really went for it tonight" (and I may have done a little growling re-enactment lol). He laughed and responded, "well you guys said I wasn't doing it right!" LOL. So I guess now we're helping direct the play. Anyway, I have pix up on my Facebook from the last couple days here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=304458&id=673616041&l=87943f2e72 I'm going to stop now before I ramble on for 6 more paragraphs. |

It reminded me of the STUFFER screening; he didn't just want praise, he wanted to know what people really thought. In that case, though, we were all so blown away we couldn't come up with anything but praise. At least with Dracula, there was something constructive to put forth. And you can "LuRe" me anytime LOL |

Don't know if this is the right place to post this but I saw that the NYT had a review of Jake's play. It was not a good review for the play overall but this is what was said about Jake: "Honorable mention should be made of Jake Silbermann, who avoids excessive histrionics as Lucy’s devoted adorer Jonathan Harker." Here is the link: http://theater.nytimes.com/2011/01/06/theater/reviews/06dracula.html?ref=theater&pagewanted=1 Edited by rissa310, Jan 6 2011, 10:40 AM.

Okay, did anyone else read this line in the NYT review with a slightly different twist: "I know you’re the world-famous authority, Dr. Van H...." So Van's a doctor now? Guess playing opposite a doctor rubbed off him. LOL (sheesh - can you say LuRe on the brain?!) P.S. I did read the Jake line as being the ONLY positive in the review. The NYT reader reviews are similarly harsh (with a couple of "Jake was okay" type comments, I think, though some of the theatre sites have more generous reader contributions). |

I did not read it as a positive. It was the end of a paragraph that said the Prize for Overacting or something like that went to, the name of the actor escapes me and then Honorable Mention goes to JS who avoided histrionics. In fact it was the only review (and they were all bad) that even mentioned him, good or bad. The audience reviews in the NYTIMES were mostly awful except for a handful that were obviously there to see Jake. Good MorningNY also gave it an awful review. One person said it was the worst cast of actors they have ever seen. I am not a fan of Jake Silbermann at all and do not think he is a very good actor so I am not surprised. I just can't wrap my head around beinga fan of an actor of the caliber of Eric Sheffer Stevens and also being a fan of JS. |

@Sierra, I guess I can see how that could be viewed as "not a positive" (more like backhanded compliment with a very low bar). Jake never did much for me personally, but I can understand his appeal. But, though I like a good organic salad with dried cranberries and artisanal cheeses, I am also addicted to Walkers Smokey Bacon Crisps (that's potato chips to those of you stateside). OTOH, I just can't stand Marmite. It's like comparing apples and oranges....or if I'm being more snarky, there's no accounting for taste(s). ![]() Speaking of which - AE posted a December interview with Jake (I just did a quick scan of this thread and didn't see it linked - can't really believe that!) on a similar topic: AE: Okay, one final question. Who’s a better kisser, Luke or Lucy? JS: [laughs] Apples and oranges. AE: So I can't get you to choose? JS: I could never commit on that one. They’re both lovely! So diplomatic.

P.S. Saw Sierra's post on LRO mentioning other reviews. Here are a few: New York Post: "The woefully inept drama "Dracula," which opened off- Broadway last night, is as close as we get to dinner theater in New York. There's no prime rib, but plenty of grating cheese." am New York: "We’re barely into January, but it’s safe to assume that this puzzling, cheesy and horribly staged revival of 'Dracula' will be remembered as one of the absolute worst productions of the entire year." No stars Associated Press: In the ever-growing glut of vampire stories that permeates pop culture, some things are better left undead. This truth is sadly evident in the new off-Broadway revival of the classic play "Dracula," a disappointingly reserved production that is mostly lifeless — and not in a good way." TheatreMania: "...theatergoers hoping to find a sexy or spine-tingling night with the most famous member of the undead should be advised that director Paul Alexander has served up a horribly anemic if decidedly earnest production of the play, one that's neither atmospherically spooky nor campily funny." More reviews can be found at: http://broadwayworld.com/article/Review_Roundup_DRACULA_20010101 OUCH. With a capital O. I don't think I've ever seen a no-star review before! Maybe Jake should consider himself lucky NOT to be mentioned in these reviews?! Edited by lovelure, Jan 6 2011, 06:27 PM.

Yeah, it is ashame and all but I really thought this was going to tank anyway. Just a feeling I had. There was not one single good review or 'mixed' reviews as some movies get - they were all bad. One reviewer did say that JS 'retained his dignity' so I guess that could be a positive but another said he was 'as stiff as a board' (John Simon for the Yonkers Tribune). Anyway, it has to be a kick in the teeth to read that stuff but that is show business; you positively have to have a tough hide because I imagine it is a real tough business to be in with a lot of disappointments. Anyway, the show is closing on Sunday. |

Avoiding histrionics and retaining his dignity is not a good review; I read all of the reviews including out of town critics; most did not mention him but the above remarks were the best thing said which was hardly a ringing endorsement. He was also reviewed as being bland and stiff as a board. Sorry, so not a fan of his and tired of him being discussed on what is supposed to be an Eric Sheffer Stevens board. |

Getting an honorable mention from that reviewer is definitely a good review. He's a tough cookie (as many a decimated New York theatre actor can tell you). And I was happy JS got good marks overall. I'm sorry the topic upsets you, though. I would probably avoid it (along with reviews and other news about the show) if I wasn't a fan. Since I am a fan of both ESS and JS, and interested in what all the cast members are up to post-ATWT, it's nice to be able to chat about it with folks here. I am looking forward to when Michael Park's show begins, and hopefully getting to that one, too. I think there will be some other takers on that here, as well.
