**Two Weeks Ago**

Kyari idly cleaned off the countertop as she stared out the large glass windows of Amai Yume(sweet dreams), the cafe she and her friends worked at. It was empty again, like it had been for the last month or two. There wasn't a customer for miles that wanted to eat there anymore, it almost made her feel like she was loosing a special part of her. It all started when this mega cafe opened down the street, she couldn't remember the name of it but apparently it had everything; great food, wicked service, even had a karaoke night! She pondered what she and her friends could do to boost their appeal as she wiped over the register but nothing came to mind.

She was brought from her thoughts when she heard the sound of chairs moving across the floor and for a moment she thought it was a customer and was a bit excited....but then she noticed it was just two of her friends and coworkers.

"You know! I've been inside of that new place..and you want to know what they have that we don't?!" Said one of them, Kyari and the other one just shook their heads, "Super hot guys! I mean..they are seriously out of this world! That's it! Chieko is always talking about that...whatever it is she's building...I think it's time we used it! To bring super amazing hot guys here. And make them work for us!"

**Two Weeks Later**

It was just a joke! Kyari would have never guessed that her friend's idea would ever work but here she was taking the order of a group of preteen girls. Unfortunately, most of the customers now were girls between the ages of 13-18 but they were customers and well paying ones also! Which is a plus considering the owner is on the brink of loosing the cafe thanks to those months without any business.

They probably paid more to look at the new waiters the girls had forc-- hired to work at the cafe than to eat. Kyari couldn't really blame them, the three were....well she really couldn't think of words to describe them without blushing...but the amazing thing was that Kagami's machine had worked and they were actually able to go to different worlds and kidn-- ask them to come work with them.

(oki..that should be a good set up for anyone to jump in. I sort of just winged it with the two friends bit~)

Ophelia's long black plait was dangerously close to the custard tarts as she leaned over to reach for somebody's order.

"It's very busy today, isn't it Kyari?" Ophelia turned. As she did so, her elbow knocked a cake onto the floor. It splattered over the tiles, the cream oozing all over the floor.

"Whoops," she muttered and bent down to pick it up, quickly scrubbing with her top the icing which had glued itself down. Standing quickly back up she turned to the next customer.

Another young girl bounded up the counter.
"You've got some pretty tasty guys in here," she said, her eyes darting around the room taking in the men.

"I guess," Ophelia said, shrugging. She wasn't denying they weren't hot, she just wasn't interested in them. Yet.

"Anyway I'll have your least fattiest cake please," She said, smiling a little, "I'm on a diet." Ophelia stifled a laugh. Coming into a cake shop and saying you're on a diet is a joke.

"Well," Ophelia decided to help out the young girl, "the fruit cakes pretty good, I mean, it contains...fruit."

She cut a sliver of the cake, wrapped it up for the girl and put it into a paper bag. Once the girl had paid and left, Ophelia laughed so hard she nearly knocked over a whole counter of cakes. The fruit cake, despite the fruit in it, wasn't all that healthy. It had a marshmallow center, and an oozing fudge topping. Unfortunately the laughter took hold of her and she flung her arms about in all directions, accidently hitting another of the cream cakes to the floor.

Today was not her lucky day with the whole knocking-cakes-over fiasco.

Amelia was smiling, as she had been for the past hours. She gave one of the customers, a young girl who was openly ogling at one of their new 'workers'. But then again, most of their customers were doing the exact same thing.

A girl with her boyfriend, however she got him to come here with her was a mystery in and of itself, called her over. "Can i have a raspberry tart please?"
"two" the boyfriend cut in, wrapping an arm around his girlfriend.

"of course" Amelia responded, smiling, and ran back, soon providing them with their tarts. After that, as it seemed everyone was engrossed with their food and their ogling, she saw Ophelia behind the counter.

She ran to her friend, and quietly squealed-a skill she had perfected over the years- "It's working, It's working!"

She jumped up and down a few times happily, then busied herself cleaning up the tarts that had been drawn to the ground by Ophelia's power of...ground....tart...magnetism? Amelia hadn't thought of a good name for it yet, but she would, oh, she would.

Her blue eyes shone happily, she shook her head, causing her brown hair to shake. "I really can't believe it, it's WORKING" She had come up with that idea as a kind of joke...Chieko, though, had the means to make it a reality.

Amelia, of course, had jumped at the plan. Jumped, spun, danced, and dyed her cat blue, in celebration. That, of course, was why her hair had been brown this week, instead of the dark blue she had hoped for. The cat got the blue hair, and SHE had to keep her brown hair. Lucky little feline.

Lucas smiled at another customer. Not the way he had expected to spend his year off while his school went through 'renovations', but what could he do?

A while ago, he had just been wandering around a city, and next thing he knew, a huge portal had opened up in front of him. He had been about to go through, being curious, but then a girl came out of it. The girl had basically grabbed him, and dragged him through.

Of course, Lucas had been surprised to find himself in a cafe. In a different world, considering how the others there reacted to his ears and tail. He had retracted them, and one of the girls had explained why he was here.

Well...he did have a lot of free time on his hands, so he had decided to help out. He couldn't just leave them, now could he? That, and it could be fun, make new friends and all that.

As he came back from his reverie just in time to give a young girl the check, and collect her money, he spotted Amelia squealing. Quietly, of course, but his ears were pretty good.

He smiled a little, seeing that Ophelia had just stopped a laughing fit. He had heard what the girl had said...and found it incredibly sad. He didn't know much about girls...but wasn't cake supposed to be a no-no when they were on a diet?

His older sisters had whined to him enough about 'no cake for me, i'm on a diet' for him to understand that. He wondered how that had worked out in that girl's mind.

As he zoned out again, he nearly collided with a customer. For a second, his eyes widened, before he turned around quickly, basically spinning around whoever he had been about to crash with.

"sorry" he said, "are you okay?" The girl nodded, dumbfounded, as he put the money he had collected into the...money area.

A sigh escaped his lips, as he looked back out upon the girls ogling at him and the other guy currently working here. He didn't know about the other guy, but all the attention was making him a little jumpy. It was like he could feel every eye on him when he took a step.

Taking a deep breath, he grabbed a tray, and walked over to a customer just entering the building. "hello, welcome to Amai Yume. There's a spare seat over there, if you want it"

Yuki's smile was stuck to her face.

All around her were customers digging into all of their delectable treats. A little giggle erupted from Yuki as she crossed the room towards Ophelia at the counter.

"Looks like all these cute guys are helping business!, Yay Us! Well, when I say yay us, I mean Chieko but we did help carry out her master, genius, amazing plan. You know what I mean."
Yuki's usual bubbly nature overflowed as her excitement shone through her little ramble.

A rather round and chubby girl walked in and went straight up to the counter,
"I want your biggest slice of chocolate cake." Yuki suppressed her giggle and as she put the cake slice in the position for the second cut, the girl shrieked,

"No, no ,no. What part of a big slice don't you understand? Bigger than that!"

"Whoopsie, how large you would like your slice?"

The girl pointed to the first incision that was made. This time Yuki could not suppress her laughter.

"You want the whole cake?!" Yuki continued giggling, right until she saw the girl's face.

The scowl across her face was clear,

"No, I want your biggest slice."

This time around, Yuki decided to keep her mouth shut, maybe chattiness was not the best trait to have sometimes! So Yuki heaved out the cake, and passed it to the girl who paid the correct amount and waddled over to retrieve it.

"Would you like one of our lovely guys to carry it for you?"
The girl's face instantly transformed from a scowl to a very radiant smile.

Andrion was currently in the back, helping...well...technically he was doing nothing more than flirty with the female bakers but in his mind it was helping, not like he couldn't actually help it was just that he didn't want to! Aside from that, the stupid hood he had over his ears was bothering him to no end and everytime they twitched, he felt like ripping the forsaken thing off. He looked back once at his tail that swung freely...apparently if anyone asked, he was suppose to lie and say he had some sort of 'furry fetish'. Whatever the hell that was.

"Andrion, could you be useful and take that cart of cakes to the front for display?" One of the older male bakers asked with a light scowl as he rolled his eyes. Andrion returned the sentiments with a slight growl before going over to the cart of cakes and rolling it out to the front. He mumbled to himself some before moving up next to the display.

"Pardon me ladies~" Andrion cooed as he moved through Kyari and Ophelia, apparently the later one had made another mess. He truly felt bad for her; she was much too cute to have such a tragic trait placed on her...then again he assumed there needed to be a balance. He shrugged some before busying himself with filling the display with the new cakes.

Aaron was currently hiding in the storage room, sitting on a large bag of flour. A light sigh escaped his lips as he looked around the semilit room, eventually he would have to get up and face another irritating day with irritating girls giggling and staring at him like he just stepped off an UFO. It was so irritating!

He didn't even remember how he had ended up here but according to the story of the other two, it was all pretty similiar. They had all been minding their own business and then a group of girls pretty much fell from the sky...and they were brought here. Honestly it all intrigued him, but he wasn't going to say anything until he got something out of the girls other than 'we're trying to save out cafe!'

He stood finally and stretched before exiting the storage room and walking into the 'World Of Irritation'. He stuffed his hands into his pockets and walked over behind the counter, he grabbed one of the rags, and then went over to start cleaning a table.

"Uh..!" Kyari blinked some as she fiddled with her apron and watched Aaron take a rag and go over to a table and start cleaning it, 'That's my job...'

Kuroda Ren could not suppress a grimace as he heard the words of the girl whose name was apparently Yuki. Would you like one of our lovely guys to carry it for you? Leaning against the wall, looking out on the cafe with a glare in his eyes that would turn a fierce, man eating lion into a whimpering kitty at so much as a glance, Kuroda heaved a breath--and could not stop himself from marveling yet again. The air here was just...so damn clean. He was used to wearing a clothe around his mouth and nose to keep from breathing in the deadly amalgamation smoke and industrial gases that was called air--at least, where he came from. In fact, he wasn't quite sure where he was, but wherever it was, it was a damn sight better than 'back home'. All the time he had been here, Kuroda had not seen a single soldier smash the door in and take all the food he wanted after making sure all windows were shattered, all tables and chairs smashed, and anyone who stood in the way...broken.

Truth be told, when Kuroda awoke here, his first thought was that he was dead and this was heaven. He had, after all, been carrying a package of supplies to a nearby neighbourhood that was being starved by the military. It was not unthinkable that he may have been discovered and shot after a lengthy torture session. To any average person here, this little town may not have seemed like much--but living in the slum of the most violent, most oppressive, most hateful dictatorship in a world of pain and misery meant that just about anything else was paradise.

And when these girls explained the reality of his situation to him, he was even more disturbed. He contemplated pushing them away and then going out on his own to find out what the hell was going on. That was when it struck him that he truly, really had no idea where he was and what he was doing here. This was a completely different place. A completely different world. It hit home that this was not a place Kuroda could navigate. This was a place where a person who spoke to you on the street was not a spy for the military, a place where someone who helped you with something did not intend to later kill you and take your belongings once they had gained your trust. This was a place where Kuroda, as much as he hated it, would need another person to help him.

In this case, those girls.

Kuroda looked over them with the eye of one adjusted to paying attention to minuscule details. He gathered their names to be: Yuki, the talkative one. Definitely not the one he got along with, given their base natures conflicted at every level; her being a total optimist and Kuroda being a die hard pessimist didn't help. Chieko, the intellectual. An interesting person, given her ability to create things Kuroda had never even envisioned (though to be fair, in this world, many such things existed, such as running water, working telephones, lights that worked...). Amelia, the 'madwoman' of the lot. Her excited and bubbly nature contrasted sharply with Kuroda, who just wanted some peace and quiet; their interests often...well, clashed. Ophelia, the...well, the clumsy as hell one. Kuroda had yet to see her hold something in her hands that did not end up in the air...or on the ground...or out the window...And finally Kyari, the quiet one. Probably the only one whose presence Kuroda did not mind, if only because she never really bothered him.

Ophelia was picking up the rest of the cake off the floor which has somehow mysteriously catapulted across near the doorway when she looked up right at the butt of Lucas. Ophelia diverted her eyes and tried very carefully to get up around him without knocking him over, and her again, as she did so. Unfortunately for her things always happen in three's and she landed with a satisfying thud on the floor.
"Ouch" She groaned and closed her eyes briefly for a moment.

Why do I always seem to fall over? It's really not fair sometimes... she thought to herself. She wanted to just say sat on the floor, but seeing another young girl grow impatient waiting for her to actually carry her cream cake over to her this time without dropping it on the floor, she forced herself to carefully get up and walk over to the table. She served the girl and then took her apron off. Time for a break.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sam was in the bathroom upstairs, talking to himself in the mirror. He was going to go downstairs and talk to her. Talk to Kyari, even if he only said hi. He looked himself squarely in the eyes, puffed himself up, and left the bathroom. He took the stairs carefully and passed Ophelia on route as she went upstairs for a break. He rounded the corner and grabbed her apron.

"I'll take over Ophelia" he said to anyone who was listening. He walked around the tables, picking up the dirty dishes and cups, desperately trying not to stare at Kyari. Trying, and failing miserably.

"Oh darn..." he muttered under his breath.

Amelia had soon ran off, mainly when she saw Yuki coming. She would rant with her later, so she gave her some time with Ophelia. She grabbed some drinks and delivered them to a table with a girl who looked like the only thing keeping her awake was the sight of the boys.

Here you go, a coffee. She leaned down and said, "extra caffeinated, looks like you need it"

The girl smiled gratefully, and nodded, taking a big gulp of the drink. Amelia placed some napkins on the table for her upcoming cake order, and ran over to the next table.

On the way, she spotted Aaron, cleaning tables. She was standing near Kyari, and heard the girl's mumbled protest. Amelia glared. The girls may have kidnapped these people, but that was no excuse for being mean. She tapped him on the shoulder, and whispered, "that's Kyari's job, you work taking cakes to the customers"

Amelia walked away, taking an order to yet another girl. This time, though, she kept an eye on Aaron. If Kyari didn't want to tell Aaron to back off, she would. Her mind ran ahead of her. Well, sprinted. Bolted. Took a turbo charged jet, and pictured her tying him down, covering him with flour, and then making him the 'Special of the Day'

She knew he'd LOVE that.
~~~~
THUD!
Lucas jumped, and turned, seeing Ophelia sitting on the ground, having obviously fallen again. He was just about to ask if she was okay, when she got up, and walked away. Same thing last couple of times he had seen her fall.
He sighed, and then got up from the crouching position he had just gotten into before Ophelia had left. He saw her serve a girl, and then take off her apron.
Before she could make it too far away, however, he rushed over. "are you okay?" Lucas asked, moving in front of her too look at her face.
Kuroda watched the going-ons of the cafe almost like an impartial observer. The other males who seemed to have suffered his fate as well were jumping like dogs to perform the girls' every little desire. He scoffed--delivering cakes. From freedom fighter and Convoy Runner to deliveryman. "They'll have you jumping through flaming hoops for their own entertainment soon enough," he grumbled under his breath, the scowl on his face refusing to disappear. He didn't know what this world was or how he got here, but he didn't like it. It was too quiet. Too peaceful.
But at least they provided some interest to Kuroda. Watching them was not entirely boring. Being raised in a place like the slums of misery gave--or rather forced one to have a quick, observant eye. And anyway they weren't asking him to deliver any of their bloody little cakes--not yet, anyway. Not like anyone wanted their cake delivered by a guy who looked like he would like nothing better than to destroy the rest of the world and be left alone. Not that he actually had that sort of mindset, but Kuroda couldn't help if his default expression was 'leave me the hell alone dammit'.
Aaron gave Amelia a blank stare before glaring at her. What the hell was she talking about? Who was Kyari anyway? Oh right...the one that barely speaks and the most tolerable. He scoffed some at Amelia's back as she walked away before going back to cleaning. Who was she to tell him what to do?! Back home he could probably have her arrested for just looking at him the wrong way, though he doubted he would really do that. He wasn't really mean and tense all the time...he just didn't understand what was going on!
The whole situation was confusing to him and he absolutely hated it! A group of girls appear out of no where and offer him cookie samples, he ends up in some basement in a cafe in a different world and goes from being one of the wealthiest teens of his world to...some waiter. Though, it isn't entirely bad...granted he missed being waited on hand and foot and buying useless things but...he never had to work for anything. Believe it or not, he was starting to feel independant. Back to being angry though, he hated being confused with a passion; the mere thought of not knowing what is going on around him made him irritable. Now, he knew the who, the where, the why, the when, and the what...it was the how that was making him lose his mind.
There was one other thing that was confusing him, but he would ignore that for now...or at least attempt to. He glared at Amelia again when he noticed she was watching him and then went to give the rag back to Kyari.
"Sorry..." He grumbled. Kyari just blushed and nodded some before taking the rag and going to clean the rest of the empty tables, going to check on some customers every now and then.
~~~

Andrion grinned some as he finished up with putting the cakes on display, he took the cart back to the kitchen before coming back to stand behind the counter. He leaned on it boredly and blinked some as one of the female customers pointed at him.

"THAT ONE! I want that one!" She said with a wide smile. Andrion blinked more as he leaned up and looked behind him, there weren't any cakes or anything...so what the hell was she talking about? Humans were indeed interesting, on his world, humans were extinct so he only learned about them from school and trips to old musuems. He would most likely miss them when he went back....the females anyway. Speaking of, he moved closer to Yuki and whispered to her,

"Do you know what she is talking about it?" He asked into her ear as his own twitched under his hood.

"She wants you to carry her cake for her. So, move that gorgeous body of yours and help her...Please."

Yuki's flirtatious smile lingered as she turned and headed over the back room where she began checking stock lists etc. and wondering what else there was to do. With all these gorgeous guys around, she just didn't know what to do with herself.

Then, after a great deal of thought, Yuki decided to sit behind the counter and watch the chubby girl gawp at Andrion like he was an even larger cake than the one she bought. Not that she disagreed, Andrion was gorgeous . Absolutely no doubt about it, but so where the other guys as well.

Eventually, Yuki grew tired of watching and decided to watch all the guys and think about how brilliant it was to have so many guys in one room, and she could order them around as well! Yuki thought that was even better than just having hot guys in one room. So, Yuki just sat there and grinned.

Ophelia blinked and gawked as Lucas who was asking if she was okay. Ophelia's eyes stared deeply in to his as she mused over what to say. Chewing her lip she waited a moment before answering.
"Yeah I'm okay I guess," she smiled, blushing a little and deciding whether to move away or not.
"Erm, I guess you could take a break now Lucas, you've been working real hard, I've been watching. I mean...err...not like stalkerish or anything..."She trailed off, looking down and turning lobster red. she bit her lip again anxiously and prepared herself for scurrying off...

-------------------

Sam couldn't help himself anymore. So, confidently, he walked over to Kyari and smiled at her.
"Need any help?" he asked, flashing her a charming smile. He gestured to Ophelia's apron.
"I'll go help behind the counter shall I for a bit?" he said, trying to coax a few small words for her lips. He knew his eyes were watching her lips, and with a lot of effort he pulled them up to her blue eyes. 'They're so beautiful, just the like sea' he thought to himself.

Kuroda eventually grew tired of watching them go about their business. He would like nothing more than to find the one responsible for all this--this 'Chieko' woman. And he would like nothing more then than to...demand that she get him the hell out of this world and back in the one where he belonged. But the girl named Chieko, as would be his luck, was nowhere to be seen here. Excellent, that's just right perfect. Just my goddamn luck, all I want is to get the hell out of here and get back to my own bloody world.

Meh, y'know what, I'm not about to sit here all day. I'm outta here. Kuroda pushed himself from the wall, walking towards the quiet one since she was the least likely to stop him or protest (and since one of those other happy little workers was trying to chat her up). "'ey," his harsh voice drifted in her direction--or rather snapped through the air like an arrow. "I don't think I'm needed here, so I'll just get a move on, eh?" With those words he began to move towards the door.

Amelia smiled when she heard Aaron mumble a 'sorry'. Since he had first gotten here, he had had a traffic-light sized stick up his butt. She hoped that, eventually, that would clear up. Otherwise she would go through with that 'Special of the Day' idea.

She was still, in fact, thinking about other details on that plan. Such as price, and what to do if more than one person ordered. Not to mention how to stuff him with fruit...

Amelia smiled, despite having heard that scoff. She grabbed a notepad off of the counter, for a group of young ladies that had made it clear that they were ready to order.

"Hello, what would you like to order?" she asked, smiling. "that one" one of the girls said, pointing to Aaron. Amelia giggled, finding the irony quite funny indeed, considering what she had just been thinking.

"okay, seriously, what do you want"

"we'll all have a slice of chocolate cheesecake, please"

"coming right up" Amelia said, running back, to grab 5 slices of chocolate cheesecake. There were exactly 5 slices left. She grabbed them, placed them on plates, and put the plates on a larger platter to carry them all.

As she happily, and quickly, headed back to the table with the girls sitting there, she slipped. A yelp of surprise escaped her lips, and time seemed to slow down as her head headed toward the ground. 'great' she thought, 'now the bakers will need to make more chocolate cheesecake'
~~~~~~
Lucas saw Ophelia blush, and smiled hesitantly. She really was sweet. When she said that he could take a break. "I didn't think of you doing anything stalker-ish until you mentioned it" he joked.
In a momentary pause in the conversation, Lucas's thoughts trailed off. 'she really is beautiful. Her hair looks so soft...'
As his brain caught up with his thought process, he blinked, cutting off that train of thought right there. 'no, she works with you, Lucas. When their cafe is out of the woods, they'll probably send you and the others back...but doesn't that mean you should hang out with her while you can?'
It soon became apparent that thinking this through was only making it worse, so he said something to break the silence. "so...what do you usually do when your on break?" He asked.
Lucas had come to the conclusion that he would stop over-thinking things, and just appreciate the beauty...no, the sweetness, yes, the sweetness of Ophelia until it was time to leave.
Ophelia smiled brightly at Lucas, looking into his eyes as she answered.
"I go to my special hidden spot, want me to show you?" She blushed looking to the ground. "I mean, if you want me to," she finished. Without thinking she grabbed his hand and started dragging him along, past the storeroom and out the back door. She paused for a moment.
"Close your eyes, so the location's a secret," she murmured, softly stroking the back of his hand while she waited.
(sorry guys! i was in the middle of posting when my pc cut off....i was highly pissed off lol)
Andrion raised his eyebrow some but smiled nevertheless, "Sure thing." He said in his usual flirty voice as he looked to the girl. She smiled happliy and clapped her hands together before heading over to a table. Andrion just grinned more as he grabbed the plate with her cake on it and took it over to her. He bowed some before turning around and gave out a yelp of surprise when the girl grabbed and pulled his tail. He looked back with a light twitch to see her winking and blowing a kiss at him, usually he would flirt back mindlessly but his tail was a very...'sensitive' spot for him and...well someone grabbing it just didn't settle well with him.
His left eye twitched a bit as he pulled his tail away from her and wrapped it securely around his body, the girl just giggled and commented on how cute he was and how he reminded her of her puppy or something, Andrion really wasn't listening, too bust mumbling and walking away. He pushed the cart he had earlier back to the kitchen before returning back to the counter, "I am not serving anymore cakes.." he mumbled to himself.
~~~

"Umm...I-I-I-I..." Kyari blinked repeatedly up at Samuel before bringing her rag up and holding it in both hands, using it as a shield as her face became a dark red. Why did she always have to get like this?! She was more than certain that she was going through some sort of cardiac arrest, the fit lasted a minute or two and she gulped slightly as she looked at him, "T-that sounds like a good idea..I-I think there are some tables that need assistance." It was then that she noticed Kuroda and blinked some before moving around Samuel and over to him.

"I..um...I don't think that is a good idea." She said in her soft voice, blinking some as she brought her rag up to her face again, "More and more customers are coming in...and we could really use...the um..help." She looked around slightly hoping that someone else may try and stop him from leaving...after all...it's not like she was intimidating or anything.

~~~~
Aaron's eye twitched as he looked down at the giggling table of girls in front of him. Every five seconds they would look from the menu to him and go into a giggling fit. He was five seconds away from flipping over the table...even if it was...nailed to the floor. He didn't care!
"Look!" He yelled some as he slammed his hands on the table and leaned close to the the two girls on the end, "Do you want chocolate cake? Do you want coffee? Perhaps a coffee cake?! Is it REALLY that difficult to order?!" He glared sharp, poisonous daggers at all of them which just caused them to blush and giggle more.
'Why do I bother?!' He thought as he rolled his eyes, it was then, from the corner of his eye, that he saw Amelia slip. Granted, it would have brought him great joy to just watch her fall flat on her face...so why was it that he practically rushed over to catch her? He blinked down at her a bit as one arm was wrapped around her and the other held onto the tray she almost dropped. He must have stared at her for a good five minutes before helping her stand up straight and then setting the cakes on the table they belonged to; he went back over to her and held out the tray to her, "Try to be more careful."
Kuroda had already turn to leave when the girl he had confronted seemed to protest--in fact, he could barely hear it, so quietly did she speak. He turned around, walking forward towards her, even though he wasn't quite sure what to do or say when he stood before her. The young man stood a good three or four inches taller than Kyari, and, what with his hardened face, supremely annoyed expression, and aggressive stance, he certainly projected a far more menacing air than the quiet, overtly shy girl did.
But he almost felt pity when he saw the state of the girl. It seemed strangely wicked and cruel to take advantage of the girl's utter helplessness--the way she tried to hide her face with the rag, the way she glanced around as if hoping someone would hopefully appear out of nowhere to stop Kuroda from leaving themselves. If anything, it only made him more irritated; his eye even twitched from his irate manner. I choose now to suddenly start feeling bad for weaklings? He angrily reprimanded himself.
But, as if it weren't even Kuroda himself speaking, he felt words, hoarse from lack of use, leaving his pale lips. "Fine. But only so that I can speak to this...Chieko lady about getting me back to my world. Don't get any ideas. I sure as hell don't plan on stayin' in this bloody little paradise too long..."
Sam smiled, looking anxiously over at her whilst she dealt with Kuroda. Man that guy was a jerk. And if he spoke to her in that tone again, he sure was going to kick his ass. He went behind the counter, waiting to serve some lovely ladies. Flashing a charming smile he watched as one girl walked over from the group of friends she was sitting with.
"We'd like three hot chocolate fudge cakes, and one lemon sponge." she smiled coldly, flicking her eyes around. That's strange, Sam thought as he got the cakes, that wasn't the usual reaction he received from the customers. Curiously he studied the girl, prodding her with his eyes. Shrugging he passed her the cakes and let her pay. As she left to walk away, Sam heard her mumble something. "Cakes where nicer at that other place, the men too..." she was out of earshot. Confused Sam stared into space for a moment.
Another shop?
Yuki nearly fell off of her stool behind the counter when she heard that girl's comment. Another shop! There can't be another shop, if there is another shop then they will have to pick their game up. But they have already! Yuki chewed on her lip nervously and after seeing Sam's face she saw that he had heard as well. The stool wobbled precariously and she decided it was probably a better idea to get off of it and stand up.
"Did you hear that Sam?! I can't believe there's another shop, with hotter guys too! I mean you are really hot, how on earth do they compete with you?!"
Yuki was too freaked out to flash Sam her most flirtatious smile, she headed straight over to Chieko,
"There's another shop with hotter guys and better cakes, what are we going to do? Our guys are really hot and I am head over heels in love with out cakes, we're doomed. I know it, we're doomed! DOOMED!"
'Only a few more seconds, and she would have been flat on her back. Only a few more...why did i stop falling?'
As her thoughts of how long it would take her to hit the ground slowed to a stop, she opened her eyes, and saw a familiar face looking down at her. A familiar face she had been thinking about making the daily special a few moments ago. The face whose the arm that was holding her up was attached to.
The moment froze, as her brain went into lock-down. She didn't know how long she was there, but she was soon on her feet again. A sliver of disappointment ran through her stomach that they couldn't have stayed like that just a little bit longer.
Once Amelia's mind left lock-down, she blinked and gave herself a minute, letting her mind take it's time to catch up. Okay. Number 1, she wasn't on either her face or her butt with a mess of chocolate cheesecake surrounding, and possibly covering, her. Number 2, she had been caught, and so had the cakes. And, the one that caused little electric sparks to dance around in her mind, number 3, Aaron was the one who had done the previously mentioned things.
When he told her to try and be more careful, her synapses had finally finished giving her brain a jump-start. "sure" she said, "thanks"
After one more moment she took the tray and said, with a small smile, "by the way, you've just gotten out of becoming the daily special"
With that, she turned and put the tray back down. For some reason, Amelia could still feel the place where his arm had been touching her. A small shiver ran up her spine, and she tried to block that out as she hurried herself to get back to work, and stifle the small smile that was still lingering on her lips.
Lucas smiled at her and said, "it sounds great" He followed her, or was dragged by her, past the store rooms and out what he could only assume was the back door.
He was so engrossed in the fact that Ophelia was holding his hand-maybe he did have a small crush on her- so that it took him a moment to stop looking at her beautiful face, and close his eyes.
When she brushed the back on his hand, Lucas felt a, probably extremely goofy, smile to creep up on his face. Okay, maybe he had a large crush on her. A very, VERY large crush on her.
Lucas stifled the worst of the goofiness of his grin, and continued to let himself be led to Ophelia's secret break place.
Ophelia smiled shyly as she watched him grin. She spun quickly around so she couldn't be distracted, and attempted, as carefully as she could (a near impossible task) to drag Lucas across the backyard out near the tree. Behind it was a small wooden bench made out of logs she'd found. Finally arriving at the destination she stopped suddenly, letting go of Lucas's hand.
"Open your eyes," she said, biting on her lip. Would he find this place as beautiful as she did? The light was hazy, golden and streaming through the tree's. From the bench you could clearly see the chaos of the cafe, without hearing a single word. Birds sang brightly and loudly. It was truly beautiful.
Ophelia tried to sit down carefully, but failed miserably. She collapsed near the bench, which was a triumph in itself, but unfortunately landed in the mud. Great, now her jeans would be filthy. She sighed, heaving herself carefully onto the bench, worried that Lucas had just seen the whole incident. She glanced up, wincing.
-----
Sam glanced over at Yuki, a startled expression in his face. She was already gone in a cloud of dust. Sam's forehead crinkled as he tried to make sense of what the girl had said, and what Yuki had meant. Okay so he knew he was here to make the cafe better, but why? He assumed that this other shop was there competition. And hotter guys? Is that why he was here, because he was supposedly good looking? Sam chuckled silently to himself, his pride swelling up. Still, he could see and hear the concern radiating from Yuki.
'Hmm,' he thought to himself, leaning casually on the counter, 'if they need help, then...maybe I could help?' he summed up. Sam was unsure though. Did he really want to get involved with these girls problems. One glance at Kyari confirmed his answer. Yes he did want to help.
First mission? Spy on the other shop. This was going to be fun....
Chieko rolled her eyes slightly as she lightly knocked Yuki on the head with the monkey wrench she was carrying, why was she carrying it? Well obviously something needs fixing! She pushed her glasses up on her face slightly before looking to Yuki, "Yuki, we already know about the other shop! That's why they are here, remember?" She said the last part in a hushed tone as she nodded in the random direction of one of the boys, "Don't worry...Amelia and I have it alllll figured out! And I am sure if everyone pitches in, play their part..we will be on top again!" She twirled the monkey wrench in her hand before throwing it up and catching it. She then smiled to her friend before disappearing over to Kuroda, who had been trying to escape.
"Alright, mister, you have been looking for me all morning correct?" Chieko asked as she looked up at him. Menacing beast of a man really...she smiled to Kyari some, "Don't worry..I'll take it from here!" She folded her arms over her chest as she watched Kyari scatter off before looking back up at Kuroda, "Alright, so what do you want?"
Kyari smiled some when Chieko came over and with out a second thought she scurried off to rid the world of dirt. She made herself busy with one table and then turned around to go to another, unfortunately she turned and walked into someone. She immediately went into an apologizing fit and bowed fifity million times before the person grabbed ahold of her and placed a finger to her lips. It was then she realized the person she had bumped into was a male...and he was holding her awfully close. She looked up slowly with slightly widened eyes, her blue orbs meeting with gleaming chocolate brown ones, "Calm down, babe." He said in a smooth voice and Kyari could feel her face heat up. She moved away from him and looked around some before bringing her rag up to her face, what was it the third time in the last ten minutes??
"I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I..." The 'Is' came a bit faster this time around and her body was definitely a statue. It was when these sort of fits struck that she wondered when she'd be stuck like this forever, the male laughed some before kissing her forehead lightly; if the closeness didn't stop her heart...that definitely did.
"You're kind of cute when you stutter like that." He said with a light grin before letting out a grimace and rubbing the back of his head as a female hit him.
"We didn't come here to flirt with the enemy!" She said in a cold voice as she glared at him before glaring at the tray-holding statue known as Kyari, she clicked her teeth some before looking around, "So this is Amai Yume...psft! Give it another two weeks and it'll be an abandoned building. Nothing can beat our place! Though nice try with the new hired help! Let's go Daisuke!" She said before grabbing the male by his ear and dragging him out, even in his embarassing state he still managed to blow a kiss to Kyari and whisper 'call me'.
Andrion blinked as he watched the scene before raising an eyebrow, he glanced over at Aaron, who was even more confused...and in turn even more pissed off. What did she mean when she said no one could beat their place and calling him the hired help as if he was some sort of...of...well damn...he pretty much was the hired help. "Pst...I highly doubt anyone on this planet is hotter than me..." He shook his head some before chuckling slightly, no wonder humans go extinct.
Amelia turned, having heard what just happened. That other shop was trying to upstage them...AGAIN. This was unbelievable, couldn't that other stupid shop just leave then ALONE.
One of Amelia's eyes twitched, just a little, as rage overflowed in her. She stomped over to where Aaron was. "can you BELIEVE them? This is why we brought you guys here. Not only will the cafe go out of business, but it'll be because of those stupid, pompous, A-"
By this point, Amelia was seeing red. If she had looked in a mirror, her head would have been a nice vivid crimson, making her feel better about her lack of hair-dye. However, since there was no mirror handy at that moment, Amelia just tried to calm down so she didn't go completely berserk.
"I mean, we went through the trouble to get guys...from other WORLDS, and they can't respect that enough to leave us alone? They have their really successful cafe, can't they stand a bit of competition?"
She turned and gestured toward the cafe, "I mean, i bet with a few renovations, we could turn this into a really cool place. They're lucky we don't, in fact. Not only are you guys BETTER than whatever losers they have working there, you guys are overall nicer too! AAAAND, they don't flirt with the enemy like that guy! The nerve, coming in here and flirting with Kyari. They probably know she's shy, i mean, how dare they do that to her!"
Amelia's ranting has now come to include dramatic gestures, and pacing around. Not to mention her hands had now begun trying to seem to kill the air as they whirred around as she ranted.
"They have no right to do that" she said, well, more scream-muttered. Meaning muttered at what would be a normal volume while talking. "i should go over there, and hang them upside-down by their ankles! NO! better yet, i'd hang them upside down by their ankles over here! Then everyone would know just who had done it, and it would prove that we're overall better than they are! After that, we could make them watch as we destroyed their stupid cafe, and then we'd dress them up as dinosaurs and make them dance for our customers..." by this point, she was really more talking to herself than paying any attention to Aaron.
~~~~~~
At Ophelia's go-ahead, Lucas opened his eyes. "wow" he said, looking around. Hazy light streaming through the leaves, to leave dappled shadows on the ground and around the bench. He heard birdsong, and as he turned, he saw the Cafe. After another moment, he realized that, even though he could see everything that was going on inside, he couldn't hear a word.

He turned back, to see her heave herself onto the bench. Lucas was about to ask what happened...until he saw an imprint in some mud. Putting 2 and 2 together he asked, "are you okay?"

He sat down next to her, angling himself to he could look at her face while she answered. Okay...he had a crush on her. Denying it didn't get him anywhere...

So, instead, he just hoped that he wouldn't be sent home anytime soon.

Ophelia blushed crimson and lowered her head.
"You noticed the bum shape patch in the mud huh?" She said, smiling a little, but still looking down with slight embarrassment. looking up from under her eyelashes she shyly looked at Lucas. Her eyes flitted over his body, his face, lastly reaching his eyes. Her heart pounded in her chest, and she hoped he couldn't hear it. "So, I take it you like it here? And when I say here I mean, as in the cafe, this place...world...thing..."She trailed off, biting her lips anxiously. Was it the wrong question to ask? She waited patiently for his answer...

Sam had stood back and watched the entire scene before he opened the door and silently slid out. He wanted to make sure he
a) wouldn't be seen and
b) was making the right choice.
The latter he was still unsure about, but ignored his nagging mind. Glancing around the street he casually strolled. He saw the jerk who was hitting Kyari and tried, as quietly as he could, to follow them. They crossed the street and went down another hundred yards or so, and then he saw it. The cafe was HUGE. The building was painted a creamy white with gold trimmings. The sign was inviting, alluring, promising delicious cakes and coffee. Sam entered, his mouth hanging wide open. The inside interior was just as stunning as the outside. The chairs were all painted white with large golden bows tied to their backs. Taking a seat in a hidden corner, he watched the customers.
Oh boy.

Kuroda watched as at last the girl named Chieko made her appearance, walking in and beating her friend around the head with a monkey wrench (okay, so it was more like tapping her on the head, big difference). She spoke in hushed tones with the girl (Yuki was apparently her name), occasionally casting furtive glances back towards the other guys around them, who seemed to simply be going about whatever the girls ordered them to do.

Well, Kuroda was not about to let himself be shanghaied out to some alternate dimension...alternate world....whatever it was. He wasn't about to let some girl tear him from his world and then have him work in her coffee shop like some sort of third rate servant.

"Yeah, I've been looking for you all morning," Kuroda kept his obsidian-like eyes right on Chieko's. "What do I want? I want to get back to my own world. I was delivering an extremely important package of aid to a family in Vogel..." It struck Kuroda that Chieko would not know that Vogel was one of the most destitute, dangerous cities in the nation. "Five little kids, single mother, father'd been killed by the military...if that family starves it'll be because I couldn't get that package to them." Even as he spoke of it the blood boiled in Kuroda. Being a Runner wasn't a job for those who wanted money or glory. It was hard, it was dangerous, it was dirty, you didn't get paid for it, and if you didn't do it right you could be responsible for the deaths of women and children.

What reason was there to do it? Kuroda did it because there could be no greater reward, no amount of money more satisfying than to save the life of a starving family. And now here he was, working at a coffee shop.
