Blade of a Katana OOC

Welcome to Edo, Japan. Edo (today known as Tokyo), is the new capitol of Japan, and is under the rule of the shogun. The shogun established a new era for Japan, but this era has already started to show signs of trouble. His rule is threatened by whispers of assassins gathering in Edo with the intention of taking his life. The truth of these rumors was confirmed when one night, an assassin sneaked into his castle and made a failed attempt on his life. Alerted to the threat facing his continuation to live, he has started to search relentlessly for these assassins, seeking to end them before they end him.

The one thing that may serve to the shogun's advantage is that the assassins are not yet organized. They are largely working as individuals, and that makes them easier targets since no allies are there to help them. But when so many have gathered in one city, how long will it be before they join into one group and plan a coordinated attack to take the shogun's life?

---------------------------------------------------------

The sun had just risen above the horizon, and already the city was coming to life. Shop owners were opening their stores, street salesmen were preparing their wares for the day, and the various other morning routines of the citizens were commencing while the last remnants of the night life settled down until the next setting of the sun.

In the Shogun's estate, the morning sunlight was filtering in through all of the eastern windows save one, which was carefully obscured by a thick black curtain. The occupant of the still-dark bedroom had returned there prior to sunrise, and Midori Teido was currently sitting on top of his coffin's lid. His legs were crossed, though he kept switching which leg was on top out of his boredom as he watched his closed door for any signs of it opening. He was expecting the Shogun to fetch him at some point, as she usually did. His cloak was already on him, though he had the hood down for the time being. The hood would be put into its proper position over his head once he left the dark safety of his room, and he hoped the girl wouldn't be forcing him to go outside today. It had been a long night for him, scouring the streets of Edo in search of threats to his master. He'd heard some disturbing rumors while riding the wind as a fine cloud of vapors, and he felt sure the Shogun would like to hear of them.

He gave an agitated sigh before lying down on top of his coffin, deciding that the ceiling was more interesting to stare at than the door. Of course he could have just left the room in search of the girl, but he wanted to put off his exposure to sunlight for as long as possible. The constant ache that set into his skin and bones when he was bathed in such light was something he'd rather avoid until he absolutely had to endure it, but at least the cloak kept him from being killed in a very agonizing fashion. The ache was preferred over his total destruction.

-------------------------------------------------

The vampire wasn't the only one who was annoyed at the coming of morning. Over in his home outside Edo, Mikage Kurei had just returned home from a night of hunting for the many wanted criminals that had supposedly been seen in or around the city. His 9-year-old sister, Reika, was already up with the sun, dancing around the gardens in front of the house. Her golden hair seemed to sparkle in the sunlight, and she looked utterly delighted to be bathing in the light again. Nights were always hard for her, Kurei knew, but the darkness was his element and he was sad to see it go. So little was accomplished last night, and so much had to be done today.

Of course, the first thing he needed to do was get some rest. He'd been up the entire night, as usual, so the first thing he had on his list of things to do this morning was get a few hours of sleep. His mother was probably still resting. She'd been sleeping in a lot after her husband's death, and Kurei was beginning to worry about her health. If he lost her, then things would be even harder for Kurei. He was already providing for his family, but he'd have to raise Reika as well if anything happened to their mother.

He glanced out his window to confirm that Reika was still in the gardens before removing his shirt and collapsing on his bed, giving a sigh of relief in the process. It felt good to be off his feet. Sunlight made it difficult for him to see, but it also drained the energy out of him. He'd been running a little late this morning. Usually he returned before the sun rose. But this morning, the sun had beat him. As a result, he was even more exhausted than he usually was. Not enjoyable in the least. At least his eyes were recovering quickly enough, and he closed the curtains over his window to block out the light before quickly drifting off to sleep.

Shogun Midori Hana

Shogun Midori Hana was awake way before the dawning light, sitting in a calm meditation in a personal zen garden. Surrounded by marvelous carpentry of an open frame gazebo, Midori Hana sat on a center platform that was surrounded by scattered, large rocks and grazed sands of black and white. When she took a deep breath, the feeling and aroma of the light creeping over the night was subtle and fresh. Exhaling the revitalizing air of her empire, she opened her right eye to reveal the shadowed lands caused by the sunrise. A beautiful sight it was to behold, it was always the a good start to any new day. As kind as it may seem, although, Shogun Midori Hana was the grand ruler of these lands and actions must move the path of the future growth of the Empire.

Calmly standing to her feet, and fastening her sheathed Katana to her waist. “It’s time to visit my dear friend, Teido,” Midori Hana said loud enough for her nearby servants to hear, but still taking one last glare of the available morning. The servants agreed to the words of the Shogun with a bow, and signaled her path with the opening of the estate’s back entrance doors. Turning promptly, she quickly walked with a leading pace towards Teido’s quarters. You could hear her footsteps echo throughout as the guards in the hallways slammed the doors, and quickly, open for their Shogun. It didn’t take her long to reach her throne room, which was not far from the vampire and behind the throne room was a stairwell leading upwards, but that was to her room. Midori Hana didn’t want to waste her energy as she had her guards stand outside the throne room. This allowed her to walk behind the throne chair in which she instantly disappeared in its shadow, without the bother of staring eyes.

She slowly arose from the corner shadow of Teido’s quarters, but appearing behind him, and greeted him accordingly. “Surprise, Teido. Do share your thoughts and travels with me,” She said with a slight smirk walking around to sit in a nearby chair. “The morning had a slight chill in its rising breeze, I believe there may be some unwanted whispers in my Empire.”

Daichi Katsuo

As the morning rise peeked around the corners of his window frame, Katsuo awakens with a grin on his face. *Ah marvelous, I live another night* He thought to himself, lazily leaning towards the edge of his bed on his stomach, hanging right arm over and squinting to the dawning light. Taking a deep breath, Katsuo sat up on the bed’s edge and exhaled leaning back propping his upper body with stretching arms, backwards. As he sat there staring at the ceiling, shirtless of course, his mind had pondered for a moment before he remembered that today his shop would open. It would be a good day for wood works, but Katsuo was never one to be social to such simple minded people, but he did this to have a place to live in for awhile. *Time to wake up!!* He had shouted to himself, grabbing a nearby shirt and slipped it on, didn’t even bother to fasten the shirt opening, and jumped out the window.

Katsuo landed right at the front door, as his room was directly above it on the second floor. *Excellent, of course* He smirked, being full of himself and propping the door to show the shop was open. He walked around to his various works, inspecting the wood and constructions were not damaged or dried out from the varied weather conditions of day and night. Dust…. The only downside of being a carpenter was not saw dust, but the collections of dirt that appears on his work. “Why must I be taunted by nature?!” He angrily thought out loud, but was then distracted by a small animal, “Damned cat has returned,” with an angered glare at the calico cat standing outside the front door, cleaning itself like it’s some kind of royalty. “You won’t be scratching my hard work today! Ahhh…” Katsuo began running after the cat with four foot staff he grabbed as he ran towards the open doors, but unfortunately he ran into bad karma. One of the doors had closed right in face, causing Katsuo to fall to the ground breaking the door into the pieces. “You win again you damn animal,” He murmured to the cat, his face planted to the ground. The cat “meowed” and walked away agreeing with its victory.

*Sigh* Daichi Katsuo stood up and went up stairs to wash up and prepare for the day ahead. He was hoping that the hired hand that he agreed to have around his shop while he is away would not show up late today. Expecting to do some training today and to relax at a nearby spring, till the noon hour of the day.

VIBRATIONS SO GOOD LIKE A SUNKIST!
Already awake and kind of bored, Masao was waiting for the day to begin. He stood up and walked outside of the castle, but as he did he remembered his blade was broken from the previous fight he was in. He could only look at it and wonder why he can’t find a good enough Katana. Masao soon got over it and looked off into the distance, it always put a big smile on his face. The morning had a smell to it that the night didn’t. To Masao it smelled so pure, but it lacked the mystery of the nights that he loves so much.

For a second Masao forgot about his lord, but then he remembered that she is most likely with her little pet boy that he isn’t a big fan of. Sadly he knew there was nothing he could do about that since she loves her pet. He was just happy to know she was in a safe place, in some odd twisted way was it safe. “Hmmm I wonder what I can do today? I guess I’ll just stay here and wait to see what the shogun wishes” Sadly he couldn’t think of what she would want, he always had a hard time guessing what his lord wished. That could of course be since his lords a women and talking to her isn’t easy for him, in a way he protects her at a distance.

When in public, Masao tends to stay a few feet back or in front of her. He tries very hard, but just can’t be close to her, he always felt odd and because of that he isn’t sure why he picked her as a lord. Masao slowly drifted off into his thoughts while looking into the distance. That only lasted so long since he noticed how dry his mouth was “AH what the? Why is my mouth this dry?” he shrugged it off and sat at the side of the castles door and played with his blade.

Itoe had only just finished wandering the streets of the larger city she had found herself walking to. She always walked in random directions to get from place to place for new adventure, and this just happened to be her newest destination, Edo. And in all reality she hadn't walked as much as hitched rides with total strangers for a long while, mostly traders coming in with new produce from the farming areas. She had been inhabiting a females body for the mass majority of her traveling time, using the womanly figure to get free food and to travel on the caravans.

Long black hair and bright blue eyes matched the traditional beauty that made her look like one of the geisha. Her skin was pale and her teeth were blackened, lips red but naturally so. She looked almost like another time, which in all reality the body was. It was almost pushing 100 years old from being kept, though hardly ever being used, keeping the body's age to be around sixteen. Itoe had kept it after watching the girl be slain by a murderer after doing some odd thing to her. She hadn't realized at the time, but he woman had been violated and then killed to keep secret.

Unaware of this and having long forgotten the events that had happened directly before grabbing the woman's Soul Orb Itoe only brought her out occasionally to work the charms of a good looking female, and the woman had obviously been trained in the arts of song and dance, her singing was beautiful, and her movements graceful. But she was a small woman, and would be easily over powered by even a older teenage boy if they put their mind to it.

When she left the traveling merchants she walked along with the streets in the early morning, dew still clinging to surfaces it could keep traction on. The simple robe that she wore was black and soft, thin cotton that had been used for long past the date that it usually would have been my any other normal mortal. Traveling barefoot didn't bother her, in fact she enjoyed it, it kept her feet wet in the mornings and night, and she walked easily trailing her hands on any surface that would let the dew trail onto her body to keep her hydrated.

The city was opening up and the general atmosphere was that of uneasiness. It was as if everyone was whispering of rumors that would get them killed if over heard, like everyone was waiting, and watching, and then there were small pockets of happiness and contentment that seemed to be blissfully unaware of what was going on, adults and children alike held these little blissfully ignorant auras of living the good life as well as it could be managed.

Stopping once in a while to look from this stall or shop to the next, Itoe just kept wandering, and finally came upon a cat that seemed to be walking away from an open shop door. The cat hissed at her and she just huffed a breath of air out of her nose and held out a hand, waving calming emotions into the felines body. The cat melted into her arms as she picked him up, a tom it seemed, and walked towards the open door.

Peeking inside she saw that it was full of wood working. Stepping inside she grimaced a tiny bit at the feeling of dust and saw dust underfoot, it was dry and nothing at all comfortable for her. Looking at the person in front of her she nodded a bit in his general direction and spoke up. "Would this happen to be your cat? He seems to be quite the cuddly monster." She smiled sweetly and giggled a soft bell like giggle as the cat nudged and headbutted her cheek for attention.
"I'd ask Kyo "Whatever happened to Ash?". He'd go "I don't know. There's this big crater where her house used to be. I think her Nana exploded". -FredKrug.

Today was going to be a good day. As Kane collected his dice from the table in front of him, he could feel a nagging sensation in the back of his mind, a great pull for him to do something. Today, of all days, seemed like an excellent day to fix his roof finally. It had been leaking quite a bit and it really should be taken care of sooner rather than later.

At some points, the man known as Kane did not know whether these thoughts were even his own. It was as if his own ability to think had been dominated, replaced by something else. Refusing this path, this mental walk of life, had always turned out for the worst for him. And he saw no reason that today he should not get his roof fixed. Why not today then?

He opened his door to the morning. His shop was little, but it got much business during the day. A veritable maze of items all categorized and lined up upon the walls on the inside, the outside belied a much meeker nature. To a passerby, it was just like any other shop. But from here the man known as Kane grew a prosperous economic empire, with shipments coming in from as far as India. But he closed the shop today, made sure that no one would come in. Today he had an errand to run. Today he would get his roof fixed.

The streets of Edo were not yet crowded this day. The sun peaked through the streams of roofs, crawled around the corners of the alleyways and other nooks the city hid. He did not know where he was going. He simply allowed his feet to guide his path. Destiny, he had learned, was not something you walked away from. So, strolling down the lanes of the city in the peering morning light, the man known as Kane allowed his feet to guide him.

After several moments of walking, he stopped in front of what amazingly appeared to be a carpenters shop. The shop was modest for its position in the city, not far from Kane's own residence. The works, the various arts of wood, stood as a testament to the shop owner's credentials. In his heart, Kane knew that this felt right.

He waited in the middle of the shop, the owner apparently having either just stepped out or just opened up. Either way, something told Kane that the carpenter would be back. So he waited. And as he waited a cat of tortoiseshell-and-white came upon him. It seemed a meek enough creature, and so Kane sought fit to extend it a hand and kneel down to its level. Despite his apparent position as a merchant, Kane still could not rid himself of the noble way in which he carried himself. His shoulders always set, his expression always neutral, he was the epitome of ease. The cat came up upon him suspiciously at first, but then began to rub its cheek against the back of his hand. The fur had a soft texture to it and was warmed by both flesh and sun.

Yes, today was to be a good day indeed.

Feeling refreshed with the cool water hitting his face, “Ahh… nature can be cruel, but there is some things that I would miss in this world.” After letting some of the water drip from his skin as he pondered shortly of the things he would miss, he quickly came back to reality drying off and decided that fresh clothing would be appropriate for this day. As Katsuo slipped on a shirt, footsteps softly echoed in the acoustic shop. *It seems that the world comes to visit early today* Thinking to himself as he walked over to the stairway. Arriving at the top of the stairs, he peered over the railing to see who is observing, but was seen by a young looking feminine figure asking if he owned a cat.. Looking in the other direction to deny her statement, but seeing another person as he had done so, “No… it is not my cat,” saying as Katsuo saw a cat near the man he had discovered in the middle of the shop. Slightly hiding an annoyed expression and clenching a fist for a moment.

“Not to be a bringer of bad news,” Katsuo spoke as to address the two beings in his shop, “but I do not allow these felines in my shop, while in the presence of my sight.” Katsuo had calmed himself relaxing his body and pounded his right foot quickly, in doing so, he showed off his skilled carpentry skills having the steps of the stairway flatten into ramp in a rippled effect. Laughing to himself softly, “I do like these stairs wouldn’t you agree,” Katsuo had hoped the loud noises would fend off the fiendish cats back to the wilderness they came, and slid down the ramp to reach the bottom floor.

“Daichi Katsuo, the grand carpenter, it seems you have discovered my shop on an open day… Please, do admire the furnished and the sculpted,” Saying with a self admiration and a slight bow greeting the people. Kicking backwards with a heal towards the bottom step of the stairway, a small toggle button reset the stairs to their normalcy, and triggered the surrounding closed windows to open at an angle. The morning light reflected the shine of some of his wood work. “Don’t mind the mess, it seems nature loves having dirt no matter where you go,” wiped dust off of a nearby table.

The vampire really should have been used to such antics from the Shogun by now, but when she materialized behind him from the corner shadow, he gave a small start of surprise. Anyone else would have been playing with fire if they sneaked up on him like that, but the Shogun was the only person he wouldn't immediately kill for doing such a thing. She was lucky he was still so interested in her blood and their agreement.

At the mention of the chill on the breeze, Teido gave a small snort of amusement. So she had noticed, had she? How very entertaining. At least what he had to say would come as no surprise to her. He didn't quite know how she'd react to the information he had for her. After the previous assassination attempt on her, he figured she wouldn't want to hear about more of those rats in the city.

"Unwanted indeed," he remarked, his red eyes fixing on his master. They had a significant amount of black in them from thirst, but he wasn't going to bother her about that. He'd just visit some random prisoner later and quench his thirst that way. Unless she offered him her own blood, in which case a prisoner would be spared today. "I have not seen any confirmation of this, but rumor has it that some unsavory individuals have been asking about you. Particularly about the assassination attempt a fortnight ago. There is reason to believe more attempts on your life may follow."

He didn't sound pleased about this. If someone killed the Shogun, then he wouldn't get her sweet, delicious blood. He had to keep that from happening. Not that he was concerned about his own safety, but with the Shogun's backing, he could get away with anything. He liked having that power and freedom, and he was loathe to lose it. Besides, he kind of liked the girl. Her style of ruling didn't always match with his preferences, but she kept things entertaining enough and he wanted to keep her around. It was quite tempting to turn her into a vampire like him so she could rule Japan forever. With him at her side, of course... A very tempting thought. Not one he'd ever mention to her, but tempting nonetheless.

Her eyes lit up in a child like glee at the wonder of his stairs, and the cat had long sense jumped from her arms and wandered out into the street again, regaining his sarcastic and vengeful personality. She clapped her hands together and smiled a closed smile, bowing slightly at the waist before looking back up at him once more. "I'm so sorry sir, I didn't know. So you are a wood worker as made apparent. What are your specialties?"

She walked around, her hair swaying behind her, her steps just as graceful as before, she seemed to be sliding, as if she couldn't stand to try and lift her feet from the saw dust. In all reality she was trying to make it so that the bottoms of her feet which were still damp, with damp saw dust clinging to them, didn't touch the dry air inside the shop and drying quicker then she could handle.

Sliding gracefully past the man, she glanced over her shoulder at him, a sweet smile gracing her lips, eyes half closed in an innocent yet almost coy look. "You seem to be very good with your hands, you have been Grand Carpenter for a long time I take it?" She bent down at the knees and looked at some of the things he had on display, tailing fingers over the dust ridden works. It was fascinating, and disgusting all at once and it puzzled Itoe.

Laying under a large weeping willow, Amaya stared up at the light that seeped in through the weeping branches of the willow. Her whole body was wrapped by the branches of the tree that canopied around the trunk wide enough to allow her petite body to lay curled up next to the trunk. Amaya had never been one to be able to sleep politely on her back and quietly lay there all night. Ever since she was young she slept in two different ways depending on her desire to sleep. Sometimes, she would sleep curled up on her side with her arms as her pillows and her legs entwined in eachother and any form of blanket she had. Sometimes though, she managed to sleep on her stomach with her legs sprawled out and her one arm under her head while her other draped next to her ontop of anything nearby (i.e. her sword or a nearby person).

Last night, she had managed to find this tree late at night and decided she was far too exhausted and poor to go into town and rent a room to sleep in. Under this tree was as good as some room figuring the night had been comfortable and the tree was a good roof. Now, however, she was slowly waking up as she stared up at the lights cascading into her little secluded canopy. ”What…to do…?” she asked herself as she sat up and ran her fingers through her long hair. Amaya was currently wearing last night’s clothes and was feeling rather stinky. She needed a bath, and based on the smell of water that lingered in the air Amaya knew there was a river or something nearby. So with a playful smile playing on her pink lips, Amaya picked up the cloth she’d used as a pillow last night and wrapped it as a sash on her body.

Pulling the draped canopy of weeping branches away, Amaya ventured into the bright warm world and started her search for water. It wasn’t a long search though, and after some walking she found the river. Instantly scanning the area, Amaya’s light brown eyes affirmed that there was no one nearby and started pulling her clothes off. Once she was down to the lowest level of her clothing, Amaya took a deep breath and started concentrating on becoming invisible. She had no intentions of being found out for being a female at the moment, so going invisible was a great way to hide her body. Once she was fully invisible, Amaya pulled off the last layer of her clothing and then the cloth that held her breast down. What good would showing off her breast do when she was trying to hide her gender?

Once she was completely naked, Amaya dipped down into the river and with a cloth she carried on her for such occasions, and the soap bar hidden inside said cloth, Amaya started to clean herself. She really needed this and was glad she had stopped nearby. The more she got distracted with her bathing though, the more she became visible and after she was completely clean, she’d realized she was fully visible and with a bit of a hushed gasp, she moved to her clothes and quickly wrapped her chest to keep it flat and then threw her clothes on. So much for not having a visible naked body. At least no one was around….right?

Makoto was out before the rise of the sun, patrolling the streets of Edo as he often did. The streets were not yet alive, as the only other people out were the merchants preparing for business, the policemen to whom he saluted along his way, and other assorted early birds much like himself. This was his favorite time of day, the very beginning - after the shady night life, yet before the noisy morning crowds. The early breeze was pleasant as well. It almost made him feel at ease. Almost. It was a bittersweet calm, much like the one felt before a great storm.

His patrol would last for a couple of hours, sweeping through the streets methodically, using information gathered through his contacts to inspect areas of interest. Once under the employment of the local law enforcement, Makoto knew these streets quite well, and the streets knew him in turn. If there were anything out of place, he'd surely notice. Before he knew it, the sun had risen, and along with it the citizens of Edo. The slowly escalating sounds of business and merriment drew him further and further away from that tranquility he felt earlier.

"That time already, huh?" he thought out loud, beneath his breath. Soon, he would end his patrol and return to the palace to see if his assistance were needed by the Shogun. Of course, even if it weren't, he would still stick around and patrol the palace grounds.

As the morning unfolded, he exchanged his usual greetings with familiar faces, though his ears were always perked should a suspicious whisper come their way. Indeed, if that demon were the Shogun's nocturnal eyes and ears, Makoto could be called her diurnal senses; at the very least, he was able to interact with the public more easily than that cloaked... thing. It seemed as though the Shogun were much more "attached" to the one called "Akuma" than she was to her other guardians (or at least that was how Makoto saw it), but this only made Makoto do his job much more efficiently. Not only because he felt that he had something to prove, but also because he refused to be the one to slip up. He had made far too many sacrifices to.

By now, Edo was far too loud for his tastes. At this point, he would leave things to the local law enforcement, and exchange information with them later on. He had worked well with them in the past, and trusted them to an extent. With his morning routine at an end, it was time to check in on things at the Shogun's estate.

Edo, the ronin trap. It was the place that wandering samurai always seemed to end up, and always wound up becoming thugs and degrading themselves under the Shogun's thumb just to find work. Everything cost more money than a job could pay for and to find bodyguard work was difficult so one was reduced to gambling and luck.

It was not the way Yasei intended to end things despite his traveling towards the city. The kitsune in disguise sat on a bench outside a dumpling shop, idly chewing on one of the small delectable orbs slowly while his emerald eyes shifted around; most of his face was concealed by straw hat he wore, the brim coming down just below his nose while the straw was spaced enough to allow him to see out but denying others to see in. This was his meal for the day, having used the rest of his money to get a nice treat before continuing on.

He still had two other sticks of dumplings on his plate, and with how slowly he was eating it would be more likely that he'd be run off when the shop closed up for the night but it hardly mattered. This was his chance to think about where he wanted to go next; it seemed the capitol was the only place now but once in it was difficult to get back out so choices had to be made carefully.

Finally, deciding to move on while he ate, Yasei plucked the two sticks remaining from the plate as he stood and simply started walking. He shifted the sticks to his right hand, keeping the used one for a later use with cooking fish or other meat since that would now be his prime source of consumption. "Ahmm.." He wanted to help the most people he could to get away from the corrupt dogs that called themselves government officials, those who could report false information and turn failure into success to keep their darkest secrets hidden while leeching off the people.

There was a small town before getting to Edo, he supposed he'd make a stop there and see who needed a body guard so he could gather up a bit of money before heading into the capitol. For the moment he needed to relax having been on the road for a good most of the day, the kitsune hadn't felt very comfortable around the people of the stand and he'd have to catch something for dinner as well. Taking a look around for a moment he seemed to flicker out of sight as he dashed into the trees, his feet making little to no sound as he moved through the brush. His nose led him to a river and as he passed a tree his clothes and swords came off to be hung on a branch and off the bank lept a large fox into the water. It was deep enough that he would have to tilt his head up slightly while he waded through to the shore with his whole body fully soaked; it felt great to be in his natural state again!

Paddling up to the bank, he shook himself from nose to tip of his tail before sitting down and looking down the bank to a person who had seemed to be either getting ready to take a bath or just finishing. Yasei didn't move a muscle, as he watched the person; even his tail which normally writhed and flicked was still as his emerald eyes simply stared at her cautiously. Has she seen him? His swords were on the opposite bank and the only thing he had were his teeth for the moment so even if he had been exposed he wouldn't be shifting back willingly; people didn't take too kindly to kitsune, especially with the legends of how the foxes possessed people; more particularly young women. For now he was rooted where he sat, his eyes filled with more intelligence than any animal could possibly possess normally just waiting to see what the woman would do with his presence.

Shogun Midori Hana

"Very well then," She started with a confident voice, "Then shall actions be taken before the attempts." Hana stood up with a slender, yet firm stance and taking a few steps around the dark lair of Teido's "living" space. She crossed in front of Teido, taking a few more steps, a sort of thinking pace it seems, taking steps in a circular motion and pausing for a couple seconds. As she stood on the opposite side of and behind Teido, untouched back-to-back, she closed her eyes to see into her memories and taking in the glowing light of Teido's covered window.

Then it struck quite quickly, walking towards the entrance doors of the room. "So be it, I will return to the daylight of the Empire to start a sweep of the complete empire. Anyone having negative actions or verbal words shall be taken to the prison pits for immediate discipline. And, of course, any rebel movements, words, and assassins found, as well as disrespecting individuals will be dealt with accordingly, either taken in by force or their heads rolling off their lifeless, worthless bodies." After Hana said such words, she was facing the door with body twisted sideways and a hand on her left hip. Looking towards Teido at a slight turn of her head and her left eye partially staring, "I'm sure, this would be enjoyable," she smirked with an evil grin.

She leaned, with her back on the entrance doors, to face Teido. Reaching into a one of her inside shirt pockets, She pulled a small glass potion bottle. Holding this smooth blood red liquid with her index finger and thumb, "I thank you, my fairly dead friend," giving him a grin and tossing the bottle in the air towards Teido and shadow jumping back to the throne chair.

Calling out the messenger guards standing outside of the Throne room, "You two!," having the peons run to her and kneeling at the edge of the red carpet that laid about 10 feet from the bottom step. Pointing at one "You notify the local general of my message," then pointing at the other, "As for you, whom will relay my message to Empire Shogunates," she had commanded repeating her made decision from earlier regarding the enforcement of Shogun Midori Hana's soon-to-gloriously-grow Empire. Bowing their heads they shouted 'For the Shogun' and bolted off on their directed paths. Hana at that moment sat down in the righteous ruling throne chair, rubbing softly with her fingers against its precious engravings and sculpting design.

Daichi Katsuo

Daichi Katsuo smiled for a moment knocking the dust off with a clap of his hands. "Grand carpenter is definitely a title I'd like to carry for myself, but as far as my specialties go... I would say that it reaches to fine carvings, sculptures and entwining small hints of metal into some pieces of wood work." Walking towards a section of masterpieces located around the front of the shop, Katsuo quickly pushed the dust off of several wooden surfaces. As the dirt floated out of the nearby window, the more brightening sun glare that shined through showed two Sculptures and a small chest. The Sculptures were of a dragon and a Japanese guardian figure, with lines of detail engraved with shined metal rods within grooves of polished wood. The chest in the center was made simple with dark wood shaped to a similarity of that of a jewelry box with had a type of fresh water frog sculpted on top, which also had some polished metal in the eyes and on its back.

"These are simple works for display of course, but non-the-less great pieces," Crossing his arms with his back towards the visitor as Katsuo marveled at the sight of the hand made artwork. Turning slightly to peer over his shoulder, "I would say that at least one of these definitely appeals towards your likes or finds your glancing eyes' sparkle," he said finding a reaction or two.

VIBRATIONS SO GOOD LIKE A SUNKIST!
Masao stabbed his broken blade into the ground and started to swing his sheath around. He started to get serious for a moment and picked his blade up out of the ground. Taking a fighting stance, Masao did a spinning attack and slammed his metal sheath onto the ground forcing it to break up a little. After Masao did that he snapped out of his little trance “did it again….” this wasn’t the first time he got bored and damaged the castle grounds.

Putting what was left of his blade into his sheath, Masao began to start fixing the ground the best he could. Sadly though he was never much of a fix it type of guy and it only ended up looking worse then when he ruined it “I hope she doesn’t kill me for this…”. Masao’s head fell forward as he let out a deep breath. Lifting his head back up, Masao started pacing back and forth hoping he could find something to do on such a beautiful day.

For a second he was hoping he could go out and play with some children that he knew. Masao on his free time always wanted to play. Most of his money would go to candy for the kids and himself, not once has he ever bought something really useful such as a good enough blade that won’t break. He didn’t care though, hanging around with children helped him stay sane. Stopping and sitting down on the ground, Masao leaned back to look up at the sky for a bit. Closing his eye’s, he allowed himself to drift off into his own world. He liked to let himself go in thought when his lord wasn’t around. Grabbing one side of his scarf and throwing it over his shoulder, Masao bathed in the sun for the time.

A busted and bruised hand, tightly gripped the rope leading to the bound wrists of a wanted man. The damaged hand holding the rope was that of Ryu Katorai, a kind, yet just samurai. Bounty hunter, that profession is what had him leading this criminal through the streets of Edo, to the palace. Ryu hadn’t captured this prey easily. This man was one of the rare few that actually presented a good fight, and Ryu now bore signs of a good battle. A recently dislocated then relocated thumb on his left hand and a few cuts on his chest. However, the man Ryu had detained was worse for wear. Having several fractured ribs, and a broken clavicle, the man was sucking wind heavily in pain.

“It’s not much further.” Ryu’s voice was soft and understanding. The man he had captured was Shin Masagari, a notorious bandit. He was known to steal from royalty on several occasions, and he’d even succeeded in breaking into the palace to steal a large sum of money.

“Yeah…” Shin huffed. “Not much further” he sucked in a large pained breath, “until they execute me.” he finished, stumbling forward in front of Ryu.

“Perhaps they’ll be lenient towards you. You do still have most of what you’ve stolen. You are returning it, and if you cooperate, perhaps you’ll have a lighter sentence to bear than death.”

“Not likely. That bitch of a Shogun.”

Ryu shook his head. He knew that there was very little chance that Shin would be spared. As much as he hated to agree with the man, the Shogun wasn’t known to be very kind. She was harsh and ruled with stern beliefs. But, this was only a job for Ryu. He’d been tasked with finding the man, and he’d done just that. The man was alive, and in possession of what he’d stolen; at least most of it. There was a hefty bounty on Shin’s head, and Ryu needed to be paid. It was not a personal vendetta or anything of the sort, it was simply business.

“State your business!” A large, armor clad guard standing at the gates of the palace brought Shin and Ryu to a halt.

“My name is Ryu Katorai. Bounty hunter. I’m bringing in Shin Masagari for the bounty on his head.”

The guard looked the man over, and took the paper Ryu had offered him. He glanced through the paper work, then back at Shin. The man nodded several times, the raised his right hand and motioned for several other guards to join him. “Take this man to the prison. He’s wanted for grand theft on multiple accounts. Take his belongings and lock him up. The shogun will deal with him later.”

Ryu nodded to Shin, and handed the rope to the guards and watched as they roughly hauled him away.

“I suppose you want your payment now?”

“That would be nice, yes.”

The guard walked to the gates, and motioned for Ryu to follow.

They made their way through the gates and over to a small building. The guard walked into the building, leaving Ryu to stand outside and wait. After a few moments, the guard returned with a small burlap pouch and tossed it at Ryu.

“There.”

“This isn’t nearly enough.” Ryu said, examining the heft of the bag. It was far too light to have the amount promised.

“He was wanted dead. Now that you’ve brought him back alive, you’ve only burdened us.”

“But, he has with him what he stole, shouldn’t that count for something.”

“No.” The guard said coldly. “Now, leave, or you’ll join him.”

“I can’t accept this. I did what was requested, his fate is not up to me to decide. I want the reward that was promised.”

The guard, without another word, scoffed, then in his own mind, 'quickly' drew his weapon.

Before the man could fully draw his katana, Ryu had already withdrew his own and knocked the mans hand away from the haft of his katana. The katana slid back down into its saya. The guard stood dumbfounded for a moment, unsure of what had just happened.

“Why you! I’ll kill you!” The large man said, drawing the attention of several other guards nearby, that rushed over. “No, he’s mine!” The large man shouted, this time fully withdrawing his sword. He took an offensive stance, and readied himself to strike Ryu.

“Please, just give me the money I was promised, and I’ll be on my way.”

The guard however, ignored Ryu’s protest, and simply lunged at Ryu, bringing his katana down in a vertical slash.

Ryu simply sidestepped and brought his right hand up and punched the large man in his ribs as he passed by. The large man tumbled to the ground, and clumsily got back to his feet.

“Don’t just stand there, get him you fools!”

The two other guards looked at Ryu, fear present in there eyes.

“What are you waiting for, get him damn it!”

Ryu sighed, looking from the two guards, the one who had attacked him, and then around at the crowd gathering outside the palace gates watching what was happening. All the noise the guards had made was drawing in quite a few onlookers. Ryu took a defensive stance, and readied himself for their next attack, hoping someone with a little sense would come and stop these fools; before he had to.

His stride was slow, as if he were stalling. In truth, Makoto was actually in deep thought, allowing his feet to guide him down the path he so often took instinctively. What type of task would he be given today, he wondered. Though he wasn't one to actively seek conflict, he couldn't deny the thrill he felt when against a worthy opponent. Truthfully, he was bored. It was then that his empty eyes caught sight of a gathering crowd; they focused in on the situation as his thoughts raced away.

"To see a gathering so close to the Shogun's palace," Makoto's pace quickened, his left hand now held the sheath of his katana with his right hand ready to grab the hilt at a second's notice. "How curious."

Makoto made his way through the crowd, which wasn't that difficult as most of the civilians stepped aside upon seeing him draw near. Just ahead, beyond the gates, one man could be seen in combat with some of the guards. In broad daylight, no less. He thought to unsheathe his blade there and then, but instead approached with caution. Perhaps things weren't as they seemed.

"Excuse me," he began, his voice loud enough to be heard by the man and the guards that surrounded him, "Just what is going on here?" asked Makoto, his hand now resting upon the hilt of his katana, ready and willing to slay this individual should he receive an unsatisfying answer.

"You're in for it now!" sneered one of the guards to the bounty hunter before turning his attention to Makoto, "This man here assaulted a guard without reason! Quickly, cut him down!"

Makoto quirked a brow at the guard's reply. "Nothing is done without reason. Surely this man didn't intend to brawl with the Shogun's men," his eyes rolled upwards, "Beneath the sun, and--" Makoto glanced back to the crowd that stood on the other side of the gates, "--with so many witnesses."

He turned his attention to the bounty hunter yet again. "You there. What have you to say for yourself? What drove you to this?"

Makoto asked this, but the answer would only determine whether this man were to be arrested... Or executed on the spot.

She largely ignored the piece with the dragon on it, in her travels she had seen many of them as it was, and though they were almost always of great beauty, you could only look at them so many times before losing interest. The same went for the guardians, though they were more likely to be varied in design they usually ended up copying one another have the centuries passed. The frog chest, on the other hand, it was amusing to her. It also reminded her of her true home that she hadn't been to in decades, and it was comforting almost in a way. Reaching a hand out, she slid her slender fingers over the sculpture and smiled a demure smile, skin crinkling ever so softly at the corners of her eyes as she did so.

It really was a well made piece, not the most intricate, but it was the simplicity of the object that gave it a natural beauty. Looking up at the man she gestured at the box. "How much would it be for this piece? It is very beautiful. I assume that you made it yourself?"

She continued to move her fingers in a petting motion on the frog, as if it were a real animal being caressed under her digits. She didn't mind this humans presence, though his shop could use some cleaning and maybe a water feature, but that was her own opinion. She did how ever need a place to stay in this place. Maybe she could offer to clean? Or would she be better off changing bodies and trying to find work as a man?

She never did know which was best, working as a woman in a good place that was less labor intensive, or working as a man with more manual labor. They both posed risks, such as the woman being naturally weaker against most employers, so self defense was difficult. And with being a man getting hurt on the job was more likely. It was a fine line of balance she just had to work with and figure out on her own.

Though out her inner thoughts, she continued to look up at the man with an attentive smile and look on her face, waiting patiently for him to answer her questions. She was in want of a glass of water though at this point, she felt uncomfortable with so much dryness in the air.

The Human Pet
While getting dressed, Amaya's eyes drifted around her surroundings. Naturally her eyes were trained to look for any humanoid figures because...it was mostly just humans she felt like she needed to keep an eye out for. Several times has she gotten undressed around animals and not really cared about whether they knew she was a male, female, or even a monster. Animals wouldn't respond to you any different if they saw you naked than they would if they saw you fully clothed.

However, after she was fully dressed, Amaya realized that there was a rather large fox nearby. Had she noticed it before this? Of course: Very few movements nearby missed Amaya’s attention. She’d noticed as birds flew past, she noticed a rabbit was nearby nibbling on a clover, and she noticed some squirrels playing nearby while another scurried around searching for food. She always found Squirrel mouths interesting. They ran around with their mouths open, she couldn’t tell if they had food or if they were just overly ecstatic about something and liked running around with their mouths open. It really didn’t matter though. They weren’t that interesting. Cute sometimes, food sometimes, but rarely anything more than that.

However, this fox here. It hadn’t seemed threatening earlier, so she never took any mind to it. Foxes usually left you alone as long as you left them alone. Either that or as long as you had no food. Since Amaya had finished the last of her food last night she felt like she was safe and therefore hadn’t paid it any attention. But now, feeling it’s presence still nearby, his eyes staring at her, Amaya wondered what it wanted. Did it think she had food? Looking over towards the fox, she realized it was larger than she anticipated. In fact, it was huge. Most foxes barely reached taller than a foot, but this one seemed to be 3 feet tall. It was larger than a wolf, and almost as tall as her. Why hadn’t she noticed that earlier? Why hadn’t her guards instantly been thrown up due to the sheer size of the fox? And…how had she even known it was a fox anyways? Sure, the coloration of the fur and the shape of the body suggested it was a fox. But when one thought of a fox they thought about something considerably smaller.

Facing the fox completely now, her face took one an expression of wariness. Not only was the fox larger than normal, but I was also oddly intelligent seeming. Of course, there was no way telling any animal was intelligent merely by looking at it. However, when she took a closer look, she noticed it wasn’t even moving as a fox would. Most foxes would feel threatened to see something larger than them take notice of them and face them. They would take a defensive stance. But this one. It didn’t move. It didn’t flee. It just sat there, it’s body calm and even slightly…quizzical? The one thing that cause Amaya to believe that this fox was more than just a fox were his eyes. They seemed deeper than a normal fox’s. Of course, fox were known for their intelligence. They knew how to get into any food no matter how difficult the trap and usually managed to escape unscathed. But this fox, seemed even more intelligent than that. It stared at her without instincts telling it to retreat or fight…and it even seemed like it was interested in what she was going to do.

”Aish. It’s just a fox…just…a really big one…” she said outloud to herself and fanned a hand towards the creature to sort of convince herself that nothing was wrong. But. If it was so large. Would it attack her? Wolves attacked creatures larger than themselves. And foxes were known to attack things larger than them if they were desperate. Would this one attack her? Reaching her hands towards her katana, Amaya’s one hand reached for the sheath while the other grabbed the hilt of the sword. If it were to attack, she would be ready. Any pounce and she’d quickly pull the sword out and slash for the creature’s throat or underbelly. The most sensitive places. Maybe teeth couldn’t hurt the animal, but blades could. ”Do not hurt me, and I will not hurt you…” she warned the larger than life creature.

It really was a handsome being though. Foxes always were, but this one was even more handsome than most of it’s kind. ”but…how is it you came to be so tall? You must…be a hybrid? You can’t be full fox. No way…” She didn’t expect the creature to respond. After all, most foxes don’t speak. So she was really just speaking to calm her nerves. The only thing that showed she was nervous was the fact that she was speaking. Had she not been speaking, you would have seen her calm and steady gaze staring at the fox, warning it not move too suddenly or she wouldn’t hesitate to defend herself. Amaya never killed animals except for food or defense. It was the humans that needed killing.

Sexy Shoeless God of Something
Timing is much less about when to say something and much more about when to not say something. People fill their lives with chatter, with relentless gossip and news ans things which do not pertain to any bit of their lives but which they nevertheless seem to have a need to share. It is linguistic masturbation, a running of the tongue, speaking to just to speak. The man called Kane had learned this relatively innocuous little fact from years of observation. He had not built his business upon hard deals and fast offers like so many others had. He built it carefully upon what was not said, which made what he did say all the more meaningful. And now, with the shopkeeper busy with another customer and the day just only begun, it was a time for not speaking. For waiting and patience. For the right moment to speak.

It was an artful thing, this waiting game. Negotiation was so much more about approach and tone and timing than it was what was actually said. You could jokingly suggest to a man, while out drinking with him, that he should go to the nearest bridge and jump off it, just to see how it would feel. This, oftentimes, might be much more of a convincing argument than if you had laid out to the man all the logical reasons why he would not get hurt and why he should do it when he was sober. It was all about timing and the way things were done, which is why the thing which now drilled into the man called Kane's mind waiting to be let loose must wait. The slumbering dragon must be contained, otherwise those who might prove useful would never come near.

And so the man called Kane played this unspoken game of cat and mouse. Outwardly he was calm, serene, even slightly bemused by the quality of day it already was. Inside he was restless, but he would never let that betray him. He wandered about the store and took pointed but not too pronounced interest in the fine wares this man produced.

He certainly was an expert. A master at his art, the delicacy with which the wood was handled was beyond anything the man called Kane could remember ever seeing. It was fluid and natural, as if the wood has spoken to the man and told him just what it wanted to be. The man let out a soft, breathless sigh, a simple release of air, as he looked at various figurines and other things. He seemed not to care about the conversation between the shopkeeper and the customer. But in all earnestness it was the only thing he cared about.

He heard every word, every inflection, every sentence spoke. The way they were said, the movements and gestures associated, the entirety of the interactions between the two of them. The woman was curious and specifically gracious. She carried herself in a manner which almost purposely shy, intentionally demeaning. She was almost too polite, almost too out of place with the respect she showed. Something bugged him about her sweetness, but perhaps he was just being too interested. One can take on a tendency of over-analyzing when that is all you do. You begin looking and seeking things out which aren't actually there. Still, there was something about her.

The woman was not the only one to have secrets. Three things set him off about the shopkeeper that he could not help but notice. The first was that the he, like the woman, was too much of something. It was as if there interaction were staged. The man called Kane had witnessed this thing many times in his interactions, but rarely by two people at the same time. We all play parts, and these two were most certainly actors of a higher caliber than most. They were to processed, too polite. The man called Kane allowed his insight to overtake him as he looked at the dragon piece the shopkeeper had previously shown.

This was the second point. This and the stairs. Yes, they were built with intent, purpose, and poise, but the degree and quality to which they were built was too much. No standard woodworker would offer such gems for casual glancing.

Which led to the third point. This was not the man's main profession, or at least not his true love. He displayed his works not as a proud father but as a hobbyist, someone who enjoys doing something when other things have been taken care of. What those other things might be was what interested the man called Kane.

For this to be true he needed evidence. Wild speculation never did anyone any good, and so he decided to probe the second point. He turned to look at the shopkeeper finally, approaching to gaze with him and the girl at the chest, the guardian, and the dragon. His approach was as casual as he could make it: a buyer wandering and asking for prices. He wasn't sure whether he would buy it, but he was certainly interested in its price to know whether he would or would not. And the price, it turned out, would be the crux of his entire social investigation. So, the man called Kane asked "How much for the set?"

Now, it seemed some bigwig joined the fray. Ryu, feeling somewhat relieved and possibly just a tad worried, listened to what the man had to say; all the while remaining cautious. It seemed the man had a better head on him than the other guards. He wanted Ryu to explain himself. He wasn't so foolish to just attack without question. Perhaps there was a way out of this after all.

"Sir, my name is Ryu Katorai. I am a bounty hunter." Not seeing a reason to mention the fact that he did basically whatever job he could find, cleaning the occasional street, cooking the occasional meal, and yes, even escorting pompous merchants safely from place to place. "I had just brought in Shin Masagari, I'm sure his crimes need no explanation." Ryu held up the small, light bag that contained his payment for bringing the man in. "The payment I received was less than half of what was promised for the bounty."

Normally that wouldn't have been much of a problem, but seeing as I need this money for Rika, I can't afford to waste my time and not be paid for it...

Sighing a bit, Ryu continued. "I need that money for my wife. She is deathly ill, and I desperately need the money I work to get. I can't afford to be cheated, especially when I go above and beyond what was requested." Ryu paused for a moment, thinking how cheap he sounded, then with a bit of reluctance, continued his explanation. "Shin Masagari was returned with a large portion of what he stole. These guards however, said I only burdened them with bringing him in alive. I refused to leave without my payment, and they attacked. I had little choice but to defend myself." He paused once again, looking at the large man who had started the problem, then to the others who had joined in. "As you can see however, they are still alive. I could have been far crueler, if I were a lesser man." He ignored the crowd as he spoke, because he simply spoke the truth.

The day was beautiful, and it could have been spent in so many nicer ways. Yet, Ryu found himself here, surrounded by hostility. Did he really need to lower himself this far, just for money? Was he really allowing himself to ruin such a beautiful day? Ryu struggled with the situation in his mind, knowing that he did desperately need the money, that his wife did need medicines and he did have to pay for people taking care of her while he was away. Knowing this, he knew the answer. Yes, he had lowered himself to fighting over money, but it was needed. So long as he didn't kill anyone over it, his principles would be intact, for the most part.

"Is there no way I can simply get what was promised, and leave?" Ryu asked, looking now to the man that was seemingly a guard captain or some sort of military power. "I don't wish to fight, but I will be honest. I have no intention of rotting away in some cell, while my wife dies a slow painful death because I was unable to help her."

Ryu emitted a seriousness that could not be mistaken. He was not threatening anyone, nor was he aggressive in any way. His right hand rested near his hip, while his left simply held the small sack of coins out in refusal to accept it. His message was exactly what he said, and if his honesty was taken wrong, or the men simply didn't care, he would fight them. Even if at a disadvantage in numbers, Ryu Katorai would fight them.

Daichi Katsuo

Taking entertainment to the young girl’s reaction, Katsuo saw an opportunity to make some room in his shop. Seeing how she adored the wood work, but ignoring the bigger pieces that were common in the area, at the same time there was something he felt that wasn’t rite. He kept an enlightening smile as to not to jump off his original idea’s path. Being asked such a question seemed personal, and yet an answer for a price is, non-the-less, what she truly wanted. He would answer her two points most carefully as he slowly picked up the wood work, giving her a joyous smile as he stood up with the wood shining slightly in the light. Through its glare, he would look for other reactions, but was interrupted in his process of pricing with the other visitor.

“All three…” Katsuo said, slightly confused in this man’s actions, but answered him confidently as this would make more room to update his shop and keep the eyes of visitors entwined. Could this craft truly bring him happiness in life, the joy that his parents lived and died for? No. It couldn’t. He was slightly distracted in his own thoughts for a few seconds as he turned to see the man’s face, holding the Frog wood craft. “Your interest in my work is quite gracious,” Katsuo bowed to properly show his appreciation. “For the set, 65 yen would be acceptable,” Katsuo answered the man settling the craftwork in his hands onto a nearby table. “Also as to not disappoint, I do have extras if you’d like to see, or maybe you would prefer a much larger scale,” He said gesturing towards the closed backdoor with straight point. “I have not been able to fully open my shop, and I’m sure you would like to see the cross breeze and marvels of my greatest works before your purchase.”

Katsuo was fairly excited to have great interest in such early light, “I’m sure that a refreshing sip of water or tea would help you ease your decisions,” saying so as he walked around the table in which the small frog cabinet was placed upon. Katsuo sat into one of the chairs surrounding the table, settling his back straight onto the backrest, crossed arms and his left ankle on top of his right knee. “So would you two join me, and honor my work yet to be seen by both of your eyes?” Daichi Katsuo gestured his words to both of his visitors, excluding No one soul.

VIBRATIONS SO GOOD LIKE A SUNKIST!
Masao’s thinking was interrupted by some noise coming from the other side of the gate. He stood up right away and thought about seeing what the commotion was, but for some odd reason he didn’t feel any real danger coming from the other side. Masao turned around and headed into the castle, he thought it was time for him to see what the shoguns wishes were for the day cause he was tired of just sitting around doing nothing. Masao wasn’t sure if she was back in her throne room or still with her pet. Stopping a near by guard he asked where she was and he told him that he seen her heading into her throne room.

Masao of course was happy to hear that, only because now he doesn’t have to deal with the vampire. He made his way up to her slowly but surely. Masao was never in such a hurry to make it to her, probably cause most of the time he is too nervous to say anything unless it has to concern her life. Small talk was never something he was able to do with Midori. Sadly he could hardly even look at her at times, not because she is ugly, if that was the case then it would be easier for him, but the fact he kind of finds her attractive makes him a tongue tied fool at times.

“Well this is easy. Just walk on in and ask if she has anything she wishes” Masao was standing right in front of the door. He let out a deep breath just before he pushed open the door. He noticed her long blond hair right away and then looked into her eye. Masao swallowed hard as he walked forward, he then stopped a few feet away from Midori and kneeled down. Slowly his head went down as he tried to avoid looking at her “I… I’m here ma lord Midori Hana” his voice was a little shaky, but he just couldn’t help himself. He never had to deal with women all that much and now he follows one he finds attractive. Slowly his palms started to sweat as he swallowed hard again.

This seemed so much like a show down between two old samurai, the stillness of it while they studied one another. Of course he was large, any animal left alone could grow into great size but his was due to the supernatural link; he was close to as tall as a human which, yes was very unnatural even for his kind, but in either form he had been a runt and and the only time his growth was truly seen was in his more natural state of being an animal. While She puzzled about the state of the fox, he puzzled back.

Didn't humans normally run from something of his size? It was a primal fear that ran so deep when coming face to face with something much larger and wild, it was the reason most wolves were slain on sight even if they were doing nothing but what their instincts told them and hunted prey animals. Of course it wasn't that Yasei himself wasn't afraid, but he was afraid for a very different cause, he was concerned that she had seen his shift as he'd jumped into the river but from her lack of instant action of fighting or running while screaming about 'monster' his fear only turned to caution.

He didn't know how to act like an animal, even spending time with other foxes he couldn't understand it at all; even with his ability to 'speak' as an animal that helped nothing. So his caution turned to curiosity as he looked at this person before him, they looked as a male would but smelled as a freshly cleaned female would, did that not go against nature just as he did with his size? When she muttered to herself about his size and waved a hand at him as if to calm any nervousness she could have her hands went to her sword.

His only move was to look at her like she was stupid, one ear cocked down and a look of indignation was pretty clear on his muzzle as she told him the deal; if he had wished her harm would he have sat there for so long or even let her get to her sword in the first place? It was rather insulting to him and his pride as a swordsman, not that she would know that, but even still he was irritated. As an animal, he did not have the proper vocal cords to speak with, so he made due with simple vocalizations and facial expressions to get things across. He let out a conversational chuff at her as she wondered about his size before standing and padding into the water, looking around patiently before crouching in the water slowly. Moving out just a little deeper he stayed in the water, his main objective for coming to the river was to get food; he could easily eat two fish and depending upon how long the cross-dresser had been with out food that meant four, possibly five, fish had to be caught just to be nice.

As a fish neared him he urged it to come nearer to him and once it was within range, following his empathetic prodding he snapped it into his jaws and tossed it onto the shore. He looked at the human then to the fish that was jumping and flopping around on the rocks in its final moments, hopefully the meaning was obvious enough to her. A few more moments passed before more fish finally came to his "call" and two more fish joined the first upon the shore but it seemed no more were near enough to him for now. Slowly, the kitsune brought himself out of the water with a rather thick stream running from the middle of his sides and chest; the reddish-amber fur bleeding into the white of his under belly as the water dribbled out of his coat. Giving a rather expectant chuff at the woman he sat down on the shore not too far from the fish but not so near that she would feel uncomfortable while taking them, if she did take them.

All the while Yasei licked the water from his pelt, seeming to be too busy to notice the cross-dresser now, the kitsune did indeed pay attention to her movements. His teacher taught him that a skilled swordsman, no matter their look or gender, always used fluid motions. It was unconscious and so apart of their being that they no longer noticed it, only other swordsmen of equal or greater skill could recognize it but even then it was difficult unless the observer watched intently for a very long time. In truth, this person had him curious; it was a woman that walked about as a man, wielded a sword for an unknown purpose, and was observant enough not to dismiss him as a mere wild beast. However, he would have to leave to get his things some time perhaps even meet her on the road or while she cooked the fish to claim he followed the smell. The large vulpine plotted while he neatened himself up, keeping to a rather rocky patch so as to not get very much dirt in his coat.

"Ryu Katorai, huh?" Makoto thought. He'd heard that name before, as well as the name of the bounty he had brought along with him. He was indeed of top priority to subdue. After all, if someone could somehow sneak into the palace, steal some of the shogun's belongings, and slip away unnoticed... Well, he was grateful that that was all that happened. His method of breaking in would have to be retrieved from him--by force, if necessary.

Makoto listened to the disgruntled bounty hunter's story. His words seemed true and just, and there was no hint of malice in his tone despite the situation. He could tell that this man meant no one here any harm. And to capture Shin Masagari alive with most of what he had taken; this Ryu was truly talented. It would be such a shame to give the order to erase such talent from the face of Japan.

He gave the situation much thought. What it all came down to was money ; money that would apparently be well spent ; money that Makoto had no shortage of anyway. He had no reason to distrust this man. After all, as skilled as he were, he could have likely slain the guards and fled long before Makoto had arrived. But he didn't.

"Very well."

His right hand slowly moved away from the hilt of his katana and towards his chest plate, and - with a bit of a pause - Makoto reached behind the armor and removed a small pouch. "You did well to bring him back alive. He holds valuable information." Makoto took a few steps towards the bounty hunter before holding his right hand out to him, the pouch resting within his palm. "This should suffice." he stated, knowing well that what was within that pouch was likely much more than the written reward for the bounty.

This close to the man, Makoto took a good look into his eyes. Talent such as this would only benefit the Shogun should he be... "recruited". What's more, he had heard this man's story. Someone like this would surely want better pay, consistently. "Say, would you not rather spend your days within the services of our lord, Shogun Midori Hana?" Makoto lifted his right palm a bit more, "This, and so much more await you should you accept."

All this time, Makoto's eyes never left Ryu's, and his left hand remained upon the sheath tied to his left side. He didn't have to accept the offer, but the eyes were the windows to one's soul, and if even the slightest bit of discontent for the Shogun were reflected in this man's eyes...

Ryu listened to the man speak. It seemed that it was his lucky day after all. He had a way out of this, and on top of that, he would be getting the amount of coinage he was promised; possibly more. Something else was presented however. An opportunity to work for the Shogun. It was interesting to say the least, since Ryu didn't fully agree with how the Shogun handled some of the situations presented to her. With this offer... Ryu thought, thinking of his wife, and the pay he would be bringing in. I could better take care of Rika... Maybe, even find a cure for her....

Taking the pouch of coins from the man, Ryu slid it and the previous bag inside his robes. "Thank you." Ryu studied the man a little more closely, looking into his eyes as the man seemed to be studying Ryu as well. This man seemed very skilled, and he had to be. Not only did he seem to give off that air, but he was in a position to offer a job to a random bounty hunter to work in service of the Shogun; the man didn't get it on looks alone.

"I will accept your offer. But, you must understand something about me first." Ryu said, taking several steps away from the man, never breaking eye contact. "If I may?" He asked, slowly and clearly moving his hand to his hip, grabbing the haft of his katana. He slid out the blade of the katana, allowing it to bite the air. He quickly finished his draw, flipping the sword out in a fluid motion to come to a stop with the curved blade resting flat against his left palm.

The blade was clearly different than most, it was blunt on what would normally be the cutting side. A wickedly sharp edge ran along the reverse side, the sharpened silver steel glistened in the sun. "This blade stands as a testament to my lifestyle. I won't willingly take the life of another human, unless justifiable and with great reason. In other words, I will not murder for Shogun Midori Hana." Ryu said, still maintaining his serious yet soft tone.

Ryu, with the same fluidity, returned the katana to its sheath; never breaking his lax posture. "Shin Masagari, however, stands to show my resourcefulness and ability in combat; even if not lethal they can be a valuable asset." Ryu paused for a moment, closing his eyes for several seconds, leaning his head back. The sun still managed to be bright, even from behind his eyelids. It seemed like a fatal mistake, to let your guard down in such a way, but Ryu was still on his guard. His hand was never far from his hip, and he was constantly monitoring the chi from people around him. He could sense exactly where they were. He could feel their every breath, every movement they made was as if Ryu was moving with them.

Opening his eyes, Ryu looked to the man who was offering him the position. "I have several questions however, should you find my abilities to be satisfactory."

"I would be honored." This shopkeeper was intriguing to say the least. The excitement with which he was happy for the purchase was understandable, but it still felt as if the man was selling himself short on his abilities. The price was too cheap, but not enough to warrant any sort of cause for Kane to be suspicious.

So, he held his tongue, and sat down to drink tea with the shopkeeper and the woman, eagerly awaiting what more could be seen. He did so with an expression that did not betray this excitement, but he was nonetheless very happy to be having such a good start to the day. The fortune of those in the room seemed palpable, and they entered into a world of happiness together.

As he sat, and sipped his tea, Kane thought of another question. After taking a gentle draw from the cup, he held it in his hand. "I'm honored to be treated to such hospitality. This day is surely one of good fortune for the both of us. I do wonder, though, how you came about your training. I have not heard of you before, yet your skill seems quite superior to that of any carpenter I have ever met. I would be interested to learn more of where you derive your technique." Perhaps this approach would be able to give the man called Kane a clearer sense of just the person he was dealing with. If this was indeed the man, if this was indeed the destiny and the end result of this morning's roll, then today would be more fortuitous than he had imagined.
