Hi, Col, Thanh, Kim, Jammi, Jenny (sorry if I've missed anyone else). Thinking of you all a lot - though honestly relieved that I'm not there - I would be SO FARther up the creek if I were. Am buried as it is. Eagerly awaiting pix of hot Van. Can someone ask him to accept my Friend invite? Only kidding, though he's ignored 2 requests so far, so I feel like a stalker! xoxo |

What an amazing night. A night filled with laughter and tears. It was bittersweet for me knowing that a show that I have watched for 30 years is coming to an end. Meeting Dr. Bob & Kim was a dream come true. And Barbara... she is more beautiful in person and she does not age. I met her for the first time 20+ years ago and she hasn't changed. They were all a pleasure to speak with. Van...what can I say. He is extremely good looking and very sweet. He asked me if I was one of the purple ladies because I was wearing a purple shirt. Then he asked if I had gone to Vermont to see Eric's Play, I told him yes, he then said he would have loved to have gone. He asked how it was I told him it was amazing. I cannot believe that I was even able to have that much of a convo with him. Cannot wait for Boston. Henry & Terri were amazing as well. Terri was so excited to see Colleen. It was wonderful to witness that. The tribute that they showed before the Q&A was so touching. Terri brought tears to my eyes several times during the night. And Kim's reaction to finding out that my name was Kim was so incredible for me. They are all so sincere. Thank you everyone from ATWT for all the wonderful memories that I will have for the rest of my life.

Thank you for the updates and photos. I'm so glad that everyone who had the chance went and showed love for all of the actors involved in making us all fans throughout the decades. I just can't quite believe that ATWT will stop airing in the United States on Friday, September 17th. I know that it's silly, but I thought the show would almost out live ME and I'm only 38 years old. |

jc1706 asked me to bring my LROnline commentary here. I didn't know if it was okay since it's a wee bit long and bitchy. Shocking, I know. First, I loved bumping into all the ladies at Paley. I wish I were going to Boston but y'all know my feelings on he who must not be named. The only slightly negative thing. SOMEHOW I got stuck at dinner next to the VH mod who threatened me b/c I was a bit of a meanie to the little girls, lol. Anyways, the actors were wonderful people. I was at the room (someone was kind enough to get me a tix for that space) and I pointedly did NOT clap for JP and CG. Van noticed b/c he looked at me while it was going on. The mike during the meet and greet was not near me but that's okay b/c I reamed CG and JP in the reception. I met Snapegirl (from LRO), she and I played good cop/bad cop. Guess which I was. We first went to JP and Snapegirl praised her favorite stories and then asked if DK created Reid. JP tried to take credit and say that she and DK created him. What a lying bitch! Then Joanne mentioned that we are worried about Reid dying. She praised ESS and Van's acting. At some point I jumped in and told her that as a member of the LGBT, we are GUTTED at the idea of Luke not being happy in the end. She said that not everyone got a pairing in the end and that in the end Luke is a man. That there is an emotional storyline. That’s when I said, “Oh, so you are just doing this for an emmy?! Because that's what it sounds like.” She looked surprised that someone read her like a book. No consideration to the gay community or Luke fans if he gets a sad ending. I kept on pushing that comment and she implied that it's not because he's gay that Luke gets his ending. Around that time this cuntrag grabs Lucky Gold and said that he had co-head writing duties with her. Basically, she wants to take credit for creating Reid and then she wants Lucky Gold to take the blame for what happens in the end. She wouldn’t confirm or deny the sprumor but she got the message that killing Reid and making Luke miserable is an INSULT to the gay community. Her expression told me that no ONE has mentioned the possiblity to her stupid ass. She had mentioned to someone that another party goer had gotten pissed about some other inane shit she did. I do believe she now realizes what she got into if Reid dies. Lucky Gold is on the shit list too. My impression is that she stopped writing for ATWT in March and then just had an idea that the show ends with a birth, wedding and death and gave the idea about Reid. NO thought to fan reaction OR fan feeling. She was SO disconnected that I doubt she even understands our love for Luke and our interest in him being happy. Van and Eric served a purpose, she wants her Emmy and boy was I glad to read her on the obvious. Then we went on toward CG. Joanne did her nice bit and then she asked him about the tv guide interview. He CLAIMS that we should watch b/c it’s about the how its the journey or some lame shit. And that we can interpret his tvguide comments anyway we want. Joanne told him that the rumor was that Reid gives his heart to Chris (IIRC). I do know that I informed him that it made NO SENSE AT ALL to kill off Reid. He goes, “if the show continued Reid and Luke would be a supercouple, yada yada”. I said something to the effect that his comment sounded "RIDICULOUS. Then why not give Luke a happy ending if that’s the case?" He wouldn’t confirm or deny anything but I gave him the message that he’s a dumb twat and that I’m only one of the first who will on his back if this shit transpires. He had his syncopantic smile during the vid when he talked about the marriage, birth and death but I do believe the smile was wiped. Honestly, these people are so in the bubble that I doubt they considered anything besides getting one last hurrah. They CORRECTLY realized that ESS and Van could bring it even if the story is shit. I always thought that in most stories, boys become men b/c their dad's die, which is one reason I thought Damien would die. Oh no, these fools showed that they never cared about fan wishes. It's all about plot and what will get them a nom. Van told Snapegirl that she has to watch to the end when she asked him about the Reid sprumor. The actors were all not giving a thing except Terri said something to Snapegirl about sad/emotional scenes. JP only talked about everything was making Luke into a man. I guess no gay man is a MAN unless he's miserable and alone or dead...let's not forget dead. Thanks, ya' dumb heiffer. Ultimately, I'm happy I went. Got to meet great people and got to ream the two morons in charge. Oh, if they hadn’t realized it would be stupid to kill Reid months ago, I think they realize their mistake now. Snapegirl instigated everything and was so good at getting the convo flowing to the spot where we could basically note that their writing and decision making on this had nothing to do with the characters or fans, it had to do with their one last ditch effort at an Emmy. BTW, I'm not being facetious. IF Reid dies and Luke is unhappy in the end, it was all a Hail Mary pass for JP and CG to get an Emmy. This had nothing to do with fanbases or satisfying anyone except their own professional goals. They knew that the two actors who could play their dialogue and have the chemistry to turn shit to sugar were ESS and VH. PS I told JP that I NEVER liked Noah. That Jake was nice but that Noah was toxic and bad for Luke or something to that effect. She laughed that fool. I know people are probably nice about Noah but I HAD to tell her that the character she created was SHIT and badly written (besides badly acted). She'll kill OLTL In a year. She's already started. She's not long for the soap world. We must make sure that Lucky Gold NOT get another soap gig. Goutman knows his time has run out. Everybody knows he's an asshole. Just look at Jake's Fairman interview for how he oh so nicely indicates it. PS One of the saddest things is that CG and JP were hedging. They DON'T fully believe the ending either which is why they are idiots and are now trying to save face. Goutman continues to repeat that if the show hadn't ended that Luke/Reid would have been a supercouple a couple for the ages. Well then why the fuck do what he did to them in the end? JP herself has no contact with the story and basically knows what's best for Luke and YET she approved some shit ending JUST to get a nomination herself. AT least if either HAD conviction or thought as to the point of it all, I could disagree and respect them. Alas, ALL i saw was NO conviction and more of a slot A goes in Slot B and this will get me my emmy nom. I really hope we are wrong on this but, it's not surprising when you have a pathetic, old, drunk, washed up clueless hack and a syncopant running the show. |

It was definitely cathartic for me jc1706. Now I can just find sick humor (what stage of grief is that one!) in some supposed tragedy. BTW: Wanted to mention the real positive. The actors! I was really shy about meeting Van because I've admired his work for years but I really needed to tell him that I personally felt that his breathing life to Luke was important for our community. I got to tell him that I had been an old time viewer but he and Luke brought me back b/c we queers finally had representation! I did mention that my two favorite storylines were the Luke coming out and Reid. Told him I LOVED this s/. Guess he agrees. None of our pics came out. I made a joke about the camera person taking a long shot since I'm better body than face and he said I was beautiful. That was so sweet of him. I even got a hug which I'm not one to be that physical with people I don't know, but he was really approachable. Great looking guy. So glad to meet him. Hope I can see him do theatre in NYC soon. Colleen Zink is such a goddess. OMG! I just can't believe how truly stunning she is in person. All the actors were, in fact. Seriously, they look better in person. Okay, was I the only one surprised that Austin Peck has a bald spot? ha, I would make a snarky comment about karma but I'll keep my piehole shut. He said he really preferred Brad to Austin in DooL. Interesting. Trent is such a lean mean fighting machine. So very handsome and approachable. He was totally mobbed. Also got a hug. Now that I think of it I was all up these people's grilles with the hugs. Oops. I was SO excited to meet Don and Kathryn Hays. Wow. Don Hastings was really cool and he laughed when I joked about how I was aging myself by telling him how long I've watched him. I got a few pics with everyone except CZ, Terri and Eileen Fulton. That's okay, it was such a great evening and I'm so happy I actually went since I was on the fence for a bit. Once again, this is an amazing fandom and it's fab spending time with y'all. |

Paley Recap The evening started with the photos in the lobby the Jolie posted. While that was going on, we took our seats in an auditorium that holds 200. The excitement as the actors entered the room was palpable. All in the room seemed to be so aware in that moment that we were lucky to be part of something special. The moderator started with a montage from the shows 54 plus years that finally made up for the travesty of the Emmy tribute. For some of us, it was a trip through our own lives as we recalled what it was that brought us to the show (in my case, Nana and Mom). For newer fans, it was a chance to see exactly what this show has meant in the tapestry of television history. After the montage, the moderator began to ask questions of the panel. He started with Eileen Fulton (who is a trip and a half) on what it was like to start on the show. She, Don and Kathryn told stories of what is was like to do the show live which seemed to captivate Van, Terri and Trent. Trent at one point expressed that he would have liked to have done at least one episode, preferably the last, live. Goutman explained how that was not possible these days, particularly from the studio in Brooklyn. While I have read the story numerous times of what happened the day JFK was assassinated, to hear Don tell it in person and the emotion that you could hear in his voice was an experience I will treasure. This man was part of history and to hear him share it gave me chills. The moderator continued with questions of folks favorite and least favorite scenes. Trent had the funniest stories as we all know he has been in some of the funniest situations on the show! As Jenny mentioned, Colleen wore a dress that she had worn on the show in the mid 80s. Terri spoke of how hard it is to say goodbye to Katie who has become a friend to her. Kathryn stopped to acknowledge the crew who were sitting in the first few rows and introduced them to the audience as the family. It gave me such pleasure to hear them talk about each other as we feel about them. These folks have comes into our lives for years and been part of our extended families. All cast members were asked their favorite storylines. Colleen and Trent are very partial to working together. You can see an easy rapport and real love that they have for bringing the story to life. Terri was appreciative of Brad’s death because, hard as it was to shoot, it allowed her to stretch her wings as an actress. My favorite response was from Van who cited his current storyline as the best he has worked on and his personal favorite. He did not expand but those of us who love LuRe nearly jumped out of our seats with pleasure It was the special moment we all needed. There was Q & A with the audience but I can’t think of one question worth sharing. As a matter of fact, it was an awkward part of the evening The reception was a lovely opportunity to mingle with the actors. They were all so gracious. As I have been lucky to have met them all before, it was very special for me to watch my friends from the fan base as they met them for the first time. I truly believe that the cast of ATWT is the nicest on television. I will likely think of more to say but wanted to get my thoughts out there while fresh. Nicely detailed, Col. Beautifully describes the GOOD things we'll remember about the show. Almost makes me feel like I was a little elf on your shoulder watching it all myself. :-) |

Wow, CG really said that if the show had continued, Reid/Luke would've been a supercouple, then said that we could take his tvguide interview however we wanted? o_O Dude's a mass of contradictions, isn't he?*shakes head* I wonder what his response is/would be to Nuke fans who ask the same thing, if it'd be the same or if he'd tell them their couple would be IT if the show'd continued too? I'm surprised he said that much about them, really. And even more surprised since it makes no freaking sense now that Reid would end up like he does given this. Weird/half-assed all-around. Random things from The Paley Center event last night: I can definitely see why Eric loved talking to Don Hastings about the old days of ATWT. It was truly fascinating, hearing all their memories/experiences over the years. Don is a flippin riot, omg! I swear he & Eileen Fulton could definitely start their own comedy team & I'd be all over that. They talked about what it was like to film the show live & when it was only 30 minutes long. He was like "I used to be 6'7"!" Haha. He also said something about how they filmed above Grand Central Station & sometimes the plates in a hutch they had in one of the sets (or the hutch itself) would shake & they'd all look at their watches & be like "Train's right on time today." Eileen also thanked CG for giving Lisa the 50th Anniversary episode, which was touching. I also remember Don liking the storyline where he & Kim found out they had a daughter they didn't know existed. Kathryn was talking about coming on when it was live too. She said she wasn't comfortable with Kim at 1st. She also said that one day, she observed a scene where Eileen didn't necessarily say the words exactly like they were written on the page, but she was impressed because she felt like she observed Eileen taking Lisa *off* the page & making the character her own. It was a really beautiful moment. Made me tear up a bit. Kathryn also had me tearing up a bit when she said she looked out into the 1st 2 rows of the audience & saw a lot of their ATWT family sitting there & how they'd been there for each other for so many years. Colleen Zenk-Pinter is seriously gorgeous IRL. Somehow I found myself standing right in front of her at the reception & I couldn't stop staring. She was all excited too during the panel because Barbara FINALLY got rescued! Like seriously excited. It was awesome. And she talked about how Anthony Herrera is her "fictional husband" and she's his "fictional wife" - they call each other this IRL - and she seems to hold him in the highest regard. She was also talking about coming on in 1978 & Douglas Marland. How Barbara "went from being a doormat to a bitch on wheels" practically overnight. LOL. Douglas Marland really got the entire panel's respect & if I'm not mistaken, some of their favorite storylines came from his time there. Terri Columbino kept crying, which was sad. She feels like it's hard to say goodbye to Katie because she's like a real person to her (her "imaginary friend" lol). I remember she said something about how the characters memories have become her memories as well, which make it even more meaningful for her, sharing these memories. Something like that. Her & Trent both really liked Katie/Henry both as bff's & a romantic pairing, and CZP joked & was like "He's mine now!" And of course there was mention of Henry's time as Geneva Swift & something about a storyline where there was 3 pregnancies at once. And Austin Peck talked too from the audience about how much he liked playing Brad & the opportunity given to him to play this character.CG said something about how the more he knew the actors as people, the easier it was to write for their characters & the easier it was to come up with stories for them that play on their strengths & weaknesses, which I found interesting. And a little scary if he actually believes this, because some of his stories are truly batshit. He & JP both seemed like surprisingly nice people though from the panel anyway, even if not so great show-runners. Van was amazing, as always. He just seems to glow. I was a nervous wreck & totally had to get in there & just assert myself a bit to get his attention, which I did, eventually, after I fangirled to myself, Kim & Jill for awhile. I don't even know why now, cause he's just Van, just a normal, dorky guy who I just happen to admire a lot from his work. And the entire reception, people kept coming up to him, basically cornered him in this section right by the elevators & that's where he stayed the entire time, but he never once said no to anyone asking for a pic - even said it was his pleasure - & chatted with everyone with a smile on his face. He really is just a great guy (and really freaking cute in person too! omg, I'd somehow managed to forget that fact). We had a funny conversation about Silly bands, my friends & I. His godson gave him one & he asked about my friend's as well & he was like "They're popular with *children*. Let's be real here."Edited by HiddenVixen22, Aug 19 2010, 06:32 PM.

It was awfully gracious of Eileen to "thank" Goutman for the anniversary episode, considering it in no way did justice to her legendary contribution to the show. She's at the top of the list of those I'll miss the most. |

Thanks LoveLure for this. ![]() It was strange. I was standing out front waiting for it to begin. As you know I had been watching for 30 years got started because my grandmother was into the CBS soaps. My grandparents and I never saw too much of eachother basically we just saw them on birthday's and holiday's the sort of thing that now I wish I could go back and have spent more time with them now that they are gone. But the one thing I can remember is my grandmother when I would speak to her on the phone she would talk about ATWT. So I am standing outside of Paley and I can actually hear her voice talking to me about the show. I hear her telling me about "That Nasty Craig"... lol... It was bittersweet. I actually was standing there getting teary eyed. Thanks again for the good wishes. I miss you Wish you could have been there with us.

Col, Thanks for this beautiful recap. ITA about Dr. Bob. It was wonderful to listen to him speak about the old days. Something I will cherish for years to come. And the Q&A you were dead on. No questions even worth mentioning. Amazing Magical Night!

Truly wonderful to read all your stories and see such gorgeous pics! @ Colleen, I'm so NOT surprised that Terri was so excited to see you. Really lovely for you. I've been watching this soap since like 1981 when I was an exchange student in Michigan (I'm from Holland) and discovered soaps and got hooked on ATWT and then onwards when I moved to Canada and then back in Holland when it aired there. It took a while before we got them in Europe. Anyhow, it's like saying goodbye to good friends and I can imagine how special it was to be part of such an event. It does feel odd that my absolute favourite lovestory is now ending on such a sad note but there it is. I guess the most important thing is what it touched in your heart. |

Cloud9 you are absolutely right and I think sometimes when we are sad or angry about this we forget how amazing it is that we all were so affected by this love story. It touched a lot of people and helped create a lot of wonderful friendships. |
