Dystopian / Fantasy / Action / Supernatural Advanced to Expert
The earth has never been as it seemed.
___
New York, 2020.
When you pass a bustling world, stairs leading to an underground room appear. A smell like baked Chinese sweets pervades and the door, painted thickly in shocking pink, reverberates with a hysterical singing voice. You are strange and fast, your movements a little too jerky. Something is pulling you. Someone.
“Hey.”
“Hey.”
You stop. You are arrested, frozen. Somewhere between the fluorescent lights and black walls, somewhere underneath the linoleum and high pitched wails, there is a voice.
“Hey.”
It is anywhere and everywhere. It is coming from before you, behind you. From your left and right, above you and below you—from within you and—
“Hey.”
You spin. Once. Twice. Your heart is thumping, your palms grow damp. You swallow. Are you on drugs? Is there something you need? Where are you? The voice is too calm, too sweet. You cannot move.
“Hey.”
Breathe.
“Hey. What are you looking for?”
___
I want a writer who’s given up on the moral of the story, one who’ll hand me a knife and sit back to see what I do with it.
Antonia Clark, excerpt from A Book I Can Put Down
___

SETTING
The year is 2020... The year is 2020. Humanity exists within a dystopia, its dreams of technological glory and advancement put to a halt as overpopulation, war, disease and poverty ravage any hope for the future. For relief and pleasure, humanity has abandoned nearly all traces of religion and, surprisingly, science – and have turned to what could almost be described as a savage state of being – sex, drugs, and violence. Education is offered only to the wealthy, and the death rate has spiralled out of control. There is a global endemic of apathy, a sickening, animal-like acceptance of death. There is no spirit, no soul, no hope, no ambition.
Yet within this world, three societies exist, waiting. They are the Watchers, the Order of the Saints, and the Paroch.
FACTIONS
Watchers, Saints, Paroch, Citizens, Gods The Watchers
An ancient society of ageless nomads who exist to maintain balance on Earth. This balance is achieved by an equal amount of what they call Light and Being – the Spiritual and the Physical. Although they do not age, they can die by being pierced through the heart. The group was formed during 1000 B.C at the start of the Iron Age by the Archangel Michael. Upon joining, they were given a choice to live a mortal life with the future of having their own family, or to live ageless as a Watcher. As such, they cannot reproduce without giving up the title of Watcher. Choosing to have a family will mean that they are no longer ageless. Some believe the Watchers themselves to be angels, but this claim has never been proven.
Light: Energy achieved through means of spiritual practices. May take forms of religion, prayer, reflection, meditation, or visiting sacred sites. The energy that results from these activities is powerful and can be used for self-enlightenment, spiritual knowledge, or for sinister purposes. Extreme involvement in Light for selfish purposes can result in “Nirvana” – an unlocking of a high percentage of the brain and what are seen as “supernatural” abilities. If the world was to tilt to an absolute of Light, worldwide destruction would ensue from power-hungry superhumans.
Being: Energy achieved through an immersion with nature and society. May take forms of deep human relationship and interaction, care and concern for nature, and an appreciation and indulgence of the five senses. The energy that results from this is calming and can be used for deeper bonds or escape from Light. Extreme involvement in Being at the expense of Light can result in a future inability to access Light, leading to spiritual blindness, emotional trauma or numbness, and purposelessness. If the world was to tilt to an absolute of Being, worldwide destruction would ensue from a lack of will to survive.
It is the job of the Watchers to ensure that the humans are living in a balanced state of Light and Being, and those who abuse the energies are kept in line or dispensed of.
Most Watchers travel in pairs, yet regularly gather for meetings and know each other well. If a Watcher’s pair dies, they will also eventually die and pass onto the next life. In total, there are 6 Watchers in 2020, reduced from the original 70.
The Order of the Saints
A religious organization of a slightly more radical and outspoken Judeo-Christian stance which emerged during the Renaissance era. The Order of the Saints possess knowledge of the Watchers, and provide healing and refuge when needed. Most of the Saints are gifted in healing or prophecy, and are discipled not to misuse it. They act in love, yet are trained for battle when necessary to protect the Watchers.
The Saints live in monasteries around the world, and are seen by the public as common nuns or monks, of which they do not mind. In 2020, there are 239 that exist within 8 monasteries. The monasteries are located in:
San Francisco, USA. Montreal, Canada. Durban, South Africa. Warsaw, Poland. St. Petersburg, Russia. Seoul, South Korea. Quezon City, Philippines. Auckland, New Zealand.
The Paroch
A power-hungry group that emerged in the 80s, the Paroch are extremely powerful individuals led by one who calls himself the Ascendant. They, unlike the Saints, train vigorously to tap into Nirvana, aiming to possess supernatural abilities without concern for the balance of Light and Being. They are normal humans from normal families who have heard or been lured into joining the Paroch.
Their goal is to bring back the age of the ancient gods – Egyptian, Greek, Norse. What truly fuels them is their hatred and disdain for modern society - the over-secularization and the return to a savage way of being. The Paroch wish to establish themselves as the new Pantheon of gods. Their number is unknown, and their headquarters is somewhere in Manhattan.
Citizens
Normal people who have stumbled onto the Watchers.
The Gods
NPCs - The gods refer to the pantheon of the mythological gods (the RP will specifically feature Egyptian, Norse and Greco-Roman gods). They are not really supernatural gods, but superhumans who had tapped deeply into Nirvana, misused it, and caused the world to be tipped dangerously off balance. As a result, the Watchers destroyed some, and made pacts with the others -- the surviving gods can keep their agelessness, as long as they never access Nirvana again. Most gods are living in hermitage, or are severely deformed.
PLAYABLE CHARACTERS
Descriptions & Roles The Watchers
All relatively serious in nature, the titles are there mainly to represent the relationships they have with each other that have developed over millenia. So while the comedian might crack a lot of jokes when he's with the other Watchers, when the job needs to be done, he delivers. Plus they all look really intimidating to outsiders. Think practical clothes of grey/white with accents of gold and bronze, and a handful of melee weapons, guns, and strange, ancient trinkets and jewellery. Each Watcher has a gold circle imprinted on their throat, just above their collarbone. Although they possess weapons, their preferred method of combat is hand-to-hand and martial arts. Their hair colour is normal, but their eyes are strangely coloured. THEY DO NOT HAVE WINGS AND THEY CANNOT FLY. They can, however, jump very high and for long distances. But they don't jump around everywhere, so... y'know.
The Brooding Leader [ Taken ] The Bitch [ Taken ]
The Charming D-Bag [ Taken ] The Sweetheart [ Taken ]
The Comedian The Tough Loner
The Order of the Saints
Mysterious and religious. They are most likely garbed in robes of brown/orange/red. Neither male nor female keep their hair shorter than shoulder length, and the men are always clean-shaven. The women wear their hair tightly wound around their heads in braids, and often wear head coverings. Although they are garbed in religious wear, some carry weapons and guns for self-protection. Some have taken oaths of silence and celibacy.
Elder 1 [ Taken ] Elder 2 Disciple 1 [ Taken ] Disciple 2
The Paroch
Yep, you guessed it -- they wear black. Black everything, with accents of silver. Trenchcoats, boots, gloves, all that jazz. They also possess ancient artefacts in the form of trinkets and jewellery like the Watchers, and also a lot of melee weapons and guns, but are more on the gun side of things. Some are proficient in hand-to-hand combat but again, prefer guns. Both males and females wear their hair short and cropped close to their head, and have carved and tattooed ritualistic art onto their skin.
The Ascendant [ Taken ] Soldier 1 [ Taken ] Soldier 2 Soldier 3 Soldier 4
The Citizens
Normal people! Wooo. And when I say normal, I mean normal. No red eyes, blue skin, none of that.
Maximum number of 4 - 2 girls, 2 boys.
College Student - History [ Taken ] Popular Kid Miscalleneous [ Taken ] Miscalleneous [ Taken ]

Ooo, Lacella you make it hard to decide what I want to apply for (It's between Watcher:The Sweetheart or The Paroch). Clever girl, you. I'm definitely interested, though. :]
EDIT: Scratch that. Okay, you do make it hard but I'm going to challenge myself to be a nice person within an RP... (I've only ever had one other sweetheart character and even she has a bite n' bark). I'll start working on a sheet for the Sweetheart of the Watchers. :]

comrade, that's a gorgeous character with a really rich history. it's great to see someone playing in an asian background! my only qualm is a small one and easily changed -- her clothing.
the watchers are going to be dressing in whites/greys/golds/bronze - it's more of a uniform than a personal preference. however, i love the fact that you've given her a kind of punk edge style, so maybe we can come to a compromise?
i'm thinking along the lines of exactly the same style, but replacing it with white, like so:
examples
that way, she'd still be in uniform, but with her own personal style!
also, welcome emma, glad to see you're interested!

I'm all over this. Give me a mo', and I'll edit this little post here to have a character on it.
As a forewarning, I shall claim that there History student. Being a history nerd myself, I think I'll enjoy the role! Not to mention, I've studied ancient Greek culture and literature (namely Athenian, during the classical period), so I should be allll over this. PREPARE YOURSELF.
Rebecca Sarvaas, student of ancient history Role within Group: Historian/Student
Name: Rebecca Sarvaas Age: 20 Gender: Female Place of Birth: New Melbourne, Australia Ethnicity: Australian, Italian and Greek heritage. Appearance: Standing about 160 cm (5"2'), Rebecca is somewhat short compared to her peers. She has somewhat average looks, with round brown eyes and a brown shoulder-length bob. Her nose is long and pointed, but her face is soft and round. Rebecca is particularly skinny, with a very slim body that is almost dangerously underweight.
Rebecca usually wears colourful t-shirts with ankle-length skirts, as well as her favourite pair of comfy grey runners. She has an ancient Athenian coin on a silver chain as a necklace. On her lower back is a small tattoo of a stylised half-open eye, with two horizontal parallel lines both above and below it.
Character Bio/History: Rebecca was born into the wealthy Sarvaas family, her father having made his fortune producing and selling quality Italian wine. Her mother was a professor of ancient history before the world descended to dystopia, but was unable to continue teaching as the schools began to shut down.
Raised in a house of luxury, Rebecca could afford to be removed from the horrors of life for the general populace. She did not need to go hungry, she did not need to fear for her life and she was able to receive an education from her mother. With a naively optimistic yet carefully guarded outlook on life, she did understand that the world was troubled.
As she grew older and began to understand the world more, she became quiet and withdrawn, constantly apologetic and determined to assist those in need. Her status as one of the upper class did not, as it had so many times before, make her feel superior. She began to feel as though she had not earned privilege.
Rebecca spent most of her time with her head in a book, sometimes reading, sometimes writing. She loved to hear of the ancient struggles of democracy and freedom and wished the world could return to that state. She wrote her own fantastic utopias, scrawling away many notebooks full of wishful thinking and naive hope.
For Rebecca, the need to help is ever-present. She detests violence, but understands that sometimes it is necessary. She detests hedonism, but understands that people need some form of escape. Her aim is to see the world whole. She understands the world, but chooses not to pay attention, leading to an ignorant naivety lined with caution.
Wouldja lookit that? I made a character from Australia for once.

The Watchers: Alil Role within Group: Sweetheart Name: Alil Sūrkas Age: Born in 1024 B.C, she was frozen at 24 years of age when she became a Watcher and still appears young despite the multiple millennium that have passed her by. Gender: Female Appearance: Luscious dark chocolate brown hair falls in waves with occasional misfit curls in the mix that, when cast in direct sunlight, reveal lighter chestnut highlights throughout. Alil usually wears her hair braided back in public, only ever allowing the waves free reign in private. When lose, and while in the braid, her hair falls down to her waist, having never cut it since birth. It is soft to the touch, though she doesn’t exactly go around letting people run their hands through it. In the past, it has been compared to Egyptian cotton and she takes pride in that her hair is a trait given to her by her deceased mother.
Her hair frames a heart-shaped face of light olive complexion that showcases high, soft cheekbones, plush dark lips, a radiant smile that reveals dimples, slender nose with a discreetly uplifted end, and striking ocean blue eyes that have peculiar golden specks surrounding the pupils. Long lashes and crisp, finely curved eyebrows finish off her facial features.
Overall, Alil has a slim hourglass figure, which she covers in a pure white tunic (shirts and, on occasion, dresses) and slacks, with that light olive complexion throughout without much muscle of significance. Her skin is soft except for her hands, which she uses to cultivate land and collect various plants for healing and other medical concoctions.
The only jewelry that Alil wears is a intricate golden ring that mimics the curvature of vines with a teardrop lapis stone placed in the middle, with this is the matching necklace with a more detailed design in the gold of leaves and flowers that lead to the three larger teardrop lapis stones in the center, the two outer ones slightly smaller than the main stone.
Place of Birth: Pitru, in current day Syria near the Euphrates river Ethnicity: Assyrian (present day Syrian); of the Hittites
Weapons: Upon duress, and only then, does Alil fight another. Mainly, she works on the defense with martial skills that work with her agility but, when this does not work or she is working at long distance, she relies on a modernized crossbow that shoots arrows that carry in them a paralyzing toxin that is transmitted through the point of the arrowhead when triggered by contact with blood. She has also equipped herself with a solid brass knuckle duster that injects needles filled with the same toxin as her crossbow into the flesh and also has a knife that ejects from the side for close combat if need be.
Abilities: Alil’s main ability is that to heal wounds, from the most minor to fatal, with use of her herbs but also that of her hands. She’s elementally inclined, mostly towards Water, but also to Earth, and can manipulate them at will.
Character Bio/History: Alil Sūrkas was born to two common farmers, who lived upon the Euphrates in the region belonging to the fading Hittites empire. During her mother’s pregnancy her family was constantly on the move, trying desperately to cling unto their Hatti heritage as Assyrian rulers attempted to invade upon the Euphrates soil in search of the Paradise Reborn that was about its valley. And even afterwards, far into her childhood, Alil could remember the feel of her father carrying her upon his shoulders, the rhythmic sound of his frantic heartbeat along with hushed whispers shared between he and her mother as they tried to escape Assyria’s encroachment. But, alas, their attempt was found to be futile if they craved to stay by the River. The river was the source of all they lived upon, as her father cultivated the fertile soil to grow everything his wife and daughter ate. It was the River that they looked to in times of famine, it was the river that they adored, and it was the river that they would stay by despite the downfall of their Hittite cities.
It came soon enough, the Assyrian forces that seized their homeland in a crushing manner that destroyed any semblance of a home Alil could remember in her youth. It was a dark time then, when upheavals colored the sky with red flames and the striking down by Assyrian hands rang through the night. The pride of the Hittites ran on though, and her father joined a rebellion that was doomed to fail against the larger armies of the invaders. It was by the Euphrates that Alil stayed, clinging to the soil that her father loved, when the last rebellion fell and the Hatti submitted to their newfound country: Assyria. Her mother fell ill then, unable to move on from her father’s death in the upheaval, and Alil vowed to take on the place of her father and became the foundation for her mother, and for those who were left to build up something resembling their heritage within this new empire that took their crops from the land to sell and left them with nothing but the Euphrates to look upon.
She became known as a healer within her village, using the herbs her father taught her about to soothe the wounds both mental and physical of those who suffered. She was a silent and kind soul and despite her ability to blend in, many testified that she was the heart of the village, beating for all of them despite the famine that racked the land for quite some time. She’d won the hearts of every man, woman, and child through her embrace of all kinds, and even received gentle treatment from the Assyrian soldiers and people who began to settle along the Euphrates despite the mutual hatred that had begun to settle between the two cultures as they both struggled to assimilate one another. While Alil embraced the culture of Assyria, she kept that of the Hatti people close to her heart, despite how futile the effort would be. Over the centuries, as she would watch in dismay, her people would forget their origin and their love for the river they were born onto.
Upon her eighteen name day, her ill mother took a turn for the worse after many years of being an invalid. Despite the concoctions Alil created in hopes of helping, bringing back the mother who used to sing her to sleep when she was just a child against the sounds of upheaval, the strong woman Alil had looked to was slipping from her hands. Within two days, her mother had succumbed to a fever. Alil realized, slowly, that she was now alone even though she’d been mentally alone for almost ten years. The village looked upon her in a new way, as a woman without ties. There was the silent notion that she needed to marry, and soon, or lose her home. For years, the people of her land overlooked the male absence in the Sūrkas family, a needed presence to make claim on land, due to the mother’s state but now that Alil was a woman with no family it was time for her to find a suitor. Many appeared, boys she’d known for years who were farmers and kind souls. For her, it was enough to settle down for as love had evaded her but Assyrian soldiers who’d also taken notice of the silent beauty began to court her as well. Instantly, the threatened farmer boys fell back and left Alil to the lions.
She settled for a captain, who guaranteed that her lifestyle would not change if she did not see it fit, and Alil continued to be a healer for her village. However, the tone had changed once more. They looked to her as a traitor, having married into Assyrian culture even though she refused to abandon her natural roots.
It did not take long for yet another upheaval on the Euphrates to seize the Hittites and Assyrian tensions once more and this time, Alil would not be able to stay on the sidelines. In a fit of rage, the village turned on her.
As her home went up in flames, her husband fighting against her own people, Alil frantically went about trying to heal the wounded, only to be rejected. They would rather die than be touched by tainted hands. Shunned and wounded, Alil found herself staggering away from the losing battle, the Assyrians once again restoring order through force, and settled upon the Euphrates. She gazed upon the water, running red with blood, and found herself swallowed by despair as she tried to find a way to put together the shattered pieces of her home. She knew there was nothing left for her here, no matter how hard she would try to win back their love. After this upheaval, marriage to a Hatti would be looked down upon and the captain who’d kept her under his roof in exchange for affection would shut her out. Her people would shun her from the village. And where would she go then? Her heart was settled on this soil, buried in its depths.
It was then, as she was contemplating the cool feel of the water against her toes as she began to step into the Euphrates river that [Charming D-bag ;D] emerged from the smoke. [Would like to talk with whoever is taking on this character about how he/she brings Alil in/what he/she looks like]
Done~ I'm not sure about the healing part in her abilities, though. Is that okay?

hi ninjai! reserved.
trinkets themselves don't give out abilities, but instead provide energy to make the ability stronger. so as part of the paroch, you'd still be limited to either an enhanced sense or an elemental ability - but with a lot of trinkets and artefacts, fast runner could turn into SUPER SPEEEEEEED or a little flame blowing could turn into flamethrower out the mouth. etc.

Mk... Then would Paroch solders have the "power" to switch abilities then; i.e. like between the abilities of elements, this soldier can use elements of wind, fire, and lightning but can only do one at a time, and when there are two trinkets, two elements can be used or the element would become more powerful???
I am mainly asking this because the Application has the word Ability in plural ((Abilities))

ninjai: sorry for not explaining! the plural for abilities is the different ways you use one of the chosen "powers" - i.e., your character can wield fire. how does he use it? fire fang? flame thrower? fire wheel? does he create fire or does he just wield already existing fire? etc. the trinkets then come into play with determining how powerful those fire attacks are.
HOWEVER, during the course of the game, the paroch soldiers will become more powerful, so you have the chance to attain more powers in the future - for now as a start though, just choose one so you have room for character development.
wicked, great character and welcome to serapsis!

Omg, finally...
The Watchers: Lyla Name: Lyla (modernized) Age: Born 1033 B.C. Gender: Female Appearance: One, two. Place of Birth: Dominica Ethnicity: Dominican Weapons: Whip, daggers, and a crossbow. Abilities: Enhanced sight. Character Bio/History: Lyla was born with the name Lai'laa to an ancient tribe in Dominica. Unfortunately, her mother passed right after little Lai'laa's delivery. An elaborate azure inking of a spiral on her left ankle was given to her in her mother's memory when she came of age which is still visible. She was the daughter of the head Chief, and even though she caused such a tragedy, the tribe was ecstatic. Her people, the Elkiyali's were very self-reliant people. They spoke their own language and worshipped the sprit of their ancestors and held Tarantula's as sacred beings. Their most prominent weapons being Daggers and bows. Lai'laa's childhood was different from most girls who lived within the tribe. She was taught how to perform what was considered to be women's work at a very young age, which included searching for food and firewood, farming, and finding the plant materials used for the tribe's herb medicines. As she grew older, she helped other tribe members with preparations for large feasts as well. Lai'laa was considered the most beautiful young woman in her tribe, a spitting image of her mother. Every male member wanted to wed her, but at an early age, Lai'laa was promised to Coalm, who grew up to be the bravest warrior in the tribe whom she saw as too obnoxious, and arrogant when conflicting with her personality. Instead, she stumbled upon a warrior from the Mehiali tribe when searching for food, a very handsome, dauntless warrior named Kanen. A secret affair sparked, an act which was highly forbidden within both tribes. Still, as tradition, when it was time Coalm brought Lai'laa a small, granite hand with a ring forged by himself inside representing his feelings. The ring was denied, angering Coalm. Afterwards, Coalm started noticing Lai'laa's frequent absences, and followed her one day. After sunset, close to the river, past the jungle, right through the middle, up into the mountains. There, he saw Kanen stare into Lai'laa's eyes, hands on her waist. Shocked and outraged, Coalm audaciously went after Lai'laa's secret lover in a fit of rage. A vicious fight ensued which left Coalm dead. After trying to hide the body the best they could, the two fled back to their tribes in fear. When the Elkiyali's realized Coalm was missing, tensions quickly rose, with a search immediately enstated. The fright was evident in Lai'laa face, which she hid by insisting she had fallen ill. It was only a matter of time until they found Coalm's body, and when they did battle would definitely emanate. The two tribes already had it out for each other as it was, this would just be used as their excuse to kill. And so, the genocide of the Elkiyali's stemmed. After finding Coalm, and examining the unique Mehiali blade used to slice across his neck, Lai'laa's father declared war. Morale was high after holding the traditional spiritual ceremony. For three days, no one in the tribe spoke, as Coalm's body was cleaned of his internal organs and stuffed with herbs and incenses by his close blood. At dusk on the third day, a large pyre was built of special wood and the body was burnt. While he returned back to the ancestors, the tribe shared stories and raised motivation within each other. After a feast, they began to prepare for what they thought would be a landslide victory. The Elkiyali greatly underestimated the Mehiali. Kanen himself, already had his tribe prepared after killing the Mehiali's shaman, declaring himself the head chief. It was an absolute massacre. The Mehiali killed the greatest warriors with ease, slaughtering through their ranks. Leaving none behind, murdering even the women and children, Lai'laa and her father were the last two kept alive and were taken as captives. Kanen tried to persuade his love to join the Mehiali, that she and her father would be spared, and she would be made his wife. Lai'laa declined just as she did with Coalm, stating that she'd rather die than falsely love such a monster who killed her people. Kanen couldn't end Lai'laa's life, though her father was quickly executed. Upon reaching the deadliest peaks of the island, Lai'laa was exiled. She was untied, stripped of all her belongings, and only given a single skin of water from Kanen for what they once shared. After a vigorous month living out in the wild, she was finally about to perish when she saw a tarantula, and a mystic being holding it...

The Order of the Saints
Role within Group: Elder
Name: Mosola Van de Merwe
Age: 60
Gender: Male
Appearance: Though Mosola is a noticeably aged man, he is in fantastic shape. Broad-chested and solidly built, Mosola is able to accomplish athletic feats that may be difficult for men half his age. He is known to wear robes the color of wheat with a string of oversized cornflower blue rosary beads around his neck. His hair hangs nearly down to his coccyx in thick braids. A thick beard carpets his jawline. His worn face, along with his beard and the solemn pride that paints his features, has earned him the nickname “the Lion” among some of the South African people.
Place of Birth: Johanneseburg, South Africa
Ethnicity: Dutch-Afrikaner
Weapons: The Staff of Seraphiel- A staff crafted from the nearly-extinct Pondoland Palm, indigenous to South Africa. Though the wood of the palm is not particularly hard, the staff is believed to be unbreakable due to the holy artifact that protects it: a single ivory seraphim feather than hangs by a braided leather cord from the head of the staff. When the world is overwhelmed with darkness, it is said that the feather will emit a blinding light.
Abilities: Mosola was not gifted with the power of healing. Instead, the monk is able to call upon great protection through his faith. This blessing is manifest in two distinct forms. The first, which is a passive protection, has allowed Mosola to bear afflictions that would be fatal to normal men. From being bitten by venomous snakes to having most of his body crushed in the aftermath of an earthquake, Mosola has lived through massive physical trauma on multiple occasions. The second blessing, which did not reveal itself to Mosola until he was 55 years old, is the ability to cast durable walls of protection by channeling the Light through his staff. However, this second ability is only activated in the presence of the Watchers.
Home Monastery: Durban, South Africa
Character Bio/History: Mosola’s great grandparents were among the first missionaries to settle in South Africa, following John Theodosius van der Kemp into the valley regions of the cape in order to preach to the Xhosa tribes. It was around this time, in 1804, that the Van de Merwe family was given a feather of the seraphim Seraphiel as a gift from the Xhosa people. The feather was attached to a palm staff by Mosola’s great grandfather and has been passed down through the Van de Merwe family. Traditionally, the oldest male member of each Van de Merwe generation goes into priestly cloister in a missionary at the age of sixteen. A much darker tradition also follows the Van de Merwe monks: each man that bares the Seraphiel Staff has died a horrific and violent death at the age of 60.
Mosola, at the age of 60, has lived a courageous if not difficult life. In his time as a monk, Mosola has served as a layman and disciple to a former elder of the Saints. It was with this elder that the Watchers first revealed themselves to Mosola. When a massive earthquake struck Ceres, South Africa in 1969, Mosola and his teacher travelled through the city attempting to help those affected by the quake. Two days after the initial quake, a freak aftershock tremor shook the earth, letting loose a huge slab of concrete that fell and pinned Mosola in the rubble. The monk was alone at the time and spent six hours trapped under the debris. As the sun was setting, Mosola thought himself a dead man. However, a pair of Watchers came upon Mosola and granted him the strength of spirit to lift the stone from his chest and escape. The townspeople thought it a miracle when they heard the story and saw that Mosola was unharmed apart from a few broken ribs and bruises.
When his teacher passed away, Mosola was given the position of an elder in the Order of the Saints. His work as a missionary and a Saint are wide-spread in the southern regions of the Dark Continent. It is rumored that he has cleared a temple of angered, invading cobras; that he has walked into a burning building and brought out twenty survivors without showing a single sign of distress; and that he once walked over 150 miles through the country without once stopping.

I hate character sheets. I usually like revealing this stuff IC. Oh well I hope you enjoy it.
Name: William Age: 28 Gender: Male Appearance: 5'10"; athletic build; brown hair; dark eyes; fair skin. (Clothing to be described IC) Place of Birth: Maine, US Ethnicity: Caucasian American
Character Bio/History: William was born and raised in Northern Maine for much of his adolescence. At age 10, around the time when the world stopped spinning, as his father used to say, they moved to New York to seek medical treatment for his mother, who had contracted one of the many diseases that had begun to plague the Earth. But science was of no hope to them at this point, and within a year she was gone. His father was left to take care of William and Kara, his little sister, on his own, but quickly realized the need to teach his children how to be self reliant. For years he would teach William what he knew about survival, trying his best to protect them as the world grew more animalistic, becoming so tough on the young boy that William would soon grow to resent his father, not knowing that the same disease that took his mother was also fighting to take away his last surviving parent.
Will and Kara's father died when Will was 16. Kara was only 9.
New York was no longer safe for two children, but they had no where to go. Will had to learn to fend for himself and Kara, but what he had learned from his father only kept them alive for a couple of years. Then Kara got sick, and the training William had received was no longer enough. That's when he began bargaining with the underground. For protection of his sister as well as some medicine, he would offer his loyalty and services, as long as it didn't require him killing anyone. This went on till he was 21, when those powers decided it was time he slit some throats. He refused, and so they killed Kara, right in front of him. She was 14. He snapped and ran, but not before finally doing what they had wanted all along, leaving 3 dead, including the boss.
The world continued to spiral from there. William, all on his own on the outskirts of what used to be New York City, fends for himself and avoids any unnecessary contact with other human beings. He now does whatever it takes for him to survive, with no remorse, having long ago given up on humanity. He hunts. He steals. He fights. He bargains. But he never trusts.
