Kokoro wandered aimlessly on the crowded streets of The City. Some people were giving her dirty looks, while others were shaking their heads sympathetically. She clenched her fist in anger. 'Stupid people. Thinking they're all high and mighty because they have a normal life.' Kokoro thought angrily. Kokoro wants to talk to one of the other outcasts...at least they understand her. Perhaps they were the only people Kokoro treated kindly. Everyone else? Not worth her time or manners. Then she heard some whispers from a group of teens,"Isn't that the daughter of the Seishin family?" "Yeah, she is. I heard that she's a total bitch." "Seriously?" "Well, she sure looks like it."

Kokoro glared at the teens and said,"Well if I'm a bitch, then you guys must be the devil's offsprings. Screw off and do something productive in your crappy lives." The teens rolled their eyes and walked away. Kokoro hated them and wanted to squeeze the life out of them right on the street, but people will see...and her status will drop from "Hacker" to "Murderer". She shook her head in disgust and continued walking.

Alena sat on the mat in the den of the small apartment she and her brother shared. The lights were off, and only candles provided any light to the room at all. Incense burned in the corner, adding small drifts of smoke to the air around her as she sat there, perfectly center to all four walls. This was her quiet time... the time when she found her center and balanced the world around her so that all was as it should be.

Her eyes were closed, and behind her lids she found herself envisioning a clearing, with a calming, babbling brook flowing through it. The place was full of life... life that was there, but still quiet. Life that was the opposite of the minds around her on a day to day basis. Her hair was down, the long pale locks falling gracefully around her as she sat in lotus position and let her mind drift away on that little brook, making it's way through a forest full of life and quiet.

Her brother had been at work for sometime, and she knew instinctively that Riley was asleep in the living room, passed out on the couch. He got so very little rest most nights, so when he was able to pass out(which only seemed to be when he was there with her), she let him unless there was something pressing to attend to. More than once she'd considered asking her brother, Derek, to let Riley live with them, but she knew her best friend's pride wouldn't allow for it. Besides... he practically did live with them already, not much would change.

She stayed in that meditative trance for as long as she could, and only came out of it when she felt Riley stirring. His mind was swimming up from the deep, dark, inky black sea of sleep, and she felt it's call like it was a part of her. And in many ways, it was. She spent so much time near him that she could feel him and knew him without having to truly read his thoughts. Her eyes opened slowly and she smiled, taking a deep breath and letting it out, thanking the spirits for all she had one more time.

After her parents had been taken from her, she was certain her life was over... but she was blessed with an amazing man for a brother, and now she had a home she loved and a best friend who, despite being her opposite, she cherished and loved dearly as if he were her brother himself. Unfolding her legs, she stood slowly and bowed to all four corners of the room before rolling up her mat and tucking it away in to a corner. She blew the candles out and put out the incense before moving toward her room, rummaging through the clothes there to find something more fitting for leaving the apartment in than her silk tai chi uniform.

She could feel his mind calling, pulling, it was stronger now, and activity was beginning to buzz through it instead of the low, steady humm of the pleasant dreams he'd been having. When she felt him finally wake and his eyes open, she called out from the bedroom, as she often did. "Welcome back to the land of the living, sleepy head."

Alexstrasza Cyen moved through the streets lightly sighing as she did so. She had woken up in this strange city some time ago. At first she guessed it was her...'family's' doing, up until she wasn't contacted for as long as she was here.
She hated the lack of contact; sure she could steal whatever she wanted and wasn't told to steal something she didn't. But it wasn't the fact she wasn't contacted, no it was the simple fact that not being contacted usually meant you pissed the family off, and that always resulted in death.

However over the time she had been in here she had met some interesting people, stolen from at least one of them, stolen a few items for her 'home' and has yet to kill anyone. Shes very proud of that last fact because her 'family' called for quite a few deaths while stealing.

She paused when she heard something, it sounded like a familiar voice. And it was.
Kokoro Seishin, one of the people she met, was scolding some other girls. Grinning Alex moved over and wrapped her arms around Kokoro's neck bringing one of her hands up like she was waving.
"Hey Koko." Her voice was sweet, then again it usually was when she didnt want to take anything from the person she was speaking to. "Did you want me to...'help' with them?"
Alex wasn't exactly scary, and was probably just as hated as Kokoro, especially to those she stole from. Cops can't do anything cause of the 'lack of evidence'. Though she had told her possible friends about her willingness to kill, shes shockingly open if she doesn't feel threatened.

Kokoro was suprised to see one of her outcast friends greet her. She let out an exasperated sigh and said,"It's okay, Alex. This city has always been filled with those kinds of people...I'm used to it." Secretly, she wished her friend could kill those blasted teenagers...but Kokoro would be the top suspect, seeing that all those other city people saw her insult the teens. "So, what's up? Up to anything interesting lately?" Kokoro asked with a big grin on her face.

I stared up at the ceiling. Black. I hadn't slept properly last night. Again. I got out of bed. White walls. Soulless house, for the one of the few at work without one. I got dressed. Brown T, black jeans. I looked in the mirror and waited.
"3, 2, 1. Good morning Sarah. How are you this morning? Ready for cheerleading practice?". Male, sarcastic.
I laughed. Of course I'd given it a personality. I shouldn't, but if I can't use my knowldge for entertainment, what good is it. The first AI mirror. Not really AI, but near enough. Anyone looking at it through "conventinal" scanners would believe it was AI.
"I'm wonderful thank you Mirror. Got me a schedule for today?".
Yes, I'd named it. Its able to think, therefore it has a name.
The printer spat out my day's work. Breakfast; Monitoring; Lunch; Research; Dinner; Social; Relax; Bed. Although it was lovely and entertaining, my job was my life. The same people everyday, day in, day out. And none of them even the slightest bit entertaining. I worked with the same 2 guys everyday. James and Rasheed. I'd never even spoken to anyone else apart from in memo's and the odd hello.
I scribbled a note on my schedule, before glancing at the mirror. No make-up, but why bother. Its not like anyone would notice if I bothered. J&R don't care, as they are too immersed in the work and each other. If both weren't happily married, I'd think they spent more than enough time together, if you catch my drift. But I think James said they were on leave for a few months. Hmmf. At least I might get to meet some new people. I turned back to the mirror and applied mascara. Then I turned and walked out of the door and towards work.

When I arrived at the plant my suspicions were correct. I logged onto my terminal and two e-mails were in my inbox. First, one from James and Rasheed, informing me they were taking their 2 months holiday. The second, from management, informing me I was being promoted and to await further contact. I archived both and set to work doing the same as I did everyday. If someone wanted to talk to me, then they could interrupted me. One of the blips on my screen interested me. I zoomed in on them and overheard their conversation.
"Hey Koko. Did you want me to...'help' with them?"
"It's okay, Alex. This city has always been filled with those kinds of people...I'm used to it."

It scared me that these.. things, were killing others of them. At least it showed that it was our soul that made decisions about murder for life. This girl didn't have to kill, but she did.
I sighed. Humans. What a waste of a planet. I looked at my screen and continued monitoring them.
Forever and a day is a long time. Especially if your a barnacle stuck to a rock.

Alex gradually backed off of Kokoro. "Okay. Your call." She stated with a smile before moving her hands behind her back and standing, smiling at her friend.

"Me? Not much. I've been hoping to find something to take but nothings all that...interesting." She sighed some, the city was boring, and try as she might she couldn't really find anything to steal except cars, and she didn't really like driving. Getting into them was easy, she could do that with her eyes closed, but driving she was always nervous.

She gave another smile, this one weaker than the previous, before saying, "You?" Praying her friend did something interesting lately.

Kokoro grinned and replied,"Hacking into informational websites and changing up the words so people get confused. Always fun to do when I'm bored. Nothing serious though. I haven't hacked into government files or anything." Government files were Kokoro's next target...what's even better is that they're confidential. Never revealed to the citizens of The City. Only government officials know what the contents are...and soon Kokoro will know too. "This city is pretty boring. It's always sunny and blue skies. What about some rain or snow for once?" Kokoro let out a sigh and continued,"But the citizens don't like those kinds of weather. It's too boring."

Alex laughed some as she heard that Kokoro had hacked and changed information. She thought about all the funny things you could change and people would probably believe it...people are very gullible.

A sigh came from her as the weather was brought up, "Yea I want to stand in the rain and grumble about being wet...can't do that if its sunny. Though it does bring up a good question...Where in the world is this city that we never see a gray cloud? Its like a boring paradise of boringness."
She gave another sigh before grinning, "So what did you have planned today, oh glorious hacker friend of mine?"

Kokoro grinned and teased,"Today? I might hack through The Door." Kokoro let out a laugh and said,"Unfortunately, The Door isn't a computer, so hacking won't be that easy...and it's heavily guarded too." She let out a satisfied sigh and asked curiously,"Ever wonder what's behind that thing? Maybe they have aliens, or confidential government projects, or even better yet...rain and snow." Obviously, the first and last one was a joke, but the second one was a huge possibility.

"Hack the Door?" Alex grinned, "Come now, its a door, its locked, I can get it open." Her boast was a highly probably circumstance, she has yet to find a lock she can't pick. "But those guards aren't exactly going to make that easy."
A sigh came from her before she looked toward the sky, "You hungry?" She wasn't exactly starving, but she could eat. "I'm broke, but thats an easy fix simply by walking down the street. So you know I can pay, well someone else will pay, I will just be borrowing their money."

"I haven't eaten lunch yet, so yeah...I'm pretty hungry." Kokoro replied as she patted her stomach lightly. A grin appeared on her face as she said,"Borrow huh? Usually when you borrow stuff, you don't give it back." Kokoro let out a small laugh before saying,"Oh well. As long as we get food to eat, I don't really care."

"Hey I would totally return the things I borrow...If I remembered who I took the stuff from." She laughed before guiding Kokoro down the street, trying to figure out where she wanted to eat.
"Okay that's a lie...I won't return anything. What I take is mine, and if anyone tries to take their stuff back I'll horribly maul them, after all under my law there is no 'take backs'...Except with friends of course...but that doesn't mean I'm gonna return what I took from you guys...as I don't remember what I took, and who I took it from." She laughed again as she finished that statement, cause it was true, she couldn't remember what she took or which of them she took it from.

As she walked down the street and talked she casually bumped into several people, seeming to simply not pay attention. "I'm feeling a little bit like eating some crabs, what about you?" She asked as she tossed a wallet back toward Kokoro, the wallet had a credit card in it along with almost a hundred fifty in cash, the cash would be best as chances are no place will believe that either of the two teenage girls are named Harold Johnson.

"Crabs? Mmm...sounds good." Kokoro replied thoughtfully as she caught the wallet. "Should we go eat in that fancy seafood restaurant down at the pier?" Kokoro suggested with a smile. She has never been in or even near that place. Mostly because Kokoro doesn't have a lot of money...and can't afford to eat a crab without putting her family in debt. Even though most citizens of The City would feel guilty about stealing, Kokoro and Alex would never understand the word "guilt" in their entire lives.

The low, gentle hum of the server farm just starting to turn itself back on was his first wakeup call for the early morning. Rows of multicolored LEDs lit up the darkness, and low-level lights lit their way beneath the glass floor. All of the machinery ran the city day in an day out, it was a beautiful system to say the least. Or at least the most beautiful that a corporation could buy. Black mirrors began to show their vision of the city streets and all the people who inhabited them. Their images reflected off of half-cracked blue eyes, a groggy groan erupted from Noah, it shouldn't be morning or at least it shouldn't have been yet. A trembling hand ran through his blond hair before supporting himself against one of the server racks that surrounded his mattress on the floor. Out of college and he still lived like he was in a fraternity, he stumbled around toward the front as the spa-like lights started to turn on one by one. He had to stop what he knew was coming. Unfortunately for the scientist it was far too late.

"Noah Lancaster, Noah Lancaster, wake up. Noah Lancaster, Noah Lancaster, wake up. Noah Lancaster, Noah Lancaster, wake up."

The monotonous voice began to blare from overhanging speakers in the facility, Noah cringed as the alarm began to grow louder and louder. The terminal approached, the touch keyboard shimmered an eerie green as Noah typed in the alarm override. "Jesus Christ, I'm up already!" At the exasperated shout of the man and a command enter, the alarm shut itself down. It was the start of another day at the office, a yawn escaped him as he rubbed the remaining bits of sleep from his eyes. When cornflower blue eyes opened again, the keyboard shifted to the task notes of the day. It was the standard list of procedures that he had done for what felt like an eternity, an odd item was placed on the agenda for today, 'New Arrival'. A soft touch brought the walls of text up, it was a simple directive, tell Sarah Smith that she was being transferred over to his division. A few taps of the hovering keyboard and he began his daily check up stroll trying to piece together the professional sounding way of 'Get your ass over here.'

Noah cleared his throat beginning the next part of his routine, "Miss Smith, it is both my duty and pleasure to inform you that your promotion entails the fact that you are also being transferred." He let those words sink in as he dictated his letter to the air. "No need to be alarmed, you're practically only moving your desk next to the Door." A soft chuckle came from him just low enough the microphones throughout the laboratory wouldn't pick it up, "So if you would at the earliest convenience come down for check in, and don't worry the security team will let you by with no problem, they know where you belong now. End message." What seemed like a standard light switch was flipped and spot lights all started to direct their light towards what seemed like a prison door, with five locking mechanisms firmly in place. It seemed hard to believe that the afterlife was truly held in by a single door. It was there that he would wait for Sarah Smith to report down to him, but he couldn't shake the feeling that he had forgotten something very important.

"Oh, pants." A quick slap to the forehead and Noah had remembered he was barely dressed, and he wasn't one to get charged for sexual harassment and have to go to work synergy classes. Just another goddamned day at the office.
"And here I stand, in the Eye of Providence."

A message came onto my screen. A guy was sitting on a chair, naked as far as I could see. "Oops, he sent a vid-memo rather than a e-memo" I blushed with embarrassment, and muted the screen video, choosing to watch the girls again. They were walking around, talking about crabs and robbery. I was half listing to the guy on the vid, and only caught the last few lines.
"No need to be alarmed, you're practically only moving your desk next to the Door." at this point, there was a slight noise, almost like static. In a normal office, it would've been undetectable, but no-one else was in yet. "So if you would at the earliest convenience come down for check in, and don't worry the security team will let you by with no problem, they know where you belong now. End message."
"Hmph, nice to know" I said. I was interested about these girls, so i tried to sense their tracker codes.
"CODE UNDETECTABLE"
I tried again, with the same result. I had no idea what the problem was, so I set my computer to track unidentified humanoid forms though the city, particularly these two, before grabbing my bag and logging off the station.
I walked along the corridor, passing the security without so much as a pass check. I walked into a room, with a man hastily pulling on some trousers. The sound of the zip was unmistakable as he turned round. A surprised look was on his face.
"Hi, I'm Sarah Smith."[/i]

Alex nodded as she started leading the pair toward the pier, stealing a few more wallets, only getting caught once, which she gladly handed back the wallet without trouble, after all she already had all the money she would need.

When the pair arrived at the restaurant Alex requested a seat at a booth far away from anyone, some payment necessarily for that, but she didn't care...it wasn't her money. They were handed their menus then seated, Alex looking over the menu with a grin. "What would you like? We have enough to buy a meal for all our misfit friends." She laughed some, with the constant taking she did she had gathered quite a bit of money reaching just shy of four hundred dollars. "I'm thinking I'm going to get a king crab and lobster."[/color

VIBRATIONS SO GOOD LIKE A SUNKIST!
“aaaaw another beautiful day out” Akemi awoke in a place he normally would, outside. He never cared to sleep inside since it’s always so nice in the city. He sat up and looked around, he kind of forgot where he slept but then soon remembered “oh right….. The pier… how did I get here again?”. Akemi didn’t even remember coming here, he thought that he was asleep somewhere around the door no one can go into to.

He stood up and stretched, his back made a loud popping noise “ow ow ow ow… what the hell man?” he made note not to fall asleep in that area again. He then grabbed his roller blades and tied the laces together, putting them over his shoulder as he started walking. “Alright what can I do today? I need more spray paint aaaaaaaaand guess that’s all I can do….. Sad” he was getting a little bored doing the same thing over and over. But even he knew he would do it anyways. “wait! The door” he looked around making sure no one heard him. “That’s it I’m going to check out the door!!” he jumped a little then started jogging away from the pier.

Riley gave a low groan as he rose from the depths of slumber; it was not a nice feeling for him, waking up. Slowly, he opened his eyes with a yawn, making fists with his hands and raising them to eyes, rubbing the sleep from his eyes before pulling the blankets from his body before standing up and stumbling into Alena’s room wearing only his boxers and rubbing his head, causing his hair to stand up at odd angles.

“Mornin’,” he grumbled in a hoarse voice. He yawned once again, glancing around the room and taking in the sights. There were her candles, the smell of incense drifting through the air and her mat, rolled up in the corner – though Riley knew she had been using it only minutes before he woke up. “What is it with you and this shit?” he said with a slightly disgruntled voice. However, it was said with affection; Alena’s quirks, her morning ritual, it made her who she was. It was comforting to see her in her Thai-chi uniform, knowing she was going about her day as usual. It mornings what Riley had known, what it seemed he had always known. If he didn’t find her in her room, with her incense and her mat, he would be concerned.

The boy watched for a few moments as she rummaged through her wardrobe, searching for something to wear. Quickly growing bored, and itching to get out and find his fix, he stepped closer to her. He pulled out a pair of black khaki pants and an emerald sweater, throwing them on her head. “Wear those, you’ll look great, sweet cheeks.” He grinned before flopping onto his bed. His decision of clothing seemed random and impatient but they were planned and decided. Riley had impeccable fashion taste, though he would never admit it.

After a moment, he gave another groan before pulling himself off the bed and heading to a set of drawers, pulling the third one down open, revealing a few jeans, tee shirts and some underwear. Despite not living with the Barich’s, Riley was there frequently enough that he had made Alena clear a drawer so he could keep some spare clothes there, instead of having to lug a rucksack around with him. He grabbed a pair of boxers, some blue skinnies, a long-sleeved white tee shirt and a plain red tee shirt. He headed to the bathroom, changing quickly and brushing his teeth with the spare toothbrush he also kept with round Alena’s.

Riley headed back to Alena’s room with a smirk on his pale face; he was beginning to feel more awake, though the itch that he woke with every morning was still there. “So, where are we going today, kiddo?” he asked, not particularly paying attention to whether or not Alena was dressed.
You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.

Kokoro grinned at Alex's choice of food and said,"Nice..." She took a look at the menu and said,"I think I'll have the lobster with linguini in white sauce." She could feel her stomach growling. Kokoro hasn't eaten food in a few days already...mostly because of her lack of money, and the fact that she has been receiving many hacking requests.

Alex gave a light ‘mMm’ as Kokoro said her choice. The waiter came over and asked what they would like then both ordered their drink and food.

Their drink brought moments later. Then, after some wait and much complaining about the wait, their food was brought, Alex eating quickly.

“We should do this more. Its nice to eat like this once in a while. Then again thats a lot of stealing, people may wise up.” Alex laughed, people were drones, living their lives one day at a time similar to robots.

“What we definitely should do is go and try and get closer to the door. At least enough for me to see if I can get through it. But its locked, and I have yet to find a door or lock that could stop me.” Alex sighed some, “Think the others would want to come? See whats through that mysterious door.”

Alena only smiled serenly at his grumpy words. She knew he didn't mean them the way they sounded and the way most would take them. She knew him better than most ever could know him, afterall. She knew that deep down, he was a creature of habit despite his seemingly random behavior and gestures. There was a pattern to it all, if one knew what to look for. There was even a pattern to his thoughts, though it often concerned her. She did her utmost not to go delving through her best friend's mind, and in most cases, she succeeded. But there were times when she couldn't avoid knowing what was going through his head. He practically shouted the thoughts, after all... and most often they had to do with either his strongest fears, or his constant itch for his next fix.

She caught the clothes he tossed at her, shaking her head with that same serene smile. For a moment, as she always did, she seriously considered saying no to what he'd picked out for her. But this was their morning ritual, and she knew that he took a sort of comfort and solace in it that few would ever understand. If she deviated, she could disrupt the one some-what peaceful moment he had all day before he would slip back in to his old habits and become a perpetual ball of chaos once more.

He disappeared in to the bathroom, and she took the time to change in her bedroom, slipping in to the black pants and emerald sweater. She pulled a brush through her hair before tieing it up in to a bun atop her head, a few stray peices allowed to fall strategically around her face, giving her an almost willowy sort of appeal. As usual, she opted not to wear any makeup, and slid her feet in to a comfortable pair of black slip-on flats.

When he reappeared from the bathroom, she was dressed and had just finished sliding her shoes on. The way he called her kiddo was endearing, and she smiled some, looking over at him before giving a graceful shrug of her shoulders. "I thought we should get food, first and foremost. You skipped eating again yesterday." She hadn't even seen him until late at night the night before, they'd completely missed each other from early morning to late night, so how did she know he hadn't eaten? Did it matter? She knew she was right, and he would know by now that arguing with her and lieing was pointless, she'd make him eat anyway, no matter how convincing he was.

"After that... I'm sure we can find something to do."
If life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade. And try to find someone who's life has given them vodka, and have a party.
