THE STORY For as long as any living human can remember, the Shifter tribes of Hawk and Raven have plagued any merchant ship that dared to cross through their waters. The humans have lost a great deal of wealth to these winged fiends, and after carefully considering several options, they decided to hit the birds where it hurts. The Jade Kingdom--the largest human country in Cadea--has decided to take action. The royal family enlisted the help of a band of mercenaries to put an end to the Shifter's piracy once and for all. Their plan was to steal away a member of Heron Shifter royalty. Considering the revered status of the Herons, this would certainly get the attention of the Shifters. So they journeyed to the island of the Shifters, and they succeeded in their goal: they kidnapped the Heron Prince. With the Prince in tow, the mercenaries returned to their ship and set sail. It didn't take long for the Shifters to realize the Prince was gone, though. And as soon as they did, they sent out search parties to find him. The Hawk King and Raven King themselves joined in the search, desperate to find the delicate Heron Prince and rescue him from his captors, hoping they wouldn't be too late to save him from whatever fate the humans had in store for him. RULES - I am in charge. My word is law. - Follow the EL ToS. - No power playing, God-moding, etc. - Posts must be at least two paragraphs in length. Correct spelling and grammar is expected, occasional typos aside. - No killing a PC without permission from the character's controller and me. NPCs are fair game for killing, though. - Post character sheets in the OOC topic for my approval. Do not post in the OOC topic unless you have been approved. If I do not post and say that your character has been approved, check the Accepted Characters list in the OOC topic. If your character has been listed, then it has been accepted. - Please be active. At least a post a day would be nice, but please don't join if you're going to go for days without posting. - Violence is likely to occur in this roleplay, but please do not go into graphic detail when describing the violence. Romance is allowed, but once again, no graphic detail. If you must, then take such scenes to PMs. Strong language is also permissible, but not in excess. Be reasonable. - Be respectful of your fellow roleplayers. - These rules may change as needed. You will be informed if they do. SETTING NOTES Magic: Humans have mastered the art of magic. There are several varieties of magic, which are listed below. --Elemental Magic: Includes Thunder, Wind, and Fire magic. Mages who practice Elemental Magic often use two of the three kinds. Only the most practiced of mages are able to command all three. Thunder magic is the most powerful kind, but also the least accurate. Wind magic is the weakest, but is the most accurate. Fire is in the middle. All Elemental Magic has an advantage over Light Magic. --Light Magic: Practitioners of Light Magic are often called Monks or Clerics. A branch of Light Magic is Healing Magic, which most self-respecting Monks and Clerics practice. Light Magic has an advantage over Dark Magic. --Dark Magic: Practitioners of Dark Magic are referred to as Druids. Dark Magic is the most powerful sort of magic, but is the most difficult to use and is disastrous if it goes wrong. Dark Magic has an advantage over Elemental Magic. Shifters: Humanoid beings which are able to transform into animals. Sustaining their animal form is tiring, so they tend to only shift when it is necessary for them to do so. The three races of Shifters present in Cadea include the following. --Hawk: Hawk Shifters are physically intimidating beings. Their senses of vision and hearing are unmatched by any other race, and they are stubborn in the extreme. Hawk Shifters are, largely, faithful and trustworthy beings, believing that deception is a sign of weakness in those who practice it. They have only recently begun raiding human merchant ships and port towns, but they have quickly become quite skilled at it. --Raven: Though not as strong as the Hawks, Raven Shifters have other advantages over their winged brethren: intelligence. Ravens are crafty Shifters who are known for their elaborate schemes, which are often successful. Anything you hear from a Raven should be taken with a grain of salt, since they are known to be liars and cheaters. Not to say that there aren't honest Ravens among them, but stereotypes are difficult things to eliminate. Especially when so many of them still fit the bill. They are the ones who started the act of "shipless piracy," and their tribe has amassed quite the fortune--and the infamy--from these thefts. --Heron: The Heron Shifters are a delicate race. They do not venture out onto the seas, nor do they engage in acts of violence against humans or other Shifters. Being in the presence of violence is enough to make one of them ill. Their bodies are fragile, but what they lack in physical prowess they more than make up for with their wisdom and their own forms of magic. Heron Shifters practice a form of magic that works through songs. These songs can have a variety of effects, including bolstering allies, weakening foes, and even healing wounds. They also can, to some extent, read a person's soul and judge how effective their songs will be. Because of this magic and their beauty, Heron Shifters are treated almost as deities by the other Shifters. They are protected by both the Hawk and Raven Shifter clans. Name: Razael Age: Appears to be in his early twenties. Is actually nearing a hundred. Gender: Male Race: Shifter --If Shifter: Heron Role/Occupation: Other --If Leader: n/a --Of Other: Heron Prince Side: Shifter Alignment: Good Appearance: Razael Personality: So far as Herons go, Razael is a bit of an oddity. He has spent more time among the Hawks than he has among his own kind, and as such he has picked up some of their habits. Like strong words and a bit of a temper. He acts "normal" when among his own kind, but when he's with the Hawks or Ravens, he does what he can to fit in. History: Razael is the only son of the Heron King, and as such is the heir to his father's position as leader of the Heron clan. His father thought it wise for Razael to spend time with the other Shifter races and form closer relationships with them beyond the reverence that the other Shifters show for the Herons, and Razael was more-than-willing to do this. He spent many years among the Hawks in particular, learning about them and their views. He also visited the Ravens, but their devious ways bothered him after spending so much time with the more-honorable Hawks. Up until this point, Razael has never been in close proximity to humans. The Ravens brought him with them on a pirating venture once, and that was the first time he'd even seen a human. But the flight over the seas made him wonder what was on the other side of that expanse of water, and unlike the rest of his kind, he found himself longing to get out in the world and see what it had to offer him. The Hawks and Ravens seemed to know much about what was out there, and he wanted to know, as well. In the middle of the night, he was captured by a band of humans. Razael fainted when the humans grabbed him, and when he came to, he found himself locked in a small room on a human ship... Weapons: n/a Magic: Heron Songs --If Elemental: n/a Other Information: n/a also worth noting that both Shifter Kings have been spoken for, but the role of the mercenary leader is still open Edited by That Butler, May 31, 2011, 6:26 pm.

Name: Kael Age: 75 Gender: Male Race: Raven Shifter Role/Occupation: Raven King Side: Shifter Alignment: Good Appearance: ![]() Personality: A fairly kind man Kael is not how you would picture the average Raven to be like. Instead of a cruel dictator that rules his people with an iron fist, he treats each of them as his family. Even though he is kind he is seeminly unhappy with never a smile on his face in public. Though his closest friend can make him feel less sad happiness is forever out of his reach. History: As a child Kael was groomed to be a dominant leader by his father. His father had been King for almost two hundred years and had finally decided that he would produce an heir. He wanted Kael to be the most ruthless ruler the Ravens had ever seen and to take them to new heights. All was going well until a human Magi snuck into the castle a placed a curse on Kael that was supposed to kill him. Instead the curse mutated into something else. Instead of killing him it instead put the emotion of happiness out of his reach. With his new forced outlook on life Kael began to slowly change. By the age of thirty his father had died and Kael took his place as leader. At first there was much opposition to him becoming the ruler. They did not want Targarian's son as a ruler due to the way Targarian had ruled, but within a months time the way Kael had begun to rule had won them over. Name: Kadrael Age: Appears to be in his late 20's, but is actually around his 120's Gender: Male Race: Shifter --If Shifter: Hawk Role/Occupation: Leader --If Leader: Hawk King Side: Shifter Alignment: Good Appearance: Spoiler: click to toggle Personality: Kadrael is an absolutist. He believes in the loyalty and superiority of the shifters, he believes in immediate justice, and he believes that it is better to be cautious than to act in haste stupidly. These may seem contrasting, but for Kadrael they are essential to good leadership. He is almost subdued in his actions, but always strong in them and always with a clear intention. He's not blunt, though. He's just straightforward. He sees good and evil as being cemented for everyone by their actions, but also believes in a doctrine of forgiveness. History: Kadrael has been the King of the Hawks for almost half his life now, having inherited the title from his father who fell during a raiding party. Originally thought to be weak and slow to act, the Hawks became aware that his methods were not only more cautious than his father's but also more successful in many ways. Kadrael has led the Hawks with a cool and calculated measure ever since, which in turn has left them with more successful raids and fewer losses. Kadrael has never liked the Raven's methods, believing them to be too reckless and toofar in the grey area. They fall under his definition of evil, and he does his best to keep his tribe separated from theirs for the well-being of both. Having witnessed the underhanded tactics of the Ravens plenty of times, Kadrael has taken his stance of segregation to newer heights, even going so far as to punish Hawks for interaction with them. |

EN, the main problem I have with your profile is your character's age. 25 is very young for a Shifter. Their lifespan is a handful of centuries. A 25-year-old Shifter is the equivalent of a little kid. If you want him to look like a teenager, then I'd recommend him being 60 or so. For being in his mid-twenties, I'd recommend having him be somewhere in the ballpark of 90. Edit: I've decided to make another character. I'll be making one of the mercenaries, and an option I had neglected to mention came to mind: there can be Shifter-human hybrids. They don't have a specific name for their race, but they are considered by both races to be abominations. Humans and Shifters who make such offspring, if discovered, are always killed and their children along with them. If someone does manage to have a half-breed kid without being discovered, the half-breed always has to keep what he/she is a secret. Since discovery usually means being killed. They live about as long as Shifters, and they cannot take on an animal form; however, they are usually quite gifted when it comes to magic. I'm going to be making one of these as my second character. He's going to be the first-mate on the mercenary ship, but we still need a leader for the mercenaries. So if you want to make a human, please consider the mercenary leader role. Name: Hael Age: Somewhere around 110 Gender: Female Race: Hawk Shifter Role/Occupation: Traitor Side: Mercenary Alignment: "Evil" Appearance: Hael Personality: Hael has a violent, explosive temper, she's insanely stubborn, and she has the tendency to believe she's always right. She's very outspoken; if she wants to say something, she'll say it, and she'll make sure you hear it. She's controlling, vindictive, and just generally bitchy. She's sadistic, cruel, and unforgiving, and will use any excuse to harm someone she dislikes. Surprisingly, she's not one for lying, unless it's to save her own hide. Actually, she thinks it's just too much trouble to keep up with any lie she tells, rather than her truthfulness being the effect of some sense of goodness. On that note, she's lazy and selfish. She's rough in how she speaks and acts, and doesn't care what you think, unless you dare to have a differing opinion. She holds humans and Heron shifters in high contempt. History: As a child, Hael had been normal. As her name states, she was even kind. That lasted for a while until her parents were killed protecting a Heron shifter. After that, she adopted a more pessimistic view on life, especially against the Herons. She blamed them for her parent's deaths. After that incident, she became the woman she is now, quite the opposite of what she once was. Everyone knew that she hated the Herons after that, but no one had thought she would take action against them. In her heart, she believes that the Herons aren't as godly as everyone makes them out to be; they're weak, but otherwise just like every other Shifter. They're heathens for allowing the treatment to continue, but some part of her still stopped at the thought of killing them. Maybe a bit of leftover superstition, but she couldn't do it -- yet. For now, she just wants to rile them into action, have them prove that they're actually nothing special. So, she entered an uneasy pact with the band of mercenaries that were hired to, ironically, kill any Shifter. That made initial negotiations difficult to say the least, but it happened eventually. |

Hey folks. I'm back from the Bahamas, and will be able to post the IC topic soon. I need to post the mercenaries' first mate, which will be a male half-breed. Also, if anyone wants to make a mercenary, that would be great. We only have two including the one I'm going to be making, and I'd prefer to have four or so. Otherwise, they're quite outnumbered by the Shifters. |

Name: Vaarsuvius Age: 142 Gender: Male Race: Shifter --If Shifter: Hawk Role/Occupation: One of the Knights of the Hawk King Side: Shifter Alignment: Neutral for the most part, but definitely leaning towards evil. Appearance: Vaarsuvius is a perfect image of a proud, powerful Hawk knight. He towers over most humans at a height of 6'8 (considered quite tall even amongst the Hawk Shifters), and in full armour he weighs in at nearly 330 pounds. He has entirely black hair that reaches straight down at the furthest down around his ears, and his eyes are keen, sharp, and a dull, iron-like colour. His entire body is powerfully built and broad shouldered, most of his 200 pounds coming from muscle and height rather than from fat. His face showcases sharp, jutting features, with a prominent jawline, high, pronounced cheekbones, and thin lips often pulled back in a scowl. Personality: The most prominent feature of Vaarsuvius is his hatred of humans. He is openly racist (species-ist?) towards all humans, finding them abhorrent; Vaarsuvius considers them on the whole inferior and little more than pests, and believes that as such they should be exterminated as pests. He feels that the humans pulling such a 'depraved, lowly attack' such as kidnapping the prince of the Heron tribe was only a matter of time in happening, and considers it a result of the Shifters' failure to crush the human kingdoms before they 'became a problem'. His extreme beliefs caused some raised eyes when he was knighted by the King, but his hatred of humans in fact only complements his zealous loyalty to the Hawk Kingdom rather than defies it. Like most people with such extreme beliefs, this hatred is deeply rooted in Vaarsuvius, and he rebuffs any rational argument or logic against them. Outside his hatred of humans, Vaarsuvius tends to come off as rather arrogant and surely, making him even more unlikeable. He is very gruff and one for action rather than words, and as such he has a very 'draw your sword and stick it in someone, ask questions later' sort of attitude, especially where humans are concerned. Vaarsuvius holds himself to an extremely high standard, as well as others; the slightest perceived failure will cause him to believe he is starting to slip, and drives him to work all the harder to improve, and he is easily angered when he feels someone else can (or thinks they can) do his job better than he can. Vaarsuvius doesn't have much of a temper to speak of. His temper flares out of control easily, and unfortunately he tends to become rather violent at such times, especially where humans or the Hawk kingdom is concerned. Though in an argument he is stubborn and refuses to admit he was wrong, while on a mission he is often the first to take credit for a failure, even if he wasn't responsible for it; Vaarsuvius tends to place the responsibility of the mission squarely on himself. As a result, he also tends to expect others to follow his orders, and doesn't take it well when someone disregards them. History: Vaarsuvius, like many other Hawk Knights, was born into his duty. Both his parents belonged to a small group of the Hawk Tribe that advocated outright war with the human kingdoms, and as a child the young Vaarsuvius completely accepted his parents' beliefs--in fact, as he grew older, he took them to a whole new level. His father in particular, a mentor and figure of authority to Vaarsuvius, ingrained his personal beliefs in his child--zealous loyalty to the Hawk Tribe, suppression of feelings and attachments to other people, and an absolute drive to constantly improve and perform at full efficiency. Vaarsuvius spent the years before becoming a true knight of the Hawks leading raids on human ships, and so he considers himself something of an expert on their ways (though, ironically, in reality he knows only their perceived negative qualities). In the advent of his final knighting and 'rite of passage' into becoming a true knight of the Hawks, Vaarsuvius' involvement in raids on the human merchant ships slowed and eventually ceased as he was constantly on duty guarding the King himself. Vaarsuvius feels that rather than searching for Razael, the Shifters should be invading the human kingdoms and punishing the humans for this heinous crime. However, as he has been ordered to take part in the search by the Hawk King himself, Vaarsuvius carries out his duties without complaint--regardless of how he feels it should actually be done. |
