Harriet heard her orders and understood. Some scrambled eggs were brought out for Tera, carefully seasoned. They were delicious. Evidently, Harriet was a brilliant cook, at least at these meals she had probably been cooking her entire life. She ate too, but insisted on a smaller portion, and only sat at the table with Tera's insistence. The empty bowls were whisked away to be cleaned later, and Harriet was ready to go. Harriet looked surprisingly excited, though it probably wasn't the prospect of going outside that got her so joyful. "I await your command, Master" |

Tera ate her food, offering Harriet a seat near her. When they finished and were ready to go Tera could see the enthusiasm, it didnt quite click that it wasnt the prospect of 'outside' but probably the prospect of 'serving'. In any case Tera liked the enthusiasm. She got into the car, and had Harriet sit in the passenger seat, even if she debated. As she drove into towna question started gnawing at her mind. "So. What was granddad like? I mean I never even knew he existed beside one or two letters when I was a girl." What Tera was really asking was 'what kind of man would have a slave' but she wouldn't say it aloud. [[Feel free to make up some things that wasnt talked about in the pm (if anything was...well feel free to make stuff up XD]] |

Harriet sat in the passenger seat without hesitation. Anywhere else could easily be taken as an offence to her master. Sitting in the back seat would mean she is being chauffeured, sitting in the drivers seat would mean she is being dominant. Harriet couldn't drive anyway, so that was no problem. "Your grandfather was a brilliant man, master! Though he did not always enjoy company, he was always kind to me, except when I misbehaved. He never hit me and always told me that I was lucky that he was a kind master. I've served him for my whole life. In his last days, he knew he was going, Harriet began to speak of his death with tears in her eyes, "so I made everything as comfortable as possible for him. When the life went from his body, I held my tears in till I had finished up with his dealings and arranged his funeral. He is buried in the garden, behind the house." That was probably the massive angel statue in the corner of the garden, easily visible from any window that faced it, such as Tera's bedroom window. |

Tera was surprised to hear that the man who kept HArriet as a slave was 'kind'. He hadn't hit her, and Harriet seemed to be crying as she spoke of him. "You never wished for anything more? Like a life of your own? You can be honest, I wont be mad...and please call me Tera..." Seeing as this was a new place, Tera was completely lost, she had absolutely no clue where anything was and had probably driven past the town hall four times already just looking for the grocery store. |

"Anything more, Master Tera? Why would I want ... anything more...? I have all I need." Harriet seemed confused, but her mind was easily taken off of her confusion by her master's apparent lack of direction. She pointed out the little market shop and waited patiently as Tera parked. She stepped out of the car, waiting to see what her master would do. "You need not accompany me as I purchase groceries. I need only your money." Harriet smiled. The only thing she really knew about money was that it bought the groceries and that giving away less of it was good. She didn't understand entirely where it came from, or even that her master might not always have some. It had never been a problem for her old master, as he was wealthy from business deals in a bygone age. |

Tera didn't like hearing that Harriet didn't want anything more, but she eventually dismissed it as her never having known anything else. When the market was finally pointed out Tera drove over and parked. She climbed out of the car and smiled toward Harriet, who said she could buy everything needed. "But you don't know what I like." Tera stated with a grin before motioning for Harriet to follow her. "If you see anything you think you may need, or want, just tell me. Even if its a spice that you feel would kick the meals up a notch." |

Harriet gave a smile at her note. It was good to hear that her master didn't care too much about a bill! After all, part of her inheritance had been the remainder of her previous master's money, who had been living quite well. Harriet began a conversation as they walked through the store. "What sort of food does master like? I know how to cook many things, but ..." she looked around uneasily for a moment, as though she were about to commit a deadly sin, "I... I would like some n-newer cookbooks, if it doesn't bother you too much. I don't need them, it's just a suggestion, I don't mean any offence..." Despite her grovelling nature when it came to the subject of requesting something for herself, she didn't worry about loading up her basket with many things. Fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as quite a few herbs. Though she was only buying food for a week or so, it looked like she planned to cook a feast. |

Tera moved up and down the isle, looking at all the food on the shelves. "Pizza, noodles, cheese, apples, oranges, beef, fish, mashed potatoes." Tera repeated everything that she was grabbing. "Orange juice, soda, milk, ooo Ice-cream." She continued grabbing things until she had filled up her cart, then started back to pay, grabbing a book on the way there. She paid for her food, and what Harriet grabbed, then went toward the car and, with hairiest help, started putting everything in .She carefully packed the cars trunk like she was playing tetris, then got into the car, before handing Harriet the book she grabbed, it was the cookbook she requested. "If theres anything in there you want to make, but lack the sources, just ask." She stated with a smile before starting to drive back home. |

Harriet smiled as though it was her birthday. She held the book to her chest, hugging it close to her. "Thank you, master Tera!" she bowed. Stepping into the car, Harriet seemed to be treating that cookbook like the holy grail. It was just an ordinary cookbook, specialising in Italian cuisine, but it wasn't made of gold or anything. It wouldn't take much thought to realise what this gift meant to her, or indeed how often she ever got such gifts. She had read every page back and front before they arrived home, and was still reading it. It seemed that her love for her new master had increased. |

Tera smiled as Harriet clung tightly to the book, reading over every page. "So. Do you have a plan for lunch?" She asked as she pulled into the drive and started through the gate leading up to her home. "It doesn't have to be chosen right now, we still have a few hours." She laughed some as she stopped and started unloading the car, "Though hours do pass by fairly quickly when you think about it." |

"Yes! I do have a plan for this lunch!" Harriet announced with glee. She took the remaining shopping bags (which was almost all of them) and struggled inside. Harriet wasn't exactly a very large woman, so it was quite the strain. She refused all offers of help, and eventually made it. Turning to her master, she explained her lunch plan. It was the first item on the cookbook, a particularly tasty looking lasagna. There was a slight omen in her voice, that this cookbook would be used almost to death and back if Tera didn't stop her. "You are very generous, Master. My last master said many a time, 'Generosity is the key to downfall'! I don't know why he said it, though..." Edited by CinquantaSei, February 14, 2011, 10:27 pm.

Teraplaced the grocreys down then turned to go for more but saw Harriet carrying them all. She tried offering help but Harriet refused and eventually made it in too. She then explained her lunch plan, which was lasagna, it looked quite tasty, and she couldn't wait to actually taste it. When she was told she was generous tera gave a light laugh, "No, no. I just want to make sure you are also happy. It just wouldn't be right otherwise." She lightly rubbed the back of her neck before hugging Harriet some, "I doubt you were ever thanked before, but thank you for everything you do around here." With that she turned and started out of the kitchen, "Im going to go read a book, tell me when its lunch time." |

Harriet blushed again as she was hugged. Physical contact was not something she was used to, but it was definitely welcome. "Th-Thank you, master Tera..." she bowed deeply. Harriet listened to her and bowed again. "I shall inform the master when her lunch is ready." It was still early in the day, so Harriet tasked herself with cleaning. Her first stop was her Master's room, where the bed was made and any loose clothing was neatly folded and placed on top of the wardrobe. It was as clean as when Tera had arrived. |

Tera spend the hours until reading, she had seen a few books in the study she felt like reading, one was Stephen Kings It. She had gotten through afew chapters fairly quickly, but eventually stood and went to the bathroom, before simply roaming the halls. She inherited her grandfathers house, most of his money, and a share in his business. Granted she wasn't owner but she was getting some money from it. That was good cause she didn't really have a job yet, she worked part time at some places but nothing major. The house and land was paid for meaning the only money that needed to be spent was utilities and food, so the money would last some time. In any case Teras mind was more on her maid. Harriet was a slave, something Tera didn't like, so she was thinking of how to help Harriet get used to freedom. |

Harriet finished cleaning what little there was to clean and had also finished cooking lunch. The lasagna smelt beautiful, the scent wafting through the whole house. It was almost unnecessary for Harriet to ring the lunch bell, but she did regardless. "Lunch is served, my master!" came her call. Lunch was laid out wonderfully, as usual. If Tera knew anything about Italian dining, she'd realise how Italian the setting was, too. Breadsticks and little rolls laid carefully in a basket, along with parmesan cheese in a little silver bowl. There was even a rather nice looking bottle of wine sitting there next to a pitcher of water, should Tera feel such a need. Harriet was standing back in the shadows, as she usually would do. |

By the time the bell was rung Tera was already on her way there. "The food smells really good." She stated as she entered the dining room and sat down. She looked over all the food around and smiled. "And looks really delicious." Glancing toward Harriet she motioned for the maid to come join, "You just love the shadows don't you." She laughed as she started eating. A light 'mmm' coming from her as she ate. She didn't really drink much alcohol so she primarily drank the water. |

"Thank you for the compliment, master Tera." Harriet gave a deep bow. At her gesture, Harriet pulled her chair from the shadows and sat down nearby. Allowing her master a slight head-start, she took a small portion of food and began to eat. She ate quickly, hungrily. It was notable that Tera had never seen her eat, apart from the times she had been commanded to. It barely seemed like she ate anything at all. Just enough to keep herself going. |

Tera gave a light sigh as Harriet ate, she was chowing down with such zeal. "Harriet." Tera said calmly, "I want you to eat more, if your hungry enough to not savor your own finely cooked meal, then you aren't eating enough. When you make me a meal, I want you to make more, of the same thing, for you." She glanced toward Harriet with a smile as she popped a bit more of the lasagna into her mouth and chewed. |

"Y-Yes master Tera, b-but... I eat enough. I do not need any more than I have eaten." she protested weakly. Having finished, she stood, moved her plate aside, cleaned her face with a cloth and took the plate into the kitchen. She returned promptly, back to her place in the shadows behind Tera. Harriet was silently waiting for her master to finish. It was almost a little eerie that Harriet preferred to always be somewhere dark, somewhere just out of sight. Especially since she liked to hide in the shadows behind her master. |

Tera sighed nd shook her head when Harriet protested. She continued lightly eating until she finished then stood, looking around for Harriet, spotting her in the shadows behind her chair. "Why do you choose to stand in the dark always?" She motioned to come out of the shadows, "You don't have to, I will let you stand next to me, or sit down with me and talk. I enjoy the social interaction." |

"I do not wish to be a bother to you. Surely you don't wish to see me when I am not needed, master?" was Harriet's meek explanation. It seemed she was also under the impression that she was better not heard or seen. Taking her seat again, Harriet stared awkwardly down into her lap. It was okay to wait in the darkness, but here her master could see her being idle... |

Tera smiled and sat down, "You're not a bother, and I don't mind seeing you when you're not needed." She reached out and lifted Harriets chin up some, "I know Im different from granddad was, so its going to take a bit to get used to, but I just want you to be happy also." |

Harriet nodded awkwardly. Her new master had all sorts of different likes, dislikes, expectations, wants and needs. It would take her an age to figure out this woman! She had an idea that could let her discover more about her. "Would master Tera like a bath after lunch? My previous master always enjoyed being washed. He also liked to talk in the bath, which is what you like, right? You enjoy talking, master?" Harriet offered. She was hoping this would be alright. The poor girl had no idea what the outside world was like, except for what she had heard from her masters and seen in the tiny village. |

Tera gave a light cough as Harriet basically asked if Tera wanted Harriet to wash her. It was very different and quite unexpected. Harriet probably didn't see anything sexual about it, and chances are her grandfather wouldn't have been able to wash himself al that well. But it was different for her, she didn't need help bathing, and to reveal herself to Harriet... "I…don't really need help washing." She stated with a light smile, "I mean, the offer was nice and all…" A sigh came from Tera as she stood and gave a light hug to Harriet, "Maybe when we get to know each other more." She hoped she didn't upset the maid by telling her no, but she just didn't really feel all that comfortable revealing herself to her. |

Harriet was confused as to why she'd turn down something nice like this, but it didn't bother her terribly. She would have to find some other way to learn her master's likes and dislikes! Harriet had been raised with a very strict code of manners, so direct questions about the master were usually off limits. "If you do change your mind, please do not hesitate to ask your humble servant." she nodded her head, unable to bow in her chair. |
