A BRIEF HISTORY

Celestre had once been a collection of territories ruled by various Lords who had risen to power along with their Warrior companions. These territories were constantly feuding with each other over land, trade, and policies. They answered to no one ruler, and it seemed like the land was doomed to be trapped in a state of constant conflict forever.

Nearly three hundred years ago, a Lord rose up in a campaign to unite the territories and bring them all under one rule. With his Warrior companion at his side, this Lord commanded the respect of all, and it was under his guidance that the territories were merged and the Kingdom of Celestre was born. That Lord--known since that time simply as the Great One--became the first king of Celestre, and all those who have become the sovereign of Celestre since his death have been his direct descendants. Currently, the king is the fifth generation of ruler since the Great One himself.

Having a military-heavy government has caused its degree of problems for Celestre. Lords and their respective Warriors are constantly at odd with those of different views, and often these disputes turn violent. The soldiers of the kingdom can only do so much to keep the peace, and it is becoming more and more commonplace for fights to break out in the streets. The king, for his part, seems to be doing precious little to prevent these fights, and a faction of rebels has been gathering strength with the intention of overthrowing the current establishment in favor of one that might end the in-fighting and careless slaughter.

THE CASTES

In Celestre, there has always been a caste system in place even before the kingdom was united. This caste system has three levels: Lord, Warrior, and Lost. One can be born into either the Lord or Warrior caste, but anyone can become Lost under certain conditions.

Lords are not necessarily all born into noble families, though the first of their numbers were indeed members of the nobility of their territories. Their defining feature is their ability to learn the magical arts. Each Lord has the potential to use two types of elemental magic, but they can never learn how to use a physical weapon beyond the skill of a total novice.

Warriors are trained at an early age how to use a variety of weapons, though by the time they reach adulthood, they usually have specialized into one or two preferred weapons. They have no affinity for magic, and they are only able to use ready-made spells through scrolls or magical items.

Lost were once Lords and Warriors, though they have lost their partner (see THE BOND for further details). All Lost are insane in same aspect, and they have been exiled from civilized society. They live in colonies in the wilderness, left alone by the Lords and Warriors to go about their miserable existence in whatever peace they can manage in their largely anarchic settlements. Their colonies are avoided by the Lords and Warriors, since it is not above a Lost to murder a Lord or Warrior to convert their partner into a new Lost. Misery loves company, after all.

There is a rumored fourth caste known as the Found. They are strictly the stuff of legend, and it is said that a Found can become skilled in using both physical weapons and magic. Their power is greater than any single Lord or Warrior--perhaps even both together--if they even exist.

THE BOND

Each Lord has a Warrior that they are connected to by a force known as the Bond, and vice versa. This Bond is a psychic connection between a Lord and a Warrior, and it is an integral part of the culture in Celestre. There are four levels of a Bond, and each gives those who have that level particular benefits.

Fourth Class
- A Fourth Class Bond is the weakest class of Bond between a Lord and a Warrior. This is the stage of Bond that those two castes are born with. They have not yet met their counterpart, though they share dreams on occasion when they sleep. It is possible for them to meet in those dreams, and it is often the means that a paired Lord and Warrior first interact with each other. They also have a vague sense of direction that can lead them to their counterpart, though most find each other through their dream interactions. The death of a Lord or Warrior at this level of Bond would be felt by the other, but they would be able to lead a relatively normal life. They would not be considered one of the Lost, but would remain a Lord or Warrior. They just don't have a counterpart.

Third Class
- A Third Class Bond occurs after the Lord and Warrior have met in person. A ceremony is performed to make their Bond official and public. At this stage of a Bond, the Lord and Warrior are able to sense when the other is near, and even get an idea of their exact location. It is also possible for the Lord and Warrior to get a minor sense of each other's emotions. This is the most common level of Bond. A death of a counterpart at this level of Bond would cause considerable emotional trauma for the one left behind. They would be considered one of the Lost, but they are able to pass as being normal if they try. Usually these Lost reject their exile and try to live among civilized society in secret.

Second Class
- A Second Class Bond occurs after a Lord and Warrior have been Bonded for a number of years. They are very strong, and it is difficult for a Lord and Warrior to be far away from each other at this level of a Bond. They are readily able to feel each other's emotions, and they are sometimes able to see through their counterpart's eyes. Many older persons have this level of Bond. A death at this level of Bond results in the severe insanity of the one left behind. They are unmistakably Lost.

First Class
- A First Class Bond cannot get any stronger. The Lord and Warrior are inseparable, and they are considered by both society and law to be the same entity. They can hear each other's thoughts, and they can see through each other's eyes at will. This level of Bond is exceedingly rare. Only a small percentage of Lords and Warriors will ever reach this level of closeness. Losing one's counterpart at this level would result in the death of the one left behind.

MAGIC AND SPELLS

Magical items can be anything and everything, though they are always tied to a particular element and have one spell attached to them. A Warrior can use a magical item to cast just that single spell. (Example: a sword with a fire enchantment that makes it burst into flames at the wielder's command)

Scrolls are more common than magical items among those Warriors who wish to have a spell or two at their disposal. Like magical items, they have a particular element and spell tied to them. Scrolls are a one-shot item. As soon as the spell on the scroll has been casted, the scroll becomes a normal piece of blank parchment.

The above are usually utilized by Warriors, but sometimes Lords are known to carry scrolls with spells from an element for which they do not have an affinity. It is a useful tool for them, and when a Lord uses a scroll, it has the chance to recharge after a while.

Lords have affinities with one or two types of elemental magic, and they have up to three spells that they have perfected, though raw control of that element is possible without working a specific spell. It is just more taxing on the Lord. The types of available magics are as follows:

Fire - summoning and controlling fire
Water - summoning and controlling fire
Frost - freezing existing water and chilling the air
Wind - creating breezes of various strengths
Earth - manipulation of the ground and stone
Lightning - summoning and controlling electricity
Light - summoning and controlling light
Shadow - summoning and controlling shadow
Life - controlling plants/animals and healing wounds

Lords who have only one affinity are more powerful in that affinity than those who have their talents split between two, but those with two have a primary affinity that is more powerful than their secondary. Lords can only use spells that coincide with their affinity, which gives a slight advantage to those who have two, since their spells can be more complex. For instance, a Lord with Fire and Earth magic can create lava, or a Lord with Fire and Water can create steam. Otherwise, the Lord would have to heat the ground or have water available to heat. They can't summon it without the materials already present.

Spell creation is limited only by the Lord's ingenuity. Some example spells are as follows:

Summon Water - Water - The Lord summons up to a five gallons of water.
Tremor - Earth - The Lord causes the earth to shake in an area no larger than a 10-foot radius circle.
Mend Flesh - Life - The Lord causes a wound to close with a touch.
Electrify Steel - Lightning - The Lord sends a jolt of electricity through a metal object.
Icicle Rain - Water/Frost - The Lord summons a cloud of sharp icicles which rain down on a foe.
Flash - Light - The Lord summons a flash of light to blind foes.

The list certainly extends beyond those, but those are some examples of spells. You can create your own, so long as they are not too powerful. However, if you choose to have only one affinity, you can have your spells be stronger. For instance, a secondary fire affinity could summon a palm's worth a fire, a primary fire affinity could summon a campfire's worth, and a single fire affinity could summon a bonfire's worth.

More powerful spells take more energy to cast than weaker ones, and they also take more time. Not much more time, granted, but even a few seconds of delay can cause problems in dangerous situations. Rushing a powerful spell is possible, but it makes the spell more draining than it would otherwise be.

When listing a spell on the character sheet, please use the following format:

[Spell Name] - [Spell Affinity] - [Power Level] / [Casting Time]
[Concentration Level] / [Spell Duration]
[Effect Description]

Example:

Cyclone - Wind - High / 10 seconds
Total Concentration / 60 seconds
Winds build into a 50ft high, 5ft radius cyclone which the Lord can actively control.

(Obviously the above is a powerful spell, but if someone happened to break the Lord's concentration during the casting, the spell would fail.)

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION

Currency

Celestre operates on a bronze, silver, gold, and platinum currency system, in order of least worth. The conversion scale is as follows:

10 Bronze = 1 Silver
10 Silver = 1 Gold
100 Gold = 1 Platinum

You'll notice that Platinum is far more valuable than the other currencies. It is a rare material in Celestre, and it was only recently added to the list of currency. Hence why it is most valuable. The rich are the only ones who actively trade in platinum. Those of the lower classes tend to keep their money in the form of gold at the highest. Usually the lower-class people keep to silver and bronze, though. Most day-to-day needs can be met with bronze pieces alone.

Age: (keep in mind your Bond Class when deciding)(likely won't be younger than 30 if you have a 2nd Class Bond)

THE RULES

- Respect the GM and the other roleplayers.
- Obey the EL ToS.
- No god-moding, power-playing, etc.
- Do not kill another person's character without their permission. Auto-hitting is also not permitted without getting approval beforehand.
- Post the Character Sheets in the OOC topic for approval. Do not post in the IC topic unless your character has been approved.
- Keep the in-topic material at a PG-13 to low-R level. Any strong R-rated material should be time lapsed or taken to PMs. On that note, strong language, violence, and some romantic material (not exceeding the low-R cap) is permitted.
- If you join, please be active. Do not go for several days without posting unless you have posted a reason for your absence before your lack of activity. We will not be waiting days on end for a post if we do not know why you've been inactive.
- Please post at least two paragraphs. Literacy is a wonderful thing. Typos and the like happen, but please try to keep them to a minimum. Absolutely no one-liners, please!
- Most importantly of all, have fun!
- These rules may be changed as needed. I will let you know if I have changed/added something.

Stuff is looking good thus far after a cursory glance. Though Dream, I'd prefer it if you edited so other Lords can potentially see through the Illusion. They'd be able to tell that something magical is going on, unless the Illusion is so believable that they don't suspect it.

I am planning on making a Lord. My only hangup is the age thing. Unless by some fluke of fake, your character didn't have a counterpart that existed until somewhat recently. I actually think it would be hilarious if your counterpart is a kid.

I'm gonna be a Lord too haha. I'm not paired up with anyone but if I'd be more than happy to create another character to fit, otherwise I'll be solo for some of the RP till someone comes along and wants to be paired up with my Lord :)

@ Comrade - It's not yet on the scale of a full-fledged war, but in some areas of Celestre, there have been open skirmishes between city militias and the rebels. A proper civil war is likely to result in the near future. The skirmishes have not yet occurred in or around the capitol--which would likely result in the war officially starting--but it's only a matter of time before it happens.
