![]() Rolling Thread IC Thread Dragons have always been some of the most fierce creatures. Feared by almost all, revered by some and worshiped by others, these mighty beasts have forever left their mark upon the world. But what twists and turns are held within their own ranks? What subtle or extreme differences drive these difference races of great reptilian beasts in the ways that they do go? Nature? The will of higher beings? As greatly as dragons differ from one another, so do the theories that surround them. Many of these theories hold some truth to them, many do not. But among the plethora of myths and legends is those regarding a seat of power which allows mortals to influence these great beasts and bend them to their will though at a high price. One could simply chock this up to another piece of lore and disregard it towards simple folk talk of daydreamers....were it not for the strange alterations in the behavior of these great beasts and whispers of the Dragon's Throne rising up once more. I will be joining this, certainly. But... I will say that you have an odd system for rolling stats. It strikes me that the stats could easily end up as being terribly low. Unless you've done that system before and it worked out fine, might I suggest doing 6 rolls of 4d6 and dropping the lowest score from each roll? That's the method I'm used to, at any rate. |

here is the situation in hand. Normally I do 4d6 and drop the lowest, but the rolling system on EL doesn't allow you to see what each dice came up with so we can't really drop any. But sense I'm usually doing level 3 starts for games I should probably bump it up to a 4d6 start sense it's lvl 8. >> Though for the purpose of creation I've always done it traditionally with the PHB and gone with 4 dropping the lowest but due to a circumstances we'll tweak it to be all 4. Well pointed I'll go ahead and alter it that one. Edited by Jester, October 6, 2010, 9:01 pm.

There is a way to see all of the numbers for the roll. It's a bit more complicated, but it's like this... Set 1: <roll>1d6</roll> <roll>1d6</roll> <roll>1d6</roll> <roll>1d6</roll> Set 2: <roll>1d6</roll> <roll>1d6</roll> <roll>1d6</roll> <roll>1d6</roll> etc... You do each d6 individually, drop the lowest, and add it up yourself. Obviously you use [] instead of <> when you roll, though. Edited by That Butler, October 6, 2010, 9:06 pm.

well, if you would rather rull up 4 and drop the lowest for each set feel free, but as it stands I'm simply allowing you to keep all 4 and leave it at that. Even if it does vary from the PHB Standard concept, it's good to God.

Keeping all 4 could result in a starting stat of 24, though... Which is ridiculous no matter how you slice it. It is my recommendation that you roll 4 and drop the lowest. So the highest stat you can get out of the rolling is 18, which is the way it's supposed to be at the start. Also, I seem to recall that you get a +1 to one stat at level 4, then another +1 to a stat at level 8. You have it stated as two +1s to play with, both at level 8. I have the PHB in front of me, if you'd like me to look that up and check... Just trying to help you be accurate with the rules, if that's what you're going for. |

True, or I can just state that anything over 18 is pushed back to 18 as I had with the 9's. >> And you are correct in the +1's. And I think I put that in there. >> (also has a PHB in front of him...as well as beside him. ) Edited by Jester, October 6, 2010, 9:30 pm.

That works for me, though our stats are still likely to be quite high. Just saying, because I know how frustrating it can be as a DM when the PCs are just too good. Anyway, I think I'm going to be a cleric, likely flavored as a necromancer. Because they're fun. I'm looking through domains right now, so if I find one I like more than Death, we'll see what I pick. |

I'm willing to help but keep in mind that a evil aligned character will be difficult to control in a campaign not geared towards Evil. Especially Chaotic Evil ones. |

I'm aiming my cleric toward being lawful neutral, right now. Since Wee Jas looks like she's going to be the deity of choice for the Death domain thing. Though... I would be tempted to go with Nerull... *ponders* If I decide to beg you to let me turn into a vampire in the future... ![]() And I have a question about cleric spells. At each spell level, how many different spells can I have? For instance, at level 0, I have 6 spell uses per day. Does that mean that I can have 1 use of 6 different level 0 spells if I choose? Or 2 uses each for 3 different level 6 spells? See what I'm asking? I'm confused on that. |

well, normally in my games I alter magic a little, but for the purpose of this one I will keep it by the books. Here is what you have at a a 8th level cleric without ability mods factored in. 6 Orisons (or 0 level spells.) 4 lvl 1 spells 3 lvl 2 spells 3 lvl 3 spells & 2 lvl 4 spells per day.the +1 is indicating your domain spells and at lvl 8 you have 1 lvl 1, 2, 3, and 4 domain spells per day. (-plays cleric a good bit-) [keep in mind that though you do not have to worry about learning new spells you still have to prepare the spells you're going to be able to cast at the beginning of the day via prayer.] Edited by Jester, October 6, 2010, 11:09 pm.

And I can pick any from the list (by level, of course)? And I think you misunderstood my question a bit... Let's try to clear this out via an example. Tell me if I am wrong. Level 0 Spells/day = 6, meaning that I can have 6 different spells of level 0 prepared to be used 1 time each, or I can have 2 level 0 spells prepared to be used 3 times each, or some other combination thereof. And the same goes for the other levels. Am I right about this, or am I wrong? |
