Beings of the Higher Plane
For simplicity's sake, let's call them Angels. They are beings of love, free will, and creation. Though they can take physical form, they are essentially spiritual beings. There is a hierarchy to their different types, for which most people just use the familiar terms like “seraphim” and “cherubim”. In their natural visual manifestations (not necessarily physical), they often appear as bright and/or winged humanoids, though not all take this appearance. Some look like clusters of wings and eyes, or winged beasts, or simply orbs of light. When walking among humans, they try to take on shapes that humans can easily comprehend and recognize, mostly to put them at ease. For this reason, most of them appear human themselves, with or without wings depending on present company. They have no known weaknesses, except for their compassion. They will willingly offer themselves to a demon in order to protect a living being.

Aeons
These are the highest powers in the Higher Plane, aside from perhaps the great, unnamed force of Creation. They always come in pairs, and represent the balance of all things. These pairs (often represented as male and female, but not always) work behind the scenes in the Higher Plane to maintain the balance of things in the universe, and only descend to the physical planes (like Earth) if a great imbalance has occurred. Not all of these balances are what you might think of as “opposites”, but they are forces that must remain in a certain proportion to each other. If an Aeon vanishes because of a catastrophic imbalance in the universe, its partner will usually go mad and descend into Mara Nocnitsa to become one of the Fallen. When Aeons do walk upon the earth, they appear as beautiful, androgynous humans (though they do usually choose a gender) with a faint glow to them. They don't glow in the dark, per se, but they always appear as if the light that shines upon them is not from this world.

Note: Aeons are only playable by admin approval. Please PM the Director with your concept before creating an Aeon. It is also recommended that you either create the entire pair yourself, or have a friend create the other half of the pair. There are no single Aeons.

Seraphim
These are the highest order of angels in the Higher Plane, being closest to the Aeons. In their celestial forms, they are made of “divine flame” (though some might go with the scientific terms of plasma or lightning) and have what appear to be six translucent, golden wings. In earthly form, they appear as ordinary humans, and sometimes will display their golden wings to identify themselves to other angels (or demons). Their purpose is to preserve free will in the universe, and thus they act as defenders of humankind against the denizens of Mara Nocnitsa.

Cherubim
Just below the Seraphim are the Cerubim, which are the record-keepers of the Higher Plane. They rarely descend to earth, and generally resemble a cluster of peacock feathers with actual blinking eyes, and several pairs of wings to keep them aloft. Due to popular art, they do sometimes take the form of chubby little children with tiny blue wings when on earth, but only because they like the imagery. Originally, they just came to earth as a big ball of wings and eyes. The only reason they take on physical form and visit the earthly plane is to verify that the other angels are doing their jobs properly. You know, for the records.

Genii
These are guardian angels assigned to specific intelligent beings. Not a lot of people notice their genii (singular: genius), and that's fine with them. Genii are generally invisible, though they are sometimes captured in photos as mysterious orbs of light. Usually, a genii only takes a visible, independent form if it is separated from its assigned creature somehow (usually death, but some might be severed if the human is transformed in some way, either by a vampire or a shifter). Severed genii either return to the Higher Plane, or spend some time checking out the earthly plane. A very few are trapped on Earth, or wind up in Mara Nocnitsa, where they become lesser demons. They appear to be ordinary humans in physical form, with vivid blue, green, or red eyes. The color of their eyes is decided by how good or wicked their assigned human is in life.

Archons
Arguably some of the most powerful beings that come to the human world from the Higher Plane, the Archons are the type of angel that are specifically charged with keeping order in the heavens. As of late, their duties mostly consist of working with the ESPers in the closing and monitoring of rifts. They appear as tall, well-built humans (think Greek statues) with bright, metallic-colored eyes. Their vision is divinely strengthened even in their physical forms, allowing them to see the normally invisible rifts and identify creatures from the otherworlds. Though they usually keep them hidden, Archons have a single pair of feathered wings in physical form that have a faintly liquid metallic sheen, like mercury. Archons have an intimidating presence, and are usually fairly stoic, or at least very reserved with their emotions.

Opinici
Guardians of the Higher Planes, these creatures never venture into the physical realm unless it is to retrieve a wayward angel (usually severed genii). They appear to be great winged lions the size of draft horses, normally, but they have been known to take on more human forms in order to blend in better. Even humanoid, they have fierce, leonine features and odd-colored eyes (one gold, one blue, is the norm). Very rarely, an opinicus will be assigned to a specific angel for extended observation before retrieval, and will be expected to carry on a human lifestyle in the meantime.

Lamassu
The gatekeepers of the Higher Planes. They never descend to the physical realm, for they never leave their posts. A lamassu appears as a great, winged bull with the face of a man. They are quite intelligent and will not allow any being that is not an angel to pass through the rift gates.

Note: Playable only in the Higher Planes forum. Not recommended for player characters, but not forbidden.
