Aria crouched beside the river, sliding her backpack from her shoulder and onto the bank. Her grey eyes flickered across the water, a light frown playing on her lips. Her eyes slid back to her hands and a sob escaped from her lips before she could stifle it. Blood stained her hands. Alna’s blood. Aria’s body shuddered, but she swallowed the tears she felt springing to her eyes. She had been allowed to come to this river alone only because she had revealed that she could fight in the ambush. Her job working as a karate instructor had been kept a secret from her family. And for good reason, too. Alna would not have allowed it. Just as she had not allowed Kaleyn to leave the city and just as she would not have allowed the tattoos both Aria and Kaleyn had received. Aria shook those thoughts from her mind and knelt beside the water, scrubbing away the blood. Tears blurred her vision, but she forbade them to spill over onto her cheeks. She never cried and she was not going to start now. She glanced to her shirt, but all she could see was distorted red stains on a cobalt t-shirt and blue jeans. She had held Alna in her last moments, heard her last words. “A’e doni stro ca’ndic monok’rik,” Aria whispered aloud as the words returned to her again. Those were words part of a language Alna had taught the three of them. She called it ‘The Old Language’ and said that it was a secret language just for the four of them. When she was younger, Aria loved speaking their little secret language, but as she aged, the fun was lost. Alna’s last words translated to, ‘Live to lead’. When the blood was washed away, Aria stood and opened her backpack. It was the emergency bag she kept in her car always. It held two extra sets of clothes, a large box of pencils, a thick sketchbook, a first aid kit, some food, a couple bottles of water, and a pocket knife. She pulled out a set of clothes and peeled off her bloodstained attire. When dressed in her black tank top and whitewashed jean shorts, she left the stained clothes by the river. She slid her backpack onto her back again and moved back to the camp that was set up. The camp was merely three tents packed close together around a campfire with Aria and one sibling in a tent, one agent and the other sibling in a tent, and one agent in their own tent. |

Ehatexael The pawns are all set and the game has begun. She will lead them to me, to their doom. These children are the last hope this world knows. I have quelled any thoughts of rebellion the populace are slaves to me and now these kids think they can usurp reign. What pitiful chance do they believe they have. A heavy rasping voice burst into laughter at the thought. From the shadows stepped a massive form. Pitch black skin that seemed to crawl around rivaled red hot fire that was unnaturally dark and hot. His massive bulk filled the great ante chamber of the Dragons castle. His horns barely missing the roof a hundred feet up. In the far corner in the furthest place in the room from him cowed five Elves. They were the Council of Magi and were thought to be a threat to him. There had originally been a full circle of thirteen of them, but they had tried to send him back to Hell. That didn't sit right with him so he slowly and painfully picked apart eight of them and when the five left pleaded on their knees to spare their lives he did. Though at a cost far greater than they were willing to pay. Their cost had been for them to give up their power to him. All they had left was a tiny spark of their former power and the knowledge to cast great magics, but if they were to try any magic, even one so simple as to light a candle, it would drain their lives and they would be dead. It had seemed a fitting punishment for them and he received some semblance of joy from their agonized faces. A sharp rap came at the door that was repeated thrice before the great doors opened. The young man that came through didn't flinch at the sight because before him walking out of a black mist stood Jino Farstrider. What is it Rashie! You know better then to disturb me when my guests are here. Hurry speak boy before I gut you. Rashie was visibly shaking at the threat he had received and began to stammer out his report. A raven has just arrived. T-th-the elf Alna is dead m-my liege. The heirs have have escaped along with the three from the re-sistence. They have appeared to have vanished with out a trace of them. Our sources tell us th.... Rashies eyes became transfixed to the spear that had appeared in his chest and his eyes hazed over as he slumped to the floor. Bah! Bad news yet again. Altan better have a good explanation as to why they are not dead when he gets here or I will flay the bastard alive. Rage shown bright in his eyes as he slammed his fist into a pillar cracking it. Leave me now unless you wish to be my meal. Tell the guards to send them in on your way out. As the mages turned to leave a black mist enveloped Jino and when it dissipated Ehatexael stood in his place once again. Once out of the room the mages began to run but they were unable to escape the blood curdling screams that emanated from the ante chamber. Kaleyn Ryder Rage filled Kal as he crashed through trees and undergrowth letting forth spouts of fire every few seconds. He didn't even know how far he had gone or how much forest he had burned but he didn't care. The only mother he had ever known has been killed. The person responsible had to be the person who had killed his parents and had taken over his kingdom. The man would pay if it cost him his last breath. Finally he had blown off enough steam and turned around. He had no clue how he had turned into a dragon or how to change back so he began to trudge through the burning forest toward where he assumed the campsite was. It was easy to tell when he got near. He has intentionally went miles before starting to burn the forest so as not to hurt his family. They were the only family he had and if any harm were to befall them he wouldn't know what to do. Crossing the river and entering the camp Kal curled around the fire and began to mourn. A low saddening sound came from his throat the quieted any animals still around. Even the wind seemed to feel the sadness and stopped and as if on cue the sky darkened and began to rain. With the rain Kal began to cry. As the tears hit the ground they began to eat away at the earth. |

The fires around him burned, but Altan felt a chill. Is ran all along his spine, branching out in waves across the rest of his skin. The elf was dead and the house was burning, but the heirs had gotten away. He had failed. He brought up his sword and began wiping the blood from it. The elf's blood stained his cloth, but he could clean that out later. The raven had been sent to tell Jino of the failure, and Altan pitied the man who had been forced to deliver his message. The demon lord didn't exactly believe in not shooting the messenger. If it angered him, he killed it. Simple as that. And right now Altan had a sneaking suspicion that he had angered his master. This was not going to be a pleasant conversation. He knelt down, the fires still raging about him. Pulling out a small bowl, he filled it with water from his flask. Then, pulling out a dagger, he cut his arm where he always did, allowing a little blood to dribble past the thin scars that were already there. The droplet fell into the small bowl of water, and as soon as it touched the surface it turned the water inside a deep crimson. In Jino's chamber there was a much larger bowl, a small pool. As soon as he reached his hand into that chalice a larger, water-formed image of him rose from the pool in Jino's chamber. The image was half-formed, good enough to see where eyes should be, but watery enough to not be able to make out the details of them. It was an eerie sight for onlookers to behold, but it was Altan's main form of communication with his master while still in the field. "My lord," the image knelt, "as you by now no doubt know, the heirs have escaped. I can only offer my deepest apologies. The elf was more prepared than we expected, and I have lost my men. I will not rest until I find them and kill them, my lord. That I can assure you. The fault of this is my own to correct." He remained kneeling, awaiting the anger which would surely flow against him. |

Things had happened too quickly for any of them to actually do anything. Alna was gone now. Alysha felt that something inside of her might have died at that same moment the elder elf had passed. As a hunter and rebel, she knew what death and destruction looked like. Up until now, though, the young elf hadn't lost anyone particularly close to her or anyone she had known for most of her life. Even then, she did not cry. Alysha knew better than to shed tears for someone who died doing their job. There were also more important things to do, like keeping the heirs in their place with her and the others. This was an attack to get to the kids and she and the other two had to be on high alert at all times. Alysha sheathed her weapon. It would do no good now that the enemy was gone. Damage control would not benefit from anyone else getting injured. She had to think of a place to begin. Kaleyn had transformed and was now running through the woods. Aria had gone off to the river. She felt someone should go after the dragon child and shadow the lycanthrope. The other was in shock it seemed or just had not had the time to process what had happened yet. Her process of thought was interrupted when a sound came toward them. Alysha's hand went straight to the hilt of her blade. It hovered over for an instant until she saw that it was Aria. Her muscles relaxed but only giving in slightly. A crushing sound followed Aria's entrance into the campsite. Kaleyn had morphed into his dragon form and was coming back. Once again Alysha's tension eased. Now that everyone was part of the group again, she began to circle the campsite, her eyes trained on the trees and the ground. She wanted to see if anything else was going to attack soon. She stopped at one point and said to no one in particular, "We should move soon." |

Hughes sat around the campfire. He had his text book opened on his lap. It looked like he was skipping through pages every five minutes, but he was actually not paying attention. The earlier events were running through his mind. The eleven woman, Alna, had been killed. Luckily, none of the heirs had been killed or injured. One of the heirs, Aria, came back from wherever she had went. Not long after, Kal, who was the second heir, came marching back to the camp in his dragon form. The sorcerer took only a quick glance at him. He just wanted to get picture of what a dragon looked like. Someone should have been keeping an eye on them while they left the camp area. The Powerful and Marvelous Hughes would have done it in a heart beat, but he decided not to. The closest mother figured that the young heirs had in life had been killed. They had a right to have some time to be alone. When it started to rain, Hughes sighed and closed his book. He was about to go into his tent when Alysha made an appearance. When she had mentioned something about leaving soon, the sorcerer looked at her and asked, "Is it a good idea to leave in this kind of weather? It might slow us down. My awesome magic can do nothing about that...yet." |

Aria moved her eyes from the elf to the sorcerer with an expressionless appearance. Her eyes fell upon Kal and a frown tugged at the corners of her lips. She reached out to touch him reassuringly, but pulled back her hand to place a fist on her chest. She knew Kal enough to fear that he would be angry at her for her concern. She turned her eyes to the tent where she had last seen Zi disappear into. She frowned even further and stepped towards the tent, crouching in front of the flaps. "Zi?" Aria called out hesitantly, "Are you going to come out?" "Um... I don't think I will..." came Zi's reply in the loud voice that seemed to be the only volume she could talk in. "Why not?" The lycanthrope replied, tilting her head to one side, pushing slightly on the flaps of the tent. When she heard no response, she pushed aside the flap and entered the tent. In an instant, Aria was back to the outside of the tent on her back, her hand over her mouth, a surprised expression on her face. Slowly, Aria peeled away her hand and slowly sat up. "Zi... come out...." Aria called, trying to remain calm. Hesitantly, the tent flaps opened and Zi slowly stepped out into the open. Her skin was blue and her hair had grown and had a purple tint. Dark blue spots sparsely covered parts of her legs and arms. Huge dark blue butterfly anteneas curled from her head and large butterfly wings of pink, yellow, green, purple, and blue had sprouted from her back, tearing her shirt in the process. "I'm blue..." Zi whispered, though her voice was still sort of loud, as she hung her head in shame and embarassment. Edited by Comix, July 13, 2011, 2:51 am.

Ehatexael His meal was satisfying elf children for starters with a rare dragon pup for a side dish followed by three human adults. Nothing quite satisfied him like dragon meat. Turning around at the sound of Altans voice. Turning back into Jino he walked over to the basin. You fool I told you to kill them! The care taker is not enough. You will come to me now or you will live to regret it. I have a back up plan incase something like this happened. Slashing at the water with his arm it dropped back into the basin effectively cutting of the communication. Kal[/color] One of their escorts spoke. Leave how could they leave he thought. Roaring he shot a jet of flame not a foot away from her. His disapproval was evident. He would not be leaving now or any time soon. They could try and force him to move but his tail and the weight of his body would prevent them from accomplishing that task. Resting his head on the ground he began to drift off to sleep. |

Altan blinked hard a few times, as if wiping water from his eyes. "I hate it when he does that." Severing the connection physically was very trying upon the sender. Altan knew Jino knew this, which meant that he was most certainly not happy. Rubbing his hair in vague frustration, he turned to survey the scene of devastation. It was annoying that they had escaped, beyond so in fact. It would cost him much to gain them back, but his master seemed to be endeared enough to Altan's usefulness to not off him the moment he arrived. Altan walked over to the body of the elf and began preparations for departure. Cutting her open, he used her blood to draw elaborate markers and circles around her, adorning them with ancient demonic runes. Once she ways flayed out in the center, he stepped onto the corpse and began reciting the traveling hymn. Fire consumed the body and rose up along his person. There was no heat to it, however, and it shined purple with the incantation's power. After focusing upon the chamber of his lord, he allowed the fire to engulf his person. One moment he was standing in the circle on the bloodied entrails of the care taker, and the next he was standing amid Ehatexael's chamber. He could tell it was dinner time. The smell of death here was stronger than that he had left. Kneeling down before his lord and master, Altan announced himself. "My lord, I have arrived as you have requested." He awaited what would most assuredly not be a pleasant discussion. |

A flicker of anger flashed in her eyes as people denied her idea for movement. Since Alna was dead and gone, they were still sitting in the same spot. If Jino and his minions wanted, they could track their little group down without a problem. Then again, as Hughes pointed out, the weather could be a hindrance and moving a dragon would prove problems. Alysha hadn't moved. She stood in the same spot, eyes fixed on everything and nothing. She was try to hear anything but nothing came. Deep down, she was a little annoyed but no one would be able tell just looking at her. Her eyes were empty and her face was void of any emotion. She stood near the tents and just thought. They had to do something but the group was uninspired. They had to get over their emotions and move on. Their own lives were on the line and she was beginning to think they didn't realize it. |

Hughes "Nevermind that, seems my marvelous powers can. One moment." He'd found the spell he was looking for. Stretching his hands and cracking his neck, he reached out wide to the sky, and began mumbling an incantation. As he did so, the sky began to clear, the rain began to let up, the wind began to quiet. No need for too much showmanship, the young sorcerer thought to himself. They just needed to get moving is all. As the weather cleared, the sorcerer set his hands down, ceasing his incantation with a quiet last line. "Weather'll take care of itself now, I believe." Hughes picked up his book and placed it in his pack, and turning to Alysha he said, "Shall we press on then? Or should we sit here on our thumbs for a bit longer?" |

Aria smiled at her younger sister, on the verge of laughing. She placed her hand over her mouth to hold it in. In an instant, the Lycanthrope's face fell when her brother shot the wave of flame. She opened her mouth to say something to him, but stopped at the painful reminder that, technically, he wasn't her brother. Her eyes moved to the sorcerer and her frown deepened. A sigh escaped her lips and she move to Kal. Ignoring the feeling that he would be mad, she placed her hand on his head, kneeling down beside him to wrap an arm around his neck. "Don't go to sleep... Just listen to me... I know you're upset, but Alna wanted the best for us. And that means we have to go with these people. I don't want you to get hurt... And she didn't either..." Aria whispered to him, gently petting his scales. Then, she lowered her voice even further so her fairy sister couldn't hear. "I don't want to do this either, but it's the right idea... If you won't do it for me, will you do it for Zi? She can't look after herself and without us to stop her, she'll drive these two crazy and they'll kill her..." Zi approached the elf, tilting her head to one side. "Where will we be going from here? And how will we be able to hide the fact that we have a huge dragon with us?" She asked in her load voice, one antennae twitching. "And how come me and Kal have changed, but Aria hasn't?" She asked, sighing as she looked down at one large blue spot on her arm. She rubbed at it, but it didn't go anywhere. Again, she sighed, her head rolling on her shoulder to look to the sorcerer with a bemused expression. "With your oh-so-great powers, can you turn me and my brother back to normal? Or... you know, human..." |
